Cuevas Lumber & Fence

When sections of my fence came down in the last storm, Cuevas Fencing was both responsive and helpful. Unlike other fencing companies that just wanted to replace the entire length at high cost, Fidel gave me three options ranging from replacement to fixing posts/​sections as needed. All options were competitively priced, and the final workmanship is excellent. Special shout out to Adriana in the office who was a gem to work with!

These guys know how to make a beautiful fence! I got a quote rapidly and scheduled the work to be done, the old fence went down and the new one went up in record time! They built small decks in front of my sliding glass doors, their craftsmanship was beautiful. The big item though is the front gates on either side of my house! They specially designed and had made a metal framed wood laden automatic gate as well as a craftsmen side gate with small pergola. These two items were specially finished and varnished and completely improved the curb appeal of my house. Very happy with their work and would definitely recommend them to friends and hire them for any additional wood work in the future.

We had Cuevas install a 6ft plus piano key fence almost all the way around. They finished it up in three days and we love it. They were responsive to our last minute changes and provided quotes in a timely manner. The fence looks great, as does our new gate to go with it. Fidel is a good guy and will make it right if it needs fixing. I’d recommend them again.

Do not use this company!!! They did part of our fence before and did a good job. So we wanted to use them again to replace another side which we share with a neighbor.
I scheduled an appointment for an estimate and they did not show up. I called them and they said it was not in their system. So I rescheduled for the following week. Then they did not show up again!!! We called them and again the appointment is not in their system. I left work early two times for this. I spoke to Adrianna who booked these and she was no help at all. Very unprofessional. How does a company like this stay in business?
Again, do not use this company unless you want to waste your time!!!

Waited a week to get an appointment. Showed up 30 minutes late for an estimate. It’s been nearly two weeks and no estimate yet. Was told it would take them another 6 – 8 weeks to schedule the project because they’re so busy. So I’m going to shell out thousands of dollars for a fence and gate but have to wait months for it? You would think I asked them to build me a spaceship. There are plenty of affordable quality fence companies out there that are quick, responsive and don’t waste your time. When the economy is good, service sucks.

My fence was installed in one day — 4 years ago. My issue — The posts of my two-​door gate are twisting. Perhaps it’s due to the opening and closing of the gate over time. My original wooden gate posts never showed any such shifting/​movement and opened much easier too.

I found them extremely nice, and reliable. The were very respectful of all property and plants. Hard workers and a nice job of clean up. Their prices are very competitive and the fence is great.

Wow, a contractor that showed up on time for the estimate, quickly provided a competitive written estimate, showed up on time and as scheduled to perform the work and completed our project as scheduled.
Cuevas built an arbor for us and did an outstanding job in every way. On time, quality craftsmanship, left the work area clean and at a competitive price.
I highly recommend!

They just finished our fence and did a great job! There showed up right on time (actually a few minutes early) were very polite, left no mess behind and did a beautiful job! Will use them again for sure!

Although the estimate was scheduled 3 weeks out, they got me in on a cancellation and scheduled the job within one week. Fidel Cuevas is wonderful: really a good listener and had lots of suggestions as to how to quote the driveway gate (metal frame vs wood only.) The proposal showed up when promised in two days with the various options.
Fence is of high quality with above-​soil sloped-​down concrete footings.
Driveway gate was a bit more drama as the workers disappeared the 2^nd day. I finally called at 2pm and they said they were building the metal frame. Then we had some issues with the specs as the vinyl flashing and an extra hole was drilled into my house. Fidel came out and resolved everything and made me feel like all my issues were totally taken care of, which they were. I am very happy with the final product.
I have found that these fencing jobs really rise and fall on the skills of the estimator as they are really the «boss» of the project and the person to whom the foreman turns if there is a question. It also helps if there is a live body answering the phone who can coordinate messages and questions, in this case «Hugh» who was courteous and prompt.

We just had Cuevas do a custom 13′ folding gate with wheels and a custom fence enclosure around our pool equipment and the whole process was painless and efficient. Hugh in the office was very responsive and the quote was created the next day. The job was built around our requirements and adjusted when we need to make a change.
The price was very competitive and the installation was very professional, good quality fit and function and the installers communicated progress very well. My only recommendation would be for Cuevas to call or email the day before to confirm the project start date and time for 5 star service.
The whole project was completed in a single day and we inspected the quality of the job before signing off on final invoice. Great experience!

The surprising thing is that we have used them before and they were great. So we called them for another project to get a quote on a redwood fence and decking. They came, they measured, and they said they would email a quote that evening.
Then nothing. I called and left a message a week later and didn’t get a response. I left a second message and no response. Finally I called and got someone who said Fidel Cuevas was busy and would work on our quote the next day. Since I have not heard from them even after that, I gave up and have gone with another contractor.

I hired the company to replace a fence that fell during a storm last year. They showed up on time and before you know it the job was done.
The only issue I had was one of the gates hardware wasn’t installed properly and the latch wouldn’t close. I called them several times to check it out. Never heard back for over a month so I had to pay my handyman fix it. A few weeks later I finally heard back from Hugh who said he would send Kevin out to look it over. I said yes, just in case my guy fixed it wrong. Kevin showed up and said that it looked fine and went on his way. Other than that, so far so good.
I would love to give them 4 stars but I wasn’t impressed with the follow through.

We got quotes from the major fence contractors in the area. Cuevas’ estimate was competitive and they also accommodated our special requests (e.g. steel posts). We got five neighbors together for a massive fence replacement.
There were negative comments on Kevin’s responsiveness. This is because Cuevas has a lot of business. Reputable shops are busy… If you are patient, I believe you will be happy hiring their services.
Overall, we were pleased with the workmanship and price of Cuevas Lumber & Fence.

My experience was similar to many of the less than stellar reviews. We had Kevin at Cuevas come out for an estimate on fencing for our home. The original appointment was scheduled three weeks out because they are so swamped with business. I was willing to wait.
A quote came via email two days after our initial appointment. We were ready to schedule the work. In addition we asked for a quote on some additional fence work in our backyard. Hugh at the Cuevas office proposed a date during the week of July 4^th. Because we were going to be on vacation I asked that we push it out. I never heard back from him so I followed up with a phone call and two emails. Once again, when I did hear back, I was told that it was because they were so busy that I didn’t hear back from them sooner.
At the same time that I was trying to schedule the work I asked for a quote for some additional work. When I received the quote, this time just an email, not on a form, from Hugh it was not connected to our original quote and included minimum charges, etc. because the job was so small. I emailed him back to connect the dots. He sent me one more email about possibly doing the work the week of July 25^th. I replied and never heard back from them again. I called the office two times, sent three emails and nothing.
I guess Cuevas is so busy that they can walk away from $ 4,000 – a small job in the fencing world I guess. Either that or the office is so unorganized that they can’t keep business straight. Either way, it worked out for us. We are getting our fences done for 30% less and we’ve had great service so far.
Unilocalers, believe the low-​star ratings on this one. I wish I had!

Got fence bids from 4 companies. Cuevas couldn’t even get out to give me a bid for weeks after the other companies. Sorry cuevas you lost business by not being able to give a bid for 3 weeks.

We got an estimate from Cuevas a few months back and thought it was a fair price, so I called them back to have another portion of my yard estimated as well. Because my first interaction had gone well, I was willing to wait the 3 weeks it would take to get another appt.
Today was the day of my appt and my husband was coming home from work to meet with KEVIN. Very early this morning he had changed the appt from 11am to 11:30am and was told «no problem». Kevin called me at 11:32am with a HORRIBLE attitude, complaining how behind he was and didn’t have time for this today. I told him it was not me he would be meeting with, but my husband. At that, he continued to grumble that his time was just as important as mine. Again, it was 11:32…had we committed a serious disservice to someone we were trying to give business to?
As he continued to treat me as if he’d been waiting hours, I told him that if he couldn’t wait a few minutes then he should leave and we’d get another company. I don’t think the words even made it out of my mouth before he hung up on me. Who does this? My husband rolled into the driveway at 11:34am.
What a shame, this would have been a job in excess of $ 10K. I guess they are doing so well they can give the proverbial finger to potential customers.
What makes me truly angry, and caused me to write this review, is that I HIGHLY doubt KEVIN would have spoken to my husband in the same manner.
In todays day and age where so many Americans are struggling to make ends meet, I strongly encourage you to take your business elsewhere. This type of behavior should never be rewarded. Read the other reviews specific to KEVIN for comparison.

Wow, the owner of this company just hung up on me twice. By reading other reviews, Kevin has done this before. After the first time, I called back and he said he didn’t hang up, then stated that I was just calling him back to «bust his b*lls. I think not. I was only asking him to charge me the same price as I was quoted in November 2012. It took a while to get the neighbors on board and we wanted to wait until the spring. Talking for a short time and trying to negotiate sent this guy into an angry state and the solution was to hang up.
Bottom line is if Kevin wants to raise the prices, all well and good, however there is no cause to be rude. It’s certainly not good for business as not only will he not get positive feedback and more business, but negative feedback and less business. BTW, I called my neighbor, and she told me that her husband had trouble with this company also.

We called for an estimate about two months ago. They came and measures but never called us. No phone call, no email.
If this is the way they run the buisness… I want no part of it.

This is the second time we have used Cuevas. The first was a tricky job, a 3 foot concrete wall with a 7 foot white vinyl fence on TOP of it and a 10 foot vinyl gate. It IS hard to find folks that do vinyl fence and gate work. They did an excellent job, on time, and at reasonable cost.
The second time was for a full demolition of our 30 year old wood deck, stairs, and gate, and replace it with fiberon (like trex), and add a seating area. I got 4 bids, ranging from $ 40K to $ 18K. There’s was the most reasonable, and included more fiberon than the other bids. The estimated time was 10 days, and it took 16, but it was SO worth them taking their time and doing it right. These guys are into making all the little details right, and I LOVE that!
They finished today, the two workers we had, Eduardo & Enrique were AWESOME! I had to treat them both to a shot of Tequila and a tip each, for the excellent job they did. I even made changes, had questions, and they answered everything, and helped me with the design, and figured out how to make all the changes look great.
I can’t thank Cuevas enough for their timely, excellent, and affordable work, and their workers were friendly and on time!
I would recommend them to EVERYONE!
