Hmm, not sure what to say about this place. Jack is either really laid back, or could care less about customers and customer service. Was interested in one of their classic cars. Have been emailing/​calling back and forth for details, which to his credit, he provided. However, was promised a picture of the undercarriage two weeks ago, but it still hasn’t been sent. Nevertheless, we finally agreed on a date for me to drive up from the south bay to see the car. Set aside the day for this. This morning, he claimed it was raining and the car couldn’t leave the showroom. Fine with that policy, but it turns out, nary a drop of rain in San Rafael today. Won’t be buying from him anytime soon!

i took my 2002 GMC Sierra to this shop specifically because they were highly rated in Pacific Suns «Best of Marin». Boy was i disappointed. I too, am a business owner in this county, and my experience with Jack Hunt was absolutely atrocious, HORRIBLE customer service, and NO follow through with promises. i wasted $ 800 for service the next shop stated the truck did not need, and the shop left the drivers side window DOWN when doing an after hour lock out, so i could pick up my vehicle after work, and my fastrack transponder was stolen from the windshield. I immediately reported this to the shop and the owner said they would reimburse me for the transponder. The bookkeeper than said, «we will only reimburse you with a copy of your fastrack account charges». after much hassle, i sent the bookkeeper a detailed copy of the charges on my fastrack account for having to report the transponder stolen — which caused me to report several transponders as stolen, as i had 6 transponders registered to my account over the years and didn’t know which one was in the pick up truck that was left with window down at jack hunts. two months later, i still have NOT received any reimbursement from jack hunt automotive. If you want to be ripped off, and have horrible customer service, and be lied to, this is a great place to go. i own 3 vehicles, am a single female, and felt thoroughly taken advantage of. Give me a break… it isnt that hard to actually make sure the power windows are UP when you do a lock out of a vehicle, and its ridiculous to send a customer a letter stating, «our tech double checked your vehicles trunk was locked with the remote on the keychain». oh yea? you cared so little about my vehicle, i guess your tech didn’t notice the vehicle had NO TRUNK, it is a pick up truck, idiot, and yea, it was locked, WITH THE FREAKIN WINDOW DOWN! i will NEVER utilize this business again for ANY of my vehicles. janna in sausalito

My name is Rich and I have purchased several cars from Jack over the years and have been very happy with all of them. Most recent I purchase a 1987 Corvette with low miles which I am very please with the car and the way they handled the transaction.
They have a Professional Parts and Service Department with Gail, Brad, Gary and the Crew. I highly recommend doing business with Parts and Service Department and purchasing a car from Jack as well. It was a enjoyable buying experience.

I took my car in for a smog check and it was running perfectly fine, it came out and it was clicking when I hit the break from shifting from park to drive! they quickly blamed it on my car being an older car which by the way only has 68 000 miles on it for being a 1991 Honda Accord they told me the problem was coincidental and blamed it on age! they quickly said they are not responsible they are not going to be responsible and pointed me to the signs that said they are not responsible after they work on your car and take your money! poor attitudes, poor customer service over all the staff is not compassionate. they are there to take your credit card only! I would stay away from them at all costs!

I’ve been going to Jack Hunt for about 6 years now. They are down the street from my house which helps but it’s far from the only reason I go here.
As a women going into a car repair shop I always have my guard up but Gail has always made me feel at ease. She reviews the estimate with you and clearly explains what is necessary, what is a possibility and what is an option. More than once the estimate of what needs to be done ends up being less when I pick it up. When does that happen?
They don’t charge for unnecessary work but instead will take care of things without charge like the complimentary cleaning both exterior and interior before you pick up your car. It’s always such a nice little extra.
They are for sure a great, honest, reliable, neighborhood spot. Even my four year old son loves going in to see Gary and Gail.

I’d recently purchased an older car in fine fine cosmetic shape as a second vehicle. Not really being familiar with it, or its mechanical history, I brought it into these guys for a safety check…
Well, first off the safety check took three days… Even though I’d scheduled an appointment in advance. When I finally got fed up and went in to pick up my car I had to wait an hour for them to release it.
I smelled a rat when the estimate claimed I needed new shocks, seeing as the only thing I had done to the car was install 4 new tires, and the tire technician had told me all my shocks were in good shape and relatively new. The estimate also claimed I needed a wheel alignment and an oil change… these two jobs had been performed in the past two weeks prior to the estimate
It was almost as though they didn’t want me to drive it off the property. They claimed that my cooling system, hoses, water pump and radiator were so bad I was risking it by even driving home.
I proceeded to drive the car around for roughly 4 months before replacing a single hose at a different garage.
I feel the estimate I was given by Jack L hunt was purely bogus. And the $ 280 I spent there was a waste of money. I’ve since taken it to another shop and almost everything they have found and fixed isn’t even on the Jack L Hunt estimate. Total cost to maintain my car to date :$ 600 over 8 months. The JLH estimate was over $ 4000!
It’s almost as though they looked at my 25 year old car and said «it’ll probably need the following. Every old car does“… And just proceeded to compile a list. of work without even taking a close look at my car

Solid service all around. Pleasant, helpful, timely, courteous and straightforward. I bought my dream vintage car here and got a great deal. Period. I am looking forward to seeing what their service is like, as the car does need some work — nothing unexpected, it’s a 41 year old car.

I just bought a car from this business and I found Jack to be very honest, straightforward and fair. There was no sales pitch or hype.
He’s an Marinite not some salesman from the East Bay.
If you treat him with courtesy he will reciprocate. Great deal. Great service. And a very interesting inventory.

Honest and reliable. A great place to bring your car, particularly if you live in San Rafael or have an older vehicle or collectable. They offer a great warrantee. A true San Rafael institution.
I’ve had Jack locate and sell me three brand new vehicles and at least a half dozen used cars over the years. He has an extraordinary knowledge of anything automotive and stands behind everything that he sells.

Great car shop! Gayle and company are a delight to do business with. Mechanics are some of the best in the Northern California.

These guys are great. I’ve been using them for about 3 years now. They have remarkable customer service. You never feel any pressure that you’re being oversold a service that you don’t need. And they have always dealt with me in an honest straight-​forward manner. I have found their prices to be very affordable. I also want to mention how nice it is to deal with Gayle and Gary. Also the owner (Jack) is very nice and easy to talk with. These guys are great.
