Serrano Hotel Union Square

Clean, the lobby is beautiful, and I enjoyed the city view from our room. The on-​site restaurant is great for breakfast.

So my boyfriend and I stayed here this past memorial weekend. It was a spur of the moment trip. Half way through our drive from the OC and we still didn’t have a room, so I was kind of freaking out a little. He found it on expedia, I Unilocaled it, and we booked it. Surprisingly, I feel like this hotel made my trip great, despite the hectiness of SF that I know I could have been dealt with.
For starters, the price seemed reasonable to me. It was about $ 150 a night with tax for a king bed, which I didn’t see as too unreasonable for a holiday weekend. I expected it to be way more with it being so close to things. I wasn’t a fan of the «urban fee», but I felt this place still beat out the prices and quality of others.
The parking at the hotel, I couldn’t comment on because I used the structure across the street. Two days came out to $ 80, which seemed cheaper than the hotel price.
The room itself was nice. I would have to agree and say yes, it was smaller, but that didn’t take away from it. I mean, how big of a room do people want? It had the king bed, closet, tv, mini fridge, and desk… all with room for people to crash on the floor still. I will say, I had a small issue with the shower as ours did not drain quickly. My boyfriend and I just laughed about it and hurried to get out. Aside from that, the room was great. The bed was probably the most comfortable hotel bed I have ever slept on. Despite being a 6am riser, this bed had me sleep in till 9 and we only got up because we wanted to walk down to fishermans wharf early.
The location of this hotel is right by the financial district I think. It worked out for my boyfriend and I because he knew I don’t mind walking to explore things, so the distance didn’t matter to us. At night it can have a few homeless around, but it’s no different than LA or SD, so it wasn’t something I was really bothered by. It was located within 15 minutes walking distance to a few breweries, bars, and little eating places, so that made us happy. We took the bart over to Oakland Sunday evening, which was also in walking distance.
Overall, I really enjoyed this hotel. It was clean, comfortable, and suited us well. I will definitely look into staying here again for my next visit.

This place used to be great. It’s now awful. (Previous review below)
First off the mattresses are now slabs of granite. You wake up in the morning and need to pop 4 Advil to handle the pain from sleeping on such a hard surface. On the positive side, it makes you get out of bed and get going with your day.
Second, previously the people working there were very nice & personable. Now it’s more like a McDonald’s. Quick curt service with nothing extra.
We moved to a different hotel after the first night — it was that bad.

This is a super nice hotel with very nice people working there. All recommendations from them were excellent, always plenty of people to ask, etc.
The main lobby is very nice. The rooms are old and pretty basic. Well maintained, the beds are comfortable, etc. but the bathrooms are small — like on a cruise ship.

After reading some of the reviews on Unilocal,I was apprehensive of my stay but the hotel ended up being delightful. The hotel is historic but the room was clean and modern and the front desk associate was helpful and courteous. Would totally recommend

I stayed at the Serrano Hotel for 4 nights. These are the highlights from my experience.
1. Price: The rates were high because of a huge convention at the Moscone center, which is located about half a mile away from the hotel. But can’t blame them, that was true for every hotel in the neighborhood during that same time and I had no choice as I wanted to stay close to the convention center. I paid about 279 $ per night for a room with 2 double beds, with tax it came to about 325 $ per night. I guess this is why I was spared from the «urban» fee that they charge per night for coffee and wifi.
2. Room/​room service: The room was certainly smaller than average. It had a TV, desk, closet, 2 double beds and a mini fridge. Double beds are REALLY small, can only accommodate one person I think. Cleanliness was great, bed was cozy and comfortable and room service was excellent. There were plenty of clean of bath robes and towels as well as good quality soaps and shampoos.
3. Location: The hotel is located at the cusp of tenderloin and I was advised by the valet to not walk towards it, I guess because of the large number of homeless people. But they are everywhere in this part of SF, and I did not feel threatened at any point. There is nothing to do in the immediate neighborhood, except for this fun café called honey honey. One could walk to union square and nob hill, but über is the way to go for anything further.
4. Staff: helpful and friendly. We lost one of the key cards and they were cool with it.
5. Hotel: the hotel itself is clearly old and the lobby had a very quaint but pretty interior. The elevators are small but not too slow. I stayed on the 10^th floor and unlike other reviewers, did not have any issues with noise.
Long story short, I would stay at the Serrano hotel again but only if the rates are lower!

I had a love/​hate relationship with this hotel. The staff was all amazing; everyone I spoke with was very friendly and accommodating. The room, while small, was clean and nice. Upon check-​in I asked for and received an upgrade to a King sized bed. Turns out those rooms are a bit bigger. If that’s a bigger room, I’m really curious to see what the smaller rooms look like.
The hotel is not in the best area, but I won’t knock it down a star for that; what do you expect in the Tenderloin? I personally didn’t have a problem with it and quite enjoy walking around at night and speaking with the random people that you run into.
What I didn’t like about this hotel is the nickel and diming. As many people have mentioned previously, there is an «Urban Fee» tacked on at the end of your stay. I knew about this as I had looked at the reviews, but unfortunately not until AFTER I had gotten this hotel on Priceline Name-​Your-​Own-​Price. At that point it is too late to opt out and choose another hotel. So it’s a way they can sneak in an extra $ 25 a day (plus tax… on a fee) for pretty much nothing. Free Newspaper? Morning Coffee in the Lobby? Water in the Lobby? Shuttle Service to the Financial district (M-​F… this was the weekend), and barely passable Wi-​Fi. All of these things should be included. When you look at the comments from the hotel they frequently mention that people prefer to have the fees all lumped together. I would disagree with that, considering most of the Perks you pay for are typically included, or won’t get used. And considering that so many reviews are negative because of this urban fee, the hotel might be better off charging the extra up front, or charging for services used. But then again, how do you justify charging for a slow pouring dispenser of water in the lobby? Pretty Tacky any way you look at it.
So I like the staff, the hotel itself is nice, but the way it is run by the ownership loses an extra star.
PS — Parking is ridiculously expensive. Not the hotel’s fault; that’s just what you get for that part of the city. You might be better off parking somewhere else and ubering to the hotel. Assuming of course you don’t need access to your Car during your visit. Though with parking and driving in the city as it is, you might be better off without your car if possible.

Well, first of all, I have to say I was expecting a very good hotel, since it was shown together with Hilton in Priceline and is marked as 4. however, it just looks not that attractive. But, it does look like a very good hotel years ago.
it has 25 dollars a day of extra fee. There is a super 8, orange village hotel, and Columbia hotel right next to it.

I really fell in love with this hotel. BTW, I confess that I’m a ‘hotel snob’ who has worked in the hospitality industry for many years with luxury and lifestyle brands to give this review further context. I rarely rate a hotel 5 stars, unless it’s already a Mobil 5 star or luxury hotel, but then you’re paying for it.
First of all, the location rocks! I checked in super late and was instantly blown away with the architectural details in the lobby. Talk about a great first impression. Then I was greeted by the friendliest night shift crew. Normally this shift doesn’t always attract the most hospitable folk if you catch my drift.
I proceeded to my room and really love all of the features. The bed was super comfortable, great amenities, super clean bathroom, plenty of power supplies for my electronics, and most importantly, quiet. Normally when you stay around Union Square, the noise can be a factor.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have a chance to check out the restaurant, but will certainly do so on my next trip to SF!

Arrival:
Pulled up at the curb and had a totally hectic experience dropping off my car. The valet walked away from my car with he key in the ignition and the door open. I said «What about my car as he walked off with my bags» and he just kept going. I had to go back and get my key and lock my car while he carried my bags in.
Check In:
This was when I learned that in addition to what I had already paid to Priceline to book this room that I was going to pay a $ 25 fee to cover internet, newspaper, coffee service and few other items. I said I did not want those things and did not need to pay the fee, and was told it was not optional. I objected and pointed out that Priceline had sent me an email saying the hotel had no fee. This turned into a classic «he said, she said» moment. Bottom line. I was going to pay this fee to stay. I felt held hostage. I could not cancel the booking with Priceline and get my money back and I could not stay without paying the fee. Such a joke.
Room:
Decent room. Not 4 Star, but not bad. It was clean and quiet.
Check Out:
Tried to discuss the fee again and was again told that Priceline customers were all having the same issue.
Bottom Line:
I would not choose this hotel again. The room was just okay. The location was just okay. The customer service was TERRIBLE. I should not have been charged this fee. If you don’t want to get stuck paying for things you don’t need or want choose another hotel.

First stay in this hotel and it was quite enjoyable. The fact the Serrano has been around for nearly a 100 years makes it exceptional. Comfy room with great work desk and plenty of power receptacles.

Only negative feedback was when my coworker and I wanted to eat breakfast at hotel, no one could be found in restaurant. We looked around and waited but no one showed.

Located in the Tenderloin, the most sketchy area of SF. If used syringes on the sidewalk, and being bothered for money by drug addicts every time you step out is on your tourism list, this is the place to go. Be careful especially at night since its known for muggings and violent crime (look it up on a crime map). This area is one of the worst places I’ve been to and I’ve lived in some sketchy areas myself in the past.
Despite it being 2016, this place still charges $ 20 per night for internet (they call it an «Urban Fee», which also includes such «special amenities» as free coffee or tea in the morning). You’d think for $ 20 per night you’d get solid WiFi, but it actually disconnects every 30 – 45 mins.
Staff not very helpful — I asked if I could get a minifridge since I was there for a week and had some leftover food I didnt want to throw out, but they said it would cost extra. I asked if they could set up a wake-​up call each day, they said I’d have to let them know each night since they can only do it one day at a time (really? How hard is this to do?).
The housekeeping staff does an excellent job and it is a beautiful old hotel (why I’m giving it 2 stars not 1), but for all the other reasons I gave I would avoid this place like the plague. I’m sure there’s plenty of better hotels in SF. I’m being fully reimbursed by my employer for the cost of the hotel, and still feel morally compelled to take the time to write a review so other people don’t stay here. So take my word for it.

My employer booked me a hotel here, it was comfortable and clean. I did have an issue getting a hold of someone at the front desk while I was in my room. That’s partially why I took a star off the other reason was the location, just on the outer edge of the tenderloin, not being used to the crazyness if SF makes the location a little iffy for me, although not a bad location and I would just consider that if you are easily spooked by crazy people and plan on being out and about at night. Also if you want a view ask for a top floor room. My view was a liquor store.

I’m not going to lie, the location is sketch but I will explain. I was born and raised in SF I know all of the city I did not pick this hotel my company did. It is on the border of the tenderloin. Yes you will see some bad things and no you won’t go out alone. While close to union square so is the Sir Francis Drake and any other hotel located downtown because SF is a small small city. Sir Francis drake does not compare to this hotel so that’s where my recommendation would be. It’s not that more expensive and safer and actually IN Union square. The reason for the four stars is simply because the amazing customer service they provided me. Any time I called the front desk they instantly were at my hotel door delivering whatever I needed. That was very appreciated. So while not a bad hotel there just are better located hotels.

So the Serrano charges an Urban fee of $ 22 which is just like a resort fee. Without the resort… Come on guys have some respect for your guests. Nobody wants to be nickeled and dimed wifi gym water should all be complimentary. Or you should be able to choose if you’d like to pay and use the services. Total extortion here and the first thing I smell as I walk into my small dbl room is a slight aroma of urine. The bed skirt was all over the place the tv wouldn’t turn on. The bathroom was tiny needless to say not a 4 star hotel. But I thought I’d try a different hotel from my usual I might not make that mistake again.

Solid hotel. The only thing I have to say because I am a weirdo is I wish they had coffee maker in the room. Other than that I would stay here again.

Ugh. In a nutshell, this place was overpriced for the accommodations and the overall experience was just meh. I booked everything online after reviewing the hotel via Unilocal.It was quick, easy, and I was looking forward to it. We drove out from Scottsdale, Arizona on a Thursday and all in one day.
The parking situation was ridiculous and we felt unprepared. Yes, I’ve never been to San Francisco before so I was unaware how bad parking is in general but coupled with the insane traffic and very little signage, this was the first unpleasant experience. In short, after circling the block several times and unable to find the hotel nor any parking, we flagged down what seemed to be a valet and he informed us we can self-​park inside a large parking structure near the hotel or a valet can park there for us. Since we were tired and cranky, we decided to let the valet park for us. On the upside, the valet was very nice, informative, and helpful.
Once inside, it felt like I was entering an old grand ballroom — high ceilings, vintage yet lavish decorations, plush seating, etc. The hotel staff was very nice and we checked into our hotel room without incidence. Then we rode the old timey elevator upstairs to our room. The room was decent — it had a bed, a nightstand, room for our luggage. However, the bathroom was tiny and ridiculous. I felt cramped when getting ready and it was really uncomfortable. We didn’t have a great view (looking down at the hostel next door) but that was okay.
The only redeeming thing about the entire stay was our meal at the hotel restaurant, Jaspers. Holy moly, that was delicious. Additionally, the valet and hotel staff were very nice during our stay. When we checked out three nights later, the valet was quick to get our car and we were on our way home.
The real kicker at the end of our stay was the day after we checked out. Once we arrived home, I noticed I had forgotten my pillows in the hotel room. I called the hotel, was transferred multiple times until I was given to who was essentially the head of the housekeeping crew. To be frank, there was a language barrier and I kept having to repeat my request if they found my pillows. They offered to ship the pillows back and I agreed but requested they use the least expensive shipping option. I repeated several times that I did NOT need the pillows next day, so please do not ship overnight. Well, they arrived next day and they charged my credit card $ 125. Needless to say, I was unhappy about the additional charge and the fact that my request was ignored.
Overall, I wouldn’t stay at this particular hotel again as there are many other options in San Francisco. However, I would come back and eat at Jaspers. Seriously, I dream about that place.

We stayed three nights in late December for a little SF getaway. This is the hotel where my husband is usually booked when he comes into the city for work, so he suggested we stay here. I thought the room was a good value for what we paid and the staff was very friendly. As others have noted, they are working on their second elevator, so wait times can be a little slow, but it was never more than a few minutes. The lobby has lots of cute seating nooks. Coffee, newspaper and wifi are covered by the urban fee. The location is right on the edge of the Tenderloin but this did not cause any issue for us. We even walked back late at night after a theater performance and did not feel unsafe. We look forward to a return trip in the future.

Really disappointed with our stay at this hotel. We decided to stay an extra night in the city on Christmas Eve into Christmas Day, we were currently staying at the hotel directly next door (which we loved), but decided to bid online for a hotel of the same caliber in the same district to see if we could get a better deal. We bid for a 4 Star Hotel… and then we were assigned to the Serrano, which we quickly realized was not going to meet any expectations that one usually has for a 4 Star Hotel. We initially were excited, we looked online at the hotel and by the pictures it looked really nice! We called and asked for early check-​in and we were also accommodated with that so we rolled our luggage down the block to the Nightmare Before Christmas… we walked into a lobby that was dark and dingy and sadly decorated for Christmas with a creaky slow swinging door that reminded you of entering into a Haunted House. Our room at first seemed tiny, but charming, with a decent view of the city, and then we realized just how tiny it really was; it was as if the hotel was still trying to fit all the accommodations of a regularly sized hotel room into Geico Geckos room on the TV commercial. We had a queen bed, with only one nightstand on one side of it, so we Row Sham Bow’d to see who was going to have to set their water glass on the floor to knock over into the night, I won… and so luckily my water glass was granted a night stand… except that one of the drinking glasses provided to us was chipped, and so while I got the nightstand, I gave the un-​chipped glass to my boyfriend, because it’s the giving time of the year after all!
We make shift unpacked as there wasn’t much space, and headed out for the day/​evening. We found out the next morning that the $ 22 «incidental fee» came with a free morning wake up call at 8:30 am! Not even so much as a Merry Christmas before we were awakened by house– keeping! I don’t mean to sound overly complaining, I mean Yes, we could have called down and gotten another water glass, and yes, we could have put our «do not disturb» sign on the door, but check out was 12pm and we were planning to be out of our room by 10:30 am, and we really weren’t expecting to have our room barged into (twice I might add) before the time that we checked out.
And then, possibly the must un-​enjoyable part of our stay, the Bathroom… the hotel has a 1920’s theme and it is very possible that in fact the wall paper which was peeling off the walls was the original wall paper from 1920. There was no counter space in the bathroom, so the blow dryer and my hair brush were left to be on the toilet lid while trying to get ready in the morning, and a 3 inch glass shelf was directly above the towel rack which meant hitting our hands trying to get the towels on/​off. The shower/​tub was hands down the WORST shower I have ever had in my life, I would strongly encourage management to go stand in that thing. It was very shallow and weirdly rounded as an older tub and you couldn’t find a flat spot to place your feet on without feeling like you were going to lose your balance, which gave you an odd sensation of Vertigo while trying to shower as quickly as possible.
All of these factors ended with our utter disappointment that this is considered a 4 Star hotel. Perhaps it is because we «bid» for our room, and so maybe they stick you in the sh*tty rooms when you don’t pay full price, but it was highly disappointing and will make us think twice next time about trusting online hotel sites.

Stayed two nights early December and absolutely loved it.
It’s a cosy, 1920’s-build, period hotel with a plush lobby and Jasper’s bar attached.
Room was immaculate, totally spotless, very comfy. Attentive staff throughout, especially Jennifer and Betty on the front desk.
I saw a lot of air crew in uniform here, giving the hotel a chic feel, meaning the airlines trust it and that’s good enough for me.
The lobby itself is a great spot for informal business meetings. Open fireplace, Queen Anne chairs and sofas. Intimate enough for private conversations or laptop working.
A few tips: 1. Business center is one iMac, so don’t leave anything to the last minute. 2. Don’t buy coffee with your breakfast as that is included in the $ 22 urban fee — take it from the lobby instead. 3. It’s an old building with period architecture, so expect the elevators to be small — no big deal, it only adds to the 1920’s charm.
It’s a small, homely hotel with bags of character. I’ve made it my ‘go to’ place in San Francisco.

I’ve been reading the recent reviews and have to agree that I’m confused about the free wifi. I believe we have to pay for it within our incidental «fee». The town car is not complimentary, however the bellman is nice.
It feels like they are short staffed or lack communicating with each other. My mom and I had a horrible flight into SF and were not able to check in at our normal time, but instead late at night. Our bags were going to be delivered to the hotel and the man at the front desk said he’d call us when they arrived. He never called. We ended up calling the front desk two hours after our initial call to see if the bags came, but per usual no one answers the phone when you need them. At 1am, 3am central time, our bags were there with no call-​not only that, but no one offered to help us carry the luggage.
No room service though the book in the room says it’s available. Restaurant’s service was not good either, but that’s another review.
Bathrooms were not fully stocked with washcloths, soap was not refilled and Kleenex was empty after room service came. They fixed it per our request immediately.
One elevator still.
Will not be staying here again.

They had a good deal on Travelocity with airline tickets to SF for thanksgiving weekend so we wanted save so we decided to stay here.
We stayed on the 9^th floor which normally isn’t too bad but the hotel only has two elevators with a 4 – 5 person capacity it was super tiny the major problem was one elevator was always out of service. I have to stay that this hotel is so tacky not in a vintage look either. I can’t get over the weird wallpaper and drapes and carpet it’s amazing how so many things can not match. On the 9^th floor the wallpaper goes from yellow to purple lines with colorful carpet. The color scheme just reminds me of a really bad circus or something.
In our room the water took a long time heat up on certain days, our sink the water doesn’t shoot out straight, the room has this old cologne smell, and I’m pretty sure I saw some rat poop on our sheets.
Onto the fee’s they charge you a additional 22 dollar fee? For like coffee, gym, and etc. If you have a car the nearest place to park is the ace parking lot which is 30 dollars a day.
I feel like at the rate of all the additional charges we should just pick a better hotel next time. The pictures online really doesn’t show what the hotel looks like in real person.

Hidden fees and broken elevators
Booked through priceline express deals, was happy with price and room was a decent value. one elevator was down the whole stay, and the other was broken for a few hours as well. The thing that really got me was the «Urban Fee»… thats right, they charged me 44.00 for 2 days worth of lobby coffee and newspapers in the lobby.
To be clear I had paid for the «room and taxes + fees» before arriving through priceline, but they added the charge on my bill at checkout. I’ve used priceline lots of times and never had anything like this happen, and every one of the other hotels I’ve stayed at has been in an «urban» environment. Aside from this scam and the elevators the stay was acceptable.

The FIRE ALARM went off at 3am, blaring a PA system in our room: «Please proceed to the nearest stairwell.» We jumped out of bed and put our clothes on, rushed out the room. It was a false alarm. We got back into bed, and 20 minutes later, it went off AGAIN. The alarm went off FOUR times between 3am and 5am.
The water did not work in the morning; the faucets and shower would not turn on. We had to wait over an hour for water.
We booked through Hotels Tonight. Never had an issue with this third party booking service. When we arrived, they only had us confirmed for one night, even though our booking receipt said we confirmed (and payed) for 2 nights.

The greatest thing about the Serrano was how much the lobby reminded me of the Tower of Terror in Disneyland. It’s got a great location and a cool feel to it.
However the price point and the hidden charges (taxes on my already crazy valet charge as well as an urban fee– whatever that is — came out to north of 80 bucks!)
make my return unlikely.
Overall — A good experience — Great room, with good view. Value is the main thing holding me back from recommending wholeheartedly.

This hotel is fine but overpriced and not as good as other 4 star hotels in downtown SF.
The rooms are small, the hotel is old and needs renovating, and a number of rooms do not have desks for business travelers.
The hotel did not have the room I booked reserved so I had to move rooms after the first night.
Putting a bag in storage took 15m.
If this hotel were less than $ 200 a night it’d be a good 3 star option. But it’s not.

The good: Location is between Union Square and the Tenderloin, convenient to most parts of the city and not too dodgy outside (although the Tenderloin has many characters). Had a corner room with good natural light. The bad: Service is the problem. Was rude at check-​in and when we tried later to order room service the phone rang until reaching a voice mail box. Three times and it was 9pm while the restaurant was still open. I then called the front desk and they said they would have room service call me back. It’s been 36 hours and I am still waiting. San Francisco has too many other options for me to stay here again.

I’m not from San Fran so I wasn’t sure where exactly the hotel was located. It isn’t far from a lot of places you’d want to visit as a tourist. We even walked to Lombard street which is about 1.5 miles.
This is a decent hotel and definitely older. They did a nice job of keeping this boutique feel to it. The staff was extremely helpful and cordial (despite what others said.) In fact, when we checked on, Omar was really cordial.
The one issue I had was when we got into bed it smelt really fowl. I think it’s because the GF got into the covers with wet hair from the shower and it seeped into the mattress (thus pulling out odors.) I know, disgusting.
The room service also didn’t work for us. We called twice and then left a message… Crickets. We just wanted wine so we walked down to the corner store and got ripped off dorms bottle!
They are in walking distance of several breakfast spots and are connected to Jaspers which apparently is decent. We didn’t eat there.
Overall, I would stay again and for the price it’s not bad (as SF prices go.)

This is a really nice hotel but for what we paid, I def expected better.
We came here on our road trip to San Francisco. It was a last minute booking as our camp site over booked and we showed up late.

and were offered what we thought was a good rate for this type of hotel. When we arrived, the garage told us that we had the choice to get valet parking for $ 49 or self park for $ 59. WHAT??? The hotel doesn’t have parking? This was the first time I heard of that. I called the front desk and asked about parking. She told me there was a garage next door that could valet park or we were free to take a chance with street parking. I asked «Parking is not included?» She laughed and said «Parking is never included in a resort…» actually, ma’am, it is… in most places.
We parked. We walked in. The architecture and design is amazing. It is genuinely a beautiful hotel. The service (despite the phone call) was very kind. When we checked in they hit us with an additional «Amenities» fee. $ 25. Whats that for? On top of the room and parking, we had to pay the fee to use the facilities such as: gym, conference center, laundry, wifi… all the things we would not be using. But it was required. We paid that and got our room. We asked if there were any military discount and she kindly apologized and said no. She could see the exhaustion in our faces and offered an upgrade to a suite. Very nice of her. At least something was going right.
We head up to the room and it’s very spacious. The bathroom was MASSIVE. You could fit a party in there!!! The décor tho… it looked like an old french circus. gold and red stripes. Not my favorite. We get to bed and it was like sleeping on a cloud. So fluffy. So comfy.
The view was a little sketchy. We were on a corner and 1 window faced a fire escape/​alley way and the other was the roof to the parking garage. It was creepy so we closed all the windows and went to bed… Around 1am, we were awakened by a sound outside our door. The fire alarm was going off. We panicked and ran out but saw no one else was coming out. Were we the only ones on this floor or did we miss it? The alarm was only going off on our floor… we walked back to the room and called down and asked the front desk. They told us not to panic and the alarm would be turned off shortly. Ok. But still no explanation as to why it was going off just «It does that.» We get to bed and 3am, the alarm goes off again!!! So much for a good nights sleep. We call again and they said not to worry. It was a little harder to get to bed after that but we managed. 7am rolls around and theres a knock at the door. I get up and look and there’s a woman. Doesn’t say anything and by the second knock she was already attempting to open the door! I yelled «EXCUSE ME!!» and she quickly apologizing and scurries away with her cart. I think it was house keeping… Check out was at 12 but we packed up and left around 9. We were exhausted and broke and were ready to go home after that night.

Booked a room at this hotel for a weekend getaway for an anniversary.
It is located in the heart of San Fran, right by Union Square. Famous restaurants and sights are just within walking distance, the Westfield Mall is just a few blocks away, and there is even a ²⁴⁄₇ convenience store (yes, they have liquor!) literary across the street from the hotel! The location is just very convenient.
We managed to get a room on a higher floor and the view is definitely nice. (However we did experience some troubles getting back to our room when the elevator was down…) Non-​the-​less, this hotel will have what you need to get a good night’s rest and whatever business you came here for.
Some perks to staying at this hotel was free coffee and tea in the morning (sadly no non-​dairy alternatives so load up on the sugar or stevia!), in-​room bar and snack cabinet (with a hefty fee ofcourse), and most interesting was they had board games you could borrow for a entertaining family night ;)
As another Unilocaler mentioned, the building has a nice vintage feel– if that’s your thing. The décor is nice and pleasant. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here.

Friendly staff. Café, bar within the hotel. Gym and sauna available. Rooms are stylish. Accommodations are great. I rather stay here in a hotel with character than a hilton. This is a boutique hotel. The lobby is comfy and chill. We walked in to a wine tasting event. The lighting is dim but it’s not dark. Every morning you can have complimentary tea or coffee.
Blow dryer worked. I needed a flat iron and the receptionist obliged. Tub was standard. Bathroom could use more counter space. Location is great. Walking distance frim Union sqr, Macys, DSW, H&M and a ton of other well known stores. Close to many great rated restaurants. And close to Walgreens (dryg store)
Concierge was very helpful in arranging our daily trips to siteseeing.

Eingangshalle sehr schön, strategisch tolle Lage, Fitness ausreichend equipt, netter Service. Zimmer in Ordnung, nicht riesig, etwas «plüschig» vielleicht. Unser Blick ging direkt zur 50 cm entfernten Hauswand, nicht so richtig beeindruckend. Dafür erstaunlich ruhig für so eine Stadtlage. Wände sind dünn. Nachbar führte ausgiebige Business-​calls um 6 Uhr am Morgen und wir waren quasi mittendrin. Fazit: ok, nicht wahnsinnig toll.

Ich war 4 Tage in San Francisco und auch 4 Nächte im Serrano Hotel. Das Hotel ist standard und das Doppelzimmer ausreichend gross, vielleicht ein wenig angestaubt. Die Lage (nahe Union Square) ist gut, wenn da nicht die vielen Obdachlose wären die um das Hotel ihr Nachtquartier aufgeschlagen haben und penetrant um eine milde Spende bitten.
