I’ve been working with Dr. Singh for 2 years at this point. It’s been challenging work, but deeply transformative and healing. I think it’s needed to be a slower process to get into deeper places. I’m also a therapist so I have some perspective from that angle as well. I had tried some Cognitive-Behavioral work in the past and it was helpful, giving me tools to deal with anxiety, but I just knew that there was deeper work to be done. I then had a few years of psychoanalysis, but I felt that there was something missing in that approach. I wanted an approach that was at least open to the ineffable, to the spiritual, and one that didn’t try to reduce it all to something from early childhood or infancy. With Dr. Singh, I’ve been able to be more free from the impact of my early family life, which had been effecting my current relationships more than I realized. I think there have been parts of myself that had felt frozen, that feel more thawed out now. I feel like this has helped me become more confident and my creative/artistic side has begun to flourish. I’ve also been amazed at how powerful work with my dreams has been in helping guide me forward. These are perspectives from within myself — it’s been helpful to have a process in place to explore their meaning and to help integrate that into my life. I’ve liked that Dr. Singh has given me space to explore myself, without getting into a quick fix sort of mode. My experience has been that it’s needed to take time to work at a deeper level. It’s been scary at times, but I’ve always felt deeply supported and genuinely cared for, like I really matter. I feel that he brings a deep warmth and presence, and his capacity to point out some unhealthy patterns in a warm and accepting way has helped me accept myself more and address some of those ways of being that were limiting me. In part because of this work, I think I’m a much stronger woman now and experience more wonder and joy in my life, work, marriage and other relationships.

Saw him for about 12 sessions in attempt at Jungian analysis. Upside: he’s very responsive and calls back quickly. Also responsive in thinking of books and articles I’d like — not for everyone, but I’m an academic with psychology background. Downside: the analytic approach perhaps, but also pretty glacial progress. After talking re many dreams, I got only quite generic, hororscope like insights: he thought I might not trust parts of myself and others, though he wasn’t sure what parts I might not trust! Also, when I wanted to terminate — even after saying this for weeks and bringing a written checklist — he was rather unprofessional and sloppy. He asked if I’d return a book and article I borrowed — the usual standard is to say you’re always welcome to return. And when I wanted to get copies of my records, as the law allows, he was quite unprofessional. I can understand feeling hurt that I didn’t think his treatment was worthwhile, but this raises doubts about his care in general. Overall, nice guy but probably not quite ready for prime time.
