History

Established in 1991.

This location was opened by Tony Carlsson & Manuel Razetto in 1991. Their first employee, Doug, became their full time framer, teaching them everything they knew! In 2000, Tony & Manuel retired and Doug & Laurian bought the business from them. We’ve retained their strong customer service ethic and continued to please customers old and new with our quality of skill, design and craftsmanship.

After graduating from SF State in 2000 with my creative writing degree, I joined my husband Doug (aka Sluggo) in buying this business. Doug had been framing here since it’s opening in 1991 and had been the manager at the frame shop at the Harvard Coop in Boston for 10 years prior to moving to the west coast. Doug graduated with an art degree from Colby College, in Maine… a ‘few’ years prior to that. He is also a musician and continues to play around the bay area and NW with his band, The Grannies.

After the initial excitement about being accepted to a high-​profile art show, I realized that I needed to drop off my artwork THE NEXT WEEK. Of course I had submitted an unframed paper piece, and the framing shop I’ve taken things to before generally takes several weeks. Panic!
In panicking, I talked to a friend of mine, who is friends with Slugo and Laurian at Fastframe and said I should take my stuff here. So glad I did. They were fast, efficient, friendly, and incredibly generous — they gave me a break on a moulding that I loved but gave me sticker shock. The framed piece was ready two days later, which is amazing given they had to order the moulding and make a shadowbox-​type setup. My artwork looks gorgeous in its new frame, and I’m floored by the speedy service and wonderful customer service here.

I usually go to either Artisans (which just moved from Cow Hollow) or Edgewise Arts (in the Mission) and have had GREAT experiences at both. I thought I’d try Fastframe because they’re a short walk (no parking challenges) and have great reviews on Unilocal.They were only so-​so. In the future, I’ll stick with Edgewise.
Fastframe:
Their work is solid. No issues with the quality.
Their price is comparable to Edgewise, a little higher (Artisans is the best in terms of quality but also the highest in price).
They lost 2 stars on their service, which was mediocre. The guy who helped me basically said «well, what frame do you want?». I was hoping for more guidance. He ended up picking out a few frames when I asked him to but his interest in helping me was pretty low. He just didn’t seem to care — and I was OK spending more for higher quality.
The end product was fine but I wasn’t wowed. It would have been better, I think, if I’d worked with someone who was more interested in helping out a client, like the guys at Edgewise.

As Interiors Unlimited, Auburn, CA, we were recommended to use these people as we had a lawyer’s office we were doing and needed a good framer in San Francisco. We met with Steve and later with Doug who were both very professional and helpful with prints we wanted framed. Everything was ready on time and we were (and especially our client was) delighted with the results. We did have one problem with one of the frames that «failed», however, Doug arranged pick-​up, repair (actually the frame was replaced) and re-​delivered back to the site in about a week. Fantastic AFTER sales service which can be rare these days. We totally recommend these guys for any framing requirements needed. We are looking to do more work in the Bay Area and Fastframe will be our «go to» framer for the future. We would not think of going any where else now and look forward to working with these guys again.

This place is absolutely AMAZING! And what makes is so amazing is not just the great quality of work but the customer service is just as superb.
I came in on a Friday with two very large canvas prints that I needed to get framed. I was quoted a couple weeks, which isn’t bad considering that it is a custom job. I had hoped to have it done sooner and expressed that. Daniel asked when I’d like it done by. I cringed and said that I would love to pick them up the coming Sunday, 2 days. Without skipping a beat he said, «Sure, no problem!»
The following day I got a call from Daniel, they were ready! One day turn around, wow! I wasn’t able to get them until Sunday anyways…
On Sunday I picked them up and brought them home. Within 15 minutes I knocked one over and the glass broke. I felt like such an idiot (and still do…) I called and spoke with Steven. He was so kind and accommodating. They were closing in less than 3 hours but he said that if I brought it back asap he’d have it finished before they close. Not only did he have the new glass in under an hour but he only charged me for the glass and not the labor. I was blown away!
I will definitely be giving them more of my business and I recommend that you give them yours as well!

These dudes were awesome and went above and beyond for me. I brought in a 4×8 (that’s 4 feet by 8 feet) piece of art that a friend painted and shipped across country for me. They got the frame done in 10 days and it looked fantastic. Fast forward to me getting it home and up on my wall where I noticed a bit of the plexiglass had slipped out of the frame (probably from transit).
I email Doug and he immediately offered to come over the same day and fix the problem free of charge. The guys came over exactly when they said they would, were super careful with the painting and fixed the problem in 10 minutes. Not only that, but they brought cleaning supplies to make sure they left the frame clean and fingerprint free. Having grown up in a household where we owned a small business it is clear to me that these guys really value their customers. I’ll definitely be back and suggest you go get your framing done here.

Maybe it’s just the San Francisco mark up, but when they want $ 15+ to cut one piece of 8×10 matboard, and I can get a set of 50 cut on Amazon for $ 25, I like to think I am being ripped off. I think I will invest in my own matboard cutter or buy one of these bundles instead.

I came in on a Sunday needing three pictures framed. The owner got them done on the same day at an affordable price. He was friendly, and the shop had a nice atmosphere. I would definitely come back!

We were in town from Honolulu visiting our son who had a poster that had been rolled up in his place for who knows how long. Leave it to parents to want to spruce up his place. We only had Monday to get it for him as we were leaving on Tuesday. We found a number of framing stores within walking distance of his apartment but they were all closed!!! I went on line, found FastFrame which was only a 5 minute drive from his apartment and BEST OF ALL THERE IS FREE PARKING RIGHT IN FRONT… no meter! Doug was very helpful selecting the right matting and frame. We left and our son has to go pick it up for himself, but it will look fabulous is in sparsely furnished bachelor pad!

I have had several pieces framed by these guys. After the first one I just told them, «you know what looks good — just do that.» And it’s always great. After I moved from SF to Seattle I actually shipped a few things to them to get framed. It was worth it to me to pay for the shipping, because I know they will rock it.

My husband has known Doug and Laurian for ages, but even if he hadn’t I would highly recommend their work. Doug framed a very cool rock poster for us and it looked so good that it became the centerpiece of our living room. He gave us some good advice about keeping it simple so as not to detract from the poster itself.
Over Christmas he helped me with a really simple mat job that I should have been able to handle myself… but he made it so much better. I have so much more stuff I plan to have them frame when I have the money, and I wouldn’t think of taking it anywhere else but here.

I had several rock posters and a few photos framed here a few years ago when we were living in San Francisco. The owners are extremely nice and down to earth and always pay attention to what your needs are. They take suggestions as well as give them when you just don’t know what to do.
Everything is handled professionally and turn around times and prices are totally reasonable. Much cheaper than most of the gallery/​frame shops you see around town.

If you’re reading this review you are wanting to have something framed and are thinking about a few things:
1) How expensive is it?
2) Do they do a good job?
3) How long does it take to get it back?
After doing lots of research as well I decided on Fastframe to have a bunch of diplomas and certificates framed. The staff that I interacted with were all very nice and really cared about making sure that the final product was going to look awesome. They were very open about price and explained why certain frames would be more expensive — think real wood versus painted, etc.
So now to answer the questions:
1) In the end I did put down quite a bit of money to get everything framed, but they do a fantastic job and each certificate looks great. I opted for some more expensive items — matting for some and real wood inlay which raised the price dramatically. So there are ways to save some cash and still get a great product.
2) They do a fantastic job. I trusted them with some irreplaceable documents and I have already gone back to have them frame more.
3) I wasn’t in a rush to get everything, and I told them that. That being said the turn around was only 2 weeks. I’m sure if you want it faster they can do it, it is in the name after all!

Can’t express how excited I am with these guys. I brought in a large old cloth advertisement to be framed and attempted to express what i was looking for. It was my first time framing a cloth piece. Doug was helpful in the process. I was quickly informed it was ready for pickup
As I examined the framing in the store, I was hesitant. It looked almost too perfect for such an imperfect piece. Clearly they had spent a lot of energy smoothing and stretching the piece «just so». I took it home and sat with it for a bit but knew it wasn’t right. I should have stuck with my first instincts at pickup.
With hesitation, I brought it back the next morning and expressed my issues. They were totally understanding and thanked me for bringing it back to get it just right.
WIthin only a few hours I was called again and told it was ready. Shocked by how fast they were, particularly during the holiday rush, I went back and picked it up. It was absolutely perfect and just what I had hoped for.
I really appreciate this kind of customer service. Granted their first attempt would probably have been what 99% of the customers want, but they were willing to redo mine to make me happy… and they did it so fast!
They have won my business!

Doug’s a cool guy and did a great job stretching three paintings done by a family member. I debated whether or not I wanted them framed, as well, and he was cool with just stretching them (as this needed to be done anyways) and letting me decide whether or not to take the next step and get them framed.
When I got them home, I noticed that one wasn’t done as perfectly as the others. This may have been my fault (as the paintings were transported from Korea in a suitcase), but I took it back and they restretched it at no charge (and got it back to me within 24 hours).
Again, Doug’s awesome and he’s the reason I come to this location of FastFrame instead of locations closer to my house.

I came here because of the five-​star Unilocal reviews and I was not disappointed. My son’s prized posters from a trip to the Montreaux jazz festival in Switzerland were framed perfectly and were even ready a day early. I will return with all future framing work. Bravo!

I am being the bigger person here. Instead of tearing a new one out of the smug frame shop in Mill Valley that did not «have time» to frame my painting (it might interfere with the owner’s cigarette break followed with doing nothing)…I am going to go ahead and high five Fastframe for it’s amazingness.
I had just under a week to get a 14“x16“x1.5″ canvas framed for my Grandfather’s 80th. This place was just the ticket. Great customer service, many options for a quick turnaround and helpful suggestions.
I will definitely use this place again!
