Keith and Ena are very welcoming, their place had the charm and quality service of a time & place long gone by. Enjoyed the food, good conversation, and classic movies. Will have to try one of the daily specials next time, thanks Bread Box!

Amazing place! CASHONLY! I highly recommend Bread Box for a quick delicious sandwich. Spent an hour here waiting for my car’s oil change. Customer service was off the charts! Very friendly staff, makes you welcome and feel at home. I had the turkey avocado sandwich on a roll… yum! The roll was incredibly soft & fluffy. I also enjoyed watching old time movies while eating my lunch :)

Hidden and tucked in an industrial part of San Jose’s Business Park you will find pleasantly surprised a pretty sizable sandwich shop. You will feel welcomed the moment you walk in and see Ena and Keith smiling from behind the counter and ready to customize your order. The shop has been around since 1995 and had been one of the original standing shops that brought lines out the door for their cheese steak sandwiches which is a local favorite and the special on Wednesdays. I have not had the chance to try it yet but will update my post during my next visit. I had their yummy and meaty Pastrami sandwich(filled with pastrami, provolone, sliced tomatoes, lettuce, red onion, mustard & mayo on sourdough). This sandwich is available daily and the one shown in the picture is half of a large. Great for when you’re in the area and since it’s not located in the heart of town, you can be sure that it will be fresh to order. For the best experience, check out their daily lunch specials. Notes: Open from Mon-Fri 9 am to 5 pm. Ample parking is available. Great pricing on lunch specials. Specials run from 10 am to 1:30pm.

Tucked away amidst crumbling industrial San Jose, Ena’s Bread Box is a fantastic find for a great sandwich that fits a bargain budget. After being disappointed by the weird, sad and overly priced veggie sammies sold at Panera, I was on the hunt for a solid deli near my new job and was fortunately referred to Bread Box. They have standard combinations, but they are done well. The avocado and cheese that is my staple: $ 4.30 for a «small» sandwich(it’s not small) on super fresh bread with plenty of cheese, veg and half of a deliciously ripe avocado. I tried the homemade potato salad, a huge scoop for $ 1.30, and found it slightly tangy and well-dressed, not overly doused with mayonnaise, flavored with bits of pickle and roasted red pepper. Very nice. My coworker had the turkey and avocado and scarfed it down in about four minutes emitting telling grunts of satisfaction. I would like to recommend the daily specials because they look and smell fresh and fantastic, but being vegetarian, they are off limits to me, unfortunately. If Ena had a meatless meal once a week, I’d be adding a fifth star to my rating for this little gem of a deli. If you’re looking for a good, classic sandwich in a clean, unpretentious environment with friendly service, stop by and say hi to Ena and Keith. Bread Box has survived for fifteen years off the beaten path; if they’re still kicking in this economy, obviously they’re doing something extremely right.

Let me paint you a picture… You’re driving the streets of San Jose’s Industrial Business Park, taking pictures of it’s old, dilapidated buildings. The desolate landscape of the commercial wasteland was enough to bring a tear to my eye. I thought that it was the end. I gave into the depression, the pain of a city consumed by evil and corruption was too much for my young, fragile mind to comprehend. My companion and I began to weep, fearing that the metropolis devoid of hope had finally succumbed to the vile nature of humanity. Then, like an oasis in the desert, it appeared. A beacon of hope in a sprawling terrain otherwise wrought with malfeasance. «The Bread Box». A name so simple, a name so pure, it brought a tear to my tired eye. However, unlike the tears which we shed in the car, my comrade and I were weeping tears of joy. «Sandwiches, Beer, Wine & Satellite TV»? These were things that reminded us of a life before we were faced with this harsh reality. A society so encompassed by filth that it had become terminally ill. Memories of a better life flashed before our eyes. A life of running in fields of blooming daisies, hearing a child laugh… the Bread Box had given us these things before we had even stepped through the door. My comrade and I exited our conveyance, and took our first steps on a journey we knew that we would never forget. As we stepped over the threshold, we were greeted immediately by a gas barbecue… perhaps a hint of things to come? We were overcome by excitement as we braved the dark hallway. Then, suddenly, a bright light. As we walked into the main ball room, we were greeted with a mythical venue which exceeded our wildest fantasies. Patrons Butch and Jimmy John sat at the bar, devouring their freshly prepared baked beans. The comely lass behind the bar toiled while making a sandwich of epic proportions, but quickly noticed us patrons, shivering cold from a world frozen over with greed. She looked at us, and her smile was enough to warm our now thawing hearts. «What will ye have?», she said. I took my time. Their selection of drink was admirable, possessing not only bottles, but beer straight from the draft as well. Their choice of brew was one reminiscent of the American Dream, one of pride in country. They had not lost faith in our society, not yet. I chose a glass of Fat Tire for myself, and a glass of Coors for my traveling companion. As she removed the perfectly frosted mugs from the freezer, I noticed their size. I began to fret… «What have I gotten myself into?», I wondered. The sight of the golden amber being gently poured into the glass was barely enough to ease my nerve. I looked up onto the wall and gazed upon the pictures of others who had come before me. They all looked too happy, and I, exausted from a day in hell, wanted to be like they were in those pictures. As she turned to me, I began to shake. I was already behind on my payments at three other bars, and Mickey Three Fingers was hot on my tail to repay my debt. However, as she turned to me and bellowed«$ 8, my lad», a feeling of sheer joy washed over my soul. Now, I’m not one to cry often, but I shed yet another tear that day. All the things that had haunted our existence that day were immediately forgotten. As my compatriot and I enjoyed our frosty brews(brews double the size of a normal pint, I may add), we were eased into pure, unadulterated, relaxation. Hearing the bar’s patrons chat about Rob Zombie, the muffled sounds of Stargate on AMC gently caressing our ears, we were at home. We did not try their fare, but aye, it looked as if it was freshly prepared and fairly priced. I’m confident that I would enjoy… I expect no less. My adventures in the I.B.P. are few and far-between, but if I ever venture back to that Godforsaken place, I will once again search for«The Bread Box». My oasis. My beacon. My home.

Small sandwich shop in an industrial area. The inside is dark and not very inviting, the service is nice. We have been eating here for years since it is close to work it is the ultimate lunch place. Everyday she has a different special, like BBQ chicken and rice, lasagna, teriyaki chicken and fried rice… you always get a salad with the meal and either fruit or a roll. She also has sandwich specials I think but I don’t care to much for the sandwiches… they are kind of boring. There is beer on tap and wine I believe, along with satellite TV to watch sports or the news. I never eat there just get the food to go. Recommended if you work in the area but not a place I would travel to to each lunch.
