Dan & his staff are amazeballs. I dithered undecidedly for literally months and came in again & again to check on a chair — and not only were they always happy to see me, they were always willing to talk about what I was looking for… again — honestly, I’d come in with the same story, the same questions, would it be too big, was it the right color, blah blah blah; they were incredibly gracious.
Finally, I pulled the trigger and ordered the chair… and what a chair, sumptuous buttercream leather on light wood feet. Immediately it felt like I’d always had it. This is the chair I go to every time when I get home. Soft but well-​made & tough, I’ll be po’ed if this thing outlives me, but it probably will.
The price was more than fair and Dan & staff, so easy to work with, that all I can do is unequivocally recommend them and say thank you, I’ll be back for more.

After deciding to update our Russian Hill home and working with Dan and Jenn at Flipp to do so, we couldn’t be any happier with the outcome! Not much more you could ask for… Dan provided timely, excellent customer service along with fantastic ‘touches’ to update everything from our couch, carpets, to sitting chairs as well as a few pieces of art. From the professional detailed quote to start, ending with the last piece of furniture being moved in, the process was consistently on time and perfectly in line with all expectations that were set. Go see Dan and Jenn… they made it fun, easy, and stress free.

Got a great deal on a very high quality leather sleeper sofa. Less $ than places like CB but higher quality. Hannah was very pleasant and easy to work with and had tons of great design/​furniture knowledge. They have lot’s of interesting things. Retro, modern-​but warm type of feel. Definitely, worth a drop in.

A family-​run operation, this intimate space focuses on rare vintage and European comforts, new designs and even a table of $ 3.99 succulents in the back. Fl! pp’s showrooms make use of furniture and design services perfect for the small San Francisco city spaces.
The space is deceptively larger, and you can walk out through the back door, into the garden, with hanging vines and a gargantuan tree, and the second gallery with fabric swatches, sofas, and nautical décor that reminds me of my grandfather. The candles are amazing, too.

Three stars for the very late extra effort. The third attempt at the coffee table was very good. But finally received a recovered sofa (8 months later, March 2015, rating date did not update on this review). Although the fabric looks good the upholstering was still uneven, asymmetric, only a little straighter. Obviously the task was beyond the upholsterer’s level of competence. Although Dan said he wanted to take one more stab at it, I’m done. I just want to move on. if you don’t see what you want on the floor, walk out the door.

I bought the BEST sofa from Flipp! Dan is a doll. He helped me to figure out the configuration for my living room and it’s perfect. The sofa is a beautiful design and very well made. Dan and his assistant delivered it and removed my giant old couch.
Dan goes out of his way to ensure that you have a wonderful experience.

My husband and I recently moved to SF with no furniture. A friend suggest we visit Flipp and we were very impressed. We purchase everything for our living room and had it delivered within a few days.

We have bought a few items from Dan and Kimberly recently. They have always gone out of their way to make sure that we are happy with our purchases. Five-​star service. They even delivered our armchairs the same day! Small showroom yet full of unique products you cannot find elsewhere. We will go back for many more purchases for sure. Would highly recommend them to others.

Totally disappointed with Dan’s design services. I contacted Dan at the end of Oct 2013 asking for his design expertise because I liked the retail store style but couldn’t find the pieces I needed. The store is set up with odd and ends that a designer might have left over from jobs, so you really have to enlist their design services and buy custom items. I didn’t think that would be a problem, but it was! Dan stated that he would do a site visit to measure and take photos of my place, on the condition I payed $ 500 up front for 4 hours of design time. I agreed and now it is February 2014 and I have nothing! He said he would have floor plans and sketches for me in «a couple of days». 5 weeks later, Dan finally email a sketch for only one of the built-in’s showing a glass door, when I told him I didn’t want glass but closed storage! And that was after he had to send his assistant back out to redo the measurements he did the first time. The plan was two custom built-​in closets, a custom rug and custom runners for the hallway. But I still have nothing. After his first attempt at a sketch for the smaller built-​in didn’t work for us, he has gone silent. I even tried to stop by the store after emailing him the day before to let him know I would stop by to look at rug options. He never responded to the email and when I stopped by the store, I was told he was in a meeting and physically blocked from going into the garden section of the store. It was really weird. If he used up his 4hrs of design time on 1 sketch, then tell me that. Why the silent treatment. Is he going out of business??? That is what I heard but I don’t see any signs on the windows for sales or closing. Very unprofessional. I spent $ 500 and 16 weeks trying to work with Dan and his team and have nothing more that one sketch without even any dimension on it. What a complete waste of time and money.

All of the rave reviews about Dan are nothing short of the truth.
Dan, the owner, reached out to me after I wrote about my experience with an employee that was less than perfect. He wrote me a personal message immediately, and within days met with his staff to rectify the situation. Everyone has bad days, and I can understand that. Dan went above and beyond to make it right — I was surprised and overwhelmed by his prompt action. I will be stopping by Flipp again, and looking forward to meeting Dan in person.

If you’re looking for an eclectic mix of quality mid-​century modern furniture and home accents, Flipp is by far the best and most affordable option in the city. It’s rare that I can walk into a store and love every single piece, but Dan has managed to create this scenario.
What’s more, Dan will work with you to design unique and custom pieces. His team helped my partner and I design and build an amazing custom sectional for our living room and a super badass metal crank table.
We know that when we make a purchase from Flipp that we’re leaving with a truly unique piece of furniture that we will love for years to come. It might be my favorite store in SF.

We moved to Russian Hill about 9 months ago and were delighted in finding Dan and Flipp. We moved from a larger 4 bedroom suburban home to a small 1 bedroom condo and needed to really understand down sizing. Dan and his team at Flipp have made the transition totally awesome. We know have a killer living room and bedroom thanks to Dan and Flipp. We have also been able to purchase accessories that have set our apt off. Can not recommend enough.

Dan is such a pleasure to work with. I got a custom piece from him over a year ago, and now I’m looking into commissioning another.
I am so pleased with the sectional he did. He put so much time and effort into making it exactly what I wanted, keeping the price where I needed it, and coordinating the delivery with my busy schedule. The piece is so lovely that my brother and his wife ended up going to Dan for something similar!

Dan and the Flipp team are amazing.
There’s nothing wrong with buying furniture from chain stores, but if you want a truly unique or custom piece then a trip to Flipp is the way to go.
We had just moved to SF and needed a few pieces to fill our empty apartment. After checking out he usual retailers we stumbled upon Flipp. We instantly loved their style and after talking with Dan and his team we were convinced that a custom sectional was just as affordable and way more customizable than a pre-​made piece. The team helped us every step of the way, from measurements, to style, to fabric. Dan has several furniture makers all of the country that do quality work. We received our custom hand crafted mid century modern sectional and love every inch of it.
Since then, we’ve purchased several other pieces and are extremely happy. The experience is relaxed and no pressure. The store also has a rotating inventory of interesting items, so it’s always worth taking a look every few months.

Dan and Janelle at Flipp are amazing. After moving to a new apartment in Russian Hill, I knew I wanted a sofa that not only fit perfectly in our space but one that would also last for many years. Dan came over to look at our living room, help me decide where the sofa would go, and take measurements to give me an idea of what size I would need. The fee for the «consultation» if that’s what you call it was very small, and the amount would go towards the cost of any sofa that I ended up purchasing. Not a bad deal at all, and Dan’s advice and ideas for the setup of our living room was incredibly helpful for me.
While Dan was there, I couldn’t help but show him this built-​in window bench in our apartment. The bench is in a really great spot, gets a ton of light, but it was just built to be miserably uncomfortable. The back support of the bench has stiff rails that dig into your back. I lamented to Dan how it was a bit of a shame to have such a great spot be so uncomfortable and pretty much unusable. Dan mentioned that custom cushions might be a good idea, and he said he’d send me a sketch of what he had in mind that night. The computer rendered drawing of the window bench with custom cushions was incredible. I never imagined that the bench could even look like that. It would basically be a second couch, with a back cushion that could be removed so that the bench could be used as a bed. I was SOLD.
Because the cushions and couch would be coming from the same upholsterer, Dan gave me a really, really great deal and I couldn’t be happier. Our couch is AWESOME and the built-​in bench with the new cushions is now my favorite place in the house to lounge. I’m utterly amazed at the level of service from Dan and Janelle.
A few weeks after the couch/​cushions purchase, Dan sent me a picture of a new ottoman that they just got in. I had mentioned that an ottoman would be great for the bench, and I was impressed that weeks later he not only remembered but had actually been keeping an eye out for something my style. And now as I type this I have my feet propped up on the funkiest ottoman you’ve ever seen. It’s covered in a bunch of different vintage kilim fabrics, which is perfect since I have a little collection of kilim pillows scattered around my apartment. It just feels so ME and I am so happy/​grateful/​lucky to have Dan and Janelle in my ‘hood.
I’m telling you, Flipp is TOP QUALITY at A GREAT VALUE and the items that you purchase here will be story-​pieces that you’ll keep forever. My apologies for the long-​winded review, but I’m passionate about this place and these people.

At Flipp they practice what they preach. This compact space is full of cool furniture and interesting design pieces. I like furniture that’s somewhere between rustic and industrial and casual and comfortable, and Flipp hits that style perfectly — which is why, when I stopped in to look around yesterday afternoon, I wound up walking out with a new couch and media console.
Flipp’s prices are more than reasonable compared with other stores in San Francisco and surrounding — both of my purchases were also floor models, so an even better deal. But what sealed it for me was Dan — he took the time to chat about the pieces and commiserate about some of the challenges of apartment living in SF, and then arranged for delivery of my furniture, that afternoon. Dan at Flipp definitely has great design, San Francisco apartment style, and customer service dialed in.

I’m a designer and each time I visit FLIPP, I get inspired. Dan’s creativity shines through in the thoughtfully considered merchandise he carries and how it’s presented — it always impresses me and gives me ideas.
Also, I’d be amiss to not mention how lovely and helpful he and his staff are! I once just needed a box of a certain dimension… not a product that was a box, just a cardboard box. Even though I wasn’t purchasing anything, they went out of their way to help me. How’s that for service!!!

Fashionable Living In Petite Places is a real treasure chest and must be experienced in person by any San Franciscan looking to improve their living space!
The owner, Dan, is a very hard working thoughtful honest man who will listen and offer his opinions to help whenever possible with no pressure or expectations of any kind. The prices are very reasonable and the quality is five stars. Service, Quality, and Price; are all five stars. No, I am not getting anything for this review either:)
I recently purchased at FLIPP three artworks for less $ than ONE piece i was considering at another spot downtown. Janelle is also very pleasant to interact with there and can answer any questions to be of help. The garden is amazing. The smaller items offered are very full of style and personality: pillows, cool candle holders, picture frames, lamps, chairs, couches, etc. Dan even made time to help me pick out wall coverings but said I can buy it cheaper somewhere else! He delivered my art the same day!

The entrance to the store is on Green, right off Polk in the bottom of an apartment building. This is a must stop on any trip to the Polk street area.
Not only is the store great, and the design of everything they sell is unique and amazing, but the people who work here are awesome. I have actually had the opportunity to get to know them really well because I did an art show in their back room (the back room is used as a gallery space a lot — so not only will you see home wares but you can see local artists work). My experience working with them was awesome. Everyone that worked there was super positive, helpful, and really cared about my experience with them as an artist. If you support this business, you are supporting people who treat not just customers with respect and grace, but also the vendors they work with.
Dan, the owner, runs a very successful interior design firm as well as this store. That means they have a great eye and are on top of all the most current trends in interior design. Going here is like walking into a fantastic world of all the best objects you could ever have in your home. The kind of things that when people come into your place they immediately gravitate to the piece and marvel at it. They focus on small apartment living so this is the perfect place to go to for decorating your room or studio (though they have everything for any sized appt).
They have several rooms and an outdoor garden that are so packed with interesting stuff that you could be in there an hour just looking at every intricate and beautiful detail. The outdoor garden is really cool as well. I saw it when it was just one of those back/​side alley areas that are common to San Francisco buildings. It is a testament to their design skill in how they have transformed that area into such a magical environment:
