AJ’s Moonlight Bakery

It’s really unfortunate that I have to write a negative review because the cake was SOOO adorable… but it tasted horrible! Seriously, don’t judge a cake by its looks…
I threw my sister a baby shower a month ago and her coworker generously offered to get the cake. I can’t comment on the pricing since it was a gift but I’m sure it was NOT cheap (maybe around $ 200) We were all so excited to eat it but once we tasted it, we were all in shock at how bad it was. The cake was dry and dense and falling apart, it tasted like nothing. The filling was also tasteless and inedible. I have never had a cake that bad. The cake was beautiful but I would not recommend this bakery to anyone.
Also if you scroll down, one of the 5 stars review is from the owner herself. Weird…

Amy designed a San Jose Sharks groom’s cake for my wedding day. Not only did it look awesome but it tasted fantastic =) We got the lemon cake with lemon cream and it was absolutely delicious. I had also never tasted fondant as good as hers either. I will definitely come back to Amy whenever I need an awesome cake in the future!

Five freakin stars-​why? They deserve it.
Amy has never let me down. I first met with her last summer to plan a wedding cake. Unfortunately, I was outvoted by my girlfriends on our vendor leaving me SUPER bummed. Amy did go through greats lengths to help me design my wedding cake which I never forgot. Out of all the vendors I had gone to and all of the tastings I had-​this place was the most helpful. While I had an idea of what I wanted, she really helped a lot. She had tons of books for me to look through and great advice. Very patient.
The first chance I had to finally use to AJ’s was for my husband’s 30^th bday. It was a sculpture that reflected an inside joke between us. Amy nailed it! The cake was the highlight of his bday. He even preferred the cake over the PS3 I got him as his gift. The cake was flawless and delicious. Even the guests that did not like fondant ate the cake.
Amy even delivered the cake for us. She was very punctual, too. I would like to note that the cake turned out way better than I could have imagined.
AJ’s Moonlight Bakery was the talk of the whole restaurant last night. I could not ask for a better bakery. My money was well spent.
NOTE: this is a specialty bakery and by appt only. If you are interested in a tasting my assumption is that you look at the website and gather a few flavors you want to try and email or call her so she can have it prepared. The fee for the tasting is applied to your total cost of the cake.

They make awesome looking cake. Taste of the cake is okay. Price makes you go into a seizure. I purchased the cake anyways for my daughter bday but never again unless my name is lil wayne.

I wanted to bring something special to the volunteer potluck after our garden tour, and AJ’s did a fabulous cake that looked exactly like the hand-​painted image all the volunteers sported on their t-​shirts for the event. It was a smash hit at the party. Love love love the poppyseed cake.

First, I found these ladies helpful, personable and full of ideas! Second, they created an *amazing* centerpiece to the party: a babyshower cake that looked too good to eat, and one that tasted too good for me to resist! They conjured up a cake-​er-​ific concoction, both n looks, and taste-​wise! I will be using AJs for future parties as well!

Lovely cake. Couldn’t stop eating it! Would definitely recommend. Can somebody please have a party, order a cake from them and invite me again???

First of all, the pictures on the site are what persuaded me to contact AJ’s HOWEVER there is no picture that can accurately depict how fantastic my cake was when it arrived. I ordered a Thomas the Tank Engine cake from Amy and spent the next month or so torturing her with questions and changes up until a week before my event. I finally had to tell her to cut me off and just make the damn cake I originally requested. Amy was a consummate professional and patiently responded to all of my neurotic email. It probably took her more time to deal with me then actually create my cake; perhaps she bakes that into her margins… The cake was pricey– but people, you get what you pay for and this cake was well worth it.

I wanted to get a unique cake for a co-worker’s retirement lunch and called Amy at AJ’s Moonlight Bakery less than 2 days before I needed it. Amy called shortly after I left my message and before long, we had a very cool retirement cake that everyone loved!
I sent a picture of the design and the end result exceeded our expectations.
Our retiring friend was very grateful for the unique cake and did not want to cut into it until after he had a chance to show his family!

I’m sitting here eating leftover coconut cake from a party, and I cannot stop eating. It has a butter cream frosting, and I thought I HATED butter cream and yet I cannot stop eating their cake.
Excellent texture and moistness. Perfect sweetness level. I’ve had their red velvet cake at my friend’s son’s birthday party as well, and it is better than the Sprinkles Red Velvet cupcake (which is a high compliment as I am also completely addicted to Sprinkles — primarily because of its yummy frosting). The pictures they have on their site of the Mario cake and the Cars cake does not do them justice. The cakes are even more gorgeous in person.
BTW — AJ’s is a specialty bakery store — which caters to weddings or custom designed cakes — do not expect to go in with expectations of getting a fabulous cake for costco prices — they are an elite bakery and maintain their high quality by accepting only a limited number of cake orders each week. They even have a fan page on facebook.
I haven’t written a review for over a year, but I had to go in and write one since I was sitting here inhaling another slice of this coconut cake.

First of all, $ 200 for your child’s B-​day is kinda expensive. But blame it on it being our son’s first B-​day and us being new and excited parents. My wife contacted AJ’s 2 days prior to the day we needed it. Of course, I was nervous (and felt bad) about calling them 2 days before, but they did a great job! We asked them to make a cake looking like my son’s favorite toy and it looks great (see pic)! They made the cake just from looking at online photos of the toy. Lastly, the cake tasted pretty good. In all, the cake totally made our day and looked great in our son’s B-​day pics!

I scheduled a consultation to meet w/​amy about a bday cake for my daughters bday. Upon arriving she seemed very unfriendly and unwelcoming. There was no samples, not even any examples or pictures… I was sad because her cakes looked awesome and i was excited to place my order. However after our brief meeting (like 10 minutes or less) I decided not to spend over $ 200 on a cake i couldn’t even taste prior. Sorry, I guess I had high expectations.

We ordered our daughter’s baptism cake from Amy @ Aj’s Moonlight Bakery. Their prices are very reasonable and the cakes are yummy. We had three different flavors: White chocolate, Chocolate and Red Velvet. One guest said the White Chocolate cake w/​White Chocolate Buttercream was «to die for». The cake also turned out just as we had planned, except for one detail which Amy was very quick and willing to make right. We would definitely recommend Amy to anyone who is looking to order a custom cake at a reasonable price!
