Clay is the only person I would trust with our cat. Our cat is an outdoor kitty and we have had issues with other critters stealing his food. Clay informed us while we were in Madrid that food set up for replenishing was missing and he took appropriate action to keep our cat safe and fed. Coyotes are very smart becoming a problem in the city, but not for Clay.

We did not have a good experience with Clay. (my apologies for the delay in providing a review)
Based on his stellar reviews, we entrusted Clay with our two cats; Peanut and Butter. We asked Clay to visit our cats EVERYDAY to clean the litter box, feed, and play with the boys. When my husband and I left for our week long ride from S.F. to L. A (AidsLife Cycle) the first week of June, we felt we were in good hands. It should be noted, that we informed Clay, that in the event there were any emergencies, he should contact our neighbor across the street.
Day One went well. Clay sent us pics of the boys, and they seemed happy. This was a good start.
Sadly, there was no word from Clay on Day Two. At about 9pm, out of concern, I checked my ADT Security system through my iPhone and noticed the house had not been entered since Clay’s departure the day prior. Since it was late and nobody had been to the house, I texted and called Clay out of concern. But, alas there was no response. I contacted my neighbor, who promptly went over to feed the boys and noted that although there was no sign of wet food in the bowls, there was an automatic feeder. (note: Clay did mention he would leave a feeder for the dry food to ensure they would have food throughout the day). The following day (day 3) I again tried to contact Clay, but again there was no response. I reached out to my neighbor again, and she agreed to look after the cats the remainder of the trip. At that point, I texted Clay informing him that we no longer needed his services. Interestingly, Clay got right back to me and indicated that he was sorry that it didn’t work out and that he would drop of the keys and deposit the check into the mailbox. (so weird).
One final, interesting note about the service he provided: Clay did clean the litter box on Day One, as promised. But, for some very strange reason, he decided to deposit the waste in a bag on our back deck. Odd since he was instructed to place it in the bin. I can only assume he was to lazy to take to the bin the garage. A racoon got into the wast and made a bit of a mess.
My issue isnt that he at any point placed the cats in danger. I am sure they had enough water for a couple days and I am sure the feeder would have provided plenty of nutrition. My issue is that we had an agreement with Clay to visit the cats each day, and he was handed a check based on that agreement. I truly believe Clay had no intention of visiting the cats each day. (just my gut). I dont think Clay anticipated me checking the alarm system each day to check to make sure he visited. A gamble, if you will. Only this time, it didnt pay off for Clay.
My advise to others, should you choose to hire Clay, is to have friends or neighbors check in periodically to make sure he is doing what he was hired to do.

Clay has been sitting my cat multiple times in the past 3 year and I can’t recommend him strongly enough. He’s very professional and take good care of my cat while I’m away. He was really helpful when a problem arose with my bank when I was traveling on the other side of the world.
This a smarter, cheaper and easier solution than boarding.

Nanny Clay is great. He’s taken care of our cat, Ponyo, several times over the last couple of years. He’s reliable (only once was he not available, and it was very short notice during the holidays), sends updates including photos, has watered plants and brought in mail when we’ve been away longer. Not sure he’s much of a people-​person, but either am I. He’s sitting the cat not me, and they seem to get on very well :)

Clay is absolutely superb. I used a pricey cat boarding facility for years before making the switch to cat-​sitting, and am so glad I did. The cats get to stay in the comfort of my (their) home, and Clay’s visits keep them not only fed, but entertained and cleaned up after. For ¼ the cost of boarding them.
I was a little hesitant about cat-​sitting at first. My two can be a bit of a handful and tend to create a mess — including the occasional litterbox mishap. So I needed someone who would get to know them and their quirks. Clay immediately told me that he’d seen it all and could handle things, no problem. And he’s been true to his word.
Over the past few months, he’s gotten to really know my two cats, and is totally unphased by their antics. In fact, I think they’ve become so used to Clay and appreciate so much his visits they’ve started behaving better both when I’m out of town as well as when I’m back at home.
I feel 100% at ease with leaving them in Clay’s hands. He has a copy of my keys so I can just shoot him an email notifying of my upcoming trips and trust that he’ll be there, even on short notice. He sends clear and consistent confirmations of my requests and his visits, and provides great updates on how the cats are doing in my absence. The cats always seem really content when I return, and the apartment feels a little cleaner than I left it.

Clay is incredibly efficient (read: busy) and came highly recommended by coworkers. He’s perhaps not the most *obviously* lovey with my Milo, but goes above and beyond with bringing toys and taking photo updates for longer trips. He’s easily reachable, and will do helpful things like pick up your mail and water your plants when you’re gone for long time frames. Pro-​tip: once you’re on his roster he prioritizes you for busy times like the holidays.

This was the first time I needed to hire a cat sitter and I was very pleased with Clay. Very professional and friendly, he gave me the piece of mind I wanted so I could enjoy my time away from home on my vacation. Best part of all — he emailed me photos of my cats, something that definitely put a smile on my face :) I would totally recommend him to anyone that needs a cat sitter.

If you’re looking for a great cat sitting service, look no further, Clay is your guy! I’ve been using Clay’s cat sitting service for several years now and I could not be happier. Clay is great — he takes great care of my cat, Charlie, and gives him a lot of love, affection and attention whenever I am out of town. He also leaves nice little treats or toys behind, like catnip or dental treats. There have been times when I’ve had to take a sudden trip out of town without much warning, and Clay has always made himself available to watch Charlie, even with that last-​minute notice. Another thing that’s nice — Clay texts me or emails me, sometimes with photos, to let me know that Charlie is doing great. That’s real peace of mind when you’re out of town!

I wanted to update my review of Clay and Pet Sitter San Francisco as he has now been walking my dog Twix for nearly six years (daily M-​F and has his own keys). I highly recommend Clay. He’s extremely trustworthy, responsive and flexible. He leaves updates, treats and sometimes gifts Twix with a new stuffed animal. He also does courteous things like bringing packages into my apartment that have been left in the lobby or outside my door. Most importantly, Twix loves Clay and is always happy to see him. I know she is in good hands with Clay and he’s taken excellent care of her over many years now.

Clay took wonderful care of my older cat while I was away for two weeks. He’d send funny updates and photos, so I never had to worry that she was forgotten or lonely. Not only did he feed her and clean her litter box, but he brushed my long-​haired kitty each visit. When I returned, she looked so much better than she usually does! And she was content, relaxed and happy. He’ll also tend to your mail and houseplants. Full-​service!
You can tell he really likes animals. He asks all the right questions and thinks of everything. Clay’s also highly-​organized and very responsive. He was able to accommodate my rather last-​minute request and everything was squared away (his visit to the house, key exchange, etc.) in record time. Highly recommend!

Clay has been our pet care professional since we moved to San Francisco two years ago and we absolutely recommend him to all! We have had him visit our two cats for both short and long trips and always return to happy, healthy cats — knowing that while on the trip that they are in good hands with Clay.
After meeting a couple times to start, Clay now just maintains a copy of our keys so it is easy to shoot him an email and arrange the next trip. This came in especially handy recently when we had a death in the family and had to travel back East on short notice, and Clay was totally accommodating and made himself available for the cats.
Also, Clay truly cares about animals, asking us to donate one of his day’s fee of his holiday visits to the SPCA and collecting goods for donation as well.

I needed a cat sitter for the holidays and I found Clay via his website and checked reviews online. I contacted him in early October, he suggested we meet in early November to meet my cats and get the full info and a set of keys, and our first meeting was very easy — he was friendly, on time, brought proof of insurance, and kept in contact. He emailed before the holidays to check that all was still on, and was very flexible in slightly adjusting the dates of his services when my travel plans changed.
When I left for my trip he sent an email notifying me of his start, and I had let him know I didn’t need constant updates on my pets as long as he was good to keep coming each day. Well, I admit I’m a little more neurotic than I want to be, and a kind friend offered to stop in quickly one day to just confirm that the place was still standing and my cats were doing OK, and funnily enough during the five minutes he stopped by, Clay showed up and my friend sent me a text that when he left Clay was brushing the cats and playing music for them, haha. I often have had multiple cat sitters in the past due to using friends with busy schedules, so I was really nervous about my first time using a professional service, but Clay was very straightforward and did a great job, and I will definitely book his service again when I travel!

I was hesitant to write a review, but after working with a new cat sitter, I feel like I should.
Overall, Clay did what we asked of him. He watched our kitty and made sure she was fed and watered during our trip. He even made a last minute trip when our flight was delayed overnight — the reason for 2 stars instead of 1.
However, we had several issues with the way he handled our business.
First, we got a few unprofessional emails from him before he started. I mentioned I couldn’t meet him one day because I was looking at apartments. He had a mini freak out and told us that we should have let him know we were moving before hiring him. To be 100% clear, we were just LOOKING at an apartment — we weren’t even thinking of moving for a month or so after we got back from our trip. The whole ordeal stressed me out, and I felt it could have been handled better by him.
Second, he set a 3 hour window for our initial visit. We waited around on a Saturday afternoon from 12pm-​3pm waiting for him, and he showed up closer to 4pm. I have better things to do than to wait around for an appointment even if he’s the top rated cat sitter in SF. He gave us OUTDATED proof of insurance. Overall, we felt that he was qualified to watch our cat, but this made us feel slightly uncomfortable.
Third, he failed to mention to us that he’d be getting surgery the day we got back, and he had made no arrangements for a back up cat sitter in case of flight delays (which happened in our case). He still accommodated our delay, but we felt guilty because we didn’t know his situation until after he stopped by. After working with another cat sitter, we know now that he should have told us before that he’d be unable to make an extra visit, and made arrangements to have another cat sitter check on our cat if he couldn’t.
Fourth, we didn’t get regular updates from Clay. At one point we were worried because we didn’t get texts for a day or two so we messaged him. We got a response 12 hours to a day later — this is unacceptable in my opinion. We shouldn’t be worried about our cat when we are paying someone to watch her.
Finally, when we got back our cat was desperate for attention and heavier than when we left her. Our apartment floor looked dirty, and there were treats all over — on the floor and in her box tower. It was obvious to us that she wasn’t exercised like she should have been — she usually has trouble gaining weight because she’s so active, but she was noticeably chubbier. I don’t doubt Clay stopped by when he should, but it seemed like our cat was attention starved and in need of a good play session. Again, this seemed okay to me before working with a new cat sitter who gave our cat the attention she needed while we were gone.
Overall, I don’t understand why Clay is so highly rated in SF unless he is way better to other clients than he was to us (which is also an issue). I am so glad we found another cat sitter, because I wouldn’t want to leave our cat with Clay again.

Clay is an absolute god-​send. My fiancée has two quite different cats — one young, playful and easygoing, the other old, particular and sometimes defensive. We travel quite often, but the trips used to be painful as the cats didn’t take well to being left for days at a time — especially the young one who loves personal attention.
Clay changed all that. A great attention to detail, he instantly understood the respective personalities of the pets… he brought toys for them on the first meeting and left us a laser pen for the older cat, as he noted she liked to «hunt» the red dot.
Clay goes the extra mile and is exceedingly accommodating — he even noticed that one of our deliveries contained frozen meat for the holidays and kindly put the contents in the freezer.
I cannot begin to explain how great this is in terms of meaning returning from a trip is no longer a dreaded experience, and it has made my fiancée far more relaxed. You can instantly tell that the animals are happier on returning home now.
We can thoroughly recommend Clay and Pet Sitter San Francisco. If you look at the reviews here, you can really see that this man and his business do wonders. The occasional bad review seems unfairly held or flippant.

Traveling can be stressful enough without also having to worry about whether or not your pets are going to be okay. After using Clay since I moved to town, I can say without a doubt that he is professional, organized, and that my pet loves him.
When I was a first-​time customer, Clay’s professionalism was apparent immediately. He meets you at your place to do a walk through and he brings all sorts of important information (background check, his proof of insurance, etc.). After that he walks you through a checklist that touched upon all the questions I had (and more).
Working with Clay multiple times highlights his organizational skills. All of that stuff we went through the first time? He has it all written down and stored. All I have to do is ask Clay if he’s available for the dates I need, and we’re good to go from there. Very easy to stay a recurring customer.
While the previous two things are important, it’s an absolute «must-​have» that the pets get along with him. After using some other pet sitters, I would come home to a cat that lost a little weight and was clearly a little angry at me for leaving him alone. With Clay, it’s the exact opposite: my pet is eating enough and is super happy when I get back.
Also, on a personal note, Clay is very accommodating and easy to work with. I have a lot of last minute travel that pops up, and Clay has found a way to make it work every time. It’s absolutely great to work with somebody like that!

Clay watched our kitties once and I tried to hire him again but he didn’t return my calls or respond to my online service request. He seems super flakey and I wouldn’t recommend using his services. I need someone responsive and reliable to watch my pets. :(

Clay is the best! He’s taken care of our two cats on three occasions. I don’t know what happens when we are out of town, but the cats usually seem happier than when we left. Clay is professional and conscientious: he texted to see if we needed him to get more cat food when he thought we were low. He sends updates on the cats whenever I ask. The cats meow, «Claaaaay, Claaaaay» right after I return. I highly recommend him.

Our kitty has had wonderful, consistently good care from Clay for many years. We’re so fortunate that he’s so reliable and dependable. I’m updating this review because he deserves a «shout-​out» for all he has done for us. Thanks Clay!

Clay impressed me from the very beginning by bringing one pink & blue mouse, each for my girl & boy cat at our first meeting. He is impressively responsible, trustworthy and professionally serious, which immediately allowed me to quickly feel a great deal of trust towards him. Since meeting him, I only use him to care for my cats when I go out of town — no one else. True, my cats are a bit older and have a ton of prissy attitude but Clay handles them like no one else I’ve ever seen!
My cats are always calm and well cared for upon my return and that is a spectacularly difficult feat, which he accomplishes with no fuss or issue. The best assurance I can have when I’m away from home is his emails telling me my cats (my babies, as he perceptively noticed I like to call them) are fine, happy and well-​tended.
Clay is an amazing pet sitter — he has certainly found his calling because he is wonderful at it! And I am SO THANKFUL I’ve found him!

Clay has taken care of my two kitties twice since I moved to San Francisco about a month ago and is scheduled again here in the next couple of weeks! I was extremely nervous the first time, as we had only been in our new apartment for a couple days before I had to go out of town for work and they had just moved all the way across the country! My cats are extremely high maintenance– only eating wet food and needing lots of attention. Clay came and met them and saw the apartment a couple days before my first trip. He also brought them each a catnip mouse to play with! They loved him right off the bat and I knew they’d be well taken care of. It’s so nice to have the comfort of a daily message from him after he visits them to let me know they are both safe and sound. He’s also extremely reliable– always responds to e-​mails or texts within a few hours about any upcoming dates.
I plan on always using him in the future and would definitely recmmend him for anxious moms and dads of fur babies!
