San Jose Founders’ Day Fandango

I saw a mention of SJ Founders’ Day Fandango from a flyer I saw at SJ City Hall. Then I read it in the SJ Mercury though only a short mention of it.
I’m glad I went and recommend it to others if you live in the Bay Area.
This event is to celebrate the founding of El Pueblo de San Jose de Guadalupe in 1777. They hold it in July for the weather, this yr it was Sun 7÷26÷09.
I got there early & saw the Spanish Flag raising & reading of the Pueblo Charter. SJ Councilmember Kansen Chu & his wife, & Councilmember Pete Constant & his kids were there.
Saw the Alta California dancers & Calicanto Singers
FREE tour of the Peralta Adobe & Fallon House. Now they only offer the tours for groups of 10 or more for $ 5pp. Best to go on the Founders’ Day Fandango. Both Small but still worth going — tour of Fallon House about 20 min, 10 min for Peralta Adobe.
For the kids:
tortilla making — that was fun. Got to make a tortilla & then after it was cooked could eat it.
Pottery making — I saw the guy Ruben Reyes talking w/​the kids, didn’t stay for the whole thing.
Make dolls out of corn husks
Paper hats looked cool
FREE parking on the street & in the San Pedro Parking Garage.
If you missed it this yr, plan for it next yr.

I was looking through the Metro Mag a few weeks ago and I seen an event planned at the Peralta Adobe & Fallon House.
Beening a lifetime resident of San Jose it seemed odd I had never heard of this Founders’ Day event.
I had made other plans for the same day, but luckily I was still able to make it before everything was already over.
They had some kids in time period dress doing folk dances.
Thats was pretty nice to see them having a good time.
There was also a few other volunteers also in period costume.
I wish I had brought my camera.
They had a Few booths setup to show what people made during the early years of San Jose.
There was a pottery table, a table to make old school tortillas, a basket weaving table, a candle making table, a spinging table where they made string or yarn, and there was a doll making table.
Everything was hands on.
There was also free tours of the Adobe and the Fallon house, which is usually like 6 bucks or so.
if you really want to feel connected to San Jose this kinda thing would be right up your alley.
there was a few groups out there talking about thier part in the history of San Jose, and I am sure they wouldn’t mind adding any new comers.
