Chill neighborhood sushi bar don’t expect too much an you will be thrilled. Chill and relaxed. Nothing spectacular but you will never be disappointed. Never say no but never really crave.

I don’t have any good things to say about my first and only experience at kampai. The service was downright awful. The server could not help me find something on the menu and when I received my entrée udon soup, not only was it utterly bland but it was scalding hot and burnt my mouth. They would not let me exchange it for something else. What kind of customer service is that?! I would not recommend this place.

Good not great. I want to love Kampai. It’s pretty close to home and has some nice menu offerings, but the service is really lacking. I’ve never had a great service experience in the 4 to 5 times that I’ve been here. We tried Kampai when it first opened and assumed that the less-than-stellar experience was due to being so new and still working out all of the kinks and whatnot. We were hopeful with each subsequent visit, but we’ve been sorely let down. Every. Single. Time. The food is average. It’s not bad, but I’m never left dreaming about my next visit. They have another location on Branham, which is a little bit better in terms of service.

So it is 09:35pm, place closes at 10pm, It’s Saturday night. We are getting in, people around us are being seated, and ordering food. We are get an «it’s closed» from a very rude person behind the bar. Had to leave the place, couldn’t dine. Never again kampai!

I’ve given Kampai a few tries for lunch, but it’s disappointed me each time. For lunch, I typically do a bento box. Here’s what I’ve tried: — Chicken terriyaki: Cold and very dry — Beef terriyaki: Okay but nothing great — California rolls: Not bad but not as good as Cha Cha sushi — Gyzo: Nasty tasting Service is not great, and that’s being kind. It always feel like we’re inconveniencing the servers to take our order. I like the concept and décor of Kampai, but it fails to execute. I would rather wait in line at Cha Cha Sushi.

First time to this sushi restaurant… FANTASTIC! The sushi rolls were large and very flavorful. Service was prompt and friendly. I will certainly be back. Note: it looks like they have a good selection of Japanese beers and saki too.

We just had dinner and this place is 5 stars! Baked mussels were delicious! We had the seaweed salad, lion King roll, and the 49’s roll were items we will order again when we come back. The staff were very friendly and ambiance was awesome!

As much as I hate leaving a 1 star review, this place has definitely earned it!!! As we walked into the restaurant, we all noticed that it had a nice and modern feel to it’s décor. Too bad they failed to execute, as our entire party was eager and famished! Here it goes: I was with anther couple that had an 18 month old baby boy, so I let them put their order in first. As my friend’s wife asked a few questions about the menu, I noticed that the lady taking the order was getting a little irritated. Okay, no big deal, maybe she was having a bad day. Drum roll please… His wife is now ready to order, and she calls out the Chicken Teriyaki from the Kids Menu. Pretty straight forward right? Write it down, and ask for the next item! The lady then responds with, «That is too much food for your kid!» Seriously? Who gave her the right to dictate how much food a parent can order for their child??? Not cool! Mom and Dad were actually dumbfounded at this point, so I knew it would probably be best to bail. At one point in the conversation, the waitress attempted to back pedal, but the damage was done. Although I wanted to give our waitress a piece of my mind, I respectfully let her know that we would not be dining their tonight, nor would we be in the future. Conclusion: Although I will not be patronizing this location moving forward, their other location off of *Branham Ln. has a totally different crew. Service at this location is top notch! It is obvious that the lady we dealt with skipped out on her Customer Service Training. «I WON’T BEBACK!»

Long line at Cha Cha Sushi? Come on over and try Kampai. They have a variety of foods(sushi, sashimi, noodles/ramen, tofu soup, bento box, donburi, etc.) and SAKE! Pretty comparable to Cha Cha if you ask me. I’ve been here twice and surprisingly, the food is pretty good. The place is pretty small, so I wouldn’t recommend a large group of 6+. The staff are friendly, but the servers could use a bit more training. Overall, I’d come back here again to get my sushi fix. Below are the following items that I’d recommend: Appetizers — Fried Oysters(6 pieces) — BOMB! — Miso Soup — Jalapeño Boom(4 pieces) Rolls — Kampai Dragon — Sexy Bf: MUSTTRY. there’s BEEF on top of this roll! — Bacon King — if you love bacon, you gotta check this out We also ordered the Beef Tofu Soup, but our server forgot about it. We asked for it 3 times and asked 2 different people. They kept saying that they would«check on it», but never came back. We told them to cancel it the 4th time around. Our server came out and apologized and said it was his first night. then he came out with 2 complimentary green tea ice cream, which made our night a little better.

It was warm in the restaurant. Bad sign for a sushi place. The sushi is ok, overly sauced and didn’t seem fresh. Service is ok. Didn’t have an item I ordered(it was only 3pm, on a Monday) =\ I won’t be back. You’ll be happier waiting out the line at Cha Cha in the same plaza… I’m kicking myself for not doing so.

The other sushi place at the plaza had an hour wait time, even as early as at 530pm! Wandered over to a quite empty Kampai, given we were set on Japanese for dinner for that evening. Waited at the door to be seated, one of the waiters was too busy«interacting» with his lady customer at the bar, to the point someone behind the counter yelled at us to go seat ourselves«anywhere». So we sat ourselves, and waited for service while two other tables that came after us were given their menus by yet another waiter. When we asked for our menus, «menus? oh you need menus!» … As we were looking through our menus, the first waiter who had finished«interacting» with his lady friend at the bar, came and asked us to move as they needed to combine our table for a large group. Well, my friend, if you had paid attention, and done your job, you would not have to aggravate your customers by moving them around the(small) restaurant after they were told to go seat anywhere themselves! Overall, the service level of the waiters were pretty abrupt even by Korean restaurants standards, but the establishment was saved by their only waitress, who was pleasant and enthusiastic in her service. Big change from her male counterparts and nice save from a 1 star rating! As to the food, nothing to shout about — I had their dinner bento, with saba and spicy tuna roll — saba was tasty but not very fresh, spicy tuna roll was ok, but the roll was not tight, letting the cut pieces kind of collapse on itself — doesn’t affect the taste, but Japanese food is also about the environment and aesthetics. The joke to me was the pieces of orange they provided with the bento — the slices of lemons they put into the water seemed thicker than the slices of orange they provided!(and all along, I thought lemons were expensive!) The tofu soup, we had better elsewhere. Overall portions, not tiny but seems smaller than elsewhere. I would not recommend large groups, as they have only a few tables that can seat groups of 4. Of course they can combine tables, but that would mean moving their other customers around! Perhaps a business strategy depending on the overflow of customers from the successful competitor down the plaza may work; be an interesting case study to observe from afar.

Had lunch with my boyfriend here today for the first time. We loved it! Very clean place and they have a bar, always a plus! The employee who helped us was very nice and made us feel welcomed. I also like that they open early on Sunday’s. We had Korean spicy chicken and rainbow roll.

Came here around 5 pm and got seated right away, which gives this place another win compared to cha cha where there’s always a waiting list. The menu is endless ranging from sushi to ramen to even the infamous soft tofu soups at every Korean cuisine. This place has a huge mixture of different plates and if you’re looking for variety, here is the perfect spot. Can’t decide over Korean bbq ribs or sushi? How about both! I tried the sexy bf roll which is one of their most popular, sushi with beef on top? Oh my… Heaven in my mouth. I also tried the sizzling corn cheese, super Alaskan roll, and spicy edamame. Everything was so mouthwatering and drenched in flavor. On top of that, they gave us complimentary deep fried Oreos to end our meal, how sweet!(Literally) our waitress was also super friendly and charming, didn’t get her name but definitely look forward to that lady’s service again!

I’ve been here several times for lunch and 1 time for dinner. We actually found this place because it was too crowded at Cha Cha(sushi restaurant in same plaza). It was new at the time. Kampai is different from traditional sushi restaurant since it offers some Korean dishes as well but I have not tried any. Sushi and sashimi there are not bad at all. In fact, they do have thick cut pieces of fish. Their fish is also fresh. I noticed that every time I’ve been there. They don’t have a lot of rolls. I mean, they do have all the basic ones like spider rolls, cherry blossom, etc. but nothing more creative. They have several lunch combo options(bento box) which you can customize what you want and the portion is pretty good. Given the restaurant is fairly small and not packed, their service sometimes is quite slow. Overall, I don’t have any favorite nor this is one of my favorites, but it is close to my house and decent enough for me to fulfill my sushi craves.

I’ve come here twice now and the Sushi is surprisingly good.(Not what I expected.) I’ve had a few things on the menu like the Soy Garlic wings, they are very crunchy and flavorful. The Gyoza appetizers are good as well and served piping hot. The sushi is fresh and the sushi rice just has the right amount of flavor. I had the Spicy Tofu Soup and it was good but not the best. So they can improve this. They also sell Bim Bim Bap(sp? stone pot mix rice) I’ll try this next time probably. The dining area and floor is very clean. The fish is fresh and the menu has many items. Kampai has 5 or 6 beers on Tap which is Awesome! Also they have 3 Large screen TV’s with DirecTV HD and they’ll change the channel to any thing you want as long as they have it. ****4 Stars I’ll be back.

Really really good sushi but limited amount of special rolls and sort of a small space. My fav roll here I haven’t seen anywhere else it’s a Bacon topped roll. Absolutely delicious I will definitely come back for this again… and again.

Cheers a.k.a Kampai or Kanpai. To celebrate or party! Yes, I actually looked it up. Ordered: — Wings(12 piece) $ 14.95 — Rainbow Blossom $ 14.95 — Kampai Dragon $ 14.50 Tina’s Treasures and Tribulations — Total of $ 48.29 — Plenty of parking spaces and pretty small restaurant — It seemed like one of the waitresses didn’t want to be there and the other was the owner by the way she carries herself — The wings weren’t as crispy as we wanted it to be, but the sauces were definitely distinguishable. There were three to choose from and if you wanted to do half & half then it’s an extra $ 1.00 charge — Flavors for wings are original, soy garlic, or spicy Korean sauce. We went with the last two; the soy garlic was definitely salty with the soy ingredient, but both really seemed like it made the wings a little soggy with it being dipped in the sauce versus possibly cooking it with the sauce(my assumption) — Rainbow Blossom was good! They aren’t shy about the flying roe, but maybe a little on the sashimi. It had different types though so kudos on that — Kampai was pretty good as well. Similar to rainbow blossom except it had the fried portion inside and yummy goodness sauce. — I haven’t really tried their full menu of this Asian fusion half Japanese and Korean place to it’s full potential so I might be back!

I was really excited for this place but it turned out to be a big disappointment. I’m not sure why there are so many new mediocre restaurants opening up in the bay area lately. This one is can be added to that list. But I have to say the service was good. We ordered many items from the menu. Usually you can never go wrong with fried, right? The fried baby octopus and Korean fried chicken tasted only partially fried and/or over fried. The octopus came with tonkatsu dipping sauce which was an awkward combination. The beef teriyaki was overcooked and dry. The grilled mackerel did not taste fresh at all, it was almost like frozen fish that was just heated up. The rolls were just okay, I think Safeway sushi might have been better and cheaper. I’m not sure where these 4 or 5 stars reviews are coming from but in my opinion this restaurant has a lot of things it needs to improve on before it gets there.
