great place, great haircuts! the students are well trained and care a lot about giving a good hair cut and the instructors are very knowledgeable and hold the students to a high standard. been going here for more than 6 months now and am very happy. will recommend to others.
PS: room for improvement: Mens hair cuts can take up to 3 hours if the place is crowded. the students need the instructor sign off to complete the hair cut. and the instructors are very very busy.

The school reached out to me and offered to fix my hair (a big plus in terms of customer service)– I decided this time to go to the day school and had a much better experience. Two girls worked on re-​bleaching my hair, and actually toned and blew dry it! Went in on a Monday and it took ~5.25 hours. Ashley (the teacher) did a great job this time as did the people who did my hair.
They were much more realistic in terms of what they could do/​accomplish in my process of being blonde/​platinum. Currently it’s slightly yellow, but I think that’s b/​c of my hair not due to the bleaching process or toning.
Booked with the same girl a month from now (Jasmine)! Fingers crossed the third time will be much more like this time.

When it happens three times I think it is time I let other persons beware when making an appointment in advance. I have been called the day before and the week before to have appointments canceled. First time was in July the week of my son getting married. Second, August just hoping to get in and told a speaker was coming in that day and the appointment canceled. Now just yesterday a week before my appointment canceled because they are not in session. The customer service when you call back sucks. They are unapologetic and make no attempt to accommodate you for a reschedule. I have a relative going to school here was the only reason I was going to try and help them but it is not worth it! The kids on the floor are great the persons making the appointment suck.

I’ve had better haircuts at this school than I often get in high-​end salons, and the cuts cost maybe a third or quarter of what they’re worth. Leslie was fantastic and asked for my input every step of the way. She had amazing cutting skills, especially considering she’s still a student. My last cut with Amanda was just as great, and I loved talking with both of them.
The facilities at this location are also top notch! I used to go to the San Diego school, but the facility was much older and they didn’t provide as many services. This place even looks like a high-​end salon inside. You must expect services to take a little longer, but since the work is supervised, your stylist will take their time and do a careful job, which doesn’t always happen elsewhere. I highly recommend this location!

This place is awesome! Extra help and Sierra is amazing! Took my black roots back to blonde! Which is hard to do on my hair. So thank you to Sierra all the whole team! Especially before Thanksgiving!

Got a great haircut from one of the students, will go back again!

I don’t know why I waited so long to make an appointment. The prices cannot be beat. I came in with some much needed TLC on my bleached and damaged hair. They were able to get me fixed up perfectly with my color and cut. As a previous review mentioned, time is not of the essence here, so be patient. It’s a busy place and the students are learning so it will take time.
Luckily they offer a really great deal on Unilocal which I took advantage of right away. Note that you have to use the entire amount of the voucher it all at once, but finding the right products are perfect for this deal. It also has to be printed, but they were kind enough to let me log in there and get it printed.
They all seem to be off to a very good start from what I can tell, but I’d recommend a doll of a student Rita. She is very concerned about doing the job right. I’ve been to her twice now and plan on continuing until as long as I can. Both teachers are excellent in ensuring you get the results you want and need.

I got a decent cut here once. I had a short layered bob but it took 2 hours. I feel asleep while the lady was curing my hair.
I’d rather pay a little more to get my hair cut faster.

I loved my experience at paul Mitchell the school San Jose ! It was a nice ride ! Staff and learning leaders are amazing ! My favorite was Jamie, very nice, professional and helpful since day one. I would definitely recommend this school. Ask about Jamie to register.

Got an amazing facial done with Cathy here! I had issues with stubborn clogged pores. She not only cleared 99% of that, but she was extremely knowledgable about the after care which I plan to follow. My skin feels fabulous!!!

Just received an awesome facial from Cathy Doan. This was my first time getting a facial at Paul Mitchell school. I was enticed by the Unilocal check in deal. It was totally worth it! You can’t even tell she’s a student, she was very professional and my treatment was exactly what I wanted and more. I left very happy. I would gladly return and would definitely request Cathy again!

I work right near the salon and coworkers told me it was a good deal and they did good work. So I tried it out for a wash and blow dry.
On a Thurs, in the late afternoon, I scheduled an appointment for the following Monday. In the online form, you put in your requested time, back up times if your preference isn’t possible, and leave any comments. I added that my hair was pretty thick and may take longer to dry, and that I had uneven hair (growth), which also could make the job longer to do.
I got a confirmation email that my request was received, which stated that I would receive a confirmation of my final appointment time. By Fri late morning, I didn’t receive anything back yet, so I called to finalize stuff. I scheduled things just fine, although it was kinda annoying that the online form wasn’t reliable.
At the appointment, I had to review several times what I filled out on the form– my hair’s thickness and uneven length, to the student and the instructor who came around a few times to inspect work/​give advice. Other than that, my stylist did a great job. She went through what I wanted for the service up front and quoted me the price for it on a form/​piece of paper. After my shampoo, she offered a tea tree face wrap thingy which felt very refreshing.
During the blow dry, the stylist was a little clumsy with her tools– brush and hairdryer– but did a great job nonetheless. Since it’s a school, so I wasn’t surprised by this and other unpolished details, and don’t think this should dock any stars from my review. Since the stylist did a great job and the prices are super low ($ 10 for my wash & blow dry), I give it a 5 and will definitely be back!

I received a peel from her and she was fantastic! She had a great touch and was VERY therapeutic thought the entire facial. I hadn’t had a facial in years and she literally put me to sleep! I highly recommend her and her services.

very professional and trendy looking facility. you get the impression you’re about to shell out $ 500 buckaroos for a haircut. but prices were affordable and my haircut came out better than I have ever !! I will be back every week now until all my hair falls out of my head. oh yea. they are all up to date with all the latest hair fashions which is a plus for me!

I made a hair appointment here after receiving a flyer with my move-​in package at my One South Market apartment (which I also really like!).
I was slightly skeptical since all the services are done by students, but trusted the website in that the teachers give guidance during appointments and all will be good in the end (and it was amazing). :)
After check-​in, I was greeted by Azia who informed me that she would be cutting my hair. Since I hadn’t been to the school yet, she gave me a tour of the facilities first.
I was really impressed by how she could take what I said about my hair and help me choose what I should do with it.
After that, her teacher came by and they discussed what she had proposed to make sure it was a good idea.
I could do a minute-​by-​minute review of my experience here, but I’ll cut to the chase: they do a really good job and make sure everything is correct, at each step of the process. It’s also MUCH cheaper since the services are done by students. Make sure that you set aside at least 3 hours — I was there for 2.5 hours for just a hair cut (trim + layers), which makes sense sine the teacher reviews the progress every so often. However, I walked out extremely happy and with an amazing haircut!

I love love love my hair! Trimmed and colored to my liking, my stylist Esmeralda Cruz exceeded my expectations. She asked me what I wanted, and how I wanted it. I told her to do what she thinks is best and I go home with black, soft, long and luscious hair. Aside from her skills and instinct, her etiquette and easy to talk to personality made a shy girl like me feel very comfortable. She really went out of her way to make my hair lovely. Definitely booking an appointment with her in the near future.
Tip: Keep in mind that these are students who are doing their best to service your hair to your exact liking, and they are still learning. They also have to be approved by their educators time to time, which really adds on to the time that you’re there.
The only thing that I did not like was the parking garage. I paid 25 dollars for parking there, and I couldn’t even validate my ticket because I was there for about 4 ½ hours. Park far, and walk!

I went here every week for 5 weeks for facials/​LED lights/​chemical peels. Linda was the instructor that helped out with the process. At the time, my sister was attending the school– but her classmate worked on my facial every time. I really like that the teacher was engaged and really helped them figure out what was best for my acne prone skin.
I received different treatments every week. One week would be a chemical peel. (I peeled for 4 – 5 days and was not in the most confident state of mind) but it worked out! The next week would be a microdermabrasion, or a basic facial– depending on how my skin was going.
I haven’t gone in a while, but I would definitely come back for a facial + some LED lights. I’ve seen a significant difference in my skin. I still have redness and occasional break outs, but it was nothing like I had before.
More so, I’m confident enough in the instructors at this place, to go to even though my sister graduated. If you do plan to come here, be aware of the parking meters! I parked at a 1hr parking meter because I was only going to do a basic facial… came out 5 – 10 mins late and already received a $ 45 ticket.
There’s a two hour parking meter right next to the school that you could also pay for more time through a phone app.

AMAZING! Coming back again. I live in SF and finally got the chance to come here on a weekday now that I’m on spring break. They take walk ins or appointment. My friend who works here got me in quick and set me up with a great hairstylist name Bunni. She was super nice and did an amazing job! Exceeded my expectations. Bunni was attentive and did her best to get the hairstyle that I wanted. I love my hair! I was blown away by all services that they offer at such cheap prices!
Now it is a school so you have to be patient :) but totally worth the time for the value you get: D I’m coming back soon!

Such a «meh» experience with my hair cut today. I parked in the lot and came in early hoping that I could get started early, but instead waited till 3pm on the dot to start (sigh, $ 1.25 per 15 minute parking in the lot).
Probably the shortest, laziest shampoo I’ve ever had with a cut before. Wet my hair for about 2 minutes and then started the cut.
I was going for a mature, short to long from front to back look. Instead I got a bob cut that my grandma probably gave me in the 2^nd grade (and it took her 15 minutes, while the stylist and learning coach took 2 full hours). Also, just take a look at the front. I mean, at least my grandma gave me even ends in the front…
I was supposed to get a conditioning, but stylist and learning coach took until closing and then were rushing through, so my treatment was forgotten (and I wasn’t willing to stay an extra 3 hours for it to finally happen.)
With the college discount, my cut was only $ 11 (not including tip), but parking cost about $ 14 for the 2.5 hours, for a grand total of $ 28, 2 and a half wasted hours, and one uneven «meh» haircut. Unilocalers, i’d recommend just shelling out for an actual salon unless you’re into uneven ends.

Overall, very satisfied with the service and cut that I got here. Nguyen took her time, followed directions to a letter, and at the end I really liked the cut she gave me.
There’s nothing worse than a stylist that rushes, but Nguyen put attention into the details, and the result was exactly in line with what I wanted. This was the first time that I had gotten a cut at a Paul Mitchell school and I will definitely come back.
I brought my girlfriend because I wanted her to make sure the stylist did a good job but I was confident in Nguyen. At the end, my cut got the girlfriend seal of approval, and that’s really what counts anyways.
If management here is reading this review, give Nguyen an A+ for the job well done and a very satisfied customer. I’m definitely coming back and my girlfriend is also going to get her hair done by Nguyen. Keep up the good work!
