I miss real service. At some point, tipping became expected. It used to be that 15% was a decent tip for someone who made you feel welcome, appreciated, and valued. Now, anything less than 18% makes you a cheapskate. Forgive me for saying this, but the old codger in me is fed up. What the hell happened to good service?
Eating at Sandwiches by Frank is like stepping into a time machine and turning the dial back to 1950. Frank is an older gentleman, whose shock white hair matches his immaculate butcher’s jacket. he takes visible pride and care in each sandwich that he crafts. I ordered a Reuben, and couldn’t help but smile broadly as I watched him attentively and carefully slice the meat and cheese. No out-​of-​the-​bottle 1000 Island dressing on this sandwich. Frank mixes it fresh on the bread. The kicker? HUGE dill pickles. And guess what? They’re FREE!
So what the hell happened to good, old-​fashioned service? It’s been at Sandwiches by Frank for the last umpteen years. If you miss it like I do, pay a visit and prepare to be awed.
