To start with, we were pleased with the carpet selection, initial salesperson service, and all installation services. However, when things go amiss, then you can see the true colors of customer service. The carpet ordered was short of material and delayed the install by another week which was a huge inconvenience for my tenant moving in. I was verbally given a 20% discount due to this issue but the offer was rescinded, stating BA Floors was absorbing the costs of additional material and installation, thus unable to offer this discount. Not sure how any of this was my fault. Prior to this issue, I was considering them for my own home and referring them to others, don’t think this will happen now, too bad.

Great support from start to finish. We were looking to add hardwood floors to our bedroom (carpet over plywood). Steve helped us pick out flooring in their showroom, and gave us large size samples to take with us so we could see what the wood would look like in our home. Installation was smooth, and the floors look great. In addition they restored the existing hardwood floors that we did have. We will be using them for any flooring needs we have in the future.

Worked with Steve who was really helpful with what type of wood would work best for our house given we are on a concrete slab foundation as well as have a 2 year old who drops his toys on the floor ALL THE TIME. He even allowed us to buy a box of flooring to get a better idea of what it would look like and said if we didn’t like it, he would take it back and refund us. The stores hardwood selection was very extensive. We love our new floors.

Bay area floors has been a great source for all types of flooring materials for years. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Great customer service.

I needed new carpeting for my condo so based on the reviews, I went to Bay Area Floors and Design. Lori was very helpful in narrowing down my choices and Lia was able to come over right away to do the measurements. On the afternoon before installation, I received a call telling me the padding hadn’t arrived, so I was given two options — 1) delay installation for a few days, or 2) They would install an upgrade padding for no extra charge, which I opted for.
Bottomline: The carpet was installed within a week from walking into the showroom to completion! Although Lori seems to always be busy and might be difficult to get hold of, she has a great support staff to keep things moving.

we went to bay area floors n design last week to find engineering hardwood for our first house. we knew nothing about floor before i went there, and Steve gave us lots of useful information and tips. He let us pick the style first, then work on some cheaper solutions.
Our renovation haven’t started yet, so I cannot say anything about there floor installation work, that’s why it’s not a 5-​star. But I think will choose this place if I decided to redo my floor.

We have a rental and had an emergency situation arise when the last tenants left. The tenants had completely destroyed carpeting and we had new tenants moving in within a couple of weeks. We called Bay Area floors to come out ASAP to provide a quote to remove existing carpeting and install laminate flooring. They were able to come out within a few hours and provide a quote the same day. We were very impressed with their showroom. An amazing selection of flooring, especially compared to other flooring showrooms we visited. The day of the flooring installation, they arrived when they said they would and completed the project in one day. Steve and his crew were very easy to work with and extremely accommodating.
We would definitely use them again.

We visited Bay Area Floors today, to check out engineered hardwood planks for the house we are planning to sell. Keith helped us to find an affordable and beautiful option for our needs. He was very nice and knowledgeable; he was not pushy like many other salespersons. He led us borrow some big samples to check out the colors as well.

If only there were negative ratings. I have worked with a lot of companies in the last 45 years and am absolutely disapointed with the level of service and follow up of this company. Starting from poor installation to no follow up on problems. The rug was installed in June 2014 and they have still not done has they have promised.

I worked with BAFD to have an engineered hardwood floor floated over a new concrete slab (with radiant heat inside it), and up a staircase. Tim was friendly, personable, and very helpful in the sales and project management process.
We hit a snag: the concrete was emitting too high a level of moisture to fit within the guidelines (warranty constraints) of the flooring manufacturer. Lori was in contact with me and my contractor, and helped guide us all through… waiting. We had to wait, and what works in Lori and BAFDs favor was how willing they were to work with us so we didn’t have to wait any longer than necessary. This meant repeated testing, and I greatly appreciate that BAFD didn’t insist on months of waiting between tests.
Sam, for installation, was great. He did the work quickly and beautifully. He even came back out to replace a stair-​piece that my contractor damaged (my contractor paid). And he’s a nice fellow.
All in all, the only reason they don’t get 4 stars is the 5 just isn’t possible given the waiting we had to do. I can’t fault them for the delay… I guess the only way they could have had 5 stars would be if, somehow, they could have helped us determine how to not have a delay in advance. It may be magical thinking, though. Not a knock against them. Just something to know when floating hardwood over a new concrete slab!

This review is for the installer Vinh (Vincent). He did an incredible job on the installation of carpet in 4 bedrooms and a stair runner. He made sure to set my expectations appropriately regarding the carpet seam, but the finished job was so incredible only an installer of 20+ years would know exactly what to look for. Couldn’t have been more happy with the end result!

This was my second experience with this place. I had a rental unit carpeted a couple of years ago and it was painless, reasonably priced and great workmanship. Went in again today to have a small area of the home recarpeted. Quick, courteous and friendly service. Got what I needed in a few minutes, install scheduled within a week and price is fair. I definitely recommend this place!

I chose Bay Area Floors for the re-​carpeting of our house which is in the process of being sold. I dealt with Stephen who got us a reasonably priced and yet quality carpeting option that was our best choice from all the local carpeting businesses in the local San Mateo area. Stephen was extremely helpful in managing all the nuances of carpet selection for our needs and had done many carpet installations for home sellers and realtors. Lori also contacted us and was very helpful. The most helpful, however, was the lead installer, Vincent, who, along with his wife, was efficient and quite knowledgeable. All in all, a positive experience in the midst of the turmoil of the house selling. I highly recommend Bay Area Flooring for those who are putting their house on the market, or just needing a few rooms recarpeted.

We just had our living room, dining room, hallways, and 3 bedrooms completely redone … top quality padding and new carpeting! What a transformation! We had some contracting issues that delayed our project «several» times and Bay Area Floors was super great about rescheduling our installation date (4 times!)…no ??‘s — no hassles!
The installation team was FANTASTIC! We were told they would come on Thursday and possibly finish in 2 or 3 days. (Saturday) They actually would’ve finished the job in ONE day… but we need a little time to get our things organized in one of the rooms, so they returned on Friday morning and were finished by 2 pm. Very tidy, very efficient, moved the furniture… everything done very well!

This is the second time that we’ve used Lori, Steve and their team at Bay Area Floors — they first redid all the floors on a condo we owned a few years back in a beautiful African hardwood I had seen nowhere else, plus bamboo and slate in other rooms). Based on that great experience, we asked them to help us in refreshing the floors in our current house this month.
Lori was great at steering us through the many choices, and getting my partner and I to agree on something we could both be happy with (which is no easy feat sometimes). We decided on refinishing our hardwood floors (which are original and a good quality hardwood from the 50s) on a darker stain that would make them look more modern. She helped us find a great looking and inexpensive carpet for our guest room — and this is one of the things I love about Lori, which is she’s never pushed the most expensive product, but rather what fits for us. For the kitchen we went with a great porcelain tile resembling gray bamboo which I had seen nowhere else. On top of all that, they helped us put in cedar flooring in our closets, which smells great and keeps any possible bugs at bay, plus redo all our baseboards around the house for a more modern look
Since we trust Lori (and we’ve known her for years), we had no qualms in letting her team do our floors while we were on a two week trip. They kept us updated during the trip, showing us pictures of how the stain we had originally chosen would turn out with the natural hue of our wood, which was a bit redder than we were aiming for. Lori and Steve were able then to tweak the stain and come up with a final product that was a close match to what we originally went for.
As for the installation and finishing, all was flawless, including moving furniture back and forth (a service we paid for gladly), so we came back after two weeks to a done house, without having to deal with all the dust from the sanding, etc. while we were here. Best. Decision. Ever. We are super happy with the result, and we will be using Bay Area Floors every time we need another refresh.

We had a fantastic experience with BAF… Tim was very professional and knowledgeable and guided us to the carpet we liked. The installation was set up promptly and when the carpet came in, the installer was timely, friendly, and the work was neat and clean. We would definitely use BAF for future services.

Perfection! The BAF team installed the most beautiful Boen Hardware Floor and Fabrica carpet. I received 3 quotes and BAF was the lowest.
The team was super knowledge and responsive. We just bought in a 1920’s co-​op building in San Francisco with many rules and regulations regarding new floor installs and sound insulation. Stephen and Lori were super helpful in researching different suppliers, getting samples and seeking solutions to meet the high standards of the board. The BAF team knows how to work with luxury buildings in the City and the rules and regulations limitations. Tear out was seamless.
The installers did a perfect job with the detailed herringbone pattern.
Would highly recommend Bay Area Floor to any friends and family. Great service, product and value.

We got flooring done in the playroom. We have an Eichler home and Stephen the sales guy told us that the ‘floating’ installation method was the only way to go because of radiant heating underneath. We got bamboo floor installed ‘floating’ meaning it is not glued down to the floor.
One month into it the floor started sqeaking. The installation comes with warranty so we called Lori the owner to get it fixed. They sent an installation guy out to take a look and he ordered threshold to fix it. The threshold never came and Lori never got back to us even after numerous calls and voicemail messages.
We will NEVER go with Bay Area Floors again!

I was very lucky and found a carpet they had in stock (small warehouse), and it matches our new paint and home perfectly. So, I ordered on Monday, and it was installed Friday. Fit my time frame perfectly, as we were looking to get our house ready immediately for a quick move (unexpected).
Tim helped us out, he was professional, knowledgeable, and kind. He came out to measure within a couple of hours, and so I was confident they would get the job done.
The installers were very nice Asian guys, they were a little slow, however given that they had to tear up 40+ year old carpets and the worn out padding, I am very glad they were super thorough. They knew I had a toddler, and took the time to do everything right.
The carpet looks very nice, and I can’t wait to move in this week! Thank you Bay Area Floors for your speedy service, I am forever grateful and a very lucky customer!

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!
My husband and I needed to replace carpeting on the stairs in our new home and went to Bay Area Floors & Design because it was close by and had decent reviews. I totally regret making this decision. this was our first mistake.
We got a quote for prefinished hardwood installation also, but decided against it. the instant we told them that we were going with someone else for the hardwood floors, the nightmare started.. . once they realized that there were not going to make much from the carpet installation alone, they started to blow us off!!!
The installers showed up 45minutes late and brought the wrong padding for the carpet. I called up Lia (sales person), and she told me that they would fix this. I unfortunately had to go to work and left the installers alone. 3^rd mistake.
I came back home after work and realized that there where large gaps between the stairs and carpet. I COULD ALMOST PUT MY ENTIRE HAND IN THE GAPS. Every step was like this. also there the INSTALLERS LEFT THE OLD STAPLES AND SHARP PINS IN PLACE. It took pictures and emailed them to Lori (owner). After she looked at them, she said that this was NORMAL. the carpeting was installed in a «waterfall» style and it was suppose to be this way.
when I told her that old carpet wasn’t like this and the carpet hugged each stair like a second skin, she said that the prior style must have been «Hollywood». She said because I didn’t tell them before hand which style I wanted it was up to the installers. I told her that wasn’t informed of the options, but I told them to make it look like the existing carpet. Lori said that she will check with the installers and get back to me.
5 business days later, still no word from the owner, so I called Lori. She stated that she had been gone all week because of family emergency. She sounded annoyed that I called to checkup and not a single «I’m sorry». She still maintained that there were nothing wrong with the installation, but as a courtesy she will have the installers come and take a look.
The operational manager, Matt called to schedule the installers to come out. He said that if I want the carpet reinstalled the «Hollywood style», I would have to pay an additional $ 100. we had already paid them $ 800; I wasn’t about to give them any more money. I asked them to just come out remove the sharp pins/​staples and tighten the gaps.
In the meanwhile I discovered that the carpeting on the landing was loose also and in fact was coming up. I could easy lift the edge of the carpet and lift it up.
I just wanted the carpet safe for people to walk on. I don’t wear shoes in the house and just worried that my family or I would step on a staples or pins. The installers came back and removed the pins/​staples and tried to fix the gaps the best they could. But the carpet still looks BAD. I would never use them again. before the installers left, they had me sign a release of further obligation form. this was a clear sign that Lori and Bay Area Floors didn’t want to hear from me again.
I have worked with 3 different contractors for other jobs in my new home and I have never had this kind of experience. Yes, hiccups occur but the other contractors were willing to work with me and didn’t make me feel like they were doing you a favor. Pictures are worth a thousand words, so I will try to post pictures of the carpet installation.
