Dave was great! He is old school and has the knowledge that comes with it. He knows how to do things right. He is thorough and asks all the right questions. His installation was top notch with impressive clean up. The only way I knew he had been there was my beautiful new front door. Thanks Dave!

Customer service at its best! Dave installed a door for me 5 years ago and did an outstanding job. The house shifted a bit and the door was not closing as smooth. Dave responded quickly and our door is back to its smooth closing.

Called Dave Does Doors on a Sunday Morning and Dave called back within 10 minutes! Explained what we are looking for and the materials we would like to use. Some of the features we were looking for Dave does not do (e.g. interlocking weather stripping) but he was ready with names of people companies that do that kind of work. He also took the time to explain how door materials used in the past are not made with the same quality today and have been replaced by far superior products and went into detail explaining why should consider the latter. While our project needs to stay with work that Dave doesn’t do, everything written about him in other Unilocal Reviews is the real deal and had to share the outstanding experience we had.

Dave did an excellent job on replacing my double front doors. He only take jobs that he knows he can do well. His attention to detail goes beyond what I expect from a contractor. Very highly recommended!

I found Dave through Unilocal four years ago and since then he has installed four doors in my home, two interior french doors and two exterior doors. He rocks! If you want a no-​nonsense professional to install your doors then he’s your man. He has oodles of experience and all the tricks of the trade to prove it. My double french interior doors were very tricky as my house is very old and somewhat lopsided but Dave did it! He has the patience of a saint! Working with Dave is a very smooth process from start to finish and he sticks with it until it’s right!

Dave Does «GREAT» Doors!!! I saw him installing a door for a house in my area. I loved his company name and decided to call him up. He not only was knowledgable, but personable and honest about what would work for our house. We picked out our doors and Dave came to install them with the utmost care and precision. Just wanted to provide an update on my door by Dave. Last week in the rains pretty much all of my exterior doors swelled and didn’t close correctly — EXCEPT for the door hung by Dave. Don’t know what he does or how he does it, but he really knows his stuff! I was a fan before, now I’m a believer.

Dave installed our front door a few weeks ago and did a FANTASTIC job!

He promptly called be back and came over and spent a lot of time going over the many options available & returned to our home to double check a few measurements and details before the installation I love our new front door. We had Dave come out and install 5 doors for our 1940s-​era mid century modern home. From start to finish, Dave handled the job like a pro. Although there was nothing standard about the job, Dave was able to tackle all installation challenges without a fuss. Each day, he took the extra steps necessary to protect my home from dust and floor damage. At the end of it, we have a home with all new doors that work beautifully.

My exterior back door is not a standard size, so I needed one custom made. Before he even started on the job, I got a really good feeling about him due to his enthusiasm. He is knowledgeable, professional, enthusiastic and takes pride in his work. He spent the entire day on the door, and his work proved me right. He did a great job, and I couldn’t be happier with my new door.

Before I begin singing high praise to Dave I think it’s important to provide a little background on my door project. We bought our seventy year old home a few years back and decided that replacing all the mismatched interior doors was first on our list of to-do’s. We were referred to Dave by a family friend. Dave came out to our house and looked over our existing doors, jams and stops. Dave tested the paint and sure enough the paint was lead based. To top it off the paint was chipping. With a small child in the house we decided that we had to act fast. Dave and I talked about my options and I decided that instead of hiring a company that specializes in removing doors covered in lead based paint, which is costly and time consuming, I would do the work myself. Dave told me which tools to buy and how to remove the doors, moldings, jams and stops. He also showed me how to prepare the house for the job so that I would keep lead paint dust to a minimum and how to clean up afterward. Meanwhile, Dave met my wife and I at AMC Doors in South San Francisco to go over interior door, molding, hinge and knob options. We placed the order for the new doors, moldings, hinges and knobs and I went to work removing the seven existing interior doors. Over a weekend I finished the removal. The following week Dave got started installing the new doors, moldings, jams, stops, hinges and knobs. From start to finish Dave took about a week to complete the project. You might think this is too long to install seven doors but Dave is a perfectionist. Every door Dave installed had to meet his high standards for appearance and performance. The job was not finished until everything was 100% perfect. I cannot say enough about Dave’s work ethic. Not only did he spend a lot of time educating us on our options but he was also very responsive by both phone and email. By showing me how to remove the old doors myself Dave saved me a lot of money. I’m not sure that other door installation companies would be willing to spend the time to educate their customers like Dave did for me. We are extremely satisfied with the work that Dave did for us. Not only do the doors look great but they are also balanced and open and close perfectly. If you’re looking for someone to come in and quickly hang a couple of doors in your house then you should look elsewhere. If you’re looking for a professional that does professional work then Dave Does Doors is the right choice. I will be using Dave to replace all of our exterior doors and will continue to recommend Dave to anyone considering a door replacement project.

I used Dave about 6 years ago and now I have a forum to tell everyone how wonderful he is. I had an Anderson patio slider installed as new construction by a total moron who installed it backwards and Dave came and fixed it. Affordably. What a great guy. Still after 6 years, there it is, working fine. Thanks Dave!!!

Based on recommendations (and there are not a lot of contractors who do just doors, it seems), I called Dave to talk to him about replacing a door to the outside from our master bedroom. After picking a style, we set up an appointment for him to do the work. Very thorough, and does not rush at all (he was here a good 8 hours). Top, top notch work and we’re very happy with our new door.
He doesn’t do any painting of doors but he has a guy he recommends (who will come out and actually use a spray gun for your door). The painter is good for doors but not much else…

I smile every time I walk past my beautiful new front door. It’s amazing how I seem to notice less traffic noise and how solid everything feels.
Dave even installed a steel reinforcement plate hidden on the back of the door jam to resist kick-​ins at no extra charge! I am a single mom and that gives me an extra piece of mind. He even came over on a Sunday, my only day off, to spend his day off showing me doors and options.
Another thing that I really loved was there was absolutely no pressure to hurry up and buy something. He said my selection would be something we would both have to live with and until death do us part (me and the door) and I should not make any hasty decisions.

He was great, the door is great, and I couldn’t be happier with both his work and our door. Dave is a craftsman, an artist who happens to work in entryways.
He had a wide range of catalogs and helped us decide on the door we wanted. When we went back to his van, there was a custom door he’d been working on. My wife fell in love with it and decided that was the door that Dave had to do for us. He was as excited as she was.
The big day came. Dave was on time, worked until the door was installed, and left us with no fuss, no muss and a great looking entrance to our house.

I have nothing but praise for Dave Rienecker, owner of Dave Does Doors. My new Therma Tru Smooth Star doors are beautiful and working with Dave was a refreshing experience.
He returned all of my calls promptly and was clearly knowledgeable about his area of expertise. He is a licensed general contractor and a journeyman carpenter of twenty years, and now focuses exclusively on custom door installations on the SF Peninsula. Unlike some contractors I’ve worked with, Dave showed up on time and completed the job without unexpected delays. At the end of the day he tidied up neatly before heading home. Dave doesn’t sub out his work, he does all of his installations himself. There were no surprises, he did what he said he would do, and did a great job.
