Three different acupuncturists in two different states were not able to provide the results I’ve experienced with Jeremy. I really can’t say enough wonderful things about him.
Because my health struggles are menstrual in nature, I wasn’t sure if I would really feel comfortable talking with a man about it. I am happy to report that Jeremy is gentle, attentive, and sensitive to the fears and anxieties that come with chronic illness.
During our sessions together he is entirely present, listening to me on all levels — spoken and unspoken. His diagnostic instinct is spot on, getting to effective courses of treatment from day one.
After 20 years of monthly misery, I have had nearly pain-​free periods for the past three months. Amazing.
My spouse now sees Jeremy too — and after 10 years on heavy sleep medication, is sleeping soundly all night without any pharmaceuticals or herbs.

Jeremy is an amazing listener, from your speaking and emoting to your pulse. From his precise and nuanced acupuncture, my clenching and pain has subsided considerably. I went to see Jeremy for some back pain that was getting worse everyday for two weeks. It was my first time trying acupuncture and he helped me feel very comfortable during the consultation, where we discussed that the pain may be getting worse due to stress. The first treatment went exactly as he had said, and I felt better within the following day. The entire week after, not only was I not in pain, but my level of stress had gone down too. I highly recommend Jeremy for anyone, as he is a professional in his field and trained in treating a wide range of ailments.

I recently visited Dr. Rothenberg for some tightness in the chest. As a 26 year old, I was quite scared going in. After discussing my diet, habits, and work schedule, it would seem like stress was the culprit.
I received an acupuncture treatment and cupping. Dr. Rothenberg was very caring and gentle. He explained exactly what he was doing as the treatment progressed.

I’ve felt so much better over the past few weeks. Immediately after I left, my eyesight improved! My chest is feeling better and the diet and exercise changes have made a difference in my lifestyle choices. This doctor is top notch.

I highly recommend anyone to simply reach out to Jeremy to first share what ailment/​symptoms you may have and really listen to how he responds. For me, it was inspiring and intriguing to listen to him and it made me feel proactive and hopeful in pursuing a remedy for my symptoms vs allowing myself to continue with the discomfort passively as I have been for so long.
I was brought up entirely on western medicine, but have been seeking alternate options and I really connected with Jeremy’s relaxed and peaceful demeanor and the way he sees and approaches treatment.
I felt like I was no longer alone in dealing with my pain and discomfort and that I really had someone by my side who cared and can affect positive change in ways I never knew about relative to the western approach of in and out 10 minute office visits and prescription of pain meds to mask the pain, but not address the root cause.
Jeremy has made me feel hopeful about taking on my pain and beating it vs being a victim of it and this mindshift has been absolutely invaluable to me both in dealing with this specific issue, but truly in how I look at and manage other challenges in my life.

I was fortunate to come across Jeremy through a close friend referral who just like me thinks of him highly.
I have had so far a couple of sessions where we discussed on health strategies and practical ways to get there. And more importantly had acupuncture for the first time which at first did not seem like anything out of the ordinary was happening. But on the second session having come to it with a heavy sinus congestion, he managed to temporary clear it up as well as providing a very noticeably deep amount of relaxation during a stressful moment I was going through.

I have been lucky to have seen some of the best practitioners (medical, traditional and non) in the Bay Area. I think that Jeremy is fantastic. I first went to him to treat severe back pain, which I’ve had on and off for nearly 25 years, and for which Western medicine (including physical therapists) has never been very helpful. He gave me immediate and sustained relief. Since that episode of back pain, he has treated me for a few other issues, some of which he healed over the course of several sessions, one of which he literally healed in one session.
Jeremy also takes a lot of time to ask about symptoms, improvements since the last treatment, other factors that may be affecting problem areas, and never seems in a rush during these dialogues. He is very good at explaining his methods, meridians, etc., in a way that makes sense to my very Western way of thinking.
I am the son and grandson of doctors and have great respect for MDs and had a nearly innate skepticism of acupuncture. No longer. Jeremy’s treatments work, and he is a wonderful person to boot. I would recommend him to anyone.
Also, his office (he somewhat recently moved offices) is really nice — great design, clean, comfortable, relaxing and peaceful.

Jeremy’s method of treatment is comprehensive. Chinese medicine looks at the body as a whole, and he has been instumental in healing/​resolving medical issues which have not only pagued me for years, but made my western GP just scratch his head and order a bunch of tests. (all inconclusive)
Im a skeptical person. I didnt put too much faith in Chinese medicine, mainly because of how it’s been co-​opted in the west by a bunch of new-​age know-​nothings.
I didn’t expect the treatments to work. That was an incorrect assesment.

Been going to Jeremy for several years and his work has relieved chronic back spasms and been calming and soothing to my body & mind

I have been seeing Jeremy for more than one year, having been plagued for over 20 years by debilitating migraine headaches. Without question, Jeremy’s periodic acupuncture treatments have brought me nearly complete relief. Having suffered for so long without any effective treatment, Jeremy’s acupuncture has had an extraordinary impact on my well-​being.
Thankfully, I have also clicked with Jeremy as a healthcare advisor and as a person. He cares, communicates and respects my time. A medical relationship is very personal and I am gratified to have found Jeremy.

Went to Jeremy a few times last year based on a slick website and lots of 5 star reviews. Given all the 5 star reviews I don’t feel bad providing a lower one. I’ve only been to a few acupuncturist before, and had a few «somatic acupuncture» sessions. I chose this modality because I actually had a few very good experiences with somatic emotional reexperincing type of therapies, guided meditations by trained therapists that also do bodywork. Yes its a little new age, but I had a few done at a treatment center in Arizona once and wanted to find someone in the Bay Area that might be able to approximate.
Jeremy asked me a few very generic questions during a session that were directed at «getting to the source» (or something). He also prescribed some chinese herbs without really telling me what was in them, or what they did, at a level of scientific understanding that I trusted. «Calming wind» is not a scientifically valid therapeutic mechanism — and although I do believe many of the herbs used in chinese medicine ARE of therapeutic value, it’s unclear to me why in this day and age (and we certainly should not accept) practitioners use these antiquated metaphors.
The acupuncture was on the expensive side and of unclear benefit to my insomnia. The somatic acupuncutre was near-​uesless and all I could think about was «are you kidding me» when I heard the series of questions. And this is coming from someone who has received significant benefit from trained psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, and others.
FInally, he had a really offputting and disturbing smugness/​arrogance, wasn’t particularly friendly, and I just didn’t trust him I’m sorry to say (though he gave me no particular reason not to besides the above).
**Update**
Jeremy graciously offered to refund my money after I posted my review, which I appreciated (and most certainly did not expect, given that I wrote this review 9 months after service after receiving a marketing email from him). And I should stress that this review was specifically about the Somatic Acupuncture specialty he markets, NOT general acupuncutre which he also offers. While I won’t be removing my negative review as he requested after I accepted his refund offer, as I find that unambigiously ethically dubious, I hope this update provides some clarity.**

Jeremy has been a driving force behind the positive health changes I’ve had since I met him. With acupuncture, herbs, and diet suggestions, I’ve been able to control aspects of my health I thought I was just going to have to live with. He’s amazing, and I couldn’t recommend him more highly!

I found Jeremy through Living Social, and am so glad I did. He talked me through what I was feeling and I instantly felt comfortable around him. I didn’t care if I cried, laughed or got anxious talking about some of the topics that were brought up in our sessions. He is so calm and friendly and understanding — and I love that he will tell you in the nicest way possible exactly what you need to hear to continue to heal yourself. Highly recommended!

I got acupuncture from Jeremy for a few months for a pinched nerve. The treatment worked very well, and made the problems go away! Plus he’s a nice and fun guy to chat with. Highly recommended!

I found Jeremy here on Unilocal (thanks Unilocalies!) and am so impressed w him. My first appointment I was in TERRIBLE longterm pain in several places in my body (not to mention stiff and tense).
Over the course of a few weeks of twice weekly treatments, I am now in NO pain, and my stiffness has been significantly reduced. Jeremy is so smart, and knows his business. I tried 3 other acupuncturists in SF before finding Jeremy; two were ineffectual and one was not clean (yuck!).
You will know when he puts the first needle in that you are in the presence of a master healer.
Hot tip: don’t try driving there; parking sucks in that ‘hood. It’s a quick and pleasant walk from Muni to his office.

Jeremy is a true healer. Although Eastern medicine was literally foreign to me prior to visiting Jeremy, the results speak for themselves.
I left my first acupuncture session totally relaxed and focused, a feeling that stayed for about a month. In my second session, he incorporated more pulse reading and energy work that was, in one hyphenated word, MIND-​BLOWING. Sorry I didn’t warn you about the all caps, but any problems you might have with them, you can probably go to Jeremy and he’ll likely be able to cure you.
I knew Jeremy had an intuitive, honed gift for healing after that second session. And I had already started recommending him to friends after the first, so seriously, go to Jeremy Rothenberg, not just for acupuncture but for any healing work.
