What makes you guys think you deserve a 15% «service charge»? Tips are based on the customer’s gratitude from the service, not what you guys deem as adequate. You’re too presumptuous to add it yourself. As a business, you have no say in that at all. Shane on you Shabu House for being greedy. Be grateful people even come — there are plenty of shabu places in the city.
Be careful not to double tip these guys. They hide it on the second receipt.

This place is so good. the wait is totally worth it and the waiters are very nice and always check to make sure your food is good. def recommend on a cold rainy day! I always come here when I feel sick and feel better right after my soup

So sad! I really liked this Shabu House until recently, when I realized how the new waitresses don’t know how to seat people. We visited on a weekend night, a little after they opened and the waitresses were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. There were reservations and walk-​ins (WOW SO complicated), and it seemed to be a little too much for them because they didn’t know what to do. Three parties of walk-​ins actually confronted one waitress about the seating issue, asking the most BASIC question — why don’t they just seat people inbetween reservations? I agreed with them because we have all been waiting for so long and they would just leave tables empty! Is it really that hard to figure out the seating arrangement? I’ve been to busier restaurants than this and this is by far the most unprofessional one. And, on top of everything, the waitresses weren’t even efficient! Many tables were waiting for their food, waiting to be served, waiting to pay… I really do think the waitresses need to be better trained. The old staff was a lot smarter than the current one.
We ended up waiting over two hours just to be seated. and that only happened AFTER that one waitress was confronted. I could only imagine how long it would have taken if no one said anything. We would have just stared at the empty tables until closing time, eh?
Not coming back to this Shabu HOUSE unless I am absolutely forced to go by others. I’m sure the waitresses here don’t care because it will make their jobs a lot easier, having one less customer to serve!

Shabu is one of my fav comfort foods for a cold night so best believe I will come here or their other locations if I ever have the cravings! The wait for a table can vary from 30 mins to an hour since they don’t have much seating.
Service — It can be hit or miss sometimes. So far the past times I’ve come… weren’t too bad. Not amazing but not bad either. ***Be aware of the auto-​gratituity they put on the bill though so you don’t double tip!
Food — I always order the large meat combo with kurobuta pork and kobe beef. The meats are so fresh and marbled! Def not too fatty either. & I love how they serve ice cream at the end of your meal. I mean who doesn’t like ice cream?
Definitely will be back.

So I was looking for a place to eat. Yes I wanted Shabu Shabu on a cold day. Shabu Shabu is basically hotpot. So ordered the regular combination for $ 18.99. You get to pick two kinds of meat and total weight is 6 oz meat. It comes with veggie and rice as well. Its enough for one person. Or you can pay a bit more and get the all you can eat. I don’t think the all you can eat is worth it. Or for extra $ 3, you can make it a large. So instead of 6 oz meat it becomes 8 oz meat. If you want more meat its about an extra $ 14 for more meat.
I ordered the lamb and beef regular. Good high-​end quality meat. It was very tasty. The best part was their sauce. I had sesame sauce with sweet soy sauce and I also added in garlic and green onion. Its the sauce that makes a difference. They have other condiments as well. I ordered the ginger soup. I was worry it would be spicy. Luckly it was fine.
I was full after the meal. I think I ate too much. One meal is enough for one person. I love this place.
Too bad they don’t have it in Vancouver. But one thing to note is that parking is a nightmare in that area. I had a hard time finding parking.
I would come back that is for sure if I am in the area.

I came right at 5:30, waiters are more attentive when the restaurant isn’t full… Service got crappier as the restaurant started to fill. Water was never refilled, couldn’t get extra green onions or ponzu… And waited forever just to get our bill. My bf and I were charged 15% service charge!!! The credit card slip also had a spot to add additional tip if u don’t catch their automatic charge!!! That’s soooo shady!!! I rather drive a little further to shabuway!!!

Shabu House NEVER disappoints. Don’t get the large. The regular portion plate is good enough for an average human being. You choose your flavor broth which would be spicy miso or ginger chicken. (If you can’t handle spicy food like me, I HIGHLY suggest you play it safe and go with the ginger chicken flavor. Beef or Lamb for the meat and an option for a bowl of rice. The two dipping sauces is what really tops off the whole meal. They are your one-​two punch combo. Don’t be afraid to ask for more sauces if you run out.
Best to try and finish everything. You are paying at least $ 20 for your own self. Gotta get your money’s worth here at Shabu House. Remember to leave generous tips!

Kind of disappointed on how it went. I came here with family. Everything is okay. Portion is lesser than before I feel like. Servers were all over the place. I was sitting in the center of the restaurant, but it took me like 10 mins to have someone deliver my check.
If you are driving, and don’t mind driving a little farther, you should try G cube, where they have more options in food. Slightly cheaper too.

Not a big fan of shabu. But this time the experience was descent. I’d give the food 4 for impressing me. But minus one for auto gratituiy (15%), even for parties of two. Not cool. Waitress said its a company policy… TMD.

Hot pot is always a good social eating occasion. What’s not to like when you get to share food and cook it with others?
There were eight of us and we had two burners going with pots of half spicy miso and half ginger chicken broth. We got plates of veg along with an order of pork and several of beef.
The positives were that the food was fresh and it was fun. Drawbacks, which is typically the case with any hot pot/​shabu shabu experience, is that you’re essentially just eating boiled food which is never really the most delicious thing out there (let’s be honest). You’re really coming for the experience.
The beef is very well marbled (positive!) which also makes for very greasy broth in the end (negative!). I would have liked some seafood options or possibly have just done vegetarian.
Also, can decide between pork or beef? Get whichever because it will all taste the same in the end!

YUMMM. Nothing I love more that soup on a cold day! We got the AYCE (which is pretty pricey). I think there were only 3 soup options that we could chose from, but I usually always go for the miso. One of the choices was clear broth which they said was just water. What a waste.
We got just about one plate of every meat, some udon and a lot of veggies and they were all good. My fave is the lamb as usual and the miso broth was good.
Overall, I liked this place, but it’s really pricey compared to other Shabu place.

This uuu-​sed to be my go to place for shabu, but after tonight’s lack of dinner, I don’t think I’ll be coming back. Granted, it’s a Friday night so I anticipated the long wait. However, the waitress failed to let the patrons who were waiting know that there were two huge parties coming in with reservations. Uhhh? If your restaurant is such a dinky ass place and you have two parties of 8 and 12, shouldn’t you let the patrons know that the wait will be extra long tonight? Instead the slow waitresses ignored everyone unless they’re seated. Worst service ever.

Shabu House was my first love (but I cheated and found One Pot Shabu in Cupertino).
This location is a lot smaller than the Burlingame location, but they get you seated pretty quickly. I believe they take reservations too. I had a friend that was a server here (not sure if she still works there) and she always made our experience delightful, fun.
My usual order consists of:
* Traditional water broth
* American Kobe beef
* Rice
* Large hot sake
It comes with a huge plate of vegetables, noodles, etc.
They have an AYCE for $ 32/​person and AYCE + Drink for $ 43/​person. I’ve never ordered that but I’d say it’s a pretty darn good deal.

High quality food and amazing service!
We went on a Saturday night for dinner so naturally the wait was around 45 minutes. But I was very impressed that the waitress offered to take down our phone number, to call us when our table was ready, so that we could go somewhere to fill in the time.
The restaurant has a very clean appearance and our table was spacious enough for all our food. My friends and I all got the buffet which in my opinion was very worth it! There’s only 3 choices of meat (beef, pork, lamb) but honestly that’s all you need because the meat was so fresh and melt-​in-​your-​mouth and too many options can be a bit much. The sauces were on point and you get ice cream for dessert! I do have to admit that the broth was kind of underwhelming (we got spicy miso) so if you were eating the meat without the sauce, it would taste bland.
The thing that really impressed me about this place was the service. Their were only 2 waitresses that night, attending to about 15 tables, but they always came by our table and asked if we needed anything. We rarely had to flag them down and they always got our orders right and didn’t miss a thing. They definitely went above and beyond to attend to us.
I love shabu and I’m really glad that I found this place. Will definitely be coming back here when I’m craving shabu again!

This was my #1 spot for shabu for over 2 years since this location is most closer than any other locations
So, I came here with my friend on a Tuesday night. Our pretty waitress didn’t even check up on us and they weren’t even that busy.
Even though we ordered all you can eat, since the waitress never came to our table until later, didn’t even get to ask for our second plates. Worst service ever.
We just got annoyed (No refilling waters, no refilling soup broths, No meats, No Vegetables. etc)
We just even decided to skip the deserts and just asked for our checks.
And we have found this out after our card was charged. She saw us writing our tips and she didn’t say thing. And I checked the back of the bill there was 15% tip.
They have charged us 15% auto tips without even telling us!!! And we are party of 2 people???
I normally tip about 20% or even more especially whenever I dine in my favorite spots I tip them more. Our waitress probably got higher tips anyways doesn’t matter now; If we didn’t check the bill, I probably have double tip them, BC our waitress didn’t say anything!!!
So glad that I checked!
Please check your receipts when you eat here BC auto tips could be anywhere up to 15% — 30%.
I probably won’t be coming back for awhile BC I feel like they were being dishonest about that 15% tips.
Plus, Doesn’t matter how many party size you have, they will just add tips without telling people.

Mhmmmm! My go-​to shabu place.
— Spruce up the hell out of your sauces (sesame/​peanut and ponzu) with green onions, garlic, daikon (?), sesame chili oil, pepper flakes, etc. My friends and I have been starting to put some of the sesame/​peanut sauce into the ponzu sauce! Delicious!
— You can have split pots! I always go for half spicy miso and half ginger chicken. There’s also «traditional water» or something like that, but noooo thank you lol
— 15% off your bill during happy hour (5−6pm).
— If you run out of sauce, feel free to ask for more
— I usually go for the kobe beef and always pick the red bean ice cream at the end =) (vs. green tea ice cream)
Staff are always super friendly, nice and accommodating! Parking is usually a breeze. The place is small so you may end up waiting for a bit. They accept reservations for 4+ people, so take advantage of that if that applies to you.

I love this place! The amount of meat they give you is amazing and definitely more than most places in LA! The marbling on the beef is surprising too :3
I love their spicy miso and doing half beef/​half pork. For around $ 20 a person, it’s such a good deal.
And I think it’s 15% off if you order before 6pm ^_^!

Not my favorite shabu place, not really my to go shabu place at all actually.
Spicy miso is so bland and tasted like spicy water… My boyfriend and I had to put ponzu sauce to mix it and add more flavor. I don’t know what’s the hype is all about. One pot shabu in Cupertino is wayyy better!
Service is good though they were fast and kept checking + star for that :)

I have been craving for Japanese shabu shabu, but the lack of options in Phoenix led to me wait until a visit to San Francisco. My expectations were high, especially since I previously had enjoyed the food in their Geary location. On this evening, my fiancée Santi and I were fortunate to beat the dinner crowd by arriving early. The clean, vertical interior included a narrow walkway that divided a long counter and good numbers of booths and tables stationed along the walls. The atmosphere on this particular evening was calm and quiet.
The regular size two meat combo Shabu Shabu ($ 20.49) arrived with our choice of spicy miso broth, meat, assorted veggies, udon, rice, and dessert. I ordered the lamb/​beef and for Santi the lamb/​pork combo that were thinly sliced with good fat and lean meat ratio. We also ordered a side of Kabocha Pumpkin ($ 3.50) and Enoki Mushroom ($ 4).
Portion size was excellent. The spicy miso broth tasted complex, smooth, and delicious once the meat and veggie flavors were well integrated. The meat were easy to cook and did not dry out quickly; and the number of veggie options were topnotch, including the side orders. In addition to the Kabucha Pumpkin and Enoki, I enjoyed the tofu, udon, spinach, and shitake mushrooms.
Our dinner also included a scoop of green tea and azuki ice cream. The flavors were striking and not just another filler to finish to meal. The sharp green tea flavor had an deepening effect, and the azuki ice cream tasted rich and concentrated. They were equally excellent.
Service was attentive and friendly. Our water was constantly refilled and our server occasionally came to check on the shabu pot. Overall, their prices, portion size, quality, and service were consistent with my experiences at their Geary location. I hope to visit their restaurants in Burlingame and Milpitas.
