Painful but effective.
Being Chinese, I was introduced to deet-​da specialists as a child. Whenever Kaiser just prescribed pain relievers for a sprain (which is all they’ll do, right?), my parents would bring me to Chinese doctors to fix the problem. So smelly medication, odd pills and the lot are not unfamiliar to me.
Still, none of that prepared me for the pain I felt when I saw Dr. Yeung for my back this week. In the beginning of the week, the pain was so excruciating that I made 2 hospital visits and a visit to another Chinese doctor. Nothing worked, and I wasn’t able to lay flat or sit without pain. I missed 2 full days of work, which is quite a bit for a trial lawyer who is in court everyday. My parents brought me to Dr. Yeung — despite my protests.
There’s a purpose behind his massage. It’s painful, but that’s because there’s a clot or blockage in that area that needs to be cleared. Without going through this process, the blockage will remain and all the pain relievers and muscle relaxers one can take will only be a temporary fix. Those who have chronic back or shoulder issues should understand this. Tolerating 30 seconds and then another 30 seconds of his massage + his herbal wrap allowed me to sleep well for the first time in days. 3 days later, and I (against his advice) went to a ballet class. From the ER to ballet in days is pretty much a miracle.
I still have to go back for several more treatments. The pain from the massage subsides as the area heals properly. His waiting room is packed — with professionals, young kids, police officers, moms, dads and the elderly. I watch them go bravely into the «consulting room» and exit with a smile, and I borrow from their courage. And really — it’s not *that* bad. It’s more the anticipation (like anticipating a shot) than anything else.

I’ve been experiencing back pain sometimes on and off for the past 2 months, and I really have no idea why. My mom took me here for a visit last week since she tried this place once a while ago, and she said that it helped her leg pain.
So I gave it a try. Omfg… the massage was ridiculously painful. I was in so much pain that I screamed/​kicked/​cried. I’ve never had a massage this painful in my entire life. The doctor claimed that the better I endured the painful massage the faster my pain will go away. Then he placed a herbal wrap for me to wear on my back for a total of 24hrs. He gave me a card of all the things I can’t eat & what I can eat. There were soo many different things that I couldn’t eat. Made me sad.
I ended up bbq pork & rice and porkchops & rice for two days in a row til I was like «eff this sheez», and I decided not to return back to this place for a visit again. My back was itchy for two days because of the wrap. If I had known about the this place, and checked the reviews beforehand, I wouldn’t have come here in the first place.

I cannot agree more with the person who left a review on their sprain ankle! My bottom suggestion is that don’t go here if you have a sprained ankle. You will only waste your money. (It’s not cheap, $ 55 per treatment, plus you need to go every other day). I went there for a total of four times and did not get significantly better. He massages you for maybe one minute and wraps the medicine around your feet so tight you will have problem walking. He tells you to take the medicine off before your next visit. This is a big scam since those medicine only lasts 10 – 12 hours. After 3 weeks, I am still limping on my feet. I am so happy that my friend recommend me to another herbalist in oakland. I think after proper treatment, you sprained ankle should feel less tension, you can actually feel your feet got a little lighter. That’s how I felt after going to the herbalist that was recommended by my friend.

Ok — the two star rating is for the results/​effectiveness. Didn’t get worse, but most importantly didn’t get better after 3 sessions. Off to another chiropractor…

I found Wai Keung Yeung back around 20 years ago when I sprained my knee while playing basketball. It hurt so bad that I could barely walk without feeling sharp pains on my knee. After the initial visit, he snapped the ligaments back into place and immediately it felt about 80% better. Within a couple of days, I’ve already returned to play basketball without problems, and about a week later the pain has completely gone away.
I moved out of the area after college and did not re-​connect with him until recently when I re-​injured my knee and my shoulders this time. I have problems with my shoulders for years now and western doctors told me I have bursitis and I could get surgery which would cost a lot and take 6 – 8 months to recover without even taking a x-ray…basically waste of my co-​pay. The shoulder problem got worse and worse, and there were times I can’t even lift up my arms or changing clothes without feeling pain. After the initial visit to his clinic for my shoulders recently, I felt immediately better and can lift my arms without sharp pains and it has improved tremendously (3 weeks of treatments now).
People with bone/​ligament/​joint injuries/​sprains should try thisby Dr. Yeung, he has been doing this for atleast 24+ years… One should know that this is all external medicine and no invasive needles or operations is required… I highly suggest people should visit him first before deciding on an invasive surgery, because you probably do not need to be cut opened to be healed after you visit Dr. Yeung (
