I had the BEST experience at Vim & Vigor! From walking in, being seated and served a glass of wine to walking out with fabulous hair and an amazing experience. The entire staff makes you feel comfortable and welcomed. This was my first time and definitely not my last.
IVONNE was FANTASTIC, she fixed the hair cut I had and suggested a Brazilian Blow Out. My hair is naturally super thick and frizzy so the fact that I have no more frizz and less volume is amazing and it makes my life so much easier. I highly recommend her!

Had an updo appointment with Vanessa and she was really great. Took the time to hear what I wanted and we looked thru a few pics online so she can get an idea for the look I was going for. Vanessa was friendly, professional and I got lots of compliments about my hair at the party. Thanks!

Garrett and Vanessa are excellent and current hair stylists. The team in front never disappoints. Love being a patron!

I went in for a haircut.
The aura is great, and there is complimentary wine and tea! Very interesting interior design. A salon experience should be therapeutic. This one came close. It’s not the best I’ve ever had, and the stylist was not particularly knowledgeable about my questions, but the haircut came out good and has gotten compliments.

A huge shout out to Bianca!
Bianca first colored my bland, naturally black hair to a nice ombré in 2014. She took her time and walked me through the entire process.
The following year, 2015, I wanted to do a touch up on my hair and me being super anxious I went with someone else since Bianca was all booked up for 2 weeks. That was a huge mistake. I ended up going to Bianca the following week so she can fix the damage. And she did an AMAZING job.
I love Bianca and her work. I am never trusting anyone else with my hair.

This review is long overdue. I’ve been going to Vim and Vigor for over a year now, and consistently every 8 – 9 weeks. I see Garret for my cuts, and Bianca for my color. First and foremost– PROFESSIONAL. Every aspect of my experiences at Vim and Vigor have always been handled professionally, and respectfully. As soon as you walk in the door you are greeted promptly and with a smile.
Garret: You can google Garret and find the reassurance you’re looking for prior to seeing him. However, he is so much more than described. Garret is patient, meticulous, incredibly knowledgeable, a perfectionist, and most importantly, himself. Conversations are never boring, and yet never pressured. My hair has never looked better and I’ve never felt so comfortable, confident, and trusting in such an individual.
Bianca: Poor Bianca had the worst of me and yet was even more patient and professional than I could have handled. Bianca listens to the needs and wants, then responds with an HONEST and knowledgable opinion. At one point I gave her the full reins of control, told her to «just go for it» and ended up with my favorite shade yet. Bianca is the sweetest, kindest soul who will do, almost, anything to make you happy! Even if it means coming back for an extra glos!
I will never go anywhere else for my hair cut/​color. I appreciate every one of you at Vim and Vigor and the amazing experiences I always have– THANK YOU!

I had extremely long hair for the last two years, and decided that the hassle was not worth it and it was looking pretty lifeless. I went to Chelcie and she figured out my hair quickly. She got off 7~9 inches and gave me a ton of layers. It’s been a month now and my hair still looks awesome. Everyone who sees my haircut LOVES it! I found my new regular stylist.

This review is way-​overdue as I’ve been truly stoked about this place for almost three years now come March. (The time is flying.) As a dude who is very particular about his hair and considers it one of his prominent features, I didn’t take the search for a new stylist lightly, and so I poked around all over the internet for a good week trying to find a place that was recommended for men that wasn’t a barber.
Luckily, Vim & Vigor was very highly regarded by Unilocal and I started going to Tiffany, and the rest is history. And throughout that history, Tiffany has repeatedly and undeniably nailed every haircut. After each haircut, and further examination in the mirrors, I usually say, «I think this is the best one yet» and she says «I think so too». And then wherever I go for the next week everyone from my mom, to my friends, to random girls in bars tell me how great it looks.
In the past four years, the most significant change I’ve made to my fashion was probably my hairstyle, which started as some sort of late 60’s early 70’s mop and through gradual suggestion became what it is today, which is pretty much the opposite in a really good way.
Tiffany in particular has great taste in things in general, and is a fantastic conversationalist. I’ve had other stylists in the past that are either hair-​cutting machines or can’t stop talking about themselves, and she is neither. Also she has a great artistic sense but doesn’t want to turn your head into a science fair project or an artistic statement. She also knows the right products for your hair and can give great styling recommendations.
The rest of the staff is also amazing and great at making people comfortable. With my unpredictable schedule I have had to change appointments over the phone frequently when they call to confirm an appointment. Every shampoo I get is a vacation from reality. It is not cheap, but it’s worth it as a dude who can’t quantify the different sections of my head as the size number of a clipper guard and who wants to look good.

Ive been going to Vim & Vigor for the last 4 years and have nothing but great things to say about the salon and staff. I am always greeted when I arrive and it seems like the entire staff seems to have a personal relationship with all their clients. I am very picky with my hair and, before Vim and Vigor, found myself constantly re-​trimming my hair after I got back from my cut. However, my stylist Chelcie, has never let me down. She always consults me before doing anything, and is meticulous on the entire cut. I have now had 3 different styles and she has been able to execute every one flawlessly. She is friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and professional. I refer all my friends to the salon and would recommend Chelcie to anyone who is looking for an A+ stylist.

I am writing this review as I am getting my hair done. I have been coming here for over six months. Larissa and Miranda are amazing. Very professional, clean and knowledgable of what they do.

I wanted to go blonde and went to the salon with a photo to better explain what I was expecting. I have a pixie hair cut and my hair is (was) light brown. It was the first time I went for a solid color and I was a bit anxious. Bianca did an amazing job at bleaching my hair and getting the perfect blonde shade. Vanessa also did a great job at bringing my pixie cut back to life. Both of them are real talented professionals!

I’m the worst client you’ll ever want to do hair on… I’m unreasonably picky. But I’ve had my share of bad hair cuts and dye jobs so I think I deserve the right to be pretty strict when it comes to how my hair looks.
I rarely dye my hair because I’m always changing my mind, but I’m glad that Bianca was the one to dye it. She was extremely patient with me as I changed my mind several times throughout the process. She was always more than willing to adjust the process as we went if I wasn’t happy. And in the end, the color came out great.
What’s equally as important Bianca’s patient attitude, is that she is honest about what will look good, what won’t look good, and what will actually work — which I appreciate (I’ve tried to convince her several times to take me blonde in one go… I’d like to keep my hair, so thankfully she’s talked me out of it). And I constantly bug her with questions about hair care and she always answers my questions without annoyance or frustration, which is great! I won’t be going to anyone else to get my hair colored.

A little pricey but worth every penny! Chelcie was my hair stylist and I honestly felt like she cut every piece of hair with love and care. I dont think she knows how much I liked my haircut because I was kind of in shock at first since it was so short (which I asked for, I’ve just never had hair this short) anyways it’s a really good haircut, I’m recommending my boyfriend and my sister to go see her and now everyone on Unilocal!$ 67 for a haircut and totally worth it!

I have been to Vim & Vigor many times. Bianca is the best colorist I’ve had. The salon is also amazing and the staff is really friendly.
When I have my hair done by Bianca I always leave feeling and looking great. My color is always a medium brown with some highlights. Often I have had it turned too dark by other colorists. She definitely has an eye for color and highlights. Bianca always leaves my hair looking rich and with great shine. She is professional and has a sense of humor. She is fun to chat with, but more importantly, does a great job!
I look forward to coming back and having my hair done by Bianca.

Tiffany has been my stylist for almost 2 years and she’s the absolute best! She’s friendly, knowledgeable, and has fabulous taste. Before I met her, I never paid much attention to my hair. It was always a bit too unruly to manage so I typically gave up and shaved my head.
She has not only helped me find a good style, but made it so it’s easy for me to manage… and that’s a HUGE plus! I really love having an actual hairstyle now and it’s so easy to manage I barely even think about it. For a busy guy with very little free time, that’s pretty amazing.
Additionally, the salon itself is beautiful, clean and I always feel well taken care of. It’s a little respite from the daily grind and I love it!

Update– Larissa did uh-​mazing ombré highlights in my hair… I told her I wanted subtle color that would be low maintenance and totally delivered.
Again all the other staff was so nice and helpful. It really is a great place to relax and be pampered.

I’ve always had my hair done at a mall salon because of price and ease, but I have been totally unhappy with the last few cuts I got. I decided to try out Vim & Vigor because I walk by all the time on my way to work. I stopped in and they allowed me to make an appointment the same day.
My stylist, Edward, was amazing. He helped me choose a new haircut that flatters my face and makes my thin curly hair look normal and (dare I say it) pretty! He even explained what he was doing every step of the way so that I could recreate what he did at home. He showed me how to style my hair when wet. Then he showed me how to style my hair while dry. He didn’t try to sell me a bunch of stuff I don’t need, but he did suggest ways to use what I already have at home to make my hair do what I want it to.
Will absolutely be back. Just the head massage I got when they shampooed my hair was a good enough reason never to go back to the mall. But the personalized service I got from Edward solidified this as my new salon.

I moved to San Francisco about half a year ago and was looking for a salon nearby. I found Vim & Vigor through Instagram (on theglamourist’s IG; I also love her!), and once I realized how close it was to my apartment, I had to make the short trip there! I have a tendency of growing out my hair really long, not doing anything to take care of it (which is a very bad habit!), and then splurging on treating myself with a haircut. I love my hair and am super picky about who gets to touch my hair, and Garret and Vim & Vigor definitely exceeded my expectations.
I was looking for a huge change (from very long, ombré-​ed hair), so I made an appointment with Larissa for color and Garret for cut. I really had no idea what I wanted to do with my hair; I just knew I wanted a big change.
I’m pretty low maintenance when it comes to taking care of my hair, so don’t get it colored very often and am not that familiar with the coloring process. Larissa was great; she looked at the pictures of what I wanted and talked me through what she could do with my hair. I ended up getting highlights in a reddish color, that I LOVE and have gotten tons of compliments on. I hadn’t really considered getting highlights and wanted to get a full head of color, but ended up loving the results. Cannot wait to see Larissa again!
Then I had my cut with Garret, who was amazing! He was great on communication and making suggestions, and you could just tell he was great at and loved what he was doing. My hair was down to my lower back, and I had it cut to shoulder-​length. I asked for face-​framing layers, and Garret also put in layers with lots of movement in the back. I love the feel of my cut, and I can already just tell it’s going to grow out really well.
The only negative thing was that when I was getting my hair washed the water kept spraying all over the place; but that was more entertaining than anything, haha. Other than that, the customer service was great and it was a relaxing atmosphere. They don’t push products on you, and they really take their time. Furthermore, I felt awful that my unplanned highlights put Larissa’s schedule back a bit, but she still took her time on me, even checking in after my cut with Garret to make sure everything was great. My visit this time was somewhat of a splurge, but I felt it was very much worth what I was paying for. I am definitely making this a place I regularly go to.
Side note that they only accept gratuity in cash, which I was not completely prepared for. I took a Lyft to the salon because it was just one of those lazy Sundays, but Vim & Vigor is off the Embarcadero/​King St. and street parking was available. Although I’m sure if a Giants game is going on parking would be a problem.

I have been going to Vim and Vigor since January, and I am very impressed by the salon. I am always welcomed at the front by either the stylist I am seeing that day or an assistant. I am given time to change into a robe and offered a beverage. The experience is always very relaxing and comfortable. The stylists are specialized — color and cut — which allows stylists to really focus on their passion. The color room is in the back, and is always a fun place for conversation with other clients and reading magazines.
I go to Bianca for my color — she is amazing. She is very skilled at highlights, and is very skilled at toning my blonde — sometimes I like it more Barbie-​blonde and sometimes I like it more honey — she gets the job done! She also suggested a glaze treatment in between my highlights, which has kept my hair looking healthy and shiny! Bianca has also recommended some great products that have made styling my hair at home WAY easier!
I go to Vanessa for my cuts — also amazing. I have long hair that I want to grow even longer! She does a dry cut that looks fresh and stylish!
The salon as a point system that allows you to accumulate points for services and referrals of your friends to the salon. The point system turns into $ off your services and products, it’s great!
I moved to San Francisco in September, and I am VERY picky about my hair — I went to 4 – 5 other salons for consultations and did not get my hair done until I found Vim and Vigor. The prices are very reasonable, and the service at this salon is comparable to all the luxury salons I have been to.
