Darrell Brooks, MD

This review is a long time coming.
Two years ago, December 2012, I was very lucky to have Dr. Brooks perform my hand surgery on December 10, 2012. I had been to another hand surgeon who told me he would perform the surgery this way and that way and I may have problems moving my fingers after the surgery. This MD took X-​rays only in his office. I had a second consult with Dr Brooks. He examined my hand thoroughly and ordered an MRI. He wanted to see how big this thing was growing inside my hand and if it was interfering with bone. The day of the surgery, Dr. Brooks was already in the OR waiting for me. He and his team put me at ease. The surgery was performed under general and took a few hours. When I left the hospital after recovering I went straight out to lunch and had a burger and fries. I took hardly any pain killers and today 2÷01÷2015 I HAVE FULL USE OF ALL MY FINGERS and a barely visible scar in the crease of my palm. Does not look like I even had surgery!
The hand issue was due to an accident. In this accident I injured my ankle, requiring surgery to fix the ligaments. The surgery fixed the ligaments but I had numbness and loss of feeling in a few toes and I could not bend my ankle to the side. I was going back to surgery to take out some of the sutures in the scar line as they were really starting to bother me and cause grief. Just before my hand surgery was to be performed in the OR, I asked Dr. Brooks if he would assist with my upcoming ankle surgery because of the numbness. He said lets talk next week in the office. I went to ankle surgery 11 days after my hand surgery and Dr. Brooks fixed my nerve and removed a lot of scar tissue. He was there in the recovery room when I woke up, like he said he would be. I walked out of the hospital and went to dinner. Next morning when I woke up, I texted my friend that my ankle was back. I could feel my toes and bend my ankle.
It has been over 2 years and the ankle is doing good and scar is barely visible. My hand is back to normal.
I don’t know if I would have had such a great outcome without Dr. Brooks, all I can say is thank you, Dr. Brooks.

I have never review anybody here in Unilocal but I got review Dr Darrell Brooks one year ago I had my first kid he was born with a 6 finger on his left hand made an appointment after 3 months with Dr Brooks they took x ray after finding out that the was not going to be much movement in his finger he recommend to have surgery but I have to wait until my baby is 1 year old which we did I was very worry about the surgery but he was really positive and told that was going to be a easy surgery it’s been a month now and my kid it’s fine there has not been any problem at I would recommend him 100% he is the best there is.

My son suffered a horrific accident to his left hand a few years ago (2011) and we ended up at Dr. Brooks office after Stanford hospital. We are so thankful. He was genuinely concerned and just a magnificent detail– oriented doctor. He was working at the Buncke center at that time but now is in private practice. We have a special place in our hearts for all the hard work put in by Dr. Brooks and his team and surgeons that worked on my son. I can’t give him high enough praise!!!

If you need a hand specialist, I highly recommend Dr. Brooks!
In March, 2013 I had an injury to my hand. After quickly getting stitched up at CPMC Pacific Heights, I was referred to a specialist. However, it was Saturday, and none of the hand specialists were open. I found a list of hand specialists in SF and I called almost each one, left messages, and hoped for a call back.
Within ten minutes, I got a call from Yvette, Dr. Brooks’ assistant. She gave me his cell phone number.
I thought an annoyed doctor would answer the phone since it was a Saturday afternoon, but Dr. Brooks didn’t mind at all. He took his time to listen to me, let me describe my injury, and put me at ease by thoroughly explaining why I’ll be fine until the following Monday.
This amazing treatment continued the following Monday when I saw him in person. Again, he took his time to thoroughly examine my hand and answered every question I had.
Yvette was a fantastic person to work with. She helped me during the entire process. I could tell that both she and Dr. Brooks genuinely cared about my well-​being, and they did what they could to work with my schedule and make sure I had everything I needed.
Dr Brooks is one of those great doctors you hope you’ll find. He’s experienced, kind, patient, and great at what he does.
