I have specific shops on Haight that I go to for specific things when it comes to vintage. I go to static when I’m looking for the best tee’s or jewelry. I’ve found some really unique and believed pieces in my collection at Static. I also found some purple leather boots in my size there which was unreal but ever since it’s been back to size 6 only. Definitely stop by here on your wait through Haight.

I had an unfortunate experience earlier today in this store. I had come in to sell vintage jackets. I had roughly 25 coats, from the 50’s through the 70’s. Beautiful items that would eventually be the right era to be purchased, even if it wasn’t this winter, including a black mink, and a few with real fur trim, and a few leather. All in perfect condition, having been stored in a cedar vanity since at least the 80’s.
As I walked through the door, the woman who was working behind the counter said in a rude manner, «We don’t buy on Thursday or Friday.»
Now, I had walked for blocks with these very heavy coats, and was actually really tired. I walk a lot, but still! Carrying jackets like these is work! Her words cut my entry into the store-​and therefore any further business-​so quickly that I really had no choice but to go back outside. She must have then realized how rude she had been, because she offered me a business card as I turned and went back out. I did not take the card.
In retrospect, I was wearing a beanie. And black jeans. Did she think I was a lowly street kid? I am not. A longtime resident, with a job, with nice items to sell, from my step mother’s mom’s storage. I’m sorry I didn’t know you weren’t buying, but when I was in customer service, we would say things like: «Aw, I’m sorry! We’re not buying today. Let me take a look at those items and see if we would be interested in you coming back to sell on a day we are buying», or «I’m sorry we’re not buying, but would you like to sit and rest since you look exhausted from carrying those!»
I will not be coming back to this store to sell these items, nor will I be coming back to buy anything else here in the future. Attitude and judgment from employees is not something I put up with when supporting local business.

Obsessed with this store! Walked in today for the first time and found a vintage mod style 70s dress and cowboy boots. I will come back in a few weeks to see if anything new comes in. If you love vintage stop in! What a great shop!

How come so few reviews for possibly the best vintage store in San Francisco? Seriously, what is up with that? Static is a must stop in kind of store.
So, I know vintage and thrift. Been all over the U.S. and parts of Europe. First thing I do? Find the vintage stores and flea markets where ever I am. We have some good ones in San Francisco, but this is one of my favorites.
Static is top notch. Reasonably priced. Clean and super well organized and with quality used and vintage clothing. I will pay a few dollars more for things on hangars and a little organization.
Sales people are nice and helpful. Check your back pack and or large bag, ditch the Ben and Jerry’s cup and go back in time to when people knew how to dress. Not a pair of leggings, yoga pants (don’t know why they are called ‘yoga pants’; no one I see wearing them is doing yoga or looks like they do it) to be found!

ALWAYS a beautiful find at this store. i’ve been a loyal customer for 10 years and love their stock.
great vintage without the huge price tag. i could spend hours at this store.

It is hard to deal with some of the transits from the street-​I personally would be worn down .
I have sold my precious vintage to the store. Feel like I am OK with the money I am getting.

Leann was great! She was so awesome and answered all of our questions about the vintage designer small leather goods & bags we were interested in. I got a Gucci bucket bag and my friends bought some treasures as well. We’re stoked! Can’t wait to go back to SF to see Leann at Static again!

I’ve shopped at this store for years and I always have the same negative experience with who I believe to be the owner. The red head who seems to hate me every time I enter. Although I usually spend around $ 100 every time i go she is still very rude and standoffish. Maybe it’s me. Today I shoulda walked out after she was in the process of ringing me up without speaking or looking at me. Instead of standing in front of her I handed her my credit card I walked over to the case with belts where my boyfriend was admiring some of her nice merchandise. I have had terrible allergies for the last week and a half and I took out a tissue to blow my runny nose. Before I could even get back to the owner to sign the credit card slip she hustled over to a dispenser of hand sanitizer to make sure she was free of my germs while complaining to the other associate that the man who had just left may or may not have stolen something from her. I was completely dumbfounded that she would act this way in the middle of a transaction. I am in sales and work directly with the public and would never act this way durning a transaction. Certainly acceptable after the customer has departed my retail establishment but not while in the middle of a transaction.
Perhaps she should vanish from working directly with the public and hire some pleasant employees who know how to treat potential customers.

They have okay stuff and on top of that the workers weren’t that nice either. My sister found one shirt that was nice in the past and that’s about it.
I prefer going to Goodwill. It’s not ridiculously priced and the workers have always been sweet in the past.

I love to browse on the weekends, but a tip is that on the weekdays it is much less crowded with *cough* tourists .
Static has vintage Gucci, Louis, Chanel, Versace, Hermes. You name it you can probably find it one time or another.
I have purchased a great vintage pair of Chanel flats, GORGEOUS, pink metallic cap toe, and pink lambskin leather for only 120 $. In reality, they are priceless but that’s just my opinion.
My cousin (who I often shop here with) found a vintage versace jacket with fabulous cheetah print interior. Super rare & awesome!
I think it’s safe to say Static is my favorite vintage store on Haight.

Shopping in the Haight ia not my idea of fun, however I get a itch now and again to buy vintage goodies from vintage store’s rather than always hunt.
I always find fab ladies clothes and the lovely Gal Who is always there really knows her era’s.Its such a pleasure seeing her perky face .miss Leanne is a true Gem… Thank you.
the downside of this store is they have a very poor mediocre men’s selection of 40’s 50’s and 60’s for classic american styles. my boyfriend rarely finds the cute old school styles.

I have mixed feelings about this cute, small vintage shop. It’s great for a lot of things reviewers here are praising it for. Older Gucci, LV, Chanel. They also have awesome leather belts and quality old bags for fair prices.
I’m writing mostly from the perspective of a fanboy of true vintage American workwear /​motogear /​heritage pieces — think denim, leather jackets, engineer boots, horsehide.
I was initially excited when I first discovered this place a year ago. I quietly popped in every few days to check out their offerings. Over time, I began to wonder why everything on offer was kinda neat but essentially mediocre, why nothing really good from the 40s — 60s every showed up. Not a single truly cool pair of vintage boots or a great leather jacket. Even if priced high, in $ 350 — $ 750 range, I would have liked to see, and perhaps buy, something inspiring — something truly representative of the best that American mid-​century clothing manufacturers had to offer.
The stuff is «out there» to be found. The owners were clearly sourcing from the right places. Were the good pieces just flying off the shelves as soon as they were offered? Was I was just missing them? Perhaps I needed to work on my timing.
Well, the other day my timing was good enough to learn this fact: the hope to find good pieces (defined for the purposes of this review as the type of stuff I listed above) at Static was a totally lost cause. Why? The crème-​de-​le-​crème never reaches the floor of Static; it’s diverted to Japanese wholesalers.
This isn’t surprising. Static is a business and selling the good stuff to Japan is, for many reasons, a most profitable move. But it certainly is a bummer for someone like me: a San Franciscan (a naïve one, it turns out) with a passion for great Cone denim, vintage horsehide jackets, and early American footwear — and the financial resources to pay for it when I come across the right thing.
Which is becoming very rare.
My enlightenment occurred as I prepared to end yet another fruitless fifteen minutes of looking at 80s — 90s boots (Frye and modern Chippewa) and orange tab levis. I was collecting my bag at the counter when I noticed the sales rep. polishing up an intriguing pair of early cap-​toe leather lace-​up boots that were by far the most interesting thing in the store.
«Nice boots. Did they just come in?» I ask.
«Yes. But these are for our private clients.»
«Private clients?»
«Yeah. A lot of our best stuff is offered privately to Japanese wholesalers. They’re typically willing to pay more than the public.»
I contemplated this straightforward summary of their business model.
«Can I try them on?» I asked.
«No, sorry.»
«Ouch.»
“Sorry.“
She smiled sympathetically as I stood looking over the counter at those nice leather American made cap-​toes. They were four feet from me, I was interested, and I had both cash in pocket and a handsome line of credit. Yet the boots were out of reach.
I considered asking if their Japanese clients knew she polished their boots with Vaseline, which is what she was doing. I was feeling pissy. The realization (what others have probably long ago realized) that five or ten years from now I will have to go to Japan to buy those very same American-​made boots, or any boots like them, left me deflated.
I thought about pushing harder to try on the boots, but I collected my bag, said goodbye, and gave the boots a pass. From now on I’ll give Static a pass, too. I don’t hold anything against them and I’m the first to admit that if I was in their business (I’m not) then I would do the same thing. If Levi’s can sell all their old shuttle looms to Japan (like they did), and if Japan values our material American heritage more than Americans do, then, as a believer in the free market, I agree that Static’s best stuff should go to Japan.
The question for someone like me with respect to a store like Static is simply:
Why hunt where there’s no hope of finding (or buying) treasure?

Found a wonderful workwear jacket from the 50’s for an excellent price. Leanne was wonderful.

Static is a wonderful little vintage store on haight! They carry some amazing designer pieces from brands such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Givenchy, Tracy Reese, Betsey Johnson, Prada, Fendi and many more! There selection of vintage luggage and handbags are amazing. They have a wide variety of clothes from casual to dressy, so if your searching for a plaid shirt or a beautiful dress for a cocktail, you’ll be in luck. Me and a friend found gorgeous dresses for the Annual Gorgeous and Green Gala! Mine was a beaded Tracy Reese dress and hers was a vintage fringe asymmetrical dress! Will be back for more, this store is a great thing! XOXO

Static is my treasure trove. I know when I walk in I will always find something so I limit my visits to when I have some money to burn.
I always feel welcomed and have great conversations about pieces in the store that I’m about to purchase or interested in learning more about.

Some of the stuff in here is ridiculously over priced but a lot of it are fun hidden gems that are priced just right. Found an old Zepplin tour shirt here which I was way excited about along with a cute vintage 50s purse. The ladies who work here are super nice too. Definitely stop in if you’re in the area.
Was confused though because one woman said they have a website where they generally sell the more expensive stuff on, but there are no items on the website, just information about the store

In terms of quality, selection and price, this is among the best if not THE best vintage clothing store on Haight. The clothing is not as well curated as Relic or La Rosa, but it’s usually far cheaper. In recent years I feel like the selection has improved, though the prices have increased along with it, but it’s still manageable. They’ve got anything from vintage rock t-​shirts to pretty little 50’s cocktail dresses and everything in between. I’ve found some great bargains here.
I don’t like that they keep the fitting rooms locked and you have to find a sales person to unlock them, particularly when you’re walking in and out of the dressing room to fetch something from the rack or to ask a friends opinion and the door closes behind you and you have to call them over again. I also feel like the pricing here can be sort of all over the place, but I think that has something to do with the fact that the stock is owned by several different sellers who are in charge of setting their own pricing.
All in all, definitely worth a visit!

Hmmmmm okay so I randomly visited this place a couple of months ago and was surprised that they actually had nice vintage designer purses. The employee was extremely nice and was SO patient which is a huge plus! I saw a cute vintage Gucci shoulder bag that I fell absolutely in love with and at $ 30, I was seriously contemplating on buying it. After examining the purse, I realized that there was no tag or serial number so I asked the employee if it was authentic and she said yes. Since I was on the fence about the purse, she asked her boss if they could give me a discount and he discounted it! Then I thought «why on earth would you discount a perfectly fine vintage Gucci purse if it wasn’t fake?» After doing my research, I decided to skip on the purse and I’m glad I did.
Sure, it may seem as if they have a nice selection of authentic purses, but you should be careful and really examine the purse to make sure that your hard earned money isn’t going to waste!

This truly is one of the most magical stores in the Haight. It’s not as big as Wasteland or Held Over, but it is just oh so legit. I never feel overwhelmed in here, there’s never a wait for the dressing room, the music’s always good, and they regularly rotate out their selection of goods.
Since just turning 30 — I’ve compiled and now am crossing off of — a «Now That I’m 30… More Red Lipstick» list and part of that list involves wearing more girly girl dresses. Static has got me covered — and then some — with their narrow waisted feminine Gunnny Sax dresses — that cinch and push up — in all the right places. Also I love that the staff here — actually give you feedback as you try stuff on. It’s small enough that they can provide more one on one attention — rather than the more overwhelming other spots on Haight Street.
Turning 30 feels good –when you have places like Static to help you wrangle the year in with style.

This review is based solely on their clothing because its one of the first things I look at when deciding whether I want to stay in a particular store or GTFO! All I really have to say about it is that it’s overpriced. The staff were friendly! The store was organized and as clean as the vintage stores in that area can be… however, I must admit, I’m not a true fan of vintage… I’m more of a thrifter of newer goods… and this store helped me realize that.
As the other reviewers have suggested, you may want to take a look at their handbags. They are a good price for what they are, but a bit too expensive for a bargain hunter like me.
Overall, it’s not worth it for me to come back but you might want to go yourself if you’re into the whole vintage scene!
