Thomas Thickett, DDS

I’ve been going to Dr Thickett for at least eight years and my experience has been positive with him, Leslie and their staff. Their care and attention come through in personality and practices. I recently moved to the east bay but intend to continue with them for awhile despite the drive.
A major undertaking that I had through Thickett Dental was an implant a few years ago. The whole experience was upsetting — it’s jarring to not have a real tooth for many months, and to have a gap while the gum heals between procedures — but they did a good job of keeping me informed and making me feel supported.
The series of events was kicked off by a tooth with resorption finally deciding to quit (something I knew would eventually happen). Dr Thickett was checking the tooth because I was feeling slight pain, and he felt it was not holding up beneath its cap, and it basically disintegrated upon removing the cap and turned out to be impacted. That immediately started the long journey of going between Thickett and his recommended specialist (also very skilled) to have the tooth extracted, my jawbone filled, and get a series of temporary-​to-​permanent tooth replacements.
But I digress because the point is that the Thickett office was communicative throughout the nine months (ugh). Dr Thickett even called me at home that first night to make sure I was okay because I had seemed so shell-​shocked. I thought that was a nice personal touch.

After writing my initial review I received a hand written apology letter and a check for my $ 35 back. In the letter they offered to clean my teeth for free for the inconvenience. I’m still not sure I’m comfortable with that, but I’m considering it. I guess for having returned my money I will upgrade them one star. At least they are aware of Unilocal and read what people say.

Ya Hoo Doc! Originally went in for the $ 35 coupon thing. Was not happy with what he had to say… he said I needed a tooth extracted, so I ordered a copy of my x-​rays for a second opinion which promptly arrived in my mail box. Meanwhile, a bonded tooth chipped a few days later. well I can’t go to work looking like this, they took me the next day. I knew he was pressed for time, but when I said, «The other one does not quite match up, I can come another day…» He made it right that very moment, and did not relinquish until the job was done. One thing really cool about this guy is that he is busy but never in a hurry. The staff TOTALLY rocks as well, I listened as they greeted their clients, of all ages. Fab cosmetic job, Doc.

I am so pleased that a friend referred me to Dr Thickett several years ago. Going to the dentist is not my favorite thing but Dr Thickett is kind and gentle and an excellent dentist. I would totally rcommend his services. Leslie is lovely and very helpful. Could not be better.

After moving to San Francisco to embark on my life as a young profesional, I decided it was time to catch up on the dental care that I had previously put-​off in my student days. Through a friend of the Thickett family I found out about their practice in the city and decided to try them out.
I’m happy to say that now having had 2 cleanings and some filling work done by Dr. Thickett that my experience with them has been consistently excellent. I always receive such friendly and caring treatment from Dr. Thickett and his associates. They do a great job making me feel comfortable and the work itself has been gentle and well done.
So Thickett Dental Care has absolutely earned five stars from me. I will continue to go to them for all my future cleanings and any other work i should need.

I’m very pleased with Dr. Thickett and his staff members. Everyone is pleasant and caring. Two long time patients of his recommended him. I am usually terrified of «anything dental» but Dr. Thickett takes care of making sure I am comfortable and properly numbed. I’m still afraid of dental visits but Dr. Thickett and staff make it a whole lot easier.

Dr. Thickett is a great dentist. I’ve had teeth cleanings, fillings, and one cap/​crown done here. He’s very gentle which is nice, because I’m never scared to go. In fact, I look forward to going!
Leslie is very helpful in scheduling payment plans and such. They are very reasonable and so easy to schedule an appointment, too!

Dr. Thickett is the best. I first visited his office more than 20 years ago because I had one of those tooth-​cleaning coupons from a shopper. I’ve been to a few others since, and can report with confidence that there isn’t even a close second. As other posters have noted, he personally cleans your teeth, and finds stuff that sometimes doesn’t show up on x-​rays and an assistant wouldn’t notice. Earlier this year, he spotted a tiny hard-​to-​find cavity beneath my gumline, saving the tooth and probably a ton of money I don’t have in dental work. Dr. Thickett and his staff have always been nothing but caring, diligent, and professional. If you need a new dentist or aren’t happy with the one you have, you just found one. You absolutely, positively won’t be disappointed.

I think Dr. Thickett is the BEST! I have been going to him for over 13 years ~ I know this as I moved to Foster City 13 years ago and still go to him and make the trip with the kids too. When I find a doctor who is smart, efficient, honest and personable, I will drive miles for an appointment. If you want honest answers you see Dr. Thickett. When my daughter recently had a cavity ~ he showed it to me on the screen without my asking ~ I trust him already but he makes sure you see it so there is no doubt.
I must add that he is great with patients and awesome with children.
I am shocked that anyone has been able to find anything negative about the practice.
And could Leslie, Dr. Thickett or the hygenist be any nicer?

I strongly question the two negative reviews. If you don’t take care of your teeth and it’s been forever since you’ve been to the dentist, then yes you will most likely need some work done. You walk in there with what looks like a mouth full of dice and you think the $ 35 will cover everything? Come on.
Well, I’ve been a patient for the last 3 years and Dr. Thickett is the best dentist I’ve ever had. He’s skilled, gentle, and nice. His whole staff is overly nice, especially Leslie, the receptionist. Every time I’m there it’s a pleasant experience. I actually like going to the dentist now. And it is correct that they do stay on top of you and try and get you to come in for appointments on a regular basis, but this is a good thing. Otherwise you neglect or forget to go to the dentist, until… Bam! You need another deep cleaning or total teeth overhaul. 3 years ago, Dr. Thickett had to do some major work on my teeth, but ever since I’ve been coming back with regular maintenance appointments and my teeth have been superb ever since.
Boo to all the naysayers! Dr. Thickett is the man! And that’s the truth.

After i got this promo in mail with an exam and cleaning for 35, so i decided to give it a try mostly the place is closer than my other dentist. HOWEVER, IT WAS A MISTAKE! After all the x-​rays were taken by this apprentice who didn’t have a clear idea what she was doing and an hour spent, I was stumbled on bad news that the dentist wanted me to have crowns and root canal (over $ 4000 for 2) done on two of my teeths (continuous later). Then i went back for the teeth cleaning one week later, I was told it was gonna take 45mins, but it was literally 10 mins including 2 mins of mouth rinsing. IT WAS RIDICULOUS !!! The dentist constantly had to rush to another patient while he was cleaning my teeth (warning: one dentist + one assist total for this apporx 400 sq ft place with 3 small rooms total), actually 8 mins of teeth cleaning i got. I mean WTH, are they kidding me? I was speechless afterwards, moreover, they forced me to make another appointment for my next visit. After i got out this place, i was so pissed that I called my other dentist right away to make an appoint for cleaning and exam. I’m so happy that i went back to my old dentist today, not only this polite lady cleaned my teeth for full 45mins without any disturbance, I also got the good news that two teeths only need fillings which cost me $ 200 for both and not risk of any deterioration of my teeths whatsoever. This place told me that i need to spend 4000 on something where i only needed the fillings. SO, to everbody consider going to this place, BE AWARE… the place is FISHY!!!
I will never do business with this place again, besides the long wait time is so often (both my trips) since they only have total of 3 people working there. If you consider have your teeths cleaned at this place, i unregretfully tell you that you can do better at home yourself than going to this place plus not paying their out of despair costs.

I got a flier in the mail advertising a dental exam, x-​rays, and cleaning for $ 35. I called right away and made an appointment, all the time wondering if there was some hidden clause written in invisible ink that would require me to pay hundreds of dollars more when I actually showed up… happily, this was not so. I went in for the first appointment and had loads of x-​rays taken. I still feel a bit radioactive after all those x-​rays! they showed that I am doing well with maybe one little cavity (damn! My first cavity at age 30! what am I doing wrong?) that he thought we could wait and keep an eye on. My cleaning will take place during a second appointment. They were EXTREMELY thorough with the assessment and they fit me in at 8:00 so I was able to get to work at a reasonable hour. It’s hard to believe that you can get quality dental care for such a reasonable fee but Dr. Thickett and his team proved me wrong. I encourage everyone to get their long-​overdue check-​ups taken care of – you won’t be sorry! And at $ 35 there’s really no excuse not to go.

Generally, I despise the dentist but Thickett dental made my teeth cleaning an almost positive experience. Everyone was friendly, they were on time and just all around very accommodating. I am never going anywhere else.
