In the Mix Concrete

BLISTERS and BUBBLES all over the floor, after only 6 weeks of Ken putting a new epoxy concrete floor in our home (see attached pictures). We were furious to see the floor, but were even more flabbergasted when Ken blatantly refused to take responsibility. He ordered my husband to take moisture test, at our own cost, and report back to him before he would come out and take a look! We are homeowners, not contractors. Making sure that the prep work is properly done including testing the moisture level is the responsibility of the contractor, not homeowners. And no matter how you want to twist it, no ‘good floor’ should go blistered and bubbled after only 6 weeks. Ironically, he is using our floor picture on his facebook portfolio, even here on Unilocal (see pic dated Oct 8) — LOL.
Furthermore Ken kept adding price along the way: Epoxy Materials now increased from $ 6/​foot to $ 8/​foot, workers quit on him and we had to pay part time workers he picked up. Final invoice came up way more than the original quote, with overtime payment for Ken himself!
I wish we never used his service. Now not only we have to pay another contractor to redo the floor, but also an additional charge to remove the one that In the Mix aka Ken did!

I had Ken do a project that required removing a buckled wood floor on concrete and complete installation of an epoxy on concrete. Concrete had moisture related issues (hence the buckled wood floor). After about 6 weeks I started to see bubbles/​blisters on the epoxy. Some bubbles had burst and you could see water. I tried contacting Ken by phone, text and email but no response. I continued to call and email until he finally got back to me. His initial response was he was busy for the next two weeks and could not come and look at the floor. He also noted that he thought the moisture barrier which he applied may have failed. After some more email exchanges he said it was not his responsibility as part of the contract and his last email communication said «please get in touch when you have the moisture test complete and we will continue from there» He also noted that any moisture testing would have to be done at my cost!
So I’m stuck with an epoxy floor with blisters and bubbles. He doesn’t even want to come and take a look at the floor until I do more testing. I now have to figure out how to repair this floor. From initial input that I got from a flooring contractor it looks like I will have to completely redo the floor by removing existing epoxy, fixing the moisture problem and adding a new epoxy layer.
On top of all that I was overcharged for the project which at the time of installation I was willing to put up with to get the job done as I needed the floor completed. Apparently Ken did not do an accurate measurement so he charged me for 450 sq ft versus an actual 375 sq ft. I also see that Ken notes he has a team. For my project Ken did not have any team. He did say that for this project he would have two people helping him, but prior to starting the project he said the two guys he had working for him left and he would have to figure out how to get help. And then he charged me for the workers he picked up at Home Depot as well as overtime charge for himself. And I had to pay for some equipment rental. Also he changed the epoxy price per sq ft from $ 6 to $ 8 during the installation (one reason we went with epoxy was the discounted pricing he offered us). What a rip off!!!
So I now have a blistered/​bubbled floor, I was overcharged for installation, and despite the one year warranty Ken will not even come and take a look at the floor. And he ordered me to give him a Unilocal review after he completed the work. So now you got it.

Ken did a wonderful job creating a custom floor for my shed office in the Marina. He is very conscientious, professional, attentive to detail, easy to work with, and has the eye of a true artist.
