Junk General

As with others… I booked online and scheduled an appt. Very efficient online booking, with followup confirmation email etc. However, the crew didn’t show during the 2 hour window, and when I called, was told they were in San Fran… nowhere near my home (Tri-​Valley). However, I was told that I could be given a dedicated appt. for the next day (today), so I wouldn’t have to wait through the 2 hour window again. Today was also a no show. Again, I called, and dealt with a very pleasant dispatch who, again, told me that the crew was in San Francisco, and could be here in 60 minutes. I cancelled. I can’t get back the two hours from yesterday, and can’t afford to lose another 3 hours today. Not a great way to do business.

Great guys, showed up on time and took all of our junk from our garden at great price. Highly recommend!

Omar and his men were there at 8 am to accommodate me. We had to schedule a second day and he moved things around to get us in the very next day. They are very efficient and organized and knew exactly how to get the job done. I would recommend them to anyone who has a huge clean to get done.

These guys are awesome! Not only are they punctual and good about sorting through the junk, but their efficiency was literally beautiful. My roommate and I just watched in awe as they used great teamwork to haul away an entire garage of junk in 17 minutes flat. Really, really impressive.

Just as with several others here, I called and had a pleasant conversation and set up an appointment for Wednesday between 8−10am. No one showed up. At 11am I called and left a voicemail. No one called me back. At 1pm I called and spoke to someone who said «No one showed up? That’s terrible! Let me call the truck and find out what happened!» Great! Alright! They never called me back…
If this recurring story is how they treat their customers, find someone else to give your money to.

I called them this morning asking for a quote, they said it would be easier to send someone to my house to give an accurate quote. I agreed, and set an appointment for 1130 am same day. I thought that was awesome. Noon came and went and no one had shown up, so I sent a text asking for an update. He told me that he was going to call his guy to find out what’s going on. Shortly after that I got a call from Marco who told me he needed to reschedule because they were busy, as if I didn’t know that there was a need to reschedule. So we did, the new appointment was for 2pm same day. 2 pm came and went and no one showed up. I decided to cancel and go with someone else. Beware of the quote process. I assumed this company was going to be awesome thanks to their reviews, but it seems that something just isn’t adding up.

I was able to schedule a pick up of concrete slab within 24 hours. They showed up about an hour late (hence 4 stars) but they got through schlepping about 2 cubic yards of broken up concrete from my backyard to their tip in about an hour. They cleaned up after themselves and all for a very good price. Will definitely go back to them next time.

Omar and his friendly crew showed up at 7:30 am to accommodate me and hauled all my junk. What a relief. Keep in mind that they do not work Sundays even though their appointment system allows you to make a Sunday appointment. If you need to contact them, I recommend email rather than phoning. I would use them again. Very nice, quick – got the job done!

Omar responded nicely to my email and explained that they no longer work on Sundays. He explained that they «use a third party appointment scheduler that we are about to stop using due to the lack of support from the company. I am sorry for the confusion.» He offered to make a special early morning appointment for us tomorrow to accommodate us. If he follows through and does a good job, I will be happy. I’ll update tomorrow.

Zero Stars.
How could I give stars to a company who confirms my appointment early in the week, and then fifteen minutes before they’re supposed to show up, EMAILS me saying they aren’t going to come. This after I had waited until the appointment was confirmed before bagging and dragging all our junk to the side of the house to make the removal as easy as possible for them. Now the side of our house is filled with bags of junk that they did not pick up.
Immediately after receiving the email, I called them. The message said that they were unable to answer the phone/​likely out on a service call, but that they would call back within 10 minutest. No call back. Another hour or two later, I called again. That time their voice mailbox was full. (Full with messages from other angry customers?!) The *fourth* time I called, I got the same voice message saying they return calls in ten minutes. I left a detailed message outlining above and explaining that I NEED them to follow through with their *confirmed* appointment; my neighborhood is not the type where you can leave tons of junk at the side of your house! So far no call back. I will update my review if they make good on their promise.
Meanwhile, what am I supposed to do with a Groupon that I purchased AFTER receiving my appointment confirmation — if they won’t come to my house??!

I used Junk General after their competitor 1−800… called to tell me that my scheduled visit wasn’t really a visit at all but instead them coming out for a quote… funny they had done that about 4 days earlier. In less than 8 hours Omar and his team filled up and hauled away three dumpsters worth of trash at my father-​in-​laws house which included mattresses, beds and a zillion garbage bags. These men worked really, really hard and did a fantastic job. If your trying to decide between Junk General and the other guys go with the General you wont’ have any regrets.

I used Junk General again because of their environmental practices and prices. To start, their truck is bio-​diesel. They recycle everything possible OR donate and not just do «dump runs». They arrived within the window and in no time, had me cleaned up. The price was reasonable. I would highly recommend this company!

If you have hauling that needs to be done, these guys are the best! I used Junk General to clear out my overcrowded and mostly unused storage unit. There were tables, chairs, a weight bench, and a bunch of other long forgotten furniture. The movers were communicative, efficient, friendly and informative! It was such a huge comfort to know that everything that they hauled away would be broken down and recycled properly… Something that I could never mange to do on my own time. The service was great! I would definitely recommend Junk General. Using them saves time and the environment. The price was great too. They’re a business model well worth supporting. I’ll definitely use them in the future!

We called junk general last minute to help us get rid of old furniture and move our new furniture in. They worked as a team, the job was done in less time than expected and always had an awesome attitude. Not only were they very professional but friendly too. I was extremely pleased with their service and affordable pricing. They focus on detail and make sure the area is fully cleaned to perfection. I’d recommend junk general and assure your expectations will be met.

We used Junk General recently and were thoroughly impressed and pleased with their promptness. Not only with getting back to us in scheduling a time to come to out but with picking everything up and taking care of the job. Omar was so easy to work with and we’ll not only call him back but will refer all of our friends to him to help with any hauling needs.

I called Omar yet again to haul away another load of household items including some very bulky items. Their 3 man crew moves fast and does a great job cleaning up. I have been so impressed with them these last 3 times that when I had to clean out my in-​laws stuff from our new house, I called Omar once again and had him drop off one of their Eco Dumpsters.
My mother in-​law was home at the time and probably talked his ear off (poor Omar) she was super impressed with Omar and plans to use him for their SF house.

I booked Junk General on-​line to haul away some items after moving. I received a confirmation email saying they would be there during the scheduled time window. Approximately 45 minutes prior to the end of the time window I sent them an email confirming that they would be there and was told that the driver called in sick. I’m guessing he didn’t call in sick at that moment since my scheduled appointment was almost over, so why couldn’t they tell me that BEFORE I waited around for them? They offered to rebook to the next morning, however they’ve lost my confidence.
I understand that they might be a small business with limited backup options when someone calls in sick, but I feel the customer service was lacking as I had to «track them down» to find out they wouldn’t be coming.

I’m not a particularly tidy person, and after over 8 years of building up a mess of clutter and lots of _​stuff_​, I decided I needed to be rid of a lot of it before moving to my new house. Having used Junk General one time in the past to good effect, I decided to line them up this time to do my clean up for me. After the movers were done, I asked Junk General to take away everything that was left behind, and I took advantage of their cleaning service. With a week to go before I had to be out of my old place, I put it all in their hands.
I’m happy to say that they came through with flying colors. They came out right when they said they were going to, and other than a small communications snafu in the middle of the job — which we fixed when I called them rather than them calling me – everything got done when promised. The apartment (minus the cheap, worn carpets, that has some bad stains) was immaculate. My neat-​freak father, who was in town visiting my new place, came along and was similarly impressed.
The stuff that I didn’t want to even begin to start cleaning, like the laundry room that had had a nasty liquid detergent spill (quick tip: don’t leave an open 3-​gallon bottle of Tide on your washer) was clean as a whistle. The kitchen was as spotless as it ever was (which was tough, with the low-​grade, decaying vinyl flooring and cheap-​looking cabinets), and the refrigerator was free of the food I left behind and was cleaned out. I think it looked better than when I moved in.
I got my entire security deposit back, so in my book, they did just what I needed. And I’m so happy to be clutter-​free in my new house. My only problem now is that I live outside their service area…

I made an appt online and was given a confirmation email that they would be over within a two hour window. 45 mins after the 2^nd hour, they had not arrived or even called to say they’re running late. My bf told me to forget them and that we should go on with our day to run errands. But I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and call them to see what’s up. I called, didn’t leave a message, and received a call back from Omar. He told me that he would call to see why no one has showed up yet. A couple of minutes later, I received another call from him letting me know they’re running late. (No shit Sherlock). He said he would come over himself and give me an estimate in 45 mins but he wouldn’t be able to do the job same day. Fine. A hour and 30 mins later, he arrived as we were leaving the house. Keep in mind that we sat around waiting for them for over 4 hours!!! He was nice, gave me an estimate and we rescheduled again for the next weekend. He told me that I would get another confirmation email like I did the first time. Fast forward two more days and I still hadn’t gotten that email. I took the initiative and sent them an email asking if I was still scheduled. Fast forward two more days, NOTHING! I went to their website and made another appointment just so I would be on their books for the weekend.
Then it dawned on me. Why would I use them if they have been so unreliable so far? I canceled the appointment and made one with another company that has been so far very reliable. Based on Junk General’s Unilocal reviews, one would think something like this wouldn’t happen. But this is based on my experience and it may be a fluke. But because it happened to me, I won’t make the same mistake and making another appointment with them. Make an appt at your own risk.

On July 21, I call JUnk Gneral after a strong recommendation. One of your representative arrived (late in the day for such a project) and surveyed the job and issued a quote. The quote included: removal of all debrie in the rear of the property, removal of three shrubs and the trimming of a tree.
The crew began at 4:15 in the evening and instead of addressing the rear area, the entire team focused on one of the three shrubs. Removal was simple. The plant was dead and needed a drag from the vehicle by chain. For whatever the reason, the next three hours passed. Two days passed and a number of calls. Then you came out to finish the work. I watched from the inside, and tried to not micro manage, but in the end, you knobed on the door to say that you were all done.
I attempted to wall around and we both viewed weeds on the particles where the shrub were removed. We noted that the debrie in the rear of the house was not collected and the growth on the debrie was not removed.
As I mentioned this, you noted that the ‘other manager was no good at giving quotes. that you were there to finish and stand with your word’. However, on the unfinshed work, you said that you would have to charge an additional amount of $ 300.
The point here is that you work was quoted. We paid according to the contract. You did not show clauses in your contract to add additional cost. As a result of this unfinished work, we are asking VISA to withhold your payment until the job is complete.
Please note that the earliest this job is completed, will limit any circulation of this note to neighbor and other businesses in San Francisco. We would welcome your speed in resolving this matter ASAP.

I’ve used Junk General a few times now through several of my moves in the city, and every time they have been exactly what I needed. This latest move I had was no exception.
I scheduled a pickup in their last 2 hour timeframes (4 – 6) the day before and they were able to fit me in. The day for removal came and I was informed that there was an issue with the timing; unfortunately, one of their other jobs took longer than expected. I’ve worked construction a few years, I know how that shit can go wrong despite all of the best laid plans. Getting a scheduling snag is inevitable in a line of business like this, you can’t dock them for it, it’s all in how the service provider deals with it that decides whether they’re worthwhile or schmucks.
Junk General is worthwhile.
Instead of rescheduling it for the next day, which really would have screwed my month up, at the end of the workday the owner Omar hopped in a truck himself and drove up from San Bruno in rush hour San Francisco traffic to get my junk.
When he got here he appologized for the scheduling issue and worked with me on the price to make up for it. Little touches like that are why you work with a small business, because they have the power to really make a mistake better (rather than the «we’re sorry for the inconvenience, but we aren’t going to make it right» kind of attitude you get with bigger companies). I felt taken care of, which is really what you want from a company.
Also, it’s worth noting that Omar was a speed demon with clearing out the garbage. He didn’t move like he was the company’s owner, he moved like he was the lowest guy on the totem pole trying to work his way up.
Two thumbs up, I’ll be using them again in the future.

Scheduled a time for pickup, they call me to tell me there truck is almost full and they have to push back the pickup to a specific time I told them I had an appointment earlier.
Then they tell me they’ll be here in 20 minutes to check it out because they might have some room in the truck.
45 Minutes later waiting at home with a full day of things I need to get done, I call them, and they tell me that they had to go empty it.
They just didn’t decide to tell me that they weren’t planning on coming for another few hours. You know, no big deal. Maybe if people actually did the job they promised, and not try to get every dollar they can fit in there truck then they would have my business.
This business is junk itself and needs to be removed. They are terrible, please use another service.

These guys are *fantastic*!
They came on time, with lots of able-​bodied people, demolished a huge concrete structure and took away a bathtub, a houseful of carpet, and quite a bit of other large random craziness. They were efficient and very thorough guys — and they were *really* sweet! Oh, and their prices were great! We spent $ 1100 for concrete removal, hauling of everything, dumping fees, and everything. They were really upfront and prices were great compared to the 3 other companies we got quotes from — and they recycle everything then can!
I’m recommending them to everyone that needs something hauled away.

I haven’t used another junk removal service, so I have nothing to compare them to. However, I have used the JG twice now, both times for about ½ a truck worth of junk.
Two guys show up and do a scan over all your junk, then tell you how much it will cost. Once agreed, they go and take it all away. Really easy and painless both times. The employees were very straightforward, no-​nonsense, but nice. You just need to be mentally prepared to have all your stuff taken away.
I was also pleasantly surprised during the second visit. I had an inordinate amount of cardboard boxes which took up a lot of volume but not much mass. They were kind enough to give me a discount on their usual volume-​based pricing because of all the cardboard.
