The food had good flavor, but the spoon that they put at the table it was dirty. Also the service was in a rush and rude…

Great local neighborhood option for solid korean food. Service is a little harried, but they try. Food is solid. Bibimbop, grilled spicy pork, short ribs are all good. The fried udon is great, a little sloppy, but very comforting to eat. They have all the panchon which they will happily bring more of. The food is also well priced for the portions.

We just stopped in for a Friday night dinner with my family. We called ahead and they were able to put our name on the list. When we arrived there were only a few people sitting in the waiting area ahead of us. Our name was called shortly after so that was good we didn’t have to wait long. We were able to decide on our food order quickly because they gave us menus while we were waiting. We ordered a variety of food from stir fry udon noodles, to tofu soup, Kalbi, and stone pot. The side dishes came out right away while we waited for our food. I had to ask for forks and plates for the kids at the front counter because the staff didn’t come around for a while. Our food came out nice and hot. All the food was very tasty. We tried to ask for more side dishes but one of the ladies said she would come back later. She kind of brushed us off. Later we had to ask another lady. She finally brought some more side dishes out but wasn’t very friendly about it and threw it on the table. As we had a lot of food left over, I had to ask them for some boxes at the front counter and they didn’t come by again after we got the bill. I asked for a few boxes and she responded by you have to pay for your bill. I told her I already paid and she mumbled something I couldn’t understand. I asked for a few boxes and she kind of gave them to me unhappily. Overall, the food was good, the wait time was reasonable, but the service could have greatly improved. On the plus side the guy working there seem to be pretty friendly and helpful.

My mom introduced me to this place a year or two ago, I have only tried two items off the menu, which is the seafood ramen and the combination ramen. Its flavorful, your order comes with a bowl of purple rice and 6 or so little dishes of kimchi, seaweed, bean sprouts etc. I’m not sure what kind of ramen noodles they use but it does look like the ones out of the bags. It does cure my fix when I’m craving noodles though. The food comes out in a clay boiling pot, when then you can crack an egg in it to cook. Its not my go to spot but I def go to it whenever I’m craving for soup type food. lol. Food 3.8÷5 Cleanliness: 5⁄5 Service: 5⁄5 But the women’s restroom doesn’t lock, and its a one person restroom. I have been walked in on. –shrugs–

More like 3.5 stars! Came here for late lunch on Monday with a friend, ordered beef and Octopus tofu soup, and Dumpling tofu soup(my go-to). First off, the banchan: pretty good, nothing to rave about. I was sad there weren’t any noodles or little crunchy fish provided in the spread, but the sprouts and kimchi were good. Soup was very good. The spice ratings were actually accurate — I started in the middle and it was not that hot at all so now I know I can bump it up without dying! The octopus in my friend’s was fresh and cooked correctly – whole tentacles, not too chewy. Mine was good too, but I have to ask them to hold the beef next time because I don’t really like the flavor combo with the dumplings. Purple rice was cooked spot-on, and service was pleasant.

Wanted to try this place for a while now! First off, the place is so cute and yellow haha! I got the number 2 combination soft tofu soup and my boyfriend got the same thing but with noodles. The order came out pretty fast, first with the little appetizers. They were yummy, just like any typical tofu house, with the kimchi, jap chae, potatoes?, and other veggies HAHA. I ordered mines with the spice level«hot» and I was impressed at how spicy it was. The thing came out boiling ass red just how I like it. Koreans know how to make their spicy, spicy. I cracked my egg inside and let it cook. I would say 5 stars for the soup/food, and 4 for the customer service. Maybe it’s late or their almost closing, but I got the menu and literally the lady came 1 minute later and asked if we’re ready to order. She was super rushy and barely gave me enough time to look at the menu! I would advise better customer service. But the food makes up for it I guess. Also, $ 13 min credit card charge, so you can’t do half cash half card. Which kind of sucks lol. Overall, yummy.

I love love love their beef tofu soup. Even if the service is meh sometimes, the food makes me come back. The soup is full of flavor and my favorite part of SGD is that their spicy level is actually accurate of how spicy it is! A lot of places offer«Spicy» or even«Spicy Spicy» as their highest spice level and when I order and receive it, I would say it’s like the equivalent of «mild» at SGD. Here, I like to order their spicy hot level(not 100% sure that’s what it’s called, but it’s the one before the spiciest level) and that’s a perfect amount of fire for me to keep coming back here and enjoy my food without dying. I have tried their spiciest level here before and that was FIRE. I would love to eat that level all the time but sometimes I want to be able to finish my food! Haha. This particular location is nicely-sized and clean. :) Their service is usually okay. When I came here yesterday with my boyfriend, we came in during a very slow time and the employees were on their lunch. They don’t close for lunch so I kind of expected them to pay attention to us, but we were left alone for almost 10 minutes after being seated because they forgot about us, which they admitted. I’m more on the understanding side — you’re on your lunch, you’re having fun with your coworkers, but it did kind of suck to wait that long to order when you’re the only customers there waiting to order… Regardless, I normally get good service here and the tofu soup keeps me coming back. :)

Love that this place is so close to home! I always go here whenever I’m craving something soupy and there is usually never a wait. I’ve only gotten the soft tofu soup whenever I go here since the other items(appetizers and meat entrees) are pretty pricey. Included in your meal are the usual Korean side dishes(free refills) and a bowl of rice, which fills me up pretty quickly. My favorite tofu soup has got to be the mushroom tofu soup, but the original and seafood options are good as well. I love to eat spicy so I always get the ‘Hot’ level. Overall, the customer service is good and I would still come back despite the high prices.

Nothing special: just another Korean tofu house. SERVICE: ladies were nice and got us our food and side dishes pretty quickly. MENU: a lot of soft tofu pot choices including a ramen and vegetable one. They also have meat plates, appetizers like seafood pancake and spicy rice cake, and cold arrowroot noodles. Tofu pots come with purple rice. Got about 6 small plates like seaweed, fish cake slices, and bean sprouts. Not A LOT of variety, but there was a lot of each small plate. FOOD: ~ Fried noodle soft tofu($ 13): soft tofu with ramen and veggies(zucchini, carrot, onion). I played it safe and got medium spiciness and less saltiness. Sadly, it wasn’t spicy ATALL. But the tofu and ramen ratio was 50⁄50 with a fair amount of veggies. Purple rice cooked well. + BBQ Short Ribs($ 20): OK. Yes, boyfriend said it tasted great and there were 3 rib pieces. But $ 20?! That was a bit too much in my opinion. The ribs were on a bed of white onion, some of which didn’t get cooked by the ribs so it was just raw onion slices :/

Came here for a late lunch but it turns out to be dinner price already at 3pm. The food is very good but just isn’t worth the money. $ 20 for dinner entrees KBB, I rather go to el Camino and eat all you can eat Korean food. Another thing that bothered me was that they didn’t have fish cake. In most of the Unilocal pictures people had it. All in all, didn’t expect to spend $ 40 lunch for two. Call me cheap I don’t care. Good tasting food though

I’m so pleased to have a quality Korean Restaurant in Blossom Valley. Although I personally think it’s super pricey, the staff is super friendly and the food is super tasty and delicious. I like everything I’ve ordered here. Spicy Pork Korean Beef Short Ribs Bulgogi Beef Spicy Tofu Soup Seafood Pancake Their unlimited ban chan selection and purple rice are great accompaniments to the main entrees.

Their soondubu is absolutely amazing. I am a soondubu snob because I’ve had the best soondubu… The spicy level is ridiculous, first off. I can honestly say I have never experienced a spicy level to this extreme EVER before for soondubu until I came to this SGD. The Hubby and I are spicy-obsessed and their«spicy» soondubu surpassed every level we have tried before. Most places have soondubu with inconsistent amounts of soup and dubu(tofu). Here at SGD, there is a generous amount of soup, which is my favorite part. I don’t like it when my soondubu consists of ALL dubu. I love the soup! And the soup here is beyond spectacular. The meat cuts are not all fat, which I also dislike. Their beef soondubu has nice cuts of meat pieces that I will actually eat instead of picking out and dumping. The management is on point as well. I had a not-so-stellar experience here once where the service was sub-par. The owner made it right almost immediately. I was very impressed with his genuine desire and willingness to be right with his customers. This is the reason why I will continue to frequent this establishment. If you are looking for the best soondubu in town, def come to SGD. Although you will not find many Koreans at this location, don’t let that deter you. They know how to make their soondubu!

Although it wasn’t for this particular location, I’ve had SGD Tofu House and its soon doobu bookmarked for the longest time. So, on that count, shame on me for not ordering the thing I had bookmarked them for in the first place. At the same time though, shame on them if soon doobu is the only dish on their menu worth trying. Not that I would know either way… That being said, given how hungry we were, as well as how it wasn’t a particularly cold night(we were here before the winter storms), none of us were really in the mood for soup. A mistake in hindsight, but at the time, ordering a bunch of different dishes to share certainly didn’t seem like a bad idea. Especially since it meant being able to try that much more and so that«The Unilocaler will have more to write about». Thanks, man! I think??? – BANCHAN ( ) The variety was pretty standard/basic(kimchi, fishcake, beansprouts, japchae, seaweed, and spicy radish), but they were all just fine. My favorite was the japchae, which not every place will include with the banchans, and the fishcake, which I’m always ready to devour. – KIMCHIANDSPAMPANCAKE…$ 15.17 ( ) The best dish we had, though that says more about everything else. I’ve never seen Spam in a pancake before, but it worked really well(of course!). The pancake’s crispiness was great too, but I still prefer the seafood flavor of a regular haemul pajun. Not bad at all though. – KIMCHIFRIEDRICE…$ 14.25 ( ) To put it bluntly? One of the worst I’ve had. To me, the overall texture was really wet(almost gloppy) and the rice was a bit tough, but the biggest issue was simply the taste. I’m not sure how to describe it though; not exactly sour(which you’d expect), but definitely not appetizing. – BBQPORK…$ 15.40 ( ) Much like with the Kimchi Fried Rice, the taste of this one was a little off-putting. I assume that the dish was supposed to be spicy, but the sauce had more sweetness than spice to it. An even bigger shame too, since the pork itself was moist and decently flavorful. – BULGOGI…$ 15.40 ( ) Pretty average, I guess. On the one hand, the portion was fairly generous and the marinade had was pretty decent. On the other, the beef was kind of dry and hardly dressed. Looking back, the Kalbi might have been a better choice, as the cut would have had a beefier taste to it. Given their multiple locations, and their relative popularity, it’s clear I’m in the minority on this one. However, my friends agreed that all of our dishes had an unexpected sweetness to them. Then again, maybe all of the positive reviews are just for their soon doobu. I’m sure I’ll try it one day, but I can’t say I’m as motivated anymore. The silver lining to this? This proves I’m not a groupie of any and every popular Korean restaurant. Just most of them.

It was the day after Christmas and like most people, my hubby and I were running around trying to return and exchange gifts.(Honestly, that’s one of the worst things about the holiday season.) So needing the fuel for what would be quite the grueling day, he and I decided to have Korean for lunch, and since SGD Tofu House was right next to the mall, it made for the perfect pit stop. The parking lot is a little tighter than most places, but luckily we were able to find a spot before a whole line of cars started coming in. The restaurant itself is REALLY big. We could almost hear our voices bounce off the walls. The yellow walls are plastered with cute kid-drawings and the tables are made of smooth, pale wood that really brightened up the place. When we got there, there were a bunch of tables left, but then again, considering how large the restaurant is, maybe there is never really a wait. A woman(who we believe is the owner) led us to our table and quickly gave us two glasses of water. The menu isn’t too extensive, but you get the typical tofu soup, fried pancake, and meat dishes. For our lunch, we decided to order the BBQ beef and the tofu dumpling soup(medium spicy). Service was a little spotty. At first, it looked like the whole place was managed by the owner because she was the only one running around serving food so we weren’t really paid much attention to. Then to our surprise, a man sitting at the table beside us, who was eating with a woman and child, suddenly stood up and asked for our order. Uh… okay? Now per usual of Korean restaurants, complimentary sides are served for each table, but unfortunately we got our sides about a good 20 minutes after we ordered which was honestly too long of a wait. However, the lengthy time was made better by the numerous choices we had ranging from kimchi, fried tofu, noodle salad, and potato. All of the sides were super delicious, especially the fried tofu which was our favorite(sweet and tangy). We also got two bowls of purple rice with beans. The tofu soup came out first and it was steaming hot, the perfect time to add the raw egg. Surprisingly, even at that high temperature, the dumplings held up pretty well. They were definitely on the mushier side, but the filling stayed inside the dough. Flavor wise, the soup was just as we expected and the kick of heat was perfect. There was a lot of tofu in the soup and there were even little pieces of beef included in there. I was pleased that we were given a total of six dumplings that were all quite big. They certainly weren’t stingy with those. As for the BBQ beef, the plate didn’t come out steaming hot like other places we had been to, but it certainly wasn’t cool. The taste of beef was definitely prominent, but there was just something a bit«plainer» about the flavor. Still, the beef was super tender. We just wish there was a bit more sauce since it got a tad bit dry near the end. Price wise, SGD is cheaper than other Korean places we have been to, but the portions aren’t any smaller. The side dishes were super addictive and our entrees were well prepared. While the service was a little slow, we were still extremely pleased with our visit and will likely make our trek back soon to try other dishes. Can’t wait!

One of my favorite Korean spots in San Jose if not the whole South Bay! This place is neatly nestled in the Santa Teresa Shopping center. It has a really homey feel, perpetuated by their super friendly staff. There’s hardly ever a wait, and you can usually expect to be able to pick your own seating. As far as soft tofu goes, this place is legit. They have a variety of options and will accommodate any substitutions, if requested. If you’re not in the mood for a boiling hot soup served in stoneware, I recommend the bibimbap. It is also served in stoneware and is quite fun to eat. Of course, Korean cuisine would not be complete without the side dishes! Rest assured you will leave with a full stomach and a warm, fuzzy feeling!

so we were craving some Korean tofu n bbq after we got back from our warm vacay in Cabo.(omg, the weather is freezing in San Jose now!) our gut told us to just go to our usual SGD Tofu House on Blossom Hill. u can never go wrong there. it’s always the same tasty n warm food with all those delicious side dishes. even on a Tuesday night, the restaurant was bustling n most of the tables were full of ppl. we got a table pretty fast n ordered our favorites. the service is always on point there. when I say on point, I mean we had 4 ppl n only ordered 2 main entrees so we should’ve gotten 2 bowls of rice. instead they were all given a bowl of rice just cuz they want to make the customers happy to b eating there. total plus! they r also always pretty fast at refilling our sides dishes when they look empty. their side dishes r all the ones we usually like eating too. i.e. potato, fishcake, seaweed, sprouts, kimchi. the restaurant is located in the same plaza as TLeaf Teaspresso n Pizza my Heart so parking should b no problem. Seafood Pancake: more crispier than most other Korean restaurants n the amount of squid is more also.(love squid!) Mushroom Tofu: the amount of tofu seems endless. could use a bit more mushroom but I’m being picky. this could b shared between 2 ppl. the egg they give to put into the tofu is great cuz there’s a protein element there if u don’t order any other meats. BBQ Beef: we asked for mild so it was still a bit spicy which we could liked. the amount was perfect. the onion slices underneath also has good flavor from the beef. Purple Rice: this is given free with any main entrée u order. I love this city it’s healthy n has the right texture for rice. I actually thought it was taro rice when I got it the first time cuz of the color. can ppl start creating that? that would b AWESOME.

Bad customer service — as we walked in, the server didn’t great us, didn’t even give eye contact; she just pointed at a table. We sat down, she threw us 2 menus and left; we tried to give her signal that we were ready to order, but she kept ignoring until the other lady saw us and took the order. We ordered two tofu soups; we also wanted to try the lunch portion of the beef short ribs, but we were told that it was too late because they stopped serving«lunch» already(it was about 2:30pm). The soups and side dishes were alright, not the best we’ve tried but definitely better quality than the Tofu House in Santa Clara. Would not want to come back here again though.

The first time I had Kimchi Soft Tofu was at SJ Omogari in Japantown and I fell in love right away, but something was missing from the KST at SJ that I was thankfully introduced to a SGD… a raw egg cracked and cooked in my very own pipping hot, boiling KST… I’m hooked and fascinated at the same-time(basically at how I don’t get salmonella every time I crack that egg and let it cook, its so cool to see the egg poaching in that spicy red broth). So as you guessed I am a huge fan of the dish. What I am also a huge fan of is the service and the family that runs the place. The younger owner has kids and he has been so kind to my two kids since the first time we came in even giving my daughter a special candy treat after the meal and even when we come to pick up take out(stupid me but a few weeks back we came to pick up something to go because we were right around the corner and I forgot they we’re closed on Sundays, I was super bummed) he remembers me and asks about the kids. Listen the food is always a large determining factor of how we rate places and our overall experience of a local eatery but when you have good food and amazing people it takes the 3.5−4 star review over the top to a 5 star review and that is what SGD is in my case. Ok so the food… we love the Japchae for the kids, they can’t get enough noodles, and every time they slurp the noodle in their mouths they smile and dive in for more, ahhh the memories we make! My wife loves the Short ribs and she also is a fan of the Veggie Soft Tofu. As stated early Kimchi Soft Tofu is my go to and for good reason its flippin delicious espeically on a cold day or when you’re feeling a little run down. I get it as spicy as it comes(aka Super Hot) and I let my nose run and slurp that beautiful goodness down. I also like the rotating options in the banchan, they are also good at coming by to ask us if we’d like more of anything(more kimchi please!!). Sometimes I flinch at the price I just paid for soup and some noodles but a happy family and full bellies always results in a happy paying dad. In the end we are super pleased with SGD and we’ll continue to be patrons for years to come!

Who doesn’t love a boiling hot bowl of tofu soup? Especially with the cold weather coming upon us and with hardly any Korean/tofu places in that area of San Jose, SGD comes through to save the day! If you’ve never been to a Korean restaurant before, you’re served various small sides while you look at your menu. The potatoes are always my favorite because they’re soft and sweet! You can’t go wrong with any of the tofu’s to be honest because they will all be delicious. It’s just a matter of preference whether you want ramen or beef or etc. We ordered the original tofu with beef and the BBQ beef. Both did not disappoint! This is a solid place on the south side of sj for tofu.

It’s a 3.5 It’s a traditional, genuine cuisine. Not as fine as other Tofu houses I have tried(especially the ‘small’ appetizer dishes), but great food. I love the ‘super spicy” squid and BBQ beef pot soup(that actually come with an egg and purple rice). It’s really nice, rich taste. You can choose you spicyness level. The only reason why I rate it 3 is because«yummy tofu and BBQ» is definitely a 4 and that SGD is, to my taste, ‘not as great’ but don’t get me wrong! It’s a good Korean restaurant, more like a Korean«canteen» I was going to when I was on missions in Korea. Big portions of Kimshi and Spam cake. The cake was a bit too oily. Very nice staff. Good service.
