Senior Living Consultants is a FREE placement agency dedicated to helping you and your loved one find Independent, Assisted, or Alzheimer’s Care Homes in your community

We understand how difficult and time consuming it can be to find an appropriate home to meet your needs. We offer a free personalized service that helps you find a living place for you or your loved one. We can help locate the right situation. These places to live can include: Independent Living Homes, Continuing Care Retirement Communities, Assisted Living Homes, Board and Care Homes, Alzheimer’s Care Homes, and Nursing Homes.

We start out with a complete assessment. This will help provide you or your loved one with the customized service that they deserve. Once we have selected some of the homes that will best meet your needs, we will have one of our Placement Specialists tour them with you. They will assist you in answerin g any questions you may have about each of the Senior facilities. After you or your loved one moves in, you are not alone. We will follow up and insure that the home we have chosen together, is doing what they promised, and meeting your needs.

Established in 1997.

As a result of her experience of placing her Father in assisted living care, she realized there was a great need for a personalized consulting service that would eliminate the confusion and the worry of finding the right placement for a loved one. She felt so strongly about this, that she left a successful career in advertising to devote her full time attention to helping people with this complicated and demanding decision.

Business Owner

Charmaine Petersen is a Placement Representative for Senior Living Consultants and a California native. She and her husband have been married for 30 years and have three wonderful children. She’s been active on the Central Coast Community for ten years, by becoming very involved with her church. At the end of the day, Charmaine looks forward to long walks on the beach with her beagle.

In 2007 Charmaine, had the opportunity to further her education in Senior Health Care by obtaining her Certified Senior Advisor Credentials. Her continuing education helps to keep her informed on the ever changing needs of our beloved seniors with better understanding of Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Social, and Financial needs of Seniors.

Not long ago, I found myself in need of finding a suitable place for my elderly father who has a limited income. After doing much research on my own and to no avail, a friend mentioned Senior Living Consultants stating they would most likely be able to help find a proper assisted living place for my dad. She was right. I called their office and the nicest and most empathetic person answered the phone, Katie.
She and the rest of their staff went out of their way to really help me find a place for my dad. Within a short time, we’d found the perfect place for him. I am grateful to Senior Living Consultants from the depths of my heart.
I highly recommend calling them to assist you in your search for a place for your loved one. We who have had to walk this journey know just how difficult and emotional the endeavor can be.

Senior Living Consultants have been a life saver! There are so many options for assisted-​living that I would’ve been lost without them. Charmaine, Kyle and Brian were very knowledgeable and caring.
The fact that it’s a free service sounds too good to be true but apparently like they get a referral small referral fee from the assisted living homes, and boy do they earn it! I saved so much time by focusing on homes they recommended in my price range that were able to support the level of care I needed.
I hear about all the citations some of these facilities have and it provided me peace of mind that Senior Living Consultants deals with these homes all the time and knows which ones to avoid.

Charmaine and the whole Senior Living Consultant bunch have been a true lifesaver. I have been dealing with encouraging my dad to move into an assisted living community. Between the help and support from Charmaine and Samantha I was able to do just that. It has taken sometime time and many tours of communities and homes to finally find the right one for my dad. still more false statements. when I went to their office I «asked» what they did to qualify the facilities before they showed them to me. I was not given any information or shown how to look up any information. This is all information that I found out myself by visiting Area Agency of Aging and I was given a list of all the facilities in Santa Barbara County and it listed the web site to check on licensing and inspections. I also later found out that Brian is Charmaine’s husband.

Senior Living Consultants was a true gift from God in helping with my Mother. Even though my Mother was beyond difficult to place they never gave up and were always willing to go the extra mile to find a place for her. I wish I could give them ten stars!

Senior Living Consultants provided much needed and very valuable assistance to our family when we needed it. It fell to us to make living arrangements for a family member in an area with which we were totally unfamiliar. Samantha, Charmaine, and Brian provided every service we needed. When you are thrown a life preserver in the middle of a crisis, you can’t help but think it will be full of lead. I had been caring for my mom for almost four years. She has dementia and was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. She took a turn for the worse and I was now unable to provide her adequate care. Sierra Vista hospital ER tried to help me but once she was admitted the rest of the hospital just wanted to discharge her before her three days. Anyone caring for a senior will know what that was all about. It has to do with Medicare. The only act that was helpful was when the «social worker» handed me the Senior Connection booklet which is funded by the Area Agency on Aging. Inside was my life preserver! An ad for Senior Living Consultants. I called the number in the ad with more than a little trepidation. Samantha answered the phone. I told her the whole story. She immediately took the reins. Gave me step by step suggestions and now my mom is in a wonderful, loving Board and Care. Samantha and everyone connected to Senior Living Consultants were absolute life savers. The wouldn’t give up until my mom was placed and comfortable. I thank them all from the bottom of my heart. Thank goodness for that advertisement!

Having to make a change in a family member’s living situation can be one of the most difficult and stressful experiences and this is an amazing service. Charmaine, Brian and Samantha are really good at figuring out options appropriate for the client’s medical care needs, their personality and budget. Because they are in such frequent contact with all the senior communities in the area, they know who has openings, what the current residents are like, what the caregivers are like, etc. Above all Charmaine and Brian are professional, experienced and caring individuals dedicated to what is best for their clients.
I did not know anything like this existed when I was dealing with my father’s situation in San Diego. I worked for Senior Living Consultants for about 3 years and learned a great deal about what is available for seniors in this area. I would not hesitate to recommend them whole heartedly.

On Dec. 26 my mother had severe sciatica and was put into Arroyo Grande Rehab (another story) Realizing Mom could not stay indefinatly at the rehab, my sistet and I contacted Senior Cinsultants and made an appt. with Brian to take us to different facilities. The day we were meeting with Brian, I received a phonecall from Charmaine.
Charmaine explained long term care and the different facilities available… and told me how our tour would be. And, then she said «Your mom grew up in World War 2 and she probably won’t like the group home because they are ran by Philipino’s. I was horrified, at the fact she assumed predjudice.
We went to our appointment with Brian, who was not informed of the ½ hour phone call. Brian, gave us the creeps! He reminded me of a used car salesman and my sister called him ’ Mr. Las Vegas. We visited one facility in A.G. and 1 horrible group home in SLO. We asked to see another group home and he said ’ you seen one, you seen them all’ I was not impressed at all due to lack of communication with in the company, wasting our time. And, Brian’s creepy demeanor! He approached female residents in both facilities and say ’ I Love You’ and pretend to take their dessert! Weird!

They helped me find my mom a great place. They were totally understanding of the challenges involved and took me to all the facilities that would be best for my mom. They worked with her doctor to get necessary paperwork completed and took a giant load off my mind. I truly felt like I had people in my corner helping me at a really tough time. When my out of town friend called me asking if I knew of somebody who could help them with her local parents, I had them immediately contact Charmaine at Senior Living Consultants.
Charmaine was amazing from the minute she received the referral, through working with my friend and her family, touring them to find a great local care facility for both mom and pop. She knows the ins and outs of each home throughout the entire San Luis Obispo county, took the time to listen to what mom and pop like to do, and really matched the people with the property. This was not an easy order, as there were five family members (and spouses) who all wanted to have input, their mom needed round the clock care, and the dad just wanted to be with his wife. Charmaine found the perfect place and made the hard transition much easier on everybody. In fact, she pleased the entire family (never an easy feat).
It’s amazing that this is a free service with a local expert. If are looking for somebody to help find a perfect place for mom and pop anywhere in San Luis Obispo county, look no further. Call Charmaine today — your family will be glad you did.

Charmaine is a gem and made a very difficult transition painless. That it is a free service is amazing, since she went above and beyond to help my family.
First of all she has this business for the right reasons. She is kind and empathetic. She really cared about us. Her team is also wonderful.
Charmaine is also VERY knowledgeable. She knows all the homes in our area so knows the pros and cons of each. She took so much time with us, helping us find the perfect fit for my 95 year old uncle. Sadly the hospital recommended a place that left us near tears (so depressing). Fortunately we found Charmaine who helped us find a lovely home AT THE SAME PRICE.
Second, as I mentioned it is a free service. Can’t beat that.
Third she helped us decide (financially and emotionally) the best solution for my uncle’s declining health, we discussed 24-​hour care at his home or at an assisted living home.
This is one of the most difficult choices a family can make. Charmaine made it so much easier.
The Central Coast is so fortunate to have her.
