Head to Toes

I have been going to this nail place for years. They have new owners and have cleaned out the salon. It looks really nice and open. Very clean and I always get great service. The new owner was a very pleasant woman and I don’t get the feeling that they are talking about me at all.
The only downside that I have noticed, as with all the walk-​in nail salons, is they rush when they are busy.
For $ 30 I got a mani-​pedi, 10 min massage, massage chair and parafin wax. Great deal!

i was actually scared to go to this shop because of all the negative reviews, but i was in a bridal party that reserved a bunch of mani/​pedis here and it was too late to change reservations by the time i logged onto Unilocal.
luckily we did go because i actually had a great time. there were 5 of us in the party and we had the place to ourselves one night after work. there were three people working on us so usually 3 – 4 of us were being worked on at once while the other was free to sit and chat or dry. the younger woman who helped me was very pleasant. yes, they did talk to each other in vietnamese while they were working but i just assumed they weren’t talking about me, and if they were, luckily i didn’t understand. the massage chairs were great, although there is a setting that will make the chair get a little bit too fresh so be warned. the price was great and they even gave me a discount on the bottle of polish i bought. they sell tons of organic and vegan beauty products, which was actually the main reason we booked this salon – the vegan nail polish. great colors and my pedicure looks perfect more than a week later (the manicure i got rid of immediately but i am just not a manicure girl). thanks for the help Unilocal but this time i’m glad i formed my own opinion.

I also had a positive experience at Head to Toes for both a bikini wax and pedicure. The salon isn’t glamorous but it is clean and comfortable.
Wax was quick and not (too) painful (the private back room was a bit less impressive of a facility, though). Pedicure turned out beautiful and was not rushed despite the fact that it was a busy morning when I was there. I felt that the staff were respectful and everyone was enjoying themselves. Prices were reasonable.
I would go back in the future.
All this being said, I am not a connoisseur of pedicures…

Wow, my experience differed markedly from the other reviewers’ — quite possibly because I kicked off «me week» (my birthday and Mothers’ Day!) by going here late on a Sunday afternoon for a mani/​pedi and I was the only client. I guess word to the wise would be – go when they are not busy!
I got a great spa pedicure and a manicure — when I told them I didn’t want nail polish on my hands they suggested buffing the nails and did a great job. I paid extra and got a fabulous leg and hand/​arm massage, which combined with the massage chair was really relaxing. I liked their emphasis on cleanliness and the fact that they offer vegan nail polish!

While I was waiting for Chloe’s Closet to open on a Sunday morning I thought I’d stop in at this place (right next door) to get a much needed manicure. I had my infant with me asleep in his car seat/​stroller. There were no other customers when I walked in, so the staff took their time getting me seated for a French Manicure. It wasn’t too bad; maybe 10 minutes.
A man, I believe the shop owner, started by soaking my fingers in a bowl. Then an older (maybe late 40’s, early 50’s) woman sat down at the station and did the rest of the work. They started speaking to each other in Vietnamese while I sat there.
Another customer walks in and indicated that she wanted a full gel set. So the man sits down with her and starts working on her gel set.
Then, two women (friends or sisters) walk in and they both wanted a mani/​pedi. There was only one other woman left to do the work, so she sat down with one of them and started filling up the foot spa. The other friend sat and chatted with her friend for a while and then said, «Well, I think I’ll go outside for a bit since I’m waiting.»
The man (in Vietnamese) says something like, don’t let her leave, she’ll go across the street to the competition! He tells the woman not to leave and that «they» will be working on her real soon! So she waits…
Back to my manicure.
They start rushing my manicure to the point that the man who was working on another woman’s full gel set, at the station right next to where I was seated, turns around in his seat and starts finishing up the nails on my right hand!!! He didn’t even wash his hands — he had that other woman’s «dust» all over his hands touching my hands.
WTF?!
AND, LET ME TRANSLATE WHAT THE WOMAN WHO WAS WORKING ON MY NAILS SAID (IN VIETNAMESE) ABOUT ME:
«THIS WITCH — HER FINGERS ARE AS HARD AS ROCKS!» (IMPLYING THAT SHE WAS TAKING SO LONG BECAUSE MY FINGERS WERE RIGID.) WTF!!!
I haven’t even mentioned that the woman who was working on me was so hard on my cuticles that I was wincing and said ouch a few times. She didn’t care. Not even an apology or acknowledgment.
I was rushed out of there before my nails were even dry and they were damaged in the payment process. I am kicking myself for leaving a $ 2 tip for my $ 10 manicure — yes, it was $ 10 for a french manicure and now I know why.
RUDE STAFF SPEAKS IN VIETNAMESE ABOUT THEIR CLIENTS. UNPROFESSIONAL. POOR QUALITY. NEXT TIME MAKE SURE YOUR CUSTOMERS DON’T UNDERSTAND OR SPEAK VIETNAMESE BEFORE BADMOUTHING THEM. MY HUSBAND TOLD ME I SHOULD HAVE SAID SOMETHING RIGHT WHEN THAT HAPPENED!!!

This is the type of nail salon you go to if you are in a desparate need of a mani or pedi. My friend and I saw a sign advertising their $ 16 mani & pedi with paraffin wax and decided to try it out. We saw their signs posted saying that they clean and sanitize their spa sinks and do not reuse nail files, so we felt that we would be in good hands. However, the floor in the salon was all warped and I almost tripped twice and the techincians were multi-​tasking so much that we weren’t sure if they were paying attention to us. During my friend’s manicure, she even cried out «OUCH!» My polish didn’t even look all that great — I probably could have done better myself. Well, we both ended up paying $ 20 because we got the spa pedicure and they didn’t even offer to give us the paraffin wax even when I asked about it. I didn’t want to bother asking again after the techincian was done with the polish because I just wanted to get out of there. Guess you just can’t expect much when you pay that little.
