I would give this company 0 stars if I could. I asked them if they can come to our house in Saratoga and they said yes. Once they learned we live in «the Mountains» as they call it they refused to come because «it is too hard to find houses» up there. They did not even give me a chance to give directions, which are very straight forward and about 5 minutes from downtown Saratoga. Awful customer service.

My first review on Unilocal.Unfortunately it’s a negative one. My coworker recommended them and I also saw the great reviews on Unilocal.I sent a message from the website and was impressed by the quick response from Don who informed me that they were taking appointments on Nov 27. We confirmed through email that he would come between 8:30 — 9:30am that day. I waited around until 10:30am. NO CALL, no email. I sent another email as well as a voicemail. Still no response. When I called the number the message noted that they were not taking any more service calls, which is fine for those who haven’t made an appointment but it was EXTREMELY unprofessional not to inform me they were cancelling.

I really like these guys. They’re super responsive and likable, and have a few times fit me into their busy schedule at a moments notice, for that I give them two stars instead of one. However, I’ve had multiple problems with my furnace they’ve been unable to fix (will only run with front cover removed) and, worse, my two air conditioning units that keep breaking down. Now these units are made by freus (I hugely regret buying them) and are not a brand that they are used to working on (in their defense), but each time they’ve tried to fix them they’ve given up because they are unfamiliar to them. I am not an expert or electrician or anything and I’ve managed to replace floats, water pumps, and capacitors on these things myself. Seems to me a trained technician should be able to figure these things out in a jiffy — they don’t seem that complicated at all to me.
Note that they did NOT install this system, so I get that it’s weird and most probably sucks, but it’s what I have and I need professional help to get it running again which, at the end of the day, cobalt could not help me with.

No complains from me! They aren’t here to scam you at all… They gave me honest opinions on what needs to be done and how they will fix it for you. On time, friendly, respectful, and a cheerful father son duo… i highly recommend to whoever that needs a fix on their ac or heating system.

Recently my apartment had water damage due to AC drainage problem. Chris and Don came in promptly to remove the old air handler, After the damage repair they installed the new handler and furnace on time. They also added the drain cleanout and fixed the broken 220V conduit. I am very impressed with their proficiency and professionalism. Highly recommended!

Don and Chris are fantastic! They are very approachable, kind and friendly!
Pros:
1. They pick up the phone right away, no voicemail means no waiting
2. They gave me an appointment the next day
3. They were on time, arrived at the beginning of their window
3. They know what is wrong with my unit when I told them what is not working
4. They fixed the unit for me within an hour
5. Their price is reasonable.
6. They don’t sell you stuff that you don’t need. I asked them whether the unit needs to be serviced each year, they said no! That’s honest business people.
Cons:
There is nothing to write about!!! I would refer them anytime! They will get a call back from me if I need another heating and cooling job done.
BTW, I disagree with the person giving them a one star. The $ 85 (or whatever the fee is now) is the service call fee. All technicians charge a fee for the service call no matter if they do a job for you or not. They went out to your place twice, and even if you are not satisfied with what they do, they still need to charge a service fee. Give a break to the technicians. You cannot ask the service fee back as a refund! It is their gas money! Please be fair.

This is my second review concerning my dealings with Colbalt Heating & Cooling.
BOTH times have been very good, both when the weather was very hot. The first time they recahrged the system and all was good. The second time I called them at 8:30 a.m., they came at 11 a.m., it turned out I needed a capacitor, they were finished in 20 minutes and again all is good.
This is a good company, they offer that all important thing, good customer service, and do the job quickly and correctly the first time. We recommend Colbalt Heating & Cooling.

I cannot be more glad and relieve in choosing this great, professional team of father and son to inspect and repair my AC. The price is fairly reasonable. I have the utmost respect for these guys for willing to listen to my questions and patiently answer them. They provide some good knowledge on the condition of AC. Cobalt Heating & Cooling is absolutely amazing! They do fantastic work and their follow-​up and customer service are even more phenomenal! It was an absolute pleasure to work with them. I wish there was an option to give them 10 stars as I will definitely recommend them to everyone I know.

These guys are straight awesome! I had someone from Craigslist come by and look at our AC unit and they told us it was going to be $ 800 but they recommended to change the whole unit. A $ 2000-​$ 3000 job.
I was referred to Cobalt by a recent customer after wanting a 2^nd opinion and asking around. I just wanted to make sure because something didn’t seem right and it was a lot of money. Cobalt came, and fixed the problem in about 30 minutes for $ 170! Professional, honest, straight to the point.
They have a loyal customer now from here on out and I’ll definitely refer them to anyone I run across who needs someone. Call them, they’re what you’re looking for!

We had less air flowing in our bedrooms. We called Cobalt based on recommendation from my realtor. They came and gave us an estimate of $ 500 to fix and took $ 85 for giving an estimate and told us that they will apply this as credit if we hired them to fix it. When I called them to hire, Don told me they would put me on the waiting list and would give me a call when their current job finished. I waited a month but they never called back. I called and scheduled appointment. They came and tried to fix. It improved but did not fully fix it. They asked for $ 200 more to fully fix it. Given that they had previously looked at the job, this did not seem right to me. But given the heat wave, and how busy everyone is running, I agreed.
Don demanded the money for the work done, which I refused since job was not fully done. Don was really rude in his demeanor. He is a big man, and I felt a bit scared.
They came again after requisite parts and tried to fix it. However, it only became worse. I wanted them to undo the last part, but Don went ahead and undid everything. While Chris was up the attic and undoing, I even told Don that I am willing to pay for the last time’s work, and live with the way it was, but Don did not want to talk to Chris.
This means, after spending $ 85 and taking time-​off from work on two separate days, waiting for more than a month for them to fix it, we are back to where we were. I asked them to return the $ 85, which they refused.
I can understand things turning out more complex than they imagined but not the rudeness. Given all the great reviews here, I can only speculate that they are too busy to care about customer service anymore.

Chris and Don, just repaired my house heater. They came right away the same day., I called several others but told to have to wait a few days. Charged very reasonable, best among the ones I called. The quickly find the problem was the board, went away and bought the board and came back to install it without extra charge. Super friendly. I will call them in the future. Highly recommended.

Called Cobalt again on Friday evening. Arrived ahead of time on Saturday and had everything sorted in 20 minutes. Great service, reasonably priced. Great attitude, great guys. They even let me used their hammer when I could not find mine on a separate project I was working on. «Leave it by porch and we’ll pick it up tomorrow» he said. This father and son business provide the best service in the Bay Area. I would highly recommend this business to anyone with heating or cooling issues.

Have you ever seen a business on here that has a long record of five star reviews and you wonder in the back of your mind if they are really all valid? Well, where this business is concerned, they are. This father/​son combo are one of the best vendors I’ve ever had the pleasure of dealing with.
I’m working on a very extensive basement project and I needed to replace the main beam which meant that I had to replace my heater’s venting because it passed under the old beam. This meant that the duct had to be re-​routed and brought up through the house and out the roof.
That involved timing so I wasn’t without heat for too long and through minimal coordination and solid communication, the job began on the day it was stated, the estimate and the final price were spot on and the work was done in exemplary fashion. Not only that but they also took into account that if they didn’t need to put in a new penetration in the roof, the better off I’d be and that’s exactly what they did. They routed it to an existing envelope.
That’s the work side of it. The other side of it is the attitude they have and the way they treat you. They listened to exactly what I wanted, completely treated me with all due respect and were cheerful the entire time. Most of the HVACs I called wouldn’t bother even coming out opting instead to have me send them pictures which is a rather lame way to do business for something like this but these guys would have no part of that even when I told them I could do that. They came out, had the estimate in a couple of days. I have to say too that their price beat all others. All in all, a great experience and it really helped put to rest this issue which I wasn’t looking forward to dealing with.

Cobalt is absolutely the best. The compressor for the AC was failing. They tried charging the unit but to no avail. The replacement is inexpensive and installation was quick. Cobalt is fast and professional. No messing around.

My motor dampers on my HVAC unit got burned out and not working. I tried to call about 10 different contractors and cobalt heating & cooling offered the best price. Also, when they came as promised for the first time, they diagnosed the issue within 10 mins. Then within 2 days they came and fixed the issues. Best part is they did not charge me for labor when they came to fix the motor dampers, while rest of the companies said they will charge me another 1 hr when they come and fix the issue.
Also, almost every other contractor in the bay area that I called did not have time for the next 2 to 3 weeks to come and do the repair. These guys are awesome.
They know exactly what they are doing, they gave me tips on how to maintain the motor dampers in the future, they voluntarily tried to fix another damper issue in my attic.
Overall, I highly recommend these guys and will refer to anyone in the bay area.

These guys are great. The open early and answer the phone whenever I’ve called. They were able to come out same day (within a few hours, and earlier than promised), and the price was very very fair. I had a follow up concern the next day and hey again came right out in a few hours, no extra charge. They didn’t try to rip me off, which itself is a huge relief, and hey over delivered on timing. Five stars for sure and I will call them next time I have a problem.

I would highly recommend them!
With the warm weather, we had called a few A/​C companies to take a look at our system. After two weeks and five calls (with no responses) to another company, we figured that all of the A/​C folks would be scheduling several weeks out.
After another warm night in the house, I called Cobalt. Don and Chris were at the house within two hours. Chris spent a few minutes under the house, then in the attic. He checked all the ducts and was able to find some minor issues, but nothing major. Don went through the heating and blowing components and verified that everything there was in good working order.
They then took some measurements and made some recommendations. The first was to change out our main air filter. I always thought that a better air filter caught more particulates. It turns out, it also restricts the air flow through the house. Don explained that by buying a cheaper air filter, we would get better air flow and better cooling while putting less pressure on the system.
Chris then checked the coolant on the A/​C unit and explained to me how the temperature exchange worked on the unit. When we started filling the unit, the A/​C was putting air into the house that was in the seventies, and taking air out that was in the 80s. Three pounds of coolant later, and the air going in was in the 30s and the air coming out in the 90s! When we walked into the house, my wife was complaining about how cold it was inside. Mission Accomplished!
I felt that for the thoroughness and time spent, the amount they charged was very reasonable. I will definitely call on Cobalt again!

Wow, these guys are fantastic!
I called Cobalt when my AC failed during the first heat wave of the year. Another HVAC repair service gave me their first available appointment– 6 days out. Cobalt came over and fixed my problem within three hours.
The guys were super nice, and the charge was $ 100, including parts. It doesn’t really get any better.
