I needed help desperately with the GRE and was not rolling in $$. I was extremely intimidated by the quantitative section and gave PTTP a call. Talked to Alex who assessed me and discussed the process. He was very reassuring and he recommended I work with Blake, a tutor in the program.
First off, I adore Blake. She was very mindful of how anxious I was about testing as well as very positive. An amazing tutor, brilliant lady who can readily identify your issues, and help to strengthen yourself IF you’re ready. This process for me was amazing as it got my butt in gear and now I’m working towards applications with Blake. Good luck to you and hope you find the motivation like I did from this great program.

This review is for Blake. She worked with me on my essays for grad school. She was able to help me take the jumbled ideas in my head and turn them into a thoughtful, cohesive essay. I am grateful to have worked with her, especially after being accepted to 5 of the 7 programs I applied to.

I started prepping for the GRE with Blake but we soon switched gears to essay writing, as I’m applying to grad school. Blake is the best tutor I’ve ever had and my application essays are amazing. She’s so logical and makes the process virtually painless. I recommend Blake to anyone and everyone!

I found Purple Triangle Test Prep from Unilocal and decided to give them a try. The administrator was VERY helpful and responsive, she paired me Lamalani who is a gem. Though they only charge an introductory rate while being mentored by Alex, Lamalani is nothing short of a professional. Lamalani has taught me useful strategies for mastering both math and verbal sections. I am not a math genius but Lamalani is patient, great at explaining tough questions, and I feel confident that I will be able to nail the GRE. Lamalani is easy to schedule with and I don’t feel like I am throwing money away on a tutor. Lamalani and Alex are quality, and truly know what they are doing in preparing students for these tests.

Alex Gino is the absolute BEST test-​prep instructor in the bay area! I have utilized his tutoring services numerous times and am always delighted and confident after working with him. I have taken multiple LSAT prep, class-​style courses (not because of my score, but for my own personal reasons) and one GRE one-​on-​one course with Alex. Each LSAT course I took with Alex helped me develop better skills and more confidence to attack the LSAT full-​force. However, the one-​on-​one GRE course was even better in my opinion. It enhanced my level of accuracy and we were able to work at our own pace. I was able to ask more in-​depth questions and received much more help on the sections I needed improvement on.
He is the perfect combination of uncompromising, comical and exhilarating while teaching some-​what dull testing material. Alex is a magnificent and brilliantly unique person who truly cares about your score and meeting you where you are and then advancing you to the next level. He does not force you or scold you when dealing with homework, but he does make it clear that your score depends on the work YOU put into it. I was able to work with Alex during every single prep-​course I enrolled in, which was four different courses, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. He is a marvelous and electrifying tutor and person. If you don’t choose Alex, I assure you, you will regret it.

I have always been horrible with taking standardized tests, and I was completely overwhelmed when I had to take the GRE for grad school. Luckily I found Alex, and there is no doubt that he is the reason I got the scores that I wanted. Alex taught me how to break down the quantitative sections of the exam to solve the problems easily instead of attempting to memorize a crazy number of formulas, equations etc. like the GRE prep book suggests that you do. I couldn’t be happier that I found him, he was a tremendous help!

Alex is a great tutor. He helped me study for taking the GRE, and I have a
long history of sucking at standardized tests. He is very well-​rounded, from math to verbal to writing. I hate math, and he helped me feel comfortable with tackling problems. In the end, I received a great writing score, a good verbal score, and a math score that was decent enough considering my brain literally refuses to do math. He was super flexible with scheduling and pricing, and I was able to trade homemade gluten-​free baked goods for a lower price. I highly recommend Alex as a GRE tutor!

Alex is AMAZING. I needed to improve my GRE scores (especially in the quantitative section), and was petrified of math. Alex not only helped me raised my quantitative score and percentage substantially, but he’s also managed to make me much more comfortable with math in general — something I’ve sworn up and down was impossible. What Alex does goes far beyond giving test tips (though his tips are also stellar). He is engaging, and has the ability to explain things clearly, in numerous ways, and on different levels until you understand. I learned more from him in a couple short months than I dreamed was possible. I was actually a bit sad after the GRE was over that there would be no more tutoring sessions with Alex.
If you’re looking for a tutor and find Alex, stop looking. Make an appointment with him. You can be completely confident that you have found the absolute best there is to help you.

Alex is the best there is. I was unable to afford GRE tutoring through a private company, and a friend recommended Alex, whose prices really can’t be beaten. I couldn’t have asked for a more thorough, enthusiastic, and supportive tutor for my GRE prep. Best tutor ever and FUN! Our high schooler ended up with an 800 upper division math SAT score and graduated a National Merit Scholar, in no small part due to
prep tips given by Alex Gino. We could not recommend him more highly!

I took an LSAT class with Alex and found him to be a very effective teacher. You have to put in the work, but he definitely knows his stuff! Alex helped me break down each section of the test through the use of strategies, the recognition of patterns and concrete steps to follow. I raised my LSAT score by 15 points from the first practice test to the actual test, and I got into several top 20 law schools, including UCLA, USC, Vanderbilt, Duke, Northwestern and George Washington. Definitely worth the money!

Alex is an awesome tutor — I was lucky enough to take a class with him and then later seek private tutoring for the GRE. Private tutoring before my test with Alex was a huge help — he really aided me in getting over my anxiety. His prices are way reasonable for what you get — it’s much more bang for your buck to meet with him privately than going to Kaplan or one of those other test-​prep factories. GO WITH ALEX — you won’t regret it.

I had to take the LSAT which is the one test that every potential law student dreads. This is especially true for me who had no idea what to expect. Alex made the test into something that seemed possible and not the terrible beast I thought it was going to be.
When we studied, I felt so relaxed, the material felt accesible and it gave me the confidence, skills and success to always walk away confident and challenged.
In the end, when I walked into my test I felt ready and comfortable, when I finished my score was ten points higher then when I started and it resulted in me getting into all the law schools I applied. I could not have done that without Alex and I am truly thankful!

I had to take the GRE again in a rush to apply to grad schools for my MPH in Epidemiology last fall and I was in a panic. I was told Alex was the best there was for quantitative sections (which was the score I needed to focus on improving) and I was not misinformed. Alex was flexible with my weird schedule and managed to give me a comprehensive crash course in ten hours spaced over six weeks and I felt much better prepared for the test. He taught me all sorts of helpful tips and strategies to deal with all the kinds of problems the GRE happily throws our way. Math is his specialty, but he was great with helping me work through my weak spots with verbal comprehension too.
If you’re looking for someone who will hold your hand and tell you you’re going to get a 2400, straight 170s, or a 180 even if you’re not prepared enough to make you feel better, then take your business elsewhere. If you’re looking for someone who knows their stuff, who will work as hard as you will to get the score you need, who’s a kickass teacher and communicator, and who might actually entertain you throughout the grueling test prep process, then you’ve found your guy. I am stubborn and difficult and not always the best person to work with, and Alex really came through for me.
Also, just gonna say, my scores got me into the schools of public health at University of Michigan, Emory, UC Berkeley and University of Minnesota — ranked #4, #6 and #8(s) in the nation, which was everywhere I applied to. Whatever Alex is charging isn’t high enough to accurately represent how good he is. Do yourself a favor and have him teach you whatever it is you need to know.
