Flanders Heat & Air Systems

Be careful! I had these guys come out and they first quoted me $ 650 when the tech was here. Then an email came from the owner who increased it to $ 890 for a TXV valve to be replaced. The part is less than $ 100 and it is typically a 1 – 2 hour job. You can do the math.
I had another company come out that would do it for $ 230. While this company was out, they said the valve was installed incorrectly and was most likely the issue. (Appears the junior tech from flanders didn’t even care to check that).

We’ve used Flanders to service our furnace and air conditioner over the years. Had a problem with our AC, called, and Matt was there the very next day (just before a heat wave). On time, courteous, and explained everything to help us out. He diagnosed and fixed the problem right away. We are VERY happy with Flanders Heat & Air!

We are in the middle of the worst heatwave in recent history. As luck would have it my AC does not blow cold air. Every AC contractor in the county is booked out for the next 10 days. But «Marge» at Flanders created a new later time slot to get me service at the end of the day tomorrow… now that is service… amazing…thank you!!! It is so nice to have AC again!!!

Flanders is a company that I would recommend to anyone with ac problems. First and foremost, my insurance company recommended another ac company, they never called or answered my messages. Flanders heat and air called me back within 15 minutes. Very professional and understood that at 102 degrees that day, they could not get here until the next day. No problem, I told Micheal, will stay cool as we can. Was told Matt would be here between 9am and 11am next day. Wow. He showed up even 5 minutes early. Now I like that. Very courtesy, asked a few questions and with in 15 minutes or less my ac was back on. He explainwd to me the exact problem, what he replaced and the cold feels so good. Working like a champ. I woUld, really would recommend Flanders heat and air to everyone I know. Some people want things done right then and now. Sometimes we just have to be patience and it will get done. UPDATE: Just received a call from the owner. Was hoping he would listen and take responsibility for their lack of service. Instead he deflected blame, told me my AC unit was old and should be replaced, and then tried to place blame on the insurance company. When I tried to explain that the insurance was willing to to this, he talked over me, and then HUNG UP on me. THE WORST COMPANY EVER! THE ONLY THING THEY CARE ABOUT IS MONEY! My AC repair was not going to yield a large payout for them so they dumped the job and said they could not help me!
This was the WORST company I have dealt with! If there could be negative stars I would give the that! They came out to fix one of our air conditioners and said they needed to order the part. We were left on a 3 day weekend with no air conditioner when it was over 100 degrees. Then they did not want to search for the part and told us they could NOT repair it and left us with a broken air conditioner in a heat wave. They would not have the common decency to come out and put the air conditioner back in a semi working order. I am beyond disgusted with this company and would not use them ever. They took our money and will not refund it back since they were unable to fix the problem!

Flanders restored my faith in service technicians. Unlike a previous company, which seemed only interested in selling me a new system, Flanders was willing to thoroughly troubleshoot our floor heater even when it wasn’t displaying all the symptoms that were causing us problems. I got the sense that they took pride in their work and genuinely cared about their customers.

Flanders came out to put in our new Heater in our Union City Mobile home. It was thru our home warranty.

We called Flanders because we needed a common wire connected to our Nest thermostat. Bret, the owner, came out personally and was able to find the wire in the wall and connect it. He also found that our heating unit had a cracked combustion chamber, which is a safety issue. They gave us a competitive quote on the replacement, arrived on time, and did a high quality job with the heater install. They installed an extra base at no charge so that the heater was easier to access. Took off one star because they were swamped with business and their responsiveness was slower than I expected. We are very happy with the work they did, and would recommend them.

Flanders was pretty much trying to quote me to replace my A/​C unit before they even came and checked it out. They came within 2 days of my call, made a couple adjustments and left saying that my unit will most likely have to be replaced. He didn’t even stay to see if my A/​C unit was still leaking. I left 2 messages asking them to come back and check it again, no response. After a week of waiting I finally got a response back through email saying they were extremely busy and haven’t even checked their messages. I asked if my payment amount could be lowered since my A/​C was not fixed, I was told they would take a look at it and revise the payment quote. When I finally received the quote a few weeks later it was not lowered at all, they charged me for the full amount of $ 230. So I basically wasted $ 230 and still have an A/​C that was not fixed. I am definitely going to get a quote from a different company. I will never contact this company for anything again, very disorganized and NOT HELPFUL :(

They were professional, courtious, punctual and very fair in their pricing. They also took the times to educate me on what the issue was and how the replacement parts would function with the rest of the house’s heating system. I will be contacting them again soon, as I may be in need of an AC system!

Flanders was assigned by my home warranty company for an AC issue. Setting up my appointment window was easy. The technician showed up early, was very thorough and took the time to really explain what the issue was in non-​technical easy to understand terms and how best to resolve it. He also did some extra work pro bono to seal a vent for me. I was very happy with the service and would highly recommend Flanders!

A couple weeks ago, Flanders installed a new furnace and AC unit. I could not be happier with the results! I had 3 bids prior to making the decision and I chose Flanders not because they were the lowest (which they were), but because Bret was a real person not a salesman. Bret arrived on time, on a Saturday, and on short notice for the consultation. Bret took his time and he listened to the concerns that I had about noise and getting air to the addition part of our house. Bret inspected the house prior to making any promises, and he addressed each concern with a solution. One of the other companies I spoke with immediately, upon entering my house, told me how I could finance the installation before they even inspected anything. Bret’s estimate was sent back to me within two days and broken down so I could choose the options that I wanted. When it came to install day the entire crew was on time. They took a lot of care when going in and out of my house, much more than I thought was necessary. Bret is part of the crew which makes a difference to me. I like the fact that the person I discussed all my options and concerns with was there for about 90% of the install. Bret and his crew were very polite and tolerated my curiosity and wanting to help. I think they even came up with a few things for me to make decisions on just so I could be included. When the crew was finished, my house was very clean and the end results are everything I wanted — quiet unit, air going to all parts of the house, and a clean install.

Flanders installed a Fujitsu ductless mini-​split system in our home; they solved some installation challenges that other companies thought were impossible to overcome. They were priced very competitively too, I got 3 – 4 bids on this project and Flanders was the lowest but also the most responsive to questions, and when it came time to schedule the service, they were very quick to get the job done.
I’ve also used them for basic furnace tune-​up (through Angie’s List) and would recommend them for that too. Highly recommended.

Brett, Marge and the Flanders team did a great job! I picked this company because of their competitive bid on the job and I was not disappointed! Friendly staff, very knowledgeable and courteous, and didn’t mind that I was a little chatty and had some questions. I will definitely use Flanders for future work.

After reading many Unilocal reviews and interviewing almost a dozen of HVAC contractors for installing a new furnace and air conditioner for my home, I came in contact with Bret from Flanders Heat & Air. Within a few minutes, I was impressed with his knowledge, professionalism, politeness, and genuine recommendations unlike other contractors who lacked something or the other.
In his first visit, he went into my attic and not only inspected everything very thoroughly, but also fixed a couple of ducts that were leaking. Within a few hours of his visit, he sent me a detailed quote. He quoted very reasonable price and spelled out every single detail of the job including exact model numbers of the equipment.
Bret happily made some additional changes to the quote on my request and we agreed to start the work. On the day of the installation, he arrived on time with his crew and made sure that his crew understood exactly what was promised to me. The installers were very professional, accommodating and curtsies at all times and completed the work on time. I didn’t have to pay them a dime until the installation was fully complete to my satisfaction. Bret also looked at my water heater and replaced a pipe that was not up to the code at no cost to me. A few days after the installation, Bret scheduled an inspection with the City of San Jose and everything checked out and I was given a copy of the permit.
Working with Bret and his crew was a very pleasant experience and I wish I could give him more than five stars. I am extremely happy with Flanders Heat & Air and highly recommend anyone reading this review to give an opportunity to Flanders before you finalize your contractor. Believe me you will be happy that you did talk to Flanders.

Our AC upstairs stopped cooling last week and I called Flander’s based on a neighbor’s recommendation and Unilocal reviews. Matt, their technician, came out and initially said our capacitor needed to be replaced and would be a few hundred dollars. He came back a few minutes later and said it was actually the compressor and that it’s cheaper to replace the entire AC unit rather than take it apart to replace the compressor. Matt went on and on about how he was hoping it was just the capacitor and how, being Christian, he couldn’t work for his previous company because of the lack of ethics. He said he would get the owner to email me a quote (ball parked that it would be several thousand dollars) and said he would replace the old capacitor in our unit.
I wanted a second opinion because of the high ticket price. I called another reference and he came out. Gerold showed me our capacitor was missing. This usually happens when the company doesn’t want you to get secondary bids. There was nothing he could do without the part because it had the part numbers on it.
Luckily, Gerold of Gerold’s Appliance Service called me back today and said he talked to other techs and was able to locate the part. He came in, replaced the capacitor, and what do you know? AC works like a charm again!
These guys are crooks! Seriously, trying to upsell me on the entire unit when it was just a capacitor issue? SHAME ON YOU! Lesson to everyone – make sure you get multiple quotes and stay the heck away from Flander’s!

It was during a hot spell in June and my 91 year old’s system just stopped working. My husband and I were out of town but we called Flanders and they made it out there to take care of my Mom’s system… pronto! Great service, can’t say enough good things! Thank you!

We were initially referred to Flanders Heat and Air Systems through our home warranty. I checked on Unilocal and was very pleased to see their high rating. The first visit involved repairs to the air conditioner. The system was carefully checked and initial repairs made and explained. As we were led to expect, further work was soon required. That too was well done with alternatives discussed. Now that the season has changed, we’re dealing with the heating system. The furnace blower was running constantly. We called again, and it was repaired the same day. Both the technician and office staff have always been helpful. I will certainly call Flanders any time we need HVAC service.

I used this company to install an A/​C unit. The installation was below standarts. I had problems with leakage. It took them 6 visits to find out that the panel was broken
last year. This year when i tried to use the A/​C it did not work. They came 2 times .
Charged me for 2 visits $ 580. 00, replaced the «freon» and the very next day there was no A/​C. They told me it will be another 450.00 to diagnose the problem. They came after several days and tried to diagnose the problem which takes a day. They
disconnected my heater in the meantime. I called the owner, Brat Flanders, who was rather rude and told me he will call me when he comes back since he was out of towm .
I was left with no alternative but to use a different company. They were very prompt, polite and professional They hooked up back my disconnected heater and
installed properly my A/​C with a new coil that was broken when the Flanders technicians were removing and replacing the panel that colects the moisture. I definitely will not recommend this company. They are rude, their technicians are less than qualified, do not come when needed, and charge a lot for not solving the problem.
Do not use this company

We recently used Flanders to install a new HVAC system in our home (replace a very old furnace, new ductwork, add AC). They provided the best bid out of two, and their service was excellent. The crew was punctual, professional, and we are very happy with the work that they did. We’ve been using the system for about two months now (both heat and AC) and it works extremely well.
My experience was also different from the reviewers that had issue with follow-​up, Brett showed up early to start the project and do the initial walk through and was excellent about following up through all stages of the project. The bid they provided included handling the city permit, and their technician was there in person to accompany the inspector.
All in all a great experience at a great price, and I would definitely use them again.
