History

Established in 1989.

Celtic Moving Co. is a family run business that was founded in 1989 by Martin Folan and his wife Mary Ann. They began this new enterprise with one truck, a strong work ethic, and complete dedication. The company has grown through the years and currently boasts a warehouse for storage, eight trucks, and fifteen employees. Martin’s son has joined the company after earning his degree in Business Management. He plans to bring with him new innovative ideas and the latest technology which will further enhance Celtic Moving’s capabilities and services.

Out of the four moving companies I contacted for quotes, Celtic was the only one who offered to come to my home and eyeball the moving task and give me anything better than a general quote. Celtic charged $ 60 an hour per mover (three movers for my job) and the three movers were very professional, friendly and worked both hard and quickly and came in under the time projected. The stairs at my old place were winding and outright awful for moving furniture but you wouldn’t have known it from their attitudes.
I certainly hope that I won’t be moving anytime soon but whenever I do, Celtic will be my first call.

I had a difficult, and ever-​changing move date. The owners accommodated me every step of the way — and the crews were polite and careful. It is apparent that they all actually care about what they are doing, and how to make the experience easier for their customers. Nice, nice, nice!

Having moved several times in the past, I’m skeptical of most moving companies. I could tell you all kinds of stories about that.
Celtic Moving was different. Their prices for the packing, the storage, and the moving were reasonable. The end price ended up being exactly like they quoted — no last minute surprise changes when they had possession of my stuff (I’ve had that happen more than once with other movers). They were nice, polite people to deal with.
And — very importantly — nothing at all got damaged or lost during my move. This was especially great because I was out of town during the entire process. They handled it directly with my realtor. Loved that.
So… this move was by far my best moving experience. I really appreciated the service they provided me.
I highly recommend them. Be careful of the big national chains with local franchises. I’ve been screwed by them in the past.

Martin and company moved me twice in the last year and I have to say that most of you know what a pain in the ass I can be, but these guys are simply the best! Barry lead the team and what a nice guy he went the extra mile and assembled a bed frame that had just arrived. The team of four moved us in less than five hours, did not break anything and we filled the 26 foot truck to the gills. Moving is a horror in general but these guys made it easier than most and the Inca-​power dude Tony was a master at packing the truck and unpacking the truck. If you need good movers who take the time to wrap your furniture, and we had a lot of expensive stuff, these are the guys. As I always say to my friends «I have the simplest of taste, I only want the best.» And guess what these guys are the best of the best in my opinion. Hopefully Barry, Tony and Martin I won’t be seeing you anytime soon:-) just kidding. And Martin thanks for the loan on the wardrobes I called Jr. earlier!

I have moved four times in the past five years and my husband just moved in a couple months ago. Celtic has been excellent each time! The drivers have been friendly, helpful and professional. I would recommend them completely. We were so impressed with Ernesto and Armando. Great company!

I recommend Celtic movers. I changed my move date multiple times, as I had problems with my apartment/​things that needed to be fixed. They accommodated without a fuss and were still willing to move me. They don’t have nickel and dime fees. Ask for a quote and make sure they stick with it. I had a few things get scratched up, but I was rushing them as I had to get to an appointment.

The movers did a great job. They were on time. They were courteous and patient through out. They asked me where I wanted every thing and checked in to make sure I was happy with the positioning. My furniture is all extremely heavy and they handled it well. I am really pleased with the service I received and will refer them to friends and family.

Worked with Martin to set up moves of TWO households. We had to change the dates due to delayed closing of new property but they were still able to accommodate us. A few weeks before our move Martin brought over a ton of boxes and packing paper — no charge. The movers arrived in good humor and on time. They were so fast and efficient. It is still hard to believe they picked up those huge ceramic pots and moved them without even a crack. I would highly recommend Celtic. This was the best moving experience I’ve ever had.

Jimmy is quite accommodating and pleasant to work with! He drove all the way to the South Bay to drop off some furniture that a friend had given me. The rate he quoted was more than reasonable. I will be recommending him to anyone that needs assistance in the future.

I was recommended to Celtic by our local storage facility. Setting up my appt was fairly simple. On moving day, they called to say they would arrive earlier than expected; which was awesome since I was prepared early. The two guys went straight to work and did an super quick job, no damages and no complaints. These guys were perfect. My boyfriend’s only complaint was that they weren’t wearing kilts! I’ll definitely be calling Celtic again for my next move in Dec.

I had a horrible experience with these guys. Lots of attitude, gave us a lot of crap for not having a parking permit for the street (we lived on a quiet street and at the end of the day, no one gave them any trouble for having the truck there). They were also in horrible moods and made lots of nasty comments to my boyfriend and I all day.
And to top it all off, when everything was said and done, they quoted me the final price and had the nerve to ask for a tip!
The one upside is that even though they threw the boxes around with no care whatsoever, miraculously nothing broke. But I would never use these guys again.

Some of my best clients told me on a Tuesday that they’d like to move their 2,400 sq ft home on that Sunday. Needless to say, it was a bit of a scramble & we weren’t perfectly packed or organized when Celtic got there Sunday morning, but Olivier, Tony, Ivan & Jose were so nice, they listened to what I needed, planned accordingly & got the job done! They were fast, efficient, professional & friendly, they made a tough move easier & more fun to do! Thanks guys! I highly recommend them & as my client says, my recommendation is a tough get!

My recent move with Celtic Movers was the best experience I could possibly have had! I moved a 1 BDRM from the Mission to San Anselmo, and had a hard time getting a reliable quote from other moving companies who were unresponsive and «forgot» to mention all sorts of hidden fees (drive back, shrink wrapping, fuel charges, extra charges for smaller trucks.).
Martin from Celtic was super helpful on the phone, came out two days later to have a look at my stuff (which nobody had even offered before), send me a detailed and accurate quote a few hours later, and answered all my questions carefully.
He checked in a couple of days before, and the day of the move two super friendly guys (Daniel was one of them) showed up on time, loaded everything quickly and carefully, and unloaded in record time. They were joking around along the way and the whole thing was just plain fun!
Five stars for Martin, Daniel, the other mover, and the whole experience! I honestly have no idea where the bad reviews here on Unilocal could possibly come from. If you contact several movers for a free quote you will already notice the difference.

The movers were professional and worked hard and continuously. I used them for two moves this year.
HOWEVER, both times, I felt like I was overcharged from my quote. The first time, they charged an additional $ 100 to move from Redwood City to San Francisco. On the second move within the city they charged $ 150 an hour instead of $ 100 an hour (they said it was because there were three guys but it still took the same amount of time). They also charged a $ 25 fee for gas and I only moved ten blocks.

I just used Celtic again a month ago and they were awesome again. They only sent two guys out this time, so it took a little longer, but the guys moved nonstop the entire time. My total for the move was $ 600 from San Francisco (outer sunset) to Oakland, and it took the guys about 3 hours to load and 2 hours to unload + drive time.
Celtic charges $ 100 per hour vs. the $ 150 other movers charge, so it’s a no-​brainer.

Movers were on time (mostly) courteous and efficient… kinda.
My main issues were;
Movers could not fit everything on truck. No effort was made to do a pre-​visit (even though I requested) to make sure truck was large enough.
I asked *several times* during packing if it would fit «Oh Yes» was constant answer. But no he was wrong. This created undue hardship and stress for us.
3 items were broken. No effort made to fix or repair the items.
While movers showed hustle at times, overall I am surprised it took as long as it did to unload the truck. I get the sense the 3rd guy for the unload did not do all that much.
No, I would not use them again nor recommend them.
