I went eat sushi on Sunday man I waited one hour to get my damn sushi. Damn sushi boy keep talking with his friends. Let me tell u this: If u are making sushi whatever don’t talk your saliva spreading everywhere. Seems like they are short staff but he shouldn’t be talking his friends seriously. Disrespectful.

Seems like service is really slow. I had to ask for my status of my take order twice. It was only three sushi rolls after waiting 30 minutes and it wasn’t as if it was busy. Not a good way to get customers to return. Got my sushi and It literally was just average. Not impressed. They didn’t even apologize nor didn’t offer me tea as I waited.

Preface: I used to live in Japan. Meal ordered: Dinner Box #4 Cleanliness of the restaurant: 5⁄5 Service: 5⁄5 — fast, polite, gave an accurate measure of how long it would take for the food to be prepared. To-go packaging: 5⁄5 Sushi: 5⁄5 — spicy tuna roll Tempura: 5⁄5 good variety, crisp, though the dipping sauce was not that great(it was essentially watered down soy sauce). Yellow Tail: 4⁄5 a little overcooked(it was not marinaded, glazed, or seasoned). Croquette: 0⁄5 It was runny liquefied mashed potato mix that doesn’t come close to actual croquettes, it was inedible(–1 star). Plus, they did not serve it with katsu sauce, rather some unidentifiable brown sauce with chunks of fat floating at the top. Salad: 2⁄5 fresh, but they use iceberg lettuce, I may as well drink a glass of water. Miso soup: 2⁄5 tastes like a shiro/aka blend, leaning more towards the shiro. The flavor tasted like the packets you buy from the store as opposed to homemade miso. The total for the Dinner Box($ 21) and the croquette was $ 29.95 after tax. As far as the contents of the Dinner Box itself(purely objectively), the price is pretty average. As a whole, I was not particularly impressed with the food. They have a stereotypical menu and the quality is clearly hit or miss depending upon the dish. I feel like they cut *some* corners because this is SF and people here do not know what un-Americanized Japanese food tastes like(–1). Croquettes are one of my favorite sides to order at a Japanese restaurant(yes I am aware that this is not a Japanese dish, rather a French one) because the Japanese style of making croquettes is positively delicious! So when I got home and had a bite of one of the croquettes and had to question if they actually served me croquettes… I was rather irked to say the least. If I return it will be for the sushi and the superior service only because the spicy tuna roll I had was *very* good and the wait staff was really awesome!

Absolutely love the food here. Service is really good and the food are on top and what I expected them to be. Parking is really convenient as well. I love their dinner menu with the combo dinner plate along with the baked scallop roll… Definitely a must try! And definitely coming back here. If you guys love Japanese food this is the place to come by and eat at.

If you are expecting high end sushi this is not it. If you are expecting low end sushi this is not it. It is just a relatively quiet place, with some creative rolls, and a decent ambiance. If you are in a rush I wouldn’t go, but if you are in the neighborhood and have some time stop by.

I went to Fuji with my boyfriend. We sometimes come to west portal and never saw this place. At first, I saw this place from Unilocal and they got tree and a half star, my boyfriend didn’t need to try but I asked him. We ordered lunch special and sushi. It’s so good. It better than some 4 – 5 star Japanese restaurant Unilocal review. The waitress is so nice. The food came slow but good quality. We will come to visit here next time.

Came here many times with friends. I’m always happy to come to fuji. Every roll and dish is really good. Strongly recommend their deluxe sashimi. The deco is pretty and fish is really fresh, definitely high quality. Wait steff was very attentive and friendly. She answers all questions about menu, sake and different types of sashimi. It was very helpful. Definitely come back here as usual!!!

We met my mother-in-law at this restaurant for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. When we get there my mother-in-law is standing outside and tells us «they don’t serve lunch.» I look at the neon sign that says Open. I peek inside and see sushi chefs and one table of customers eating. Uhm, they serve food right? We decide to go in and after 5 minutes, a grumpy waitress emerges from the back. She motions for us to sit down. I look at the menu and one section says«Lunch Specials» which are not available on Sundays so I figure there is just some miscommunication. Ok fine. The waitress comes to take our order and I say, «chicken teriyaki and tempura bento» as I gesture to a lunch bento(not in lunch specials). She says«no we don’t serve lunch.» Oh, no bentos? No lunch. Huh? She tells me you can only order from the dinner menu. Same items just larger and more expensive portions. Fine, dinner bento. I am already seated. Another couple comes in and requests a table for 6. The waitress tells them, «no table for 6»(The whole restaurant is empty around us). They asked if she could put two tables together and the waitress says no so the couple leaves. This waitress could care less. Fuji needs to do themselves a favor and hire new waitstaff. The food was fine.

1. Be prepared for LONG wait times for your sushi. If you are hungry, get ready to STARVE. 2. Below average rolls and highly priced compared to SF average. Expected in West Portal I suppose. 3.Three typical rolls at dinner will run you close to 45+$ dollars all said and done.

The restaurant had a very long wait time for the preparation of food(maybe because they wanted every dish on the table at once), but I was really hungry at the time, so lacked some patience. The waiters are nice, but I guess they have a really hard time seeing if the customers wanted something or is ready to order because I waited quite a while before my order was finally taken. The food is quite pricy, but it comes in a big portion and, I guess, flavor-wise it was worth the wait.

Had a craving for sashimi and sake after work one day so met up a friend at this local spot. Hostess was polite and asked if we wanted to be seated at the bar or table. We opted for the bar because we could watch the chef prepare our order. We ordered a variety of sashimi and started off with some sake and appetizers. Didn’t have to wait long before we got our food and the presentation was amazing. It was a work of art and more importantly the sashimi was fresh. They were large generous cuts compared to other places. My favorite was probably the lobster sashimi. You eat with your eyes first and they definitely had me there. We ended staying pretty long drinking sake afterwards. The wait staff was on point making sure we had everything we needed. Not sure why some of the reviews are low on this place but this place definitely is thumbs up.

Really great presentation. Beautiful Sushi. I didn’t get the feeling it wasn’t clean inside… Our server was super nice and attentive. For appetizer I hot the Hawaiian Poke. It was good. Not the most flavorful tuna I’ve ever had but was till a tasty treat. Nice sauces. We got the Bagel Roll, Tanzania Roll, Samurai Roll, and the Dinosaur Foot. All were beautiful. And all tasted good. The dinosaur roll was super complex — maybe too complex? But still tasty. Definitely didn’t need to add ginger or wasabi. It was hard to eat though — I had to use my hands! All the others were good. Tasted fresh. The only real problem is they were out of the Torpedo IPA on tap, which was sad, cause there was really no other micro brew choice. Oh well.

The Cherry Blossom roll I got, had so much rice and rolled with tasteless and OLD tuna fish. Salmon was chewy and with layer of fat. Generally when you smell the fish on your plate it is a big NONO, I could smell the fish the moment plate landed on y table. I literally took two bites and left my food at the restaurants. Waiter was nice but not professional enough to ask me why I left my plate full of food!!! My other order was veggie gyoza and it was good. I would also question cleanliness at Fuji’s. The tables are sticky and the chairs are sticky & dirty. Seriously, this place hasn’t been cleaned or maintained well. Food is mediocre at best. I don’t consider myself a picky eater but this restaurant is now off the list.

Three of my friends and I came to Fuji for dinner at around 6 on a Saturday. The first floor was packed except for one table that would later be the place where my friends and I would be eating. We were greeted with a very unenthusiastic, irrashaimase, or welcome in English. Our order was taking by a rather unhappy looking Asian woman with black hair. She appeared grumpy and unhappy with serving the customers. This is definitely a bad note to start a meal off with if you ask me, however we later had an Asian male who gave us our meal who was very nice and friendly. We soon received our edamame and seaweed salad which tastes good, however we soon noticed that the whole floor was being served by only two people. We waited about 25 minutes and received our food. I had ordered tonkatsu which is a port cutlet. It tasted very good and was displayed nicely. It came with a bowl of rice and miso soup which went very nicely with the tonkatsu. My friend’s meals were also tasty and worth the money. My friends and I soon came to notice that there were a agglomeration of people just packed into the very confined spaces of the waiting area. It was rather odd seeing such a huge amount of people packed into such a small space. If you may not already know, Fuji has two floors, despite the huge amount of possible customers, we assumed that they weren’t opening the 2nd floor because of the lack of servers and the effort required to travel up and down the stairs, the second waiter, a nicer Asian male, was already sweating when he came to bring us an extra spoon. The owner, later came to help serving, she was much kinder than the other server, most likely because it was her own business. She must have realized how understaffed the restraunt was, so she came out to try to lower the work for everyone. For the future, I would recommend for this restraunt to definitely higher more servers and to get people who are actually kind to their customers. In the end, the food was good, however the service was not really great and the people just watching you while you eat was a little odd. Tl;dr Food is good, service is not the best, appears to be understaffed

This. Place. Sucks. A «good safety» warning popped up when I Unilocaled it, wish I’d seen it sooner. One waitress who is CONSTANTLY overwhelmed. Took forever to get my order taken, even longer to get it served, and she served several tables that had been seated after me. Horribly unprofessional. Don’t waste your time.

Took over an hr to be ready. started out ordering to go. was told it’d be done in 20 mins. went and got a drink at a nearby bar. went over a little late just to b sure it was ready. not only was it not ready, but they hadn’t even started making yet! we stood and waited. we were even initially ignored by the first host/waiter.

The food is good. Suggest the liger roll. But service is way too long I waited 45 minutes for one roll and this was lunch time and it wasn’t even busy. The chefs u can see making sushi there’s two and they just kind of take their time and talk to each other. iv always waited over 30 minutes here to get one to two sushi rolls. its wayyyy too long. But the liger roll is delicious

This meal was so disappointing. Fuji is within walking distance of our new house so we were so hopeful that it would be as amazing as the reviews indicate. It was pretty busy when we arrived, but we were able to snag the last available table. After that, everything went downhill. It took us forever to be greeted by our server, then to have our order taken and our order took even longer. As for the rolls, the only one we liked had such heavy cream on it that we had to scrape most of it off. As for the others, one of the sauces made it completely inedible and scraping the sauce off didn’t change that. On top of everything, things tasted pretty fishy. Maybe it will be better if we try it again, but not sure when we’ll feel like doing so.

My favorite sushi joint :) I discovered shiso leaves here and I love the aroma! Not many places incorporate shiso leaf in their rolls. Fresh fish Hot sake Excellent service Cozy spot to unwind with friends Reasonable price What more can you ask for? It’s a staple in my food book.

I kept going back and forth with whether my rating would be a five, four, three or two star rating. I finally decided on a three overall. Five stars for the food; I usually order the chicken teriyaki which is delicious and a generous portion. I’ve ordered Tempura as well, but you have to order shrimp tempura or you get mostly vegetable tempura which I just don’t care for, with maybe two shrimp. I’m not really big on the whole raw fish thing but I have tried sushi and other rolls from the plates of others and are usually quite good for what it is. I would give the service a three star rating but that’s usually the case with most restaurants though. I would give the seating a three if it’s not crowded and they seat us downstairs, and a two star rating if they seat us upstairs. It’s funny that I saw the ‘poor safety alert’ before I wrote my review because the place does always seem to be rather dirty and as someone with major OCD, I always notice that! The tables don’t seem wiped down well enough before you are seated, sometimes there is dried food on the utensils and plates don’t seem washed perfectly. I used the bathroom there once and kind of lost my appetite for desert. and god knows what goes on in the kitchen! probably the bigger reason for the low rating by the department of public health or whoever scored them so low. I am not a foody or a connoisseur of fine dining and this is the japanese restaurant in our neighborhood we always go to. It’s the japanese restaurant.

Worst service ever. I was here again about a month ago and it still makes me mad thinking about how shitty the service was. It took like 30 minutes for me to get my food. Guess what I ordered. … … One spicy tuna hand roll. You don’t even need to cook it and it took freakin FOREVER!!! my boyfriend got his salmon sashimi dinner set before I did and had to stare at his food for awhile while I was waiting for my food. I asked a waitress cuz I was getting angry and that’s asking a lot from me since I’m usually nonconfrontational. And after I asked about it she brought it out. «Finally» I muttered underneath my breath while rolling my eyes. Water was never refilled as per my previous review. Food was great as always. Actually this is my bfs favorite sushi spot quality wise but now I shoot it down whenever he suggests it. SORRY.

Fuji’s needs a lot of help. I will break it down as follows: Service: The young server could care less she seated us a dirty table without menus. We did not feel welcomed by any means. Finally, I got up & went behind the counter and grabbed the menus. She got the hint, and finally came to our table with a dirty gray rag and swirled around the food crumbs on the table. Leaving us with the gross aroma of a filthy damp fungus smelling at our table. Cleanliness: Fuji’s is simply dirty! The tables are sticky and the chairs are sticky & dirty. The walls(next to the table) are filthy! Greasy and dry food stuck on the walls. The floors are dirty with napkins and food on the floor. Windows are equally flithy! Seriously, this place hasn’t been cleaned or maintained well. Food: Mediocre at best. Plus: Sushi and Sashimi just ok — overpriced. Tempura is greasy and vegetables are over-cooked and soggy. Goza lacked flavor and greasy. Chicken terriyaki: Chicken was fatty and the teriyaki lacked substance — almost watered down and certainly not enough on the chicken. So very weak. Bottomline: All of the above, give us many reasons to pause and wondered why would we ever recommend Fiji’s or ever return for a meal.

Delicious Japanese restaurant, but a little pricier, and prepare to wait for your food! Favorite items were: Korean style Chirashi: nom nom nom! Korean style basically means the fish is chopped up smaller and it came with a ton of lettuce. I liked this, as it was sort of a combo sashimi salad/chirashi, but my BF did not like that the fish was cut up into small pieces. Pass on the spicy sauce — use Wasabi! Fried baby octopus appetizer: the baby octopus are a little salty, but great flavor! Came with salad to balance out the oilines of the octopus Double hamachi roll — hamachi on the inside… hamachi on the outside! No seaweed in this roll, which made it easier to eat. Creamy avocado and sweet sauce was super flavorful as well The OK: Finding nemo roll — spicy tuna no the inside, salmon and avocado on the outside. decent, but not my favorite! Again — it takes them a while to serve you here. They seemed to have a TON of togo orders, with only 2 waitresses and 2 sushi chefs. It wasn’t too crowded… but it seemed that every aspect of service dragged on. Come here if you don’t mind the wait!

I’ve been to this place numerous times and I still find myself craving it all the time. The waitress here are attentive and sweet. They have a wide variety of fresh sushi sashimi daily. I love Uni and their Uni here is so yummy. I would highly recommend trying the black cod and their Kumamoto oysters and their baked mussels as well. You already know you will be seeing me again!

Came across this sushi restaurant after an appointment and just walked in for dinner. I have to say this is one of the«sushit» restaurants and the worst I have had so far. Why so bad if you ask? We ordered the Lion King roll, a bowl of Ramen and another roll(can’t remember the name exactly, it is the pinkish roll). First of all, I asked our waitress if the Ramen broth is Tonkatsu and she said yes because I wanted a Tonkatsu ramen so I ordered it. The Ramen broth was by no means a Tonkatsu broth when it arrived. It was very plain, cleared, and lack of any flavor broth. Our waitress worked at a Japanese restaurant and didn’t even understand what a Tonkatsu broth was! I won’t even call that a bowl of ramen, but just a regular noodle soup with boring veggies and broth. Our Lion King roll was so miserably layered by a deep sea of thick mayonnaise on the top. I usually like mayonnaise on a sandwich and sushi as well, but seriously put a ton on sushi was pretty bad. The pinkish roll had so much rice and rolled with tasteless fish was also a mistake. We literally took two bites and left our foods at the restaurants and hungry still. I don’t consider myself a picky eater but this restaurant was off the list. At the end, our bill was about $ 50 and all went to waste.

Fuji is a small, cozy Japanese restaurant. If you’re here for good sushi, try some of the special rolls, including Finding Nemo and the Firecracker. Between my friend and me, we were full after four rolls(Finding Nemo, Firecracker, Futo Maki, Baked Scallop). We both felt the baked scallop was generous with the scallops but way too heavy on the creamy sauce(is it mayo?), which overwhelmed the natural taste of the scallops and sushi itself. We loved the Firecracker, which was lightly fried with tempura batter and had delicious salmon inside. If the Firecracker was too guilty and calorific for you, then the Finding Nemo roll will cleanse your palate with its fresh salmon taste. The waiters were especially attentive and nice, so two thumbs up for good customer service.

Too bad this place wasn’t closer to home as we need a great Japanese restaurant in my city! I have been here several times with a family friend for lunch but this is the first time I’ve been here for dinner with friends. My friend made reservations and we sat upstairs, and I didn’t even know there was seating upstairs. The portions and food were superb in my book. But I just can’t get over the ratings of this place are all over the charts, from 1 – 5. I rate it a five as we ordered various dishes, hamachi appetizer, fried scallops, seaweed salad, spicy tuna roll, Combo dinner #1 and #2 and all were delicious! We particularly like the combo dinners as the sashimi was fresh with 6 slices of fish, 3 salmon and 3 tuna, 2 shrimp tempuras and vegetable tempura, salmon teriyaki(combo 2), chicken teriyaki(combo 1), gyoza(combo 1) and the combos were under $ 20. Combos come with soup, salad and rice. Service was attentive as well and if you pay your bill in cash, you get 10% off your bill.

For the sake of how long I’ve been living in this area, I’m really surprised I never decided to walk into this restaurant until a few days ago. It isn’t very visually appealing and can be easily missed on the corner, but once you’re in it’s actually pretty cozy like you’re at a local café. On a weekend this place was just the right amount of crowded, meaning that my sister, mom and I didn’t have to wait long for a table even though there were a few parties ahead of us and people leaving the restaurant. Now onto the food; the prices overall are a little steep, but in the end it was pretty worth it for the amount of food you get. My sister got the tempura donburi, I got the dinner bento box two and my mom got the bento box three. All the dinner menu items come with miso soup and salad(PS salad dressing is yummy); bento boxes get a side of rice. We also decided to order a «Finding Nemo» roll(spicy tuna, salmon, avocado, roe) that came out way later while we were in the middle-almost end of our main dishes… I don’t know if I would order both dinner items and sushi rolls if they don’t come out at the same time. Anyways, I LOVED my bento box two; came with salmon teriyaki, a decent portion of tuna and salmon sashimi(these were FAT pieces and probably one of the places I can recommend for very fresh fish), shrimp and veggie tempura, and this side of spinach with ponzu sauce. The bento box three my mom got had two skewers of yakitori, an eggplant side, veggie tempura and california roll. Both boxes were about $ 17-$ 19 which isn’t too bad for what you’re getting. Downside of my experience: they weren’t on top of refilling our waters or asking if everything was okay. I would definitely come back for the sashimi, but maybe to-go this time. ALSO pay cash for 10% off your bill!
