X Generation

Found this gem in the Haight. I love the clothes and fresh new styles. Just a heads up, try the clothes on. Love this place just not everything fits well. You will be impressed and fall in love though. Staff is super friendly and helpful.

The clothes at X Generation are the cutest! From rompers to lace pants to cropped tops, they have the latest fashion. Price point is not bad compared to other stores in the area, I bought a long sleeve romper for $ 34. I saw so many things I loved, I would have went broke in this store if my mom didn’t pull me out lol. Moet, the retail specialist, was the best! She was very helpful with finding my size and trying things on. On my next trip to San Fran I will for sure come back.

Not the highest quality clothing, but absolutely cute and pretty cheap. I adored the styles and wound up with about twenty items to try on. Fortunately, I did not look ravishing in all twenty and left with six or seven. Pretty good, right? Right.
I liked that I was not limited to a certain amount of items in the dressing room.
I liked the sale rack.
I liked the wide availability of smalls, I think only one item I was interested in lacked my size.
I wish you were in Hawaii.
I wish I resided in San Francisco.
Alas, I will make do with frequent visits.

If I’m looking for a unique one-​of-​a-​kind boho type piece that isn’t ultra conservative and then I’ll head here. Many of the clothing items they make themselves. So you truly can find original pieces here. When I’m paying $ 15 – 20 for a cute, multi-​faceted tank I’m not expecting it to last forever, I doubt if I’ll even wear it more than a couple times. But I’m okay with that. The items are on the trendier side for me so I expect to find just an occasion or two to wear them. The pieces I have taken home with me are not wardrobe staples. They are pieces that make an outfit shine.
Great selection in such a small space. I picked up some cool body chains for a fraction of the price elsewhere and the quality wasn’t much different than those I found on etsy. I don’t head out of my way to go there but if I’m in the area I’ll always stop in to see what they have.

First of all, this store has very poor quality clothing and not the best selections. Compared to other clothing stores on Haight, I was not impressed with X generation.
The employees and manager are extremely rude and disrespectful!
My friend and I walked into X generation one day and found a few dresses to try on. I brought three dresses into the fitting room that the employee herself had counted before she gave me a fitting room. I tried them on and hung them back on the hangers. I gave two dresses that I didn’t want back to the same employee who had counted my items previously and held on to one since I was still on the fence about buying it. After literally 5 minutes of contemplating, I decided I didn’t want it and began to put it back on the very rack I had originally got it from when suddenly the employee snatched the dress from my hand! Then she tells me that the dress was on the wrong hanger and begins to accuse me of shoplifting!!! I was in complete shock! How was I supposed to know that certain dresses were to be hung on certain hangers? I explained to her that I must have mixed up the hangers when I hung the dresses and gave them back to her. I continued to explain to her the I had other dresses with me in the fitting room and I had given them back to her but apparently she had already forgotten that in a matter of five minutes and she kept accusing me of stealing! I finally let her search my purse and she even searched my friend’s purse and bag. After she and the manager realized that we hadn’t stolen anything they never apologized!
I will never ever be going back to X generation!
There are plenty of other stores on Haight with better quality, unique clothing and amazing customer service!

X Generation is by far my favorite store on Haight. They have unique items that you won’t find anywhere else, and for a reasonable price. When I go there, I usually find the kind of items that you’d plan an outfit around, not filler pieces. The have a lot of bold clothes and accessories, which is why I like it. The quality is pretty good; not super great but I’ve never had anything I’ve bought there fall apart. I find that this store has better stuff than the other one at Masonic, even though it’s smaller. I don’t know why that is. I feel like the other store has more basic, conservative clothes. The girl with the curly hair that works there is super nice. I always end up buying something there every time I walk in, even if it’s small.
The only negative thing I can think of is their extremely restrictive return policy, which they don’t have posted anywhere in the store. I bought something that didn’t fit, and waited two weeks to take it back. It turns out that they only accept returns 10 days after purchase. When I next went into the store, I looked all around their cashwrap and couldn’t find any placard or sign that stated their return policy. They don’t put it on the back of the receipt, and they don’t mention it at the time of purchase either, like a lot of other retailers do. I think that if you have a non-​traditional return policy like that (i.e. something other than 30 days with receipt, no receipt gets store credit, etc.), then you should definitely make sure that it is posted conspicuously.

If you like clothes that are worse quality than Forever 21, but higher prices, then this is the shop for you.
I’ve been here twice and on both occasions, I was not impressed. I probably wouldn’t have gone the second time, but a sale sign drew me in. $ 8 shirts & $ 12 dresses sounded so tempting! Stupid me. I went straight to the back where the sale items were and was pretty let down. They were some of the ugliest pieces of clothing I have ever seen and terrible quality.
I ended up looking around a bit more and did finally find a single shirt I liked for $ 24. Probably could have found it at Forever21 for half that. But, I was tired of walking around Haight. Impulse buy.
The dressing rooms are kind of gross, the employees aren’t too helpful, quality is terrible, and prices are too high. Definitely meant for the tourists who don’t know better. I’m only giving it 1 star because I like my new shirt, but I’m not going to waste my time in there again.

Epic fail on customer service!
As I walked in the store I was brushed by a girl who turned out to be a late employee relieving he current employee that was already off. I said a polite I’m sorry when the girl brushed into me even though it was her fault. She ignored me and started a LOUD conversation with a lot of swearing to her co-​worker.
Girl 1: So you have to tell me what the f*** is going on.
Girl 2: There is so much sh** going on you won’t even believe it.
I am abhorred by swearing. And I was completely taken back that this conversation was be two employees. I walked past them quickly upstairs to the sale rack. I want to confirm that the dresses on that rack were 12 USD. Girl 2 said all the white hangers are 12 USD. Well the dress I was looking at was on a cream colored hanger and the price said 18 USD. So I said this one is 18? She snapped at me and said I told you all the white hangers are 12 USD.
I wasn’t trying to be difficult but cream and white are not the same. And neither of these girls wanted to be there or wanted any questions asked so I walked out. How on earth does this store stay in business with this customer service?

It’s like Forever 21! But not!
You get exactly what you pay for.

I’m on the fence about X Generation, because it’s always a hit or miss.
The items are definitely trendy and hit pretty much all the same notes as Forever 21 with sometimes better, sometimes worse quality. I don’t visit much now, but when I did in college, some days were definitely better than others.
They carry Audrey 3+1 on the regular — definitely one of my favorites — and other brands that I assume are of Asian origin.
Despite the gamble, I still make it a point to stop by when I’m in the Haight-​Ashbury area.

Fun, cheap reasonable price for the quality but very trending!
Ethnic/​Bohemian look is very much emphasized in this store.

You won’t necessarily find great quality items here. X Generation is not a high end boutique with unique well made dresses. But they do carry a solid selection of fun versatile items which rotate out regularly — and many of which you won’t find at many of the other similar stores on Haight.
I’m particularly fond of this store for carrying some cute bohemian style clothes, which often have a vintage edge to them.
The other day I picked up three dresses (all around thirty dollars each) as well as two versatile tunics which have received a slew of generous compliments.
X Generation doesn’t have consistent finds — but I find that sometimes you’ll walk in here and come out with a bagful of gems.

I really think this store is cute. There are two of these stores on haight, and this is the smaller of the two. It’s definitely geared toward people of a younger age, but its all super cute and trendy, I would definitely suggest it to be the best place to go for people in high school and up to 20 years old. That’s not to say that there isn’t stuff for other age groups but I think thats where it is mainly geared.

2. Things are kinda crammed together in the store, and its really hard to go through all of it, and you can’t really see where anything is.

Overall, its okay. Cute and cheap clothes that are a little more, idk «hipster» than forever 21 and h&m. If you are sick and tired of shopping at those two places definitely come here. and you will be happy. It’s a cute place, but kind of overwhelming. Not somewhere I will go out of my way to go to… but definitely could see high school kids loving it.

I’ve read through some of the reviews, and some people are snobbing X-​Gen to be 20-​something and cheap.
I would say that a lot of the clothes fit that description, but if you look deeper you can find some gems.
I have bought two dresses from x-​gen that are absolute class… one is a peachy/​beige dress with a pleated bottom, stretchy waist, deep V back and beautiful shoulder cut. The other is a deep navy, silky flowy thing. Also with a deep V back, slightly longer back than front, flowy sleeves. I’m very happy with my finds there, and the prices are incredible! The beige dress was only $ 18, and the blue one was something like $ 23… total steal!
On first impression there’s a lot of crap, but search around and you’ll find some beautiful things.
(Oh, and try to ignore the girls at the cashier… they’re often a little immature, talking about their x-​boyfriends, some girly tiff or what not… they’re totally harmless)

I used to love this store.
That is, when I wasn’t full time and in high school.
This is the Forever 21 of Haight St… and that’s actually probably insulting Forever 21… at least they are less expensive and have some quality clothes.
Really cheap clothes (quality wise) and cheap jewelry that are overpriced because of the location. Also… they are EVERYWHERE. Tons of racks… some organized, some not…
Don’t get me wrong, some of the clothes are hella cute… but won’t last you for a long time or be practical for a 20 something professional — even when she goes out to play.
I like a good dress that’s going to last, and since I’ve grown up would rather look classy while perhaps paying more money. It would be better than the alternative of looking like I went the less expensive route, and look cheap… and in this case perhaps overpay to look a little cheap.
Skip this and go to Ambiance. Totally better quality and much more classy.

Sort of like a more boutique-​y Charlotte Rousse (sp?) or (gasp) Forever 21 — quality issues, people! — this place seems the type to «snag a shirt just because it’s a new shirt,» or whatever, kind of place.
Don’t pretend like you don’t know *exactly* what I’m talking about, ladies.

This store reminds me of the Fashion District in LA. Cute clothes, cheap prices, but good luck finding a size small!!!
In order to keep up with new styles and changing up the store with more variety, they only order in limited quantities, which means you have to get LUCKY if you see something you like and want it in a size small.
I’ve been here several times for the past few years and although I find myself eyeing more than enough apparel pieces, I’ve only been able to walk out with a shopping bag less than 50% of the time.

The girl with the glasses who has a portion of her head shaved kept on talking and talking without greeting ANY potential clients who came even when they were elbow length. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS AWFUL! The outfits were kinda awesome but THE CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS SOOO LIKE VALLEY GIRL LIKE I was talking to a Barbie doll who isn’t warm nor approachable. They also said… we are closing at 7 because we dont get paid after 7PM REALLY?! These are potential customers. Apparently, they dont love their job enough nor do they care about bringing more revenue if its pass 7PM.
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE WORLD!!!

Everything looks chic, stylish and appealing — on the hanger.
On your body it’s an entirely different story — first there’s the fact of actually getting the clothes onto your body. There isn’t a stitch of lycra or spandex to be found on anything — the clothes fit small, don’t have any give, and a lot of them seem like castoffs from a botched lot that just wasn’t constructed properly and sent here instead. If you’ve never experienced that horrifying moment where you pull a piece of clothing over your head with full knowledge that you might have to physically be CUT out of it, I invite you to grab anything off the rack at X Generation and step into the fitting room. I gasped in horror many times thinking «ohhhh NO» and there were other items that I didn’t dare pull over my head in fear of hulking right out of them.
If you wear a bra (out of necessity, not for decoration), it’s hard to shop here. The cuts of the tops and dresses are meant for flat-​chested ladies who have nothing extra to stretch the shirts past their capacity.
With these provisos in mind, it is possible to find both classic and trendy pieces here and nothing is over $ 40.

I love this store!
I always find at least two items that I absolutely love and the very best part is that I can always afford these items! I find that when I shop at Forevever 21 and H&M I will pass at least two women wearing a shirt that I own and despite the reasonable prices at X Generation I don’t encounter the issue of running into my clothes twin on a regular basis.
