I took my daughters Mini Cooper here and I would recommend this place to anyone who wants an honest, friendly, fast place to get your car worked on! Elmer was so nice and friendly and so through! We only wanted 1 tire because she had a blow out from an accident and didn’t try to sell us 4 tires! 1^st time ever that I’ve been to a tire place that didn’t try to sell me something I didn’t need! My daughter has a new place to get her oil changed and so reasonable in pricing! Thank you for making a difficult situation easy!

I was introduced to Nixon’s Tires by a friend who took her car here when her check engine light came up. The staff was friendly and courteous. My Ford Mustang made a slight grinding noise when accelerating right and Thomas, their mechanic, took a look at the bottom of my car. After finding nothing wrong they said they would not charge me for the time they spent on my car! Most other places would probably charge for a diagnostic right off the bat but Nixon’s Tires did not. I will be coming back here if I have any problems with my car!

The folks at Nixon tire are always helpful and courteous. We wouldn’t take our car anywhere else. it started with the free tire repair. we were just in town for a visit when our car kept losing air from tire. they repaired it. Then they fixed the other one. Even knowing we were unlikely to return. But return we did. We are now living in the area and continue to use Nixon for all our car repairs. Love you guys!

Excellent and honest auto shop. The check engine light of my Jaguar came on and I took it to a shop that specialized in that make if car. They couldn’t figure it out (twice). Elmer figured out the issue and fixed it. Another time my honda hybrid had a problem with the batteries. He could have fixed it and charged me but he called honda, found out the problem was under warrantee and recommended we take it there, which we did. It was fixed for free. I trust them completely.

I never write reviews but after what had happened, I definitely had to write one. I was totally cheated. I went in a few months ago back in May for a simple smog check. I waited for a few minutes and the mechanic came back saying I didn’t pass. He told me that it was due to some gas leak and other mechanical issues which needed to be fixed right away. This was strange because I never smelled some gas leak when in/​near the car. These fixes would total over $ 200 which was money I didn’t have. So I paid the $ 39 smog check (without certification of passing results) and declined the extra offers. Three weeks later, I went to another smog check station (a one referred by my uncle) to get my smog checked there. And strangely enough, the car passed without any problems. The car didn’t even need the urgent fixes as suggested by Nixon Tires.
My point writing this review is that even though they were very nice and seemed to have great customer service, a place like this can easily cheat you if you don’t know much about autos (I sure didn’t). So, go to this place with caution because your «$ 20 oil change» can unnecessarily become $ 200.

I’ve been taking my cars to Elmer at his’ Nixon Tire & Auto’ for a few years now. I have ALWAYS found Elmer and his team to be honest and looking out for my best interests. His mechanic, Thomas, is excellent and has been able to fix anything that one of my cars threw his way.
I was recently in to have the oil changed on both my Lexus SC430 and Kia Borrego. As always the work was done quickly and at a very reasonable price.
Elmer Nixon… a man you can take your vehicles to and know he will do the right thing.

We were traveling and our low tire light came on. They aired up all four tires and said we were good to go. It was just a cool morning. We were in and out in 5 minutes. Thank you again for the great service.

Locally owned, skilled and friendly shop. The owner, Elmer, is usually at the counter. customer service is unbeatable when you are dealing with the owner. Top notch car service too. I started going there for the oil change special and now I take my vehicles there for everything. Examples of their great customer service-​took my Ford Escape in there for the oil change. when writing it up both of us missed that it needed the special synthetic oil-​expensive. Elmer charged me for the basic oil change anyway. On another vehicle, I had a pesky check engine light preventing me from getting the car smogged. It was a difficult diagnosis that took a couple of days. In the end, Elmer threw in the Smog test free for my patience.
I worked in surgery during my career. I know the procedure for a heart valve replacement but I don’t know how to work on these newfangled, electronic engines. Just to change the plugs on my Mazda, they had to remove the intake manifold. I’m happy to let an expert do it for me.
The chain garages and the dealerships can’t touch a local business owner for commitment to the customer. On top of that, Elmer is a great mechanic. don’t look any further. Nixons Garage is the place for you.

After going to several auto repair facilities in San Luis Obispo, I have found much honesty and business ethics in Nixon. Don, the manager, is the kind of person you can trust in this untruthful business of automobiles. I dislike sales tactics, (you need this and that or this will eventually crap on you), and don’t like to be gouged. There is enough getting screwed as a renter here in SLO and we don’t need it from all the other businesses.
Enough rambling.
Nixon Tire and Auto should be YOUR place to go to get great work, customer satisfaction, and dependability when you need ANYTHING for your vehicle.

I have a business and I bring all 6 of my trucks to nixen. I love the 30 oil change and tire rotation special can’t beat it any where else! I needed a shop that I could bring my vehicles to that was honest and did quality work. I have been bringing my business to Elmer the owner who is very professional and gets my guys in and out of there in a timely fashion. I have been bringing my vehicle to nixen for over 2 years and they have always taken care of me with reasonable prices! I have recommend to friends in the past and will continue to do so! Five starts in my book

(Let me preface this review by saying we have taken our vehicle to this shop for several previous oil changes with no apparent issues.)
Vehicle needed a transmission service/​flush so we brought to Nixon Auto to perform the routine service on a Friday. Picked up the vehicle same day and all was good, or so we thought. After heading out to run errands on Saturday, we returned to find a one square foot oil leak where we parked. WTF. I crawl under the car and sure enough, the transmission pan was leaking. We proceeded to call Nixon to inform of the problem before they were closed. They were accommodating and we brought down for re-​inspection before they closed. Ok, so we were out of time and had to bring back on Monday.
We gave them the opportunity to make this right and repair AGAIN. Picked up the vehicle Monday afternoon and got told it took them four tries to get it leak-​free. (At this point we are VERY skeptical and untrusting) Got it home and checked for leaks again the next day. Still leaked!!!
Finally got a hold of the owner Elmer and he sweet-​talked us and said he would personally repair the leak and refund our money. We brought it back AGAIN and spoke with Don, who gave us some b.s. story and played dumb, unable to refund our money blah, blah, blah!!!
Bottom line, the owner lied straight to my face and my vehicle is in worse shape than before. Buyer beware, this shop is completely incompetent and extremely dishonest… never getting my business and I’ll be sure to let all my friends/​family know about these schmucks.

Today, much to my chagrin, my tire «found» a screw in the road that led to my low tire pressure light coming on. Stopped in to the tire shop and was back out on the road with the tire fixed in less than a half hour!
I will be bringing all of my business back because they were honest and fast… Thank you for the great experience!

I had a tire sensor light an was worried that i might have a bad tire. Nixon tire was kind enough to check out the tire for free and they were very courteous too! My tires were fine and i had peace of mind thank you Nixon Tire!

They paid me a compliment but the car BROKE DOWN 15 minutes later. If I was looking for a self esteem boost I could’ve called my mom or a shrink. Not an AUTO REPAIR SHOP.

I asked the Manager What New Kid did you put on my Car? The Manager says It’s not a kid, it’s my long time, employee. I give this place 5 negative marks!
1^st — the mechanic did not report the striped drain plug, I be leave he striped it and hoped no one know! When he replaced the plug.
2^nd — did not seat the drain plug (head of drain plug, not in contact with oil pan), I could see 3 threads, and the oil was dripping (really) !!!
3^rd — fresh oil leaking on a clean engine? did not report it! You miss a Cam gasket and vales cover gasket replacement ! Money out the door! My new go to Mechanic says thank you!
4^th — Dripped oil on the engine & val cover !
5^th — The Free tire rotation that did not happen! Manager tells me the Mechanic says one of the tires is low on tread, and it would be unsafe to have the better tires on the front of the car ??? what the %$&*?? the tire in quest gen is in the back, and the newer tires are on the front ??? Just say the Mechanic is too lazy for your free tire rotation!!!

After getting my car back the Manager tells me its ready and good to go! The Mechanic Only notes oil change needed in 2,500 miles!!! I don’t expect a full Inspection of my car for a $ 30. Oil Change job. BUT @^%$#& !!!
I always lift the hood after and check the dip stick, and the motor 4 dripped oil after a Walmart or jiffy lube! Job! The Mechanic’s notes are for to help you manage your car’s health and promote needed work for the shop!!! I hope this Helps!!!

We made an appointment for a mid week morning time slot to bring in our vehicle for the $ 24.95 oil change and tire rotation advertised.
We waited exactly one hour before they got to our vehicle with another 45 minuets while the service was rendered. When you make an appointment, one would expect to have the service provided within a reasonable time congruent to the appointment. Obviously an hour from the time scheduled is unreasonable.
I do not recommend Nixon Tire & Auto. There was no verbalization of an apology for the extensive wait or an explanation as to why it took them one hour past our scheduled time slot before we were serviced.

Top notch service; know what their doing (a far cry from places such as jiffy lube!) all the employees are friendly, smiling & with their prices — I won’t be going to any other shop to service our ’69 Nova :)

I stopped by Nixon on a Saturday with no appointment just for an oil change & tire rotation. The sign outside said $ 24.95 for both but maybe that’s a bit old ’cause I ended up paying about $ 29 and change (which is definitely still reasonable).
I didn’t catch the cashier man’s name but he was super sweet. He warned me that it would probably take an hour and a half just to get my car in the garage but I had studying to do so I didn’t really mind. There’s a cozy waiting lounge when you walk in so it was nice to chill there (it was a bit chilly though so bring a jacket). It was comfortable enough to do some reading and get distracted by the movie playing (Turbo). The cashier man was on top of changing the movie though, joking that he probably shouldn’t be putting on the next DVD (some Gabriel Iglesias stand-​up tour) while we were studying-​ish but I feel for him: if he has to stand there watching it all day, he should be able to do whatever he wants.
An hour and fifteen minutes later, my car was ready to go. There was no upsell or shady business so I was really happy with the service I received. I only have a year left in SLO but I’ll definitely stop by Nixon for any auto needs I have ’til then.

Nixon’s was recommended to me for both new tires and an oil change when I first moved to San Luis Obispo CA two years ago. I have been a happily returning customer ever since for oil changes, and cooling service. As a woman that knows very little about engines and tires (and cares even less) I initially verified with trusted experts all of the product, service, and option recommendations I received from Nixon. I have consistently found that their advice has been solid and cost effective, their service outstanding, and their professionalism exemplary. I highly recommend Nixon Tire.
