Vua Kho Bo & O Mai

This fun little shop is filled with tons of sweet & savory treats, uncommon to most. The two women that welcomed me at the door were very sweet and walked me through a bunch of free samples. I was allowed to taste anything I was interested in. My big purchase was a bag full of about 7 different styles of jerky! My favorite is the honey glazed option. If you are looking for an authentic experience or a tasty new snack to brag about to your hipster friends, give this place a shot.

You wonder why this place is so empty compared to the one in Grand Century Mall… and you would be right to wonder, and then leave here quickly.
I wanted to branch out to try different stores and found this one. I bought 2 kinds. On the same day, I also bought some from the 2 other stores in Grand Century Mall. I opened the 2 packs after about a month and there was a plastic stench. It wasn’t modly, but it was bad. It smelled midly nasty, but I ate a few pieces anyway, it tasted ok, but slightly funky. I’m not the type to return food or complain, generally I believe food is safe and good.
After a few minutes, I burped out some funky plastic chemical smell. I’m glad I didn’t get sick. Being who I am, I ate some more anyway. Same thing. Like I said, it wasn’t ridiculously horrible. I asked 2 friends for their opinion of the smell and they said that was a weird smell. Hey, I never know if I’m right.
I went back to the store to return it or exchange and they said no, that’s too long, and I also didn’t put it in the fridge. They said they put theirs in the fridge every night. I talked to them some more but they said no.
A few days later (today as of the review), I am opening my last pack from GC, and it is perfectly fine and tasty. No smell. Still juicy. I have never refrigerated my beef jerky and I don’t think it’s needed.
If you are looking for a good beef jerky place, go to the 2 stores at GC. If you don’t want to take my word, just look at the sheer amount of customers the 2 stores at GC have.

We’ve bought beef jerky here, and it was delicious enough, but it was not particularly special and still overpriced.
Also, although they have a lot of different dried, dehydrated, and preserved fruit here, their variety is not very large — they don’t have any dehydrated longans, which is pretty common in this kind of store! It’s all just ginger, kumquats, lemon rinds, and other super-​common stuff. Lame.
Lastly, the cashier and other store employees are very pushy and demanding. They also try to force different foods on you, and yes, they charge you different prices than what might be quoted. Just watch out for that and tell them to change the prices appropriately. Such a hassle, but this stuff happens.
By the way, «vua» means «king,» and based on the lack of variety of foods and lack of customer care/​service, this store is nobody’s king of anything!

FRAUD business model alert!!! Warning: after you walk in this store, they «force» you to buy food. Until you pay, they charge you more than the correct weight of food!!! California government should shut this business down!!! 0 star & they are Vietnamese, not Chinese. PLEASE BE AWARE: «Golden Pacific Link Inc.» shows on receipt but store name is «Vua Kho Bo» you can find 5 same business names on Unilocal.Obviously 1 business owner!

I stop by here many times. Everytime I went in, I like to taste test different snacks, dried or dehydrate foods. Yes, I buy some if I like the taste. The service from the staffs are friendly and always with a smile. I cannot think of any bad things about this establishment, besides how many food retailer let you try before you buy??? 5 Star on my list!!!

Pros: Vietnamese snacks and desserts
Cons: parking is crowded; be careful what you pick in this store (if you don’t know what it is, you should ask for a taste at least)
This place has a lot of the Vietnamese desserts and snacks such as jerky of many kinds, pickled fruits, dried food (both for regular eaters and vegetarians), candies, imported goods that have that French flavor Vietnamese seem to love, etc., to name a few.
I’m not spectacularly fond of these desserts but I would recommend it to others who might love them.
