History
Established in 1961.
California Karate Academy (CKA) is not only the oldest karate school in Silicon Valley but one of the oldest in the entire country. Founded by San Jose native, Jim Mather, it has hosted events that featured then unknowns Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris and a veritable Who’s-Who in the martial arts. Many CKA students have won state and national titles and represented the USA in official international competition. In 1990, CKA was designated a National Training Center for the official USA Karate Team and still retains that title.
