Great ice cream and mochi’s in the heart of San Jose Japan Town. It’s not overly priced and the quality is top notch. I’m a sweet tooth and this place was able to satisfy my cravings. There are plenty of ice cream places in San Jose, but this is one of the better ones.
Service is fast and kind, which is something I’m always on the lookout for. You can’t go wrong with getting ice cream with a smile. Overall, a big thumbs up from me.

I have seen other people try this place and finally, I can say that I tried this place too and I loved it. I came here just mainly for their mochi ice cream and How I love it.
My girlfriend and I just got their 3 piece ice cream mochi. We got their green tea, chocolate peanut butter, and their red bean. As other people have mention, the mochi ice cream are like dead frozen when they give it you. I recommend wait some minute before eating it. Chat with your friend or something before eating it.
After we have defrost it fro like 10 minute, we took a bite. The mochi was soft yet the ice cream was still creamy. Of all the flavor that we try, I really like the chocolate peanut butter the most.
If you are in the area, then come give this place a try.

Yes, you will spend a little bit more here than at the grocery store or other ice cream places.
But Jimbo’s is worth the extra couple of bucks.
The ice cream comes from Santa Cruz and is delicious! They also have Bubbies (mochi ice cream from Hawaii) and you can handpick the flavors you want. The baked goods there are also good from what I’ve tasted so far.
One tip: the male «scooper» always serves more than the female «scooper». Sorry, I don’t know their names, yet!

I love mochi ice cream, and I’m a huge fan of Bubbies in Hawaii, so when my sister brought me an assortment of mochi from Jimbo’s, I was ecstatic. Yes, it’s cheaper to pick up a six pack of Mikawaya brand mochi from Trader Joe’s or even to get a box of Bubbies from Whole Foods, but I do like how you can pick and choose the flavors you want. My favorites were the guava, mango, pistachio, and green tea. The lychee flavor was okay.
I wish this place was closer to me or else I’d come all the time! Then again, that would be dangerous, so maybe (*swallows hard*), it’s better this way. I can’t wait to come back and try more flavors!

One of the few places that serves most of the famous Bubbies Ice Cream Mochi flavors. Ever since they closed the main store in Hawai’i (so sad! They have one in Hawaii Kai though), I’ve been craving these.
They also have ice cream from Marianne’s, one of my favorites in the Bay. ¹⁰⁄₂₀ and ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ are my personal favorites: ¹⁰⁄₂₀ is a caramel ice cream with fudge and Oreos, while ⁵⁰⁄₅₀ is a oranges ‘n cream hybrid.
Service is great! A local owned business with some really nice people. Their shave ice is made just like Hawaii shave ice (from the block, not the crusher, so the ice shavings are very fine and melt in your mouth). I have yet to try the hot dogs and bowl, but they look super good!
Overall, a great Japanese/​Hawaii dessert and snack shop that I wish was open later than 9pm, but you can’t have everything in life now can you?:)

Whenever you think of mochi ice cream, you either think of it being served at a Japanese restaurant for dessert, or you think of it coming out of that black and yellow box from any Asian market in San Jose. Well if you even enjoy that type of mochi coming out of the box, and potentially being freezer burned, you will absolutely LOVE the Bubbies «from Hawaii» Mochi Ice Cream here at Jimbo’s! To be quite honest with you, it doesn’t matter where it’s from, it is pretty damn good!

I’ve tried their regular ice cream (Marianne’s), and it’s decent. Nothing out of the ordinary. If my memory serves me correctly, 1 scoop is $ 3.95! That’s slightly higher than Baskin Robbins! Is it as good as Baskin? I’d have to say no. Sorry folks, you nailed it on the mochi, but not on the regular ice cream.
Conclusion:
Great location, service is fast and friendly, and it’s the BEST mochi ice cream in town!

Never did I eat any of those mochis sold in supermarkets. I find it ridiculous and an irony… ice cream covered in sticky rice… it’s insane. Aint touching it and won’t try it.
Geez, I must be insane when I realized I just ordered ice cream mochi at Jimbo’s. I see that its actually known as Bubbies in Hawaii … Now things like that would make me start thinking why the name change… which led me to various conspiracy theories:.
a. Bubbies was part of the mochi protection program that was compromised so they had to think of another name that’s ludicrous yet catchy… like some character in a travelling carnival.
b. Bubbie’s is to Hawaii and Jimbo is to… San Jose?
c. Even though Bubbies was the name he was born into, he felt that there is something inside him that is different, something like coming out of the closet kind of stuff… so he took the name Jimbo and went to SJ cause its where you can taste the rainbow and if you look hard enough you might find a pot of gold-​en mochi.
But whatever the reason maybe, SJ embraces you and your «oh Lord this is so good– mochi and hawaiian shaved ice».
What we had:
Lime and cherry shaved ice — small… so good and highly recommended by the guy at the counter, who knows their stuff.
3 mochis — guava, green tea and passion fruit. Guava FTW! Green tea was on point and passion fruit was an explosion to the taste buds. I finished it.
Love it, love it, love all of it.
Do come and try it out on a hot day… everyone else did.

Ever since I found out about bubbies I’ve been sad to find out they’re only located in Hawaii (somewhere that isn’t on my current to travel list and I have no desire to go – shocker, I know!) But my friend told me about jimbos and how they have bubbies so we made a 40+ minute drive to SJ so I can finally get my hands on these things! I tried mango (my favorite), guava, mint chocolate chip, lychee, and chocolate strawberry. They were all delicious and you can even take it to go with these containers they give you. All I did was freeze them when I got home but I would definitely suggest you to consume them within a few days as the skin on the mochi starts to get hard after awhile.

I don’t like Mochi but holy cow this place makes me want to change my mind.
I tried the guava and mango ones and both were true to their flavors. Mochi was also soft and delicate which I liked. Downside is you have to wait a little bit before you stuff your face lol

BUBBIES MOCHI ICE CREAM !
I love stopping by this place when i’m in Jtown or around the area! It’s a cool place to stop for a little sweet snack! They basically have all of the popular bubbies mochi ice cream flavors you could think of, and aside from that they also have Marianne’s ice cream as well!
you could pick either 3 for 5.95 or 6 for 9.95 ! It’s fun to try different flavors, I really like passion fruit and green tea! guava is cool too!
The «plating» is cute too they place it on this little bamboo plate which is perfect for a foodstagram #potd especially with all the color variations haha
The only downside to these mochi ice cream pieces is that you have to wait a couple minutes before eating… Which if you’re impatient and overly excited to eat it may ruin the experience. But it is well worth the wait ! Cuz that first bite into the chewy outside and creamy center is amazing.
They have other things there like hotdog with japanese toppings and other neat snacks that I have yet to try, but definitely go for the ice cream treats !

The mochi flavors here are rich and flavorful! I loved the guava — it had a very floral taste to it! I also loved the mango — it was probably the softest of them all. But the green tea was also really good! We got the 12 for $ 18 mochi special, so it was about $ 1.50 per mochi!
I think my personal favorites are the mango, guava, green tea, and lychee, but they all tasted so delicious and fresh!
I thought their ice cream was just a little meh by itself — the orange creamsicle was definitely overly sweet but I still liked the green tea! I did think the ice cream sampler (dale & chip) was pretty cute as an idea though! Also — they forgot about my order so I waited around 15 minutes to get the dale and chip sampler. The mochi came out right away though! I had to remind them of the sampler.
So go for the mochi, it’s definitely solid and delicious! Also comes in a pretty big portion.

If you thought ice cream was good, wait til you try all of the different flavor Mochi ice cream at Jimbo’s. It’s a small shop located in Japantown, but this place offers something special since there aren’t many places that serve this many flavors of mochi as well as normal ice cream that you can just scoop into a cone or cup.
My mom and I got the deal, 6 flavors for $ 9.95. We shared the chocolate espresso, chocolate peanut butter, lychee, passion fruit, li hing mango, and strawberry dark chocolate chip. As we bit into each flavor, we were surprised how close the flavor was to the real thing! All of them were great especially the li hing mango and the strawberry dark chocolate chip! I loved the tiny chocolate bits that you could nibble on as the ice cream melted away. So yummy! My only issue with this is that when they serve it to you, it’s like almost rock hard… so take your time taking pics because you should let it defrost and soften up haha!
Overall, cute place if you want to try new flavors of mochi!

I’ve had Jimbo’s bookmarked for the longest time, but could never go because it was so far from me. Luckily, my cousins and I went to Gen for lunch making Jimbo’s more accessible.
This place is located in downtown Japantown for San Jose and it’s a pretty okay size place. Parking is all on the streets and time limited. I can’t remember clearly, but it might be metered as well. Once you step inside, you’ll see everything. There wasn’t much going on when we got here so we got our orders pretty quickly.
One of my cousin’s ordered their shaved ice. I forgot the flavors she got, but everyone seemed to enjoy it so that’s that. I also got 3 of their mochi’s and I thought they would’ve been soft, but they were actually pretty hard. They look cute on the little plate, but the flavors fell flat.
Overall, I’m okay not coming back to be honest with you. There’s better mochi out there and shaved ice is pretty common so I’m sure I’ll be able to find somewhere else for both.

Easily found off 101 in San Jose’s Japan-​town. There is meter parking located on the street.
The interior is small with a few tables for dining in. Every time I been here I did not have to wait long to order and always had no problems getting a table.
I only have tried their mochi ice cream. The mochi here is really good and actually flown in from Bubbies in Oahu. The mochi is frozen when served so you just have a wait a few minutes to defrost. The consistency of the skin/​shell is soft and easy to bit through. No where as thick as the popular store bought brand commonly found at the groceries store. The prices were good and have at least 8 flavors to choose from.
I recommend trying the Guava, Chocolate Peanut Butter, or Li-​Hing Mango mochi flavor.

One of the few places that sell mochi ice cream from Bubbie’s. Another place I know is Jastea, which is right next to Kickin Crab. You can go to the japanese market across the street if you want your typical boxed mochi ice cream with the flavors such as green tea, kona coffee, and red bean. Jimbo’s offers a variety of different mochi flavors, much more variety than at the supermarket. Some of my favorites are chocolate espresso, pistachio, and green tea!
This definitely doesn’t compare to the original Bubbies, but it’ll have to do since the original location in Hawaii, has unfortunately closed down as of a couple months ago. I was lucky enough to have visited this summer and tried a variety of their unique flavors.
If you get the mochi, you gotta wait a little for them to thaw to eat them properly. If you aren’t feeling mochi ice cream, they also serve regular ice cream. I originally wanted to go to Jimbo’s for their chip and dale sampler, but I still haven’t had the chance to try it.
This is a whole lot better than Mochicream. Mochicream sucks even with all the flavors they have to offer.

We were in Japantown for trick or treating with the roommate’s nephew. What was on my mind? I could knock off a bookmark! Knowing the roommate’s sister in law loves ice cream, her friend and I suggested we go to Jimbo’s! It was Saturday, October 31^st around 6pm.

I bookmarked this place to try the mochi ice cream. I’ve had the more common flavors in other brands: Green tea, Strawberry, Mango and Chocolate, so I wanted the try something different. The passion fruit was my favorite. Good flavor without being overly sweet. The guava’s flavor was subtle, but also good. I didn’t really like the lychee as it tasted really strong and artificial to me. They accidentally gave us a Green tea instead of the lychee, so they let us keep it. I didn’t see the monthly flavors or else I probably would have tried one. They had Li hing mango and Pumpkin that day. Make sure to let the mochi melt a little as it’s hard as a rock when they give it to you.
Dale & chip sampler: any 5 flavors — your choice ($ 6.95)

Everyone else shared the sampler. It was mainly two adults and two kids, so this is a good ice cream sampler to share if you want a taste of a couple different flavors. Each come is small though, so if you want a good portion of ice cream, you might want to order a whole sampler for yourself. It does melt fast, so dig in quickly!
Jimbo’s is a nice option to try different flavors of mochi ice cream, but I don’t know if I’d be back just for that. The ice cream on the other had, I probably would. I had a tiny bite of the strawberry and would come back for the Dale & Chip sampler. But I’d order one all for myself!

Is there anywhere else you can buy mochi ice cream around here? From what I believe the answer is no. Aside from the boxed kind at the supermarket. I started writing this with 4 stars then decided that Jimbo’s deserved an extra one for being one of its kind. This place and the mochi’s are often commonly referred to as Bubbie’s! Jimbo’s serves ice cream mochi, Marianne’s ice cream, jumbo dogs (like spam musubi but with a hot dog), and other various goodies. The owner and his workers are all really helpful, patient, and nice!
For those that do not know what mochi ice cream is, it is kind of like a round pouch/​casing of pounded sticky rice with ice cream inside. It tastes more appealing than it sounds! I love that they have interesting flavors like guava! You can mix and match flavors and have to order either 3, 5, or 12
They also have a «chip and dale sampler» which basically is like an ice cream flight with your choice of 5 flavors. Take notice that these cones and scoops are smaller (hence its just a sampler)! I think this is great for a group smaller children because it’s the perfect size for them, which is what I did and decided to take my 3 siblings. I also think it’s great for anyone else when they can’t decide what flavor to get and want a little bit of each! We got to try out the green tea, mango, rainbow sherbet, chocolate chip, and 10 – 20! They were all equally delicious and would recommend any of their ice cream flavors.

As someone who loves dessert, ice cream and pretty circular things, this definitely hit the spot after some Korean food down a few doors! And besides, you’re in Japantown… get some mochi!
I came here around 8 PM on a Saturday evening, and there was a decent crowd already devouring their delicious ice cream outdoors since it was so hot! There are laminated print out of their menus by the front entrance, so grab one and check it out before ordering!
We decided on the 12 pieces of mochi ice cream for $ 17.95. Seriously, I wanted to try everything! So that is what we did-​we tried the 10 standard flavors and the 2 specials-​of-​the-​month flavor. They do have a more extensive list on pink laminated paper if you wanted to be adventurous with your tastebuds!

Pros:
–Quick service! It wasn’t too busy and what we wanted wasn’t anything too fancy. but I’m glad they didn’t stall and gave us our mochi right away!
–Awesome menu! So many different mochi flavors to choose from… and so many other dessert options too! Shaved ice (Banana Crêpe is down the street though), ice cream cones, and even hot menus?!
Cons:
–Meh service. There were two people on staff, and one of them was pretty nonchalant. My brother had said «mint chocolate» instead of «chocolate mint» and he gave us the most disgusting look, followed by «huh?»
–They just give you everything in a bowl and you don’t even know which flavor is which. (Green tea and pistachio? Look like twins to me!)
–Prices are a bit expensive (almost $ 1.50 per mochi) with the 12 mochi deal (they also have trio deals)…but definitely worth trying if you are in the area!
Tips/​Observations:
–Definitely let the mochi ice cream melt a bit before devouring! It tasted a bit like a rock when I tried biting into it.
–Parking is street parking! So be prepared to hunt down a parking spot on the side somewhere (or elsewhere).
Overall, I would come here again if I was in town! But for now, I would still be content with my mochi ice cream from Trader Joe’s.
