Banh Cuon Tay Ho

When I’m hanging out with Tina T. in San Jose, I’m always up for Vietnamese food! She’s in charge of taking me to the good places and ordering. I’m in charge of eating and enjoying. ;)
Before the Beyonce concert, we came here to grub:
— Banh Cuon Tay Ho Dac Biet ($ 8.70): can’t go wrong with the combo! Most of the items were delicious.
— Banh Beo ($ 7): there were about ten pieces and decently sized.
— Banh Tom Chien Khoai ($ 8.25): called special shrimp tempura with yam, but definitely tasted like fried batter with shrimp. Very interesting! They tasted fresh if you take them home and just toast them a little.
Overall, pretty homey place for Vietnamese food!

Probably one of the best places to get banh cuon. Service are friendly. I think it is cheaper to get a tray of banh cuon to go $ 25. You can feed the whole family

Love the rice rolls here. Very authentic compared to other stores in town. My favorite is the veggie ones with very yum fillings of mushroom and tofu. They just cook by order so everything comes out fresh and hot. Another of my fav items is fried yam & scrimp cake which is very crispy and crunchy and I always substitute for some add-​ons.

Foods good, service sucks.

Came in before running errands in the area and stopped for a late breakfast early lunch. It’s a small spot of tucked away in a small plaza. Real hole in the wall but did the trick and quenched my hunger. I ordered a soup bowl and Wifey ordered spring rolls and a combo plate. Service was pretty good and the food hit the spot. Didn’t like the dicey feel and the odor the place gave off while eating was nauseating. Nonetheless the food came quick and the refills on drinks was fairly frequent. What I did like was that it did have that homely feel despite the interior looks. Still a decent place to grab a quick bite if you’re in the area.

banh xeo! kinda greasy, but still has the crunch. quite delicious but wish the shell were off. The pork spring roll was really refreshing. bo bun hue was kinda flat… service wasn’t bad. banh xeo takes awhile to make. kinda far to get it. but not a bad place to try out.

I never do the ordering but I’m pretty sure we always get #11 — their special combination plate. I love eating banh cuon and the food here is pretty good. The food tastes fresh and portions are filling. Service is like any other Asian restaurant.

If you like banh uot or banh cuon. This is it. My mom use to go to this place borderline downtown by the railroad and mcdonalds to buy banh uot. Then she would buy all the extra fixings at the supermarket. I don’t know if it’s still there or if my mom just stopped going there. After I found this place, I always come here when I’m craving banh uot.
They offer party trays and also take card here! Surprising for asian place to take card, haha. So don’t worry if you don’t have cash. They have jugs on the table. Don’t be fooled. It’s sweetened fish sauce. Don’t pour yourself a cup and drink it. My non-​asian friend thought it was tea.
Thai tea here is good too. As plenty of people have mentioned, order the #11. :) I saw that they also have banh beo here. Kind of hard considering bun bo hue is right down the street and offers bomb banh beo. I’ll give theirs a shot next time though.

My boyfriend and i came here this afternoon and both got the #11.
Two minutes into me enjoying the food, my boyfriend found a worm/​maggot in his food. We barely picked at our food and our appetite was completely gone from seeing that. The waiter offered him a new plate, but at that point neither of us wanted to continue eating there. I went up to the counter to let them know we didn’t want to continue our meal.
The waiter was going to compensate for both out dishes, but the lady behind the counter told him to charge for my dish only with 10% off. Considering that i barely even picked at my food, 10% off does not even come close to covering for the meal i did not eat due to the fact that i was utterly disgusted by that worm.
I know this happens. Sometimes places dont get the chance to thoroughly clean their produce… this does not however justify serving customers contaminated food. And if one dish is contaminated, i personally think both of our dishes shouldve been compensated.
We were really craving banh cuon too.

I clearly have an obsession for certain dishes whether it be curry, soup, sushi, etc. And when I get addicted. I will go out of my way to either make it or go out to get that dish SEVERAL times until I get sick of it. (Repeat a few months later when I refind my love for it again).
In this current state of time, I am OBSESSED with banh cuon it’s not even funny. I have been vegan for the past 5 months and I was so happy to find they have 3 «vegetarian» options on their menu. I’ve been getting the #21 I believe. and it is just AMAZING. The price is on point, the serving is great, the banh cuon is amazing as well as the other additions added onto the plate.
Not only did I get a «veggie» fish sauce to be served with my plate, but as I walked in my 2^nd time after not even a week went by, they already knew my order and brought out a veggie fish sauce to my table before I even sat down LOL. How great is that? (pls don’t make fun that i came in twice in one week. alone)
To give off an even better impression of this place, I went to a different banh cuon place for dinner the night prior to going my 2^nd time and it was NOWHERE as good! Didn’t have a veg fish sauce, didn’t have a veg option in the menu, had to have my friend ask them if they could do it, the price was more and the serving was less.
TAY HO sooo has my heart for banh cuon and I’m so happy they’re quick, efficient, and so far, consistent with their dishes :)

After my experience at Tay Ho in Oakland, I was pretty skeptical of trying out another location and so was my younger sister. But since I was already out in the area, I thought «What the heck! It can’t be that bad since the reviews are pretty good!»
We showed up for dinner on a Tuesday evening around 6:30 PM. The place was kind of empty so we were seated right away.
My sister ordered the #11 banh cuon dac biet and I ordered the #12 banh cuon nhan thit. We were both glad that we decided to give them a chance to prove us wrong – that the Oakland location just needs to step up their game.
We both enjoyed our food and definitely appreciated the unlimited supply of nuoc mam.
We finished our meal with an order of the coconut jelly, which was not too sweet. Although, I do like my desserts to be on the sweeter side…
We both liked the banh cuon enough to actually place an order for two additional orders to take home for later.
We will definitely be back!

I was craving banh cuon one night, and Unilocaled this locate and found out it is literally down the street from my house. Staff is kind of low, a lot of empty tables but took awhile for them to realize I was standing there waiting to be seated. No biggie, they were short staffed. I understand. As soon as I got seated, I looked at the menu and knew exactly what I wanted. I ordered the banh cuon dac biet, it was one of the best and freshest banh cuon’s I have ever had. The lady who worked there was even sitting at table rolling them. Def fresh. The only complaint I have was the heater was on way to high, it wasn’t even that cold out. It was uncomfortable warm. I ordered that dac biet plate and fresh orange juice, which only cost be about 12 $ total.
I am def coming back.

Honestly whenever I’m craving Banh Cuon this place hits the spot, big portion and it is cheap!

Came in for a late lunch today and it was just OK compared to the last time we’ve been here. The hubs ordered #11, the Banh Cuon dac biet and I ordered the bun cha gio thit nuong. Food came out super quick, which was great but the Banh Cuon was not warm/​hot. The dish and rolls were tiny compared to what it use to be. About $ 17 for the both of us. We probably won’t be back.

Get your carbs on here! The rice rolls dishes (#11−15 for the non Vietnamese speaking) are kinda their thing. Goi cúon is fairly well done too. Super fast service.
Many restaurants have a bottle brown sauce or sriracha on the table. Not here. This place has a pitcher of fish sauce to pour, dip and slather to your taste buds content.
Ok the downside. Parking sucks and it’s tight. Plenty of parking on the adjacent side street if you fear door dings.

I ate lunch here with my mom after 12pm and this place was somewhat busy. There was a small parking lot but we parked in the other parking lot nearby and walked over. The interior was small and they had a flat screen TV in the corner playing Vietnamese music videos.
The menu had pictures of pretty much every single item which was nice to see what the food looked like before ordering. I ordered two #14 Banh Uot Thit Nuong ($ 7.50) because I was hungry. My mom ordered #21 Banh Cuon Tay Ho Chay ($ 8.50). The food came out relatively quick. The Banh Uot Thit Nuong tasted good and one order would be enough for one person. I started to get full after roll number twelve. I ended up with a food coma after I finished both orders. I would recommend that!
Good place for some Vietnamese food in the area in my opinion.

#11 is the way to go kids!

I love Banh Cuon, so when I came to SJ, I knew i had to get a good recommendation. #11 is pretty much the everything plate. It’s a great size that will get you filled up at just the right price. Service is fast and fish sauce on errthang.

Great place– I’ve been here twice and there was no line both times. Service is good, they refilled our glasses of water.
The food is great! I come for the banh cuon– #11 or #12 are my favorite. The fish sauce is perfect for my taste and you can adjust how spicy you want the sauce.

I dropped by with my two kids recently and had a wide variety of items off their lunch menu, including the banh cuon which was recommended by others on Unilocal,a fairly intense combination of flavors, including pork, shrimp, pickled cabbage. They have an unusually diverse menu at least if you’re used to the standard grill, spring roll and banh mi items that many local Vietnamese restaurants serve. They were doing a brisk business but the food was served promptly. My daughter ordered the jumbo shrimp appetizer which was pretty much what you’d expect, a deep friend delight to the seven year-​old palette. My son opted for #21 seafood served as a soup. (It’s also available dry.) They were out of the crab, like the rest of California. It was great even without out. I’d happily come again.

TayHo has some of the best Vietnamese food that I have experienced. I love to get the Korean Short Rib here. I recommend you try this place if your in the area.

My family and I went here for dinner tonight.
I ordered the Mi Quang, which had yellow rice noodles, tons of cabbage and herbs, black sesame chips, pork and shrimp. While the dish was flavorful, it was not what I’m usually used to. I felt the soup base was a little too sweet.
Other dishes we ordered was the banh cuon dac biet, which had different rice noodle rolls filled with minced meat and came with a side of shrimp tempura and different cha lua. This is what this restaurant is known for, and it did not disappoint. We also ordered a vegetarian dish and a banh uot (rice noodles) with thit nuong (grilled pork).
Each plate was very appetizing and filled with so much food. Plus, they’re super generous with the fish sauce. They had a pitcher of fish sauce, one that’s non vegetarian and another that’s vegetarian.
I love that there’s a variety of dishes and that they have vegetarian option for those who prefer that.
I would recommend coming here for your Vietnamese food fix.

The most authentic Vietnamese rice rolls you can find. If this is gonna be your first time trying this place out I recommend ordering #11. It has everything: rice flour sheet roll, rice flour sheet roll stuffed with meat inside, slices of Vietnamese pork ham, shrimp tempura, fried mung bean balls, Vietnamese cured pork sausage, egg roll, steamed bean sprout with cilantro and a side of dipping fish sauce to put over your plate. Yum! A must try. It’s the right amount of chewiness, not too oily, thin, and freshly made and for only $ 8.97 you can’t beat that! Always been a fan since I was a kid of this place growing up and will always be.

This was the first time I’ve ever had banh cuon, and there were so many different items on my plate! There were flour sheet rolls, rice flour sheets with pork, shrimp tempura, bean sprouts, eggrolls with pork, a pink square food that tasted pickled but I have no idea what it was, fried bean muffin, and flat pieces of food that tasted like fish balls. Not sure what half the food on my plate was, but it was very good! Also the fish sauce on each table (might be home made?) was really good too.
The flour sheets were very chewy, and they were good. The sheets with pork were good too; could have had more flavor, but was good with the fish sauce. The shrimp tempura was tasty; crispy outsides and chewy insides, very good. Eggrolls were good too. Actually, basically my entire plate of food was good, except the pink square item was somewhat odd.
It felt like eating a bunch of snacks though, and I could’ve eaten more. The meal came out to be a little less than $ 9 after tax ($ 8.20? pre-​tax), so it was a bit expensive for the amount of food I think. Quality is good though, worth a try! I might actually be back if I’m in the area.

Authentic, flippin’ delicious Vietnamese rice roll dishes to be had here, along with other consistently good items and drinks. But seriously folks, #11. That’d be the namesake combination special consisting of: rice flour sheet rolls, rice flour sheet rolls filled with minced pork and mushrooms, steamed pork slices, fried steamed pork slices, sweet potato tempura with shrimp, fried mung bean flour ball with shrimp, sour pork sausage (that pink square thing), AND eggroll. Holy moly, all that for only $ 8.25 (price has gone up slightly, and hey-​o, where’d the Unilocal deal go?!).
This place has been in business for years and their food has been bomb the whole time! They serve THE BEST banh cuon or rice flour rolls in the bay area, no joke. The rice flour is rolled super thin but maintains the perfect amount of chewiness and is always served fresh. It pairs really well with their house-​made nuoc mam, or fish sauce, and all the other components of a dish.
Decent service (the restaurant is run efficiently) and cleaner than most places in the area. Don’t be alarmed by the seemingly small parking lot — the adjacent huge plaza is connected so you can park there or on the side street. Do be alarmed by the sketchiness. Keep your wits about you, enjoy your meal, and pay with a credit card. Dope.

Ever since moving to the South Bay area, I’ve been searching for my new spot to hit up for banh cuon. We found this one and even my hair cutter recommended this place too.
I’ve tried both the Banh Cuon Dac Biet Tay Ho and the Banh Uot Thit Nuong, but usually go for the former for the variety. I only wish they had a larger size lol.

It’s been over 5+ years since I ate at Tay Ho in Westminster, and I still remembered that the food was delicious. We had a family lunch here, and the food is still the same. Love the shrimp tempura with the yam. Fried goodness.
We went here twice in the past two months. First time, I ordered the banh cuon with vegetarian stuffing, fish cake, and shrimp/​yam tempura. The second time, I ordered #20, a vegetarian dish with plain rice noodles, tofu, bean sprouts, and shrimp/​yam tempura.
Times of operation: 8am to 8pm. They close early for dinner! We arrived five minutes until 8pm and they were nice enough for us to come in to eat.
Credit cards accepted.

#11 is my favorite! It comes with an assortment of different things. This is what I always get when I come here. Portion may look small but the flour cakes are heavy enough to hold you off.
Service is like any other Asian restaurants. Don’t expect superb quality but the food is good.

This place is da bomb. Got a craving for banh cuon, then come here.
I don’t think there is much to say about this place, except that it is excellent. The service is lovely, they are quick on ordering and bringing out your food. I absolutely have no complaints about this place. Staff is totally friendly and attentive when you need something. Definitely not expected from a hole in the joint.
I’m always here when it comes to fulfilling my craving for banh cuon. So I’d totally recommend everyone to go here.

If you’re having a hard time finding the place, it’s in the tiny plaza side/​front of senter market, the one with the doctors office and mobile phone store.
I’m a bit biased because my mom makes the best vietnamese food of all time. I didn’t order the banh cuon here, so I can’t rate that. I did have bun thit nuong and banh beo. I like that they have the nuoc nam in a bottle on the table so you could drench your food in the smelly, but delicious, sauce as much as you want! The food is pretty good if you’re looking for restaurant vietnamese food, not home made food.

This place serves up some really unique Vietnamese food. While I am no expert in the world of Vietnamese cuisine, I can tell you this is a very authentic and superb place. The #11 combination is my go-​to staple here. It comes with a variety of their most popular orders. The little pouch of pork and
Mushroom in a rice roll is excellent! It’s the cutest invention and also one of the tastiest things ever.
The egg rolls are good too. Piping hot if you order them separately. I enjoyed it wrapped in lettuce leaves they give.
This is the only place I know that serves up this thing. The staff here is incredibly nice! So nice. I ordered and my total was 18.29 or something and he told me not to worry about the .29. Small gesture but so nice. I thanked him.

I only tried the Banh Beo and Banh Cuon only. I don’t think I would really get their other dishes like the rice plates or the noodle soups simply because of the name of the place is called «Banh Cuon Tay Ho» So I assume their specialty is Banh Cuon.
Anyway, I wish their Banh Beo was ground shrimp instead of mung bean. They give you maybe 10 pieces. As for the Banh Cuon, it was really good but they only give you 4 rolls.
They have a big jug of their special fish sauce which was really good. Just add some garlic chili to it and it’s just perfect.
I think for about $ 8 a plate that’s a little expensive for these types of dishes. I rather go to a Vietnamese Take Out spot and pay $ 3-​$ 5 for them, and those places give you more than this restaurant.
I wouldn’t go here again though.
