I began my journey into Tinnitus nightmare some years ago, back when Shingle Hanging ENT Doctors at UCSF and most any American Medical Approved Facility had their blessing to operate would tell me, these’s no such thing, its a rip-​off and I became so angry because I knew these so called PHD’s and smart folks had a hard Lesson to learn. This place is by far the finest facility that came together after UCSF people couldn’t stand seeing people not being treated or their horrible illness not treated.
For me I though I’d never SLEEP again, I was in a huge trap and knew I had to search out with us to get sound devices first and then a custom made device that was not a cheap miracle but one with all the answers that did everything, masked out the ringing in my ear and also was a hearing aid too! It overcame the trouble I was experiencing health wise.
Plus another thing I liked was After five steady years of use I had to take the hearing device in for cleaning and repair and buy a new remote control which operates the device. I’d somehow crushed it, the plastic case and taped it up to keep using it and it kept working ugly as it looked. But then it too began having WIFI signal problems between itself and the device so bough a replacement.
Waiting for some Trust Funds to come in and get down their and pay these good people.
I would urge anyone looking for caring, bright, and friendly supportive folks to help you with any hearing or Tinnitus problems to see them at Hearing and Speech Center in San Francisco’

These folks are caring, polite and supportive. No bad Doctor Ego’s or attitudes to deal with either. Isn’t THAT refreshing!

This place is an awesome clinic with staff that really cares about their patients. The service is better than any other clinic I have visited in the area. The doctors I’ve seen here are very professional and will spend time with you to make sure you’re happy. I’ve always been seen on time and the front desk staff is friendly and helpful.

What a fantastic place to go and get yourself fitted with hearing aids. I’ve been going there for over two years and whenever I need something they are there for you. Tracy Peck is soooo awesome, she took the time to help me get my hearing aids so perfectly set that most of the time I don’t even know that they are there. I find the front desk and staff makes this place a joy to visit and feel like you are part of their family.
I highly recommend this place over any other and I checked out quite a few before settling with Hearing & Speech Center of Northern California.

I went in to the Hearing and Speech Center recently because I’ve had some concerns about my hearing. I’ve been listening to headphones at too loud of a volume for a loong time. I’m part of the WalkMan generation.
Front desk was friendly. The audiologist (Tracy) was friendly and professional.
The visit was fun. We first looked in my ear with a videoscope thingy — so I could see the inside of my ears. The audiologist told me what was what — and that the light coming from inside my head was just a reflection… That was fun. (And yes, My ears are clean.)
The hearing test was the highlight. Alone in a soundproof room while trying to hear tones that the audiologist played from the other side of the one way glass at random intervals, frequencies, and volume levels. When you hear the tone you click the button.
Oh — and for the curious — I have dog hearing! I can hear well up to 22kHz.

WOW, what a great place! There are so many wonderful things to say about the Hearing & Speech Center. The folks there are so very dedicated, enthusiastic and kind. The big plus for many is they have staff who specialize in tinnitus. That is huge. Since they are non-​profit, they are not interested in pushing off any particular hearing aid; they try to fit you with what’s best for YOU, not what can benefit/​profit them. The shining star there is Dr. Tracy Peck — what a wonderful human being (although I know they are all wonderful). We can only hope and wish that this group of dedicated folks — professionals — could be at every audiologist’s office. THANKS to all at this office who help those in need. If you have never had a hearing problem you have no idea what it can mean to go from audiologist to audiologist and then stumble upon the Hearing & Speech Center. Everyone should know about it. Everyone who has a hearing problem should be able to experience this kind of help.

My son has been going to the center for more than 6 years (since he was 3 years old). The people there know him by name. He’s had great audiologists over the years and has participated in homework groups and summer day camp. The staff in the school and the counseling and outreach group are wonderful. They have appropriate training and experience and many have personal experience with hearing loss. For children with hearing loss there is no other place that offers this array of services with people whose life work it is to work with people with hearing loss.

I fared a little better here, but in the end, I stopped coming here for my every three-​months-​I-​need-​two-​new-​hearing-​aid-​molds-​damn-​it-​visit. One of the doctors, whose name I can’t recall, was actually pretty helpful and friendly in the beginning, although I was a little annoyed that so much emphasis is on children at this place. You know, eventually all of those kids you’re helping will be adults one day and will still need hearing aid care all the way through those many, many middle years (20s, 30s, 40s, 50s) before they are considered «normal» by their elder peers…
I digress… service was okay here, but the last time I went, I picked up my new ear molds from the front desk. Hmmmm… interesting…The receptionist actually suggested I cut the tubes off the molds myself. Wow! That would be a feat in itself!!! How exactly do you remove yourself from your body so that you can see how the mold fits into your ear from the side, anyway? Please do tell…
Then I asked for pliers to pry the tubes open so I could fit them onto my aids. Yeah. Not really happening here…
Not again. Two stars for the doctors who seem to have a heart.

My SensoDiva had a chipped hook and a broken T-​Coil, and being new to the Bay Area, I went to the first place I found — it seemed large and comprehensive enough to be helpful.
While they couldn’t do much about the lack of technicians, the lady who helped me was awful. She did not seem knowledgeable about hearing aids or hearing loss, having to leave the office to get very basic questions answered (i.e. «can they replace the hook?») Worse, she tried to speak me WITH MY HEARING AID IN HER HAND, which is incredibly insensitive, especially since she had seen my audiogram and seen the extent of my loss.
The only thing they could help me with was the replacing the mold-​tube, which had hardened, and still, they charged me $ 20 for it, when I have gotten it for free.
They are rubbish. The Union Center Hearing Center with Dr. Trytall is much better and I have given them a well-​starred review.

This place looks and feels like a prison. The Assistive Technology program is a waste of time. It took me over four months and two complaints to finally get the alarm clock that I needed. It took just under four months for them to order a part for my assistive listening device. The worst part of all was the poor customer service. I wish I had just gone to
for my listening needs. I eventually ended up transfering to UCSF. I have never had a problem with them. Save youself a lot of grief and go somewhere else!
