Karim is an amazing tutor. He helped me prep for the math portion of the GRE. I was, to say the least, hopeless in my mathematical abilities. I didn’t want to pay a fortune for a big name test company but wanted a few hours of focused attention on the harder math questions on the GRE. Srishti was a great tutor who helped me focus on the harder math questions that the prep books generally don’t have (but that you will see on the test if you do well in the first section). She gave me plenty of homework problems that were challenging, helped with pacing and general test taking strategy and gave me great resources for practice tests and other practice problems. I had previously been studying on my own with prep books, but with her help I was able to reach my goal score. She was patient, didn’t focus on silly workarounds or tricks, and had good suggestions on how to approach the math sections. She was generally responsive via email and the coordinator Karim was as well. The per hour cost was much more reasonable than the other brand name test companies, and I don’t think they would have offered anything better. Glad that I went with KickAss Tutors!

Karim came in to help me with math on the GRE 1 month before the test. Karim is a math wiz and a really good teacher. Super patient guy and an utmost professional. Karim is not big on tricks like some of the other prep companies, but to quote the Trix Rabbit «tricks are for kids». Karim focuses on the actual formulas that you WILL need to memorize before the test. He brought workbooks for us and for a study group that only included 2 people, the price was very reasonable.
He does not do verbal but if you are math deficient like me, definitely give him a call.

I hate math. Despise it. I managed to make my way through college without ever taking a designated math class — and was proud of it!
Finding myself faced with taking the GRE for graduate school, however, the horrors of freshmen year geometry and algebra II started creeping back to me, and I knew I was in need of some help.
Courses through Princeton or Kaplan can cost anywhere from $ 600 to $ 1200, and the class size can sometimes be huge. Review books can be helpful (and costly) as well, but are not nearly as effective as an actual tutor — someone who can help you with individual steps, and show you exactly where your making a mistake.
KickAss Tutors and, specifically, Karim, were without a doubt the best option available in terms of an affordable, and most importantly effective, math review for the GRE.
Karim is a fantastic tutor! He is extremely knowledgeable about the GRE and is clearly an expert in all things math. He is very conscious and considerate of your individual skill level and pays attention to what areas you need the most help in (even if its all of them). Karim is very good at math, but more importantly he is very good at explaining it. He takes his time, explaining first larger concepts and then later more specific ideas. He provides plenty of examples to make sure that your understanding as he goes, and he is always happy to provide more or explain again anything you might be having trouble with.
Overall, Karim was extremely helpful and is just a nice and friendly guy all around. He made reviewing math much less painful than it would have been, and I definitely retained a lot of the things we worked on. Theres no better service for anywhere close to what KickAss Tutors costs, and with Karim tutoring me I would have been satisfied even if I had paid more.

If math sounds synonymous with dancing naked in a conga line at the wedding of your second cousin, then you definitely need Kick Ass Tutors.
Much like the naked conga, math for me is an awkward long forgotten series of patterns and moves that I only tried rarely and with much taunting and embarrassment.
Insert my future. It now depends on a complex mathematical dance that I have yet to master. I consider my options: 1) a high priced test preparation factory, 2) a stack of heavy books that will be later used as the legs to a coffee table or 3) a random I find on craigslist to tutor me.
I’m not sure if the classroom style test prep I’ll receive at a big name corp is worth the value of a gold coin. I’m also not sure if I’m disciplined or savvy enough to navigate a labyrinth of test prep books on my own. Initially, I choose option 3.
I’ve had lots of math tutors and my craigslist find was particularly abysmal. He had never taken the GRE and was a scholar equivalent to John Nash (i.e. see film «A Beautiful Mind»). Not only was my craigslist friend as perceptibly brilliant, but also taught me math in a similar method to the aforementioned film and savant– which equated to a series of murmurings, scribbles and assurances that what I was learning was rather simple. Ack.
Unfortunately, the numbers just wouldn’t float in front of me and I decided to see what else I could do to prepare. After much googling and panic, I discover «Kick Ass Tutors» on thumbtack and meet up with Karim.
Equally brilliant, but far more articulate than the former Nash understudy– Karim offered clear step by step instructions and more personalized attention than I would have received with a more well-​know test prep company. He also knew the GRE, had a set curriculum and was able to successfully get me to do the mathematical tango.
All in all, save your time and your wallet and go with KickAssTutors. Karim is a mathematical rock star, but an even better teacher. Highly recommended!
