The Crème Brûlée Cart

Seems like they are closed… and maybe it’s because they never appeared open to begin with. I walk by this place several times a day (and have been doing so since they ‘opened’) and have only seen their lights on a few times ever! Hard to get business that way :(

INSTEAD it’s an adorable tiny shop across the street from the Mission Bart station. It’s an incredibly simple shop, they have 5 – 6 different crème brûlée, you choose, pay, then enjoy!
I’ve tried their plain crème brûlée before and I’m a huge fan of the chocolate and vanilla :) Sooo deliciously decadent. Then I decided to be bold and try their special crème brûlée, The Kentucky. It had caramel bourbon caramel sauce, candied pecans, and a vanilla custard base. I loved every bite! So good but so little :(the cups are rather small and the prices are a bit steep. It’s $ 6 for a specialty crème brûlée, and although I loved it, not sure if I love the price/​quantity… but then again it’s SF and SF prices are ridiculous.

Are you on diet and want food that costs your wallet as much as it costs your diet? This might be the place for you!
Two of us each got one of their specialities. In total, it ran us nearly $ 20 after tax and tip. They were tasty, especially the bourbon sauce.
Unlike the name implies, this one is not a cart. However, it is a small space, and doesn’t have much seating. That wasn’t a problem during the quiet time we stopped in, and we were able to eat our desserts at the barstools by the window.
I don’t think I love crème brûlée enough to stop in again, but it was a fun place to check out once. I might bring a friend if they wanted something a little out of the ordinary for dessert.

When I first heard about this place, I really REALLY wanted to love it. You can just imagine, a little hole in the wall shop that specializes in unique crème brûlée flavors in the Mission. All the reviews I read set my expectations extremely high (and why shouldn’t they?).
The truth of the matter is that I’m really not fond of this place at all after my two visits.
It’s definitely not somewhere I would recommend. I was really expecting more for a specialty crème brûlée priced at about $ 7 – 8. It’s not college-​budget friendly. The flavor combinations are too overpowering and, yet at the same time, are bland and lack depth in flavor.

The price, $ 6 – 7 before tax for each, and a strong Unilocal rating created a feeling of great expecation. We felt the it was not worth the price and the tastes was below average for a crème brûlée dessert. The toppings was a very salty, dry, nothing special cookie crumble (they did not provide water even on request to clear the palate and the crème brûlée part had no taste. Note, a good standard for comparison of a well executed crème brûlée could found at Fringale sf or café rolle of sacramento.
Crème brûlée has very simple inexpensive ingredients, cream, eggs, sugar and vanilla as a recipe base. This shop just did not execute the dessert very well.
There are better desserts in the city for the price, paying sf sales tax and sf parking garage/​meter fees/​parking ticket. Also fighting for parking is stressful for some people and in that case there is additional incentive to pick a better dessert that is more worth your efforts.
Feel free to try this place out but the tastes are not that impressive especially if it is for a date or provide a tour for friends/​relatives.

Yum, Yum, Yum! I talked my friend into walking over here after dinner at Beretta and I am so glad that I did. I am such a fan of crème brûlée and this place did not disappoint. This is the brick and morter location for the actual Crème Brulee Cart that you can find around SF and at Off the Grid. This is a cute little location in the Mission near Bart. They only have a few seats, but the tiny crème brulees don’t take long to eat, so its not too bad.
My friend got the Sweet Southern Lady — Vanilla bean crème brûlée torched to perfection and topped with candied pecans and bourbon caramel drizzle while I got the The Golden Ticket — Salted caramel crème brûlée torched to perfection and topped with dark chocolate shortbread crumble and sea-​salted caramel sauce. Both were delicious but I have to say, mine was better!!!

The first time I had this was a couple of years back when he was at off the grid. He didn’t have these shops set in place yet… so luckily not a lot of people knew about him. It was quick, convenient, and tasty.
When I heard he had a of the location set up, I was even more happy so we didn’t have to use Twitter to hunt him down. My girl loves crème brûlée, so anytime we are in the city, we always have to stop by and get a treat. We like the vanilla a lot, and last time tried the s’mores. It was good, and a nice change since we always get vanilla.
Whenever we crave something sweet, crème brûlée cart is the place we go. Don’t forget to ask for a side of hi five before u go!

A place that has designated their full amount of creativity and culinary skill and art to burnt crème? Yes please!
I tried the SF Gold. Pure. Heaven. You get a taste of their traditional vanilla bean crème brûlée, but it’s accelerated to a whole other level with a topping of house made dark chocolate shortbread crumble and sea-​salt caramel. It has just the right amount of salty to sweet, a play of textures with smooth and buttery cream, a torched and crispy top, and crumbly shortbread. Plus a lovely balance between chocolate, salty caramel, and vanilla. It’s all there.
So much concentrated delight packed into one small little cup, which does cost you a whopping $ 6. But you definitely enjoy what you get and feel satisfied after. Cherish those few bites! This truck does crème brûlée well, and their unique twists on the traditional dessert are out of this world.

A store dedicated exclusively to Crème Brulee? That sounds promising!
The menu is short, sweet (get it? sweet? har har har) and definitely geared towards the health-​unconcious, like myself. There’s the Classics, which is just flavoured crème brulees, like Vanilla Bean, Salted Caramel and Dark Chocolate. Then there’s the fancy side, which adds in toppings like short bread crumble and sea salt caramel sauce for creations like SF Gold, or topped with candied peaches like Sweet Southern Lady. Having just finished some frozen custard, my BF and I kept it simple, and got the salted caramel crème brûlée ($ 4ish)
The crème was immediately «brulee-​d» in front of us, and was served in a little aluminum cup. We dug in immediately, and while the top was nice and crunchy, I felt the insides were too runny to be a crème brûlée. My expectation was something more firm, like a custard, but this was straight up cream! The salted caramel flavour was yummy, but the texture just threw me off.
Overall, it’s just ok. Crème brûlée is crème brûlée, you know? It’s a cute date place, or for those people who love LOVE LOVEEEE crème brûlée and want to see it fancified, but for a broader dessert lover like myself, it was just fine!

I was pretty underwhelmed by this place. I had some chocolate crème brûlée thing and it was only just okay. I’ve certainly had better.

I ordered the SF Gold which is the crème brûlée with dark chocolate shortbread crumble and caramel sauce. It was delicious and very quick. I could probably eat a whole bunch of these in one sitting, which is a testament to how tasty they are. It’s a little pricy, but worth it if you are crème brûlée fan.

I was walking towards the BART Station at night and I noticed a bright lit store with the door open. I didn’t see anyone inside but I came closer, and saw read «The Crème Brulee Cart» :O :D. I came inside and asked if anyone was here and if they were open and a woman popped out.
I asked for what they recommended and she said the original vanilla. She took out the pudding/​custard and started torching the thing. I sat down, and 30 seconds later I was done. That shit was good! I’ll definitely be back soon.

Crème brûlée was out of this world. I order the S’moresgasm. Chocolate, marshmallows torched to perfection. Golden Grahams (as in old skool cereal) loaded on top, finished off with chocolate syrup and caramel sauce.
It was just the right amount or sweet and richness from the it all.
It just worked.
The guy who hooked it up was sweet and service with a smile. Beyonce was playin in the background and it was just a great way to end my afternoon.

Experienced the gratifying sound and feel of cracking the outer layer of their fresh, thick crème brûlée with cookie crumble on top at the SF Street Food Festival this weekend.
Although I see it all the time in rotation at Off The Grid and pass it up, my boyfriend decided to give it a try. Borderline addicting if you happen to be around their carts scattered around San Francisco.

Got the smoresgasm and –gasm twas.
Just the perfect hint of the smokey marshmallowness combined with the right amount of chocolate. Woweee. Get in my mouth please. Definitely a crème brûlée to remember!

Got the Grand Marnier crème brûlée with a berry compote, bourbon whipped cream, nutella cornflakes, and more.
They had a special going on where the toppings were free!
The crème brûlée itself was very tasty. i kinda wish i didn’t put the berry compote on it so that i could enjoy the crème brûlée itself more. the compote was a bit overpowering, but it was still very delicious. i wish they put more whipped cream on but they had run out that day.

Dunno why a place called «The Crème Brûlée Cart» has a storefront, but I can’t complain when there are no lines.
I’ve gone to their cart-​cart a few times over in The Castro, so it was good to see that the storefront is just as good. Kinda small portions for $ 5, but man are they ever good. Try the strawberry Nutella!
Also, make sure to come at the right time. They have some odd hours starting on Wednesday.

I frequent this cart pretty often when I see it wherever the cart/​truck is stationed but it took me a while to get around to going into the actual shop.
The shop itself is cute and small and the displays and menu are basically the same. The one guy working at the time was very nice and let us know that all of their toppings would be free for the rest of the month (I went maybe a week before the end of June 2014). This included toppings on all of their specialty ones.
I got the Kentucky. Normally loaded with candied pecans, bourbon butterscotch sauce but I added peaches to it. Because all toppings were free, I got it for $ 4 – the base price of a Vanilla Bean crème brûlée.
Anyway it was creamy, great combo of flavors (kinda like a cobbler) but a little bit eggy at the end. Delicious!

I really wanted to like The CB Cart. I really did.
Traditional crème brûlée with no frills… really has no frills. The custard was adequately creamy; however, there was no detectable hint of vanilla flavouring, nor any element of sweetness to the custard. The chocolate cb, on the other hand, was sweet enough to send your head spinning (and not in the good way).
Despite the lackluster cb, the blowtorch artist was friendly and very sweet, and THERE WAS A PINBALL MACHINE. That alone deserves an a-​ok rating in my book.

I was so excited to see a crème brûlée shop right around the corner from where we were staying in SF! Food trucks are fun, but it’s nice to have a permanent location where you know the crème brûlée will be when you need it.
I had the «Yes Please» Nutella flavor with strawberry pieces and my boyfriend had the plain crème brûlée. They keep the foil tins in a cold case and fire the tops in front of you when you order, so you get a nice hard sugary shell to shatter. The Nutella flavor was very rich, creamy, and flavorful, and the strawberries added a nice fruity accent without being overwhelming (they’re mixed into the dessert, not a topping). The plain crème brûlée was a little bland and puddingy, and not nearly as interesting. Definitely needed toppings or… something.
The store is pretty tiny and has just one or two tables, although they did manage to cram a pinball machine in there (maybe a couple more tables would have been more useful). The prices seem a bit high for what you get, but customized crème brûlée whenever you want it is probably worth it.

My goal today was to pay you guys a visit! Mission accomplished!
I have been wanting to come here since you announced «Grand Opening» on Facebook I think a couple of months ago. This is indeed my very FIRST store besides visiting your Carts and trucks throughout the city. You guys continue to do great things especially with your creative toppings. Just today, I had the honor of meeting your awesome Chef (I’m sorry I did not get her name) — enticed me and prepared a flavor she was passionate with (just for me). I asked her «what do you call it?» She said, there was no name attached to it because she just created it. How awesome is that!
I would have to say your Vanilla continues to be my favorite (add toppings of course) along with the Nutella. But you guys already know everything here is excellent. Service is excellent. Store is excellent (beautifully decorated) reminds me of Cape Cod ambiance. I like the «write your thought» blackboard. Ingenious!
Folks — you know how good Crème Brulee is with their carts and trucks, now you can have them anytime in the afternoon until late here and have a comfy chair, a pinball machine, and a good conversation with the Crème Brulee Chefs!
