Even though I have been playing goalkeeper in a recreational soccer league for a few years, my 42 year old body always felt like it had gone through the wringer after each game, and it took me days to recover. Probably hasn’t helped that I’ve been driving a desk for my design career for the last 15 years.
After just 5 weeks of training at Athlon, I notice a huge difference in my ability in the goal. I get off my line faster, I can kick/​punt further, I can recover from saves faster, and I’m not left completely winded after a bout of activity.
At each session I learn something new about my body’s limits — range of motion, strength, power, agility, visual training — all exercises are explained to me as to how each will enhance my abilities, and it makes my workouts a fun challenge. I can’t recommend Athlon enough! :)

I have known Ryan for over 15 years and am always amazed at his ability to assess where people are at and give them the tools and coaching to get where they want to go.
In 2009, I was to begin my training for the Western States 100 mile endurance run. I met with Ryan and he was able to draft me up both a running and lifting schedule that helped me complete my goal of finishing my first 100 mile trail run.
Having been a practicing Chiropractor over the entire time I have known Ryan, he has been able to help a number of my patients’ regain their strength and go on to reach goals they didn’t even know were possible.

Great Gym and great trainers. Really know the mechanics of lifting and which muscle groups to focus on. Cory is also ridiculously good looking.

Athlon is truly a case of honest advertising. The advertising says, «Athlon empowers clients to unlock their physical potential for a fit, active, pain-​free life.» Well, before I began working with ryan, i was not sure what to do to about my severe neck pain and headaches. I have been to many PTs and chiropractors, but have never found anything that really helps. I also wanted to keep my headaches and pain from getting worse as i get older and wanted to know which exercises would not exacerbate my neck problems and other musculoskeletal issues.
Ryan has helped me significantly reduce neck pain and headaches, and find workouts i can do that don’t bring on that pain. Although i am still experimenting with exercises, I have a lot more exercises to choose from than i used to, and i feel a lot better.
Oh, and did i mention that Ryan and all the staff are friendly, helpful, and very positive. And although some may be Giants fans, i stlll find Athlon a great place to work out.

Athlon Elite, what an awesome training facility! Hands down the best fitness studio in San Luis Obispo!

I’ve been going to Athlon for a month now and I absolutely love it! The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and always upbeat! Never going to another «gym» other than Athlon as long as I am living in SLO county.

I didn’t know what to expect from a local, non-​corporate gym and was blown away by this business! The location has plenty of parking, the receptionist was warm & welcoming, and the introduction process for my free 7-​day trial was painless. The atmosphere is professional, with a PT clinic alongside the gym, but there is plenty of performance-​based areas which create a fun and uplifting experience. Hands down, one of the best experiences — and I’ve belonged to and even worked as a personal trainer in multiple gyms! Keep it up, Athlon

I joined the fitness program (Athlon Elite) a little over a year ago and I could not be happier with the results and staff at Athlon. Ryan has made certain that his staff (Haley, Angela and Cory) is highly qualified and and up to date on the best fitness programs which are offered regularly at Athlon. I have participated in both the Bootcamp program and the Elite program. Both are excellent. The Bootcamp program is great for establishing above average fitness and also includes nutritional counseling. If you want to «bump it up a notch» then the Elite program will get you to a higher level of fitness.
Whatever your sports or fitness goals, Athlon will get you the result you need to feel excellent and to achieve your higher level goals.

Why would I drive 45 minutes each way from Paso to near SLO Airport to workout?
I’ve worked with Angela for 3 months and feel stronger, fitter and more well nourished than I have in decades.
The environment has an air of achievement about it… and we willingly push to achieve our goals… I have never met a group of professional trainers who are so well educated, caring about the personal goals of their clients, and dedicated to the RESULTS we want — and more.
I’m just now returning home from a 10-​day business trip and knew EXACTLY what I had to do in hotel «gyms’ to keep me Athlon fit!

Born and raised in SLO and as a collegiate athlete, I have experienced several of the top fitness centers in SLO, LA, and San Diego. Athlon Fitness is top notch with their services and expertise. Always encouraging and never apologetic, their strength and conditioning coaches pushed me to new levels in my physical and mental fitness. Additionally they helped me recover quickly from a severe ankle sprain. Much thanks to Strength and Conditioning Couch, Cory Johnson, for taking my fitness to an elite level.

Athlon has been a part of my life for 4+ years and I am so thankful for everything it has done for me. Each member of the staff are very knowledgable and personable and will really get you to achieve the results you are looking for on a daily basis.

During my time in SLO i used many facilities in the area and nothing compares to the staff and facility at athlon. I was able to work closely with Cory who helped me come back of my broken ankle and get me back to full health quicker than any one had expected. His knowledge of expertise in the field of strength and conditioning and nutriton are bare none some of the best advice ive ever received. The enitre staff is very professional and helpful and expirienced. There was never a time where i felt that i couldnt go up and ask a question regarding my workout or diet and they wouldnt help me. Athlon embodies what a true fitness facility should be. Highly Recomemded.

I personally got to know Ryan Joiner and his staff of knowledgeable, credentialed trainers that will help you efficiently reach your fitness and sports performance goals while I was at school at Cal Poly SLO. His programs helped me reach the best shape of my life.
Ryan get’s it done out there, and all of San Luis Obispo county should know about it. I left the central coast and I wish I could find a place like this where I currently reside.
Clients are coached in proper, safe, and effective form by personable staff, like Cory Johnston (whose laugh is seriously infectious like a hyena). I know this because there’s no typical gym pressures or stigmas in this place, there’s actual laughing. A bonus while Cory helps you gain muscle and lose fat. The clientele at this place are enthusiastic and there is definitely a sense of camaraderie.
Again, 5 stars, go check this place out.

After the first week of working out at Athlon I knew I wouldn’t go to any other facility in town as long as I live in slo. I have been there for 2 years now. Ryan Joiner has created a program for athletes to get the top-​tier training that pushes you to new heights. I have worked directly with Cory through the Elite sessions as well as personal training and can say that he is the best trainer I’ve ever worked with. He understands each of his clients, their limits, and has a solution for any want/​need/​injury. I was a collegiate soccer athlete that went through two knee injuries and never got over the small nagging pain until I started up here. There is a complete balance of strength, mobility, and cardio that only Athlon can give you, and the atmosphere is very refreshing after going through 4 other health clubs and gyms in town (no meat heads).

Athlon is amazing. Unique and clean facility with very friendly staff! Cory was extremely knowledgeable and helped me increase my leg strength far beyond my other power coaches. I would highly recommend Athlon for anyone looking to train with the best.

During my time in SLO I trained at a number of gyms and none were close to Athlon in terms of both my experience and the results that I achieved. Cory helped me reach new levels of personal fitness during my time there. Any gym can have a great facility (athlon does) but it really is the staff and their attention to detail that makes Athlon a cut above the rest. I have been working out at Athlon for a year and half and have loved every minute of it!
Before Athlon I had been working out at a traditional gym for years and was responsible for determining my own workout as well as finding the self motivation needed to execute each workout. I love that Athlon provides both exceptional workouts AND the necessary motivation, a combination that always equals success!
Working out with Haley at Athlon has raised the bar for my fitness experience. Not only have I gotten stronger, including being a faster runner, but I am better at life, all around.

Great gym for all types of workout lovers. There is a place for «do-​it-​yourselfers», group training, and personal training. Their new facility, complete with olympic lifting platforms and a stretch of indoor turf, is a pleasure to train in. Owner/​trainer Ryan Joiner is a master of his craft and inspiring to work with. Trainer Cory has the experience, knowledge, and professionalism desired in a top notch trainer as well. They will find an athlete inside of you, no matter where the starting point. The location is easy to get to and there is always convenient parking. Oh yeah, and for on the go professionals, they are fully equipped with showers and locker rooms.
