Specialties
The first hotel of its size and design, the Hilton San Francisco put the city on the map as a meeting destination. With more meeting space than any other hotel in the city, this hotel can boast being a master of meetings and events. Without fail, there’s always just the right place for meetings of any size — from 10 — 4,000 — within the hotel’s 135,000 sq. ft. of premium space. And from concept to execution, the Hilton’s tenured staff is proof there’s no substitution for experience and knowledge.
History
Established in 1964.
«The new Hilton is the greatest addition to San Francisco since cable cars.» Edmund G. Brown, the Governor of California (1964)
That same year, the hotel hosted both the Democratic National Convention and the Beatles. It has twice expanded and now completes the entire city block bordered by O’Farrell, Mason, Ellis and Taylor Streets.
At that time, the Hilton had one of the largest ballrooms in the world — 19,000 sq. ft. and built entirely without columns.
San Francisco’s third highest bridge is the Hilton crossover linking two of the hotel’s three towers. It’s 150 feet long and cost nearly $ 300,000 to build in the 1970’s.
