Jonathan A Ornstil, DDS

Dr. Jonathan Ornstil and his staff is my most favored family dentist. For myself, my daughter and granddaughter. My daughter had dental phobia and stayed away from dentist for many years, but after visiting Dr. Ornstil, her teeth are great and she feels quite comfortable with him and his staff. My granddaughter, too. And, myself as well. Professional, gentle, competent, friendly, providing great care for your mouth and teeth.

Dr. Ornstil is an awesome dentist. I saw him for a dozen years before moving to Toronto. If we ever return, I would run back to his office. I highly recommend that you contact him.

I just had my first appointment with this practice. It was wonderful! The staff who answered the phone answered all my questions, sent me paperwork to complete in advance of my appointment, and accepted my current dental records and x-​rays electronically. I received a timely reminder of the appointment. When I arrived, I was greeted by friendly staff and a very likable dentist. The staff explained everything to me, did my x-​rays quickly and efficiently, and turned me over to the dentist who performed my exam. When we discovered we have a shared love of the outdoors, he talked about several notable local hiking trails while doing my exam. I was then turned over to a skilled and friendly hygienist who cleaned my teeth in record time, all the while asking questions about how I take care of my teeth and mouth and making recommendations about how I might subtly shift my dental care habits to prolong the health of my mouth. I am a total fan of these people!

Dr Ornstil might be good, but only if you can see him. His receptionist was terrible, she sounded like she was high when I called her to make an appointment with Dr Ornstil, she wasn’t clear answering my questions and started to giggle all of a sudden. I didn’t know what’s so funny cause I was just asking about scheduling. I had to repeat my question, twice, and then she asked me to repeat for the 3^rd time cause she was still laughing. At the end, she slammed the phone down in my ear. I never wrote reviews on Unilocal,but I have to give my first one to this most unprofessional lady I’ve ever talked to.

I went to Dr Ornstil on a last minute notice. I had severe pain with my molar and he was so gentle and friendly. His secretary was also extremely helpful. I only wish Dr. Ornstil was also a route canal specialist so I could fix all of my teeth issues with him. Hands down, he was the best dentist I’ve been to. Patient, friendly, efficient, sense of humor, and super helpful as well as. I was recommended by my boss who is a patient of his, and I can see why! I wanted to hug him, he made me feel so comfortable!

I love this dentist and I am a person who thought they would never say that about a dentist. He is very patient and kind. I am very sensitive to pain and he is aware of it and waits for topical anesthesia to work before having to give me any shots if I need it. His whole staff is friendly and sweet and nice. I even was able to make payments for my bills and still get to go see him when I need to.

This review is long overdue… definitely the best. My husband and I think that Dr. Ornstil is incredibly talented, professional and friendly. I’ve referred him to coworkers and they all agree too.

I found out about Dr. Ornstil from a colleague. It was shorty after I realized finding a good dentist is a lot like finding a good mechanic. Dr. Ornstil is trustworthy, and does an amazing job. If I ever leave SF I am taking him with me. It would be really cool if he fixed cars, because all my problems would be solved. Oh. and his staff is amazing. I have been going there for 5 years now, and it ‘s still the same team.

It was with a very heavy heart that I left my dentist in Monterey after a decade of being treated by him
He was the dentist I got a second opinion from after I had been told that I had thirteen cavities.
He declared me cavity free and has helped me remain cavity free right up til my 34^th year.
Since moving to San Francisco, I had been reluctant to try another dentist.
Reluctantly I found one on my dental insurance website and trudged over…
I was so happy that I didn’t drive to Monterey every six months to re-​visit my old dentist.
Dr. Ornstil and his staff are fantastic!!!

Dr. Ornstil repaired two fillings that had been done poorly by another local dentist, and ended the pain I’d had since the first round. He and his staff are professional, calm and friendly. I’d recommend him to anyone for routine cleanings and any other dental needs you have.
Also, his receptionist is the best! Debbie is always in a good mood.

I’m not scared anymore.
I am the biggest baby when it comes to seeing the dentist and I must confess I have a fatalistic attitude when it comes to my teeth.
However, I don’t absolutely dread going to see Dr. Ornstil.
He and his staff are expert, courteous and understanding of people like me to who hate the shrill sound of dental drills, the smell of ground enamel, the taste of yucky chemicals and the feel of small needles.
He still does what needs to be done but its not awful.
I actually leave there feeling refreshed and optimistic about my next visit.

People always warn you about dentists trying to take advantage of you and talking you into unnecessary procedures, but not this man. He’s been truly amazing always taking his time and being cautious before considering any procedures. He’s made amazing referrals to other specialists instead of risking my well being for his own ego or wallet. He and his office admin are both super friendly, compassionate and helpful.

It’s cliché to say that you hate going to the dentist but it’s true! I arrived at Dr. Ornstil’s office to have an old filling replaced. This involved drilling and thus it also involved… a shot! UGH. No matter how great the views and magazines were, I couldn’t shake my nervousness. This is where Sally comes in. I’m not sure of what Sally’s position is there but it should be Mother. She sensed that I was tensing up when the shot was being administered. I felt that her hand was close to mine and when the needle went in, I shamelessly grabbed her hand. With her other hand she patted me on the shoulder. I can’t tell you how soothing that was! After it was all over I thanked her and told her she was the sweetest person I’ve ever met.

Doctor Ornstil and his staff are professional and nice. Have been with the doctor for over 10 years. Never had any problem.

When my dentist of 30 years retired, I tried a new one and soon realized I’d need to find another one fast. (the interim dentist diagnosed all kinds of problems and poduced a treatment plan that would break a bank). I asked a friend for a recommendation and he gave me a glowing one on Dr. Ornstil.
At first I went to Dr. Ornstil for a second opinion as I was shocked at what the previous dentist suggested. What I got from Dr. Ornstil was an honest and reasonable assessment of what needed to be done. He was so straightforward and decent that I immediately chose him as my dentist. That was over 3 years ago and with every visit I have been totally pleased with not only the doctor, but everyone on his staff. They are great, compassionate, and helpful.
They also seem to be very popular, so appointments for cleanings tend to be filled up for weeks in advance, especially if you prefer afternoon appointments. But if you have an emergency situation they seem to do everything possible to fit you in.
Also, unlike a lot of dentists these days, they are not trying to find all sorts of ways to make money off of you, like pushing teeth whitening or other extras. They take care of what you need done, and with great care and compassion.

Some come back from Vegas with a hangover. I came back with a toothache. Desperate for help I chanced upon Dr. Ornstil’s office and was able to get in that day to get my tooth looked at. Turns out I needed a root canal. Dr. Ornstil and the other staff were incredibly helpful in getting me referred to an endodontist who could do the root canal. Ravi Koka (who I also need to write a review for) was incredible, the transition to his office from Dr. Ornstil’s was easy and well communicated.
Since the root canal saga I have been back to Dr. Ornstil’s office twice. I have to give a special shout ot to Sally the dental assistant, it is like having your mother (well if your mother isn’t nice think of the greatest citcom mom ever) in the room with you. She is sweet in her instructions, and squeezes your hand when she knows it hurts!
I also recently had a regular cleaning here and also got to spend a little time with the dental hygenist (I forget her name so sad) Sometimes a teeth cleaning can be painful, the grinding and poking. but she was fantastic, very informative and if she asked you a question, she got her tools out of your mouth and gave you time to respond :) Dr. Ornistl followed up with a few little pokes. the most stress free dental experiences ever!
I now need to get my wisdom teeth pulled and the office manager/​receptionist (Dang I forget her name too, but she’s always the one behind the desk) not only gave me another great referral but made sure the one she referred me to was covered under my insurance. She is incredible at fitting appointments into your schedule in a timely manner. Don’t have insurance or don’t have great insurance. she will also assist you with a payment plan that works for you.
I cannot say enough about the crew at Dr. Ornstil’s office. And to top it all off you get a view of the city as you sit :)

Best dentist I’ve ever had. He is considered, thoughtful and really conservative with procedures which I personally am a fan of when it comes to the dentist. The office is really friendly and personable which is great too.

I love that I can go in there — get my teeth cleaned and if there’s no problem — I’ll see them again in 6 months.

Great dentist.
I was 30 when I first went to see him back in 1998, and hadn’t gone into a dentist for years (like 10 — yeah I know. gross).
I had so much work that needed to be done, but Dr. Jon was awesome, basically setting me up on a 2 year plan that would take care of everything and keep me within my new dental plan yearly limit.
Very professional, obviously caring, and the staff (Hi Sal!) is top rate. I’ve referred I think 5 or 6 people directly to his office.
Say Steve sent you, and remind the doctor that «there’s no talking on the hill.

I have a morbid fear of dentists and the fear is mutual.
As a kid, I was known as a «biter.»
If they had armored humvees then, I’m sure
my dentist would have driven one to the side
o’ my chair.
But I had good reasons for this fear:
1) I saw Marathon Man at far too tender an age
2) a shyster dentist gave me stainless steel crowns when I was a kid,
so I looked like «Jaws» from that James Bond movie.
and if you look liked a pint-​sized version of Jaws, damned
if you’re not going to act like him occasionally.
But Dr. Ornstil put all those memories — and toothsome
metallic mementoes of my naïve mother getting fleeced –
in the dustbin of history.
I mean, have you ever heard of crowns that look so
gorgeous you get admitted to Hollywood nightclubs that Tara
Reid gets rejected from?
well, I got them here.
This man, and his staff, are angels.
he is better than any cosmetic millionaire dentist,
but is just a regular guy charging regular rates.
But don’t go here because it takes months to get an appt!
so forget everything I just said.
