Established in 1998.

Bauerware was the creation of San Francisco Designer Lou Ann Bauer, who specializes in kitchen and bath design, 10 years ago. The store now has the largest selection of cabinet hardware on the West Coast. Her fun store has an amazing collection from ultra contemporary to classic traditional.

Lou Ann Bauer, ASID has been an Interior Designer in San Francisco for 30 years. Her award winning designs have been published worldwide and won her many national and local awards. Lou Ann has combined her art training with the function of interior design to create whimsical and colorful mixes of furnishings and environments. Her artful creations lead her to start her own hardware store to fill the need for interesting and unusual cabinet hardware. Bauerware is a reflection of that creativeness.

Still the best place for decorative hardware in the City, they have the most amazing knobs & handles and more. Pick a theme and they’ll have it. A great store, helpful staff too!

LOVE this store! The staff is VERY helpful and are very knowledgeable. I was looking for handles for my new kitchen and the staff was very patient in helping and guiding me with ideas. They helped me narrow my choices down and allowed me to take a few styles home to test out. Once I decided on the size, they ordered the remaining handles I needed, 20 in all. Yes, pricey, but quality comes with this. I am 100+% satisfied! For the smaller doors above my microwave and fridge, I went with starfish pulls-​since I live near the ocean :-)

The Bauerware staff should consider conducting seminars on customer service and retail sales! My wife and I have been procrastinating about applying pulls and handles to our newly-​refinished kitchen drawers and cabinets. We knew that we wanted something beyond the selection provided by the «big box» stores. We «Googled» cabinet handles and pulls and discovered Bauerware. We found their intimate showroom to be well-​worth the drive from the north bay. While browsing, we were treated to the kind and patient guidance of Store Manager, Selena Fong. Selena has the professional acumen to be promptly prepared to show us anything that we wished to see while affording us the distance to DECIDE what we wanted to see. She would also provide her input when we requested it and you’d be doing yourself a favor to listen to her feedback. Is Bauerware somewhat pricey? I would say that you can pay a broad range of prices depending upon your taste but if a refined and unique appearance is what you seek, you will willingly pay for the satisfaction. I would recommend Bauerware to anyone who wishes to be please and proud of their home décor.

I have only great things to say about Bauerware. I’ve been going there for years, and always walk out with a smile on my face. Friendly, helpful, cool, creative; the Bauerware staff and stock are nothing but the best.
After miserable experiences at another Bryant Street fixture store with a rotten attitude, who’s name shall not be mentioned, shopping at Bauerware is like a breath of fresh air.
Really, Bauerware enjoys seeing you. Go there. It’s a life-​affirming experience.

I love these folks! Friendly! Helpful! And very patient. Plus, they have a lovely selection. I bought hardware for two kitchens here, including some custom handles. They kept me posted on my special order and were great about returning samples. I went to three other stores, including ones recommended by my contractor, before finding this place. I told my contractor he should send future customers here. Two thumbs up and five stars!

If you are looking for knobs and pulls this is the place! Their service is amazing, They special ordered different colored glass knobs for me to try for my new kitchen, Ian is fantastic. The store is amazing and just a fun place to shop!

We spent two hours searching online for just the right cabinet hardware for our kitchen renovation, till everything started blurring together. In desperation, we ran out to Bauerware, which was recommended by our cabinet designer, and arrived 15 minutes before closing time. Despite the late hour, we felt anything but rushed. The selection was vast, and the salespeople knowledgeable and helpful. We left with choices we were thrilled with. I’m really glad we took a little extra time to shop in person and this local, friendly shop.

For those of you out there that have won the lottery and own a home in San Francisco, who have money burning a hole in their pockets, who have a desire to have knobs that no one else has, this is the store for you.
Sadly this is not me. Maybe one day. For now, I am content to look at the knobs and picture the type of person who will buy them.

Selena was excellent. She helped navigate our selection process and made sure everything worked out. When there was an issue with the strike plates, she quickly addressed it. When I asked her about an item they didn’t happen to carry, she gladly provided recommendations on where to go. I marked the store as pricey, but relative to other stores selling the same stuff, they are not pricey. Doorknobs are just surprisingly expensive when you’ve never shopped for high-​quality ones.

I recently purchased kitchen cabinet pulls from Bauerware. I was hesitant to go there, as I envisioned that a niche store that sells only cabinet hardware in the heart of the Castro would be way above my price range.
However I had a small window with my contractor and needed to purchase 29 pairs of cabinet pulls quickly. I tried everywhere and found nothing I liked that wouldn’t take weeks to order.
So I went to Bauerware. The staff there are really friendly and helpful. I worked with Daniel, and he spent the time guiding me through many different options.
The place is unbelievable and they literally have every possible knob or pull that you would want. From the flashy, crazy to the more conservative (like the one I chose).
They had some in stock, which was really nice, and ordered the rest. The remaining supply was delivered within a week, and I’m extremely happy with how they look.
Highly recommend them. They may be a little more on the pricey side, but it’s worth it. top quality, great service. A great combination.

As a designer I have been into Bauerware many times over the years. I always find excellent choices. Selena is always up and helpful.
I have found that Saturdays can be a difficult time to shop there as it is a very small place and can get crowded easily. And their hours could be a bit longer. Maybe open late one day a week? Beware as some of their inventory can be super pricey. So with that all said I still give them 5 stars, and intend to shop there again.

I was in this store for 15 minutes, looking at all the hardware, and I was completely ignored by the employees.
Unless my new superpower is invisibility, I don’t understand this. It’s a tiny store. There was one other couple that was being helped, but is a quick «hello» when I enter too much to ask?
There was at least one other employee there who avoided eye contact and left the room. Another person in the back may have been an employee or another customer. In any event, someone could have assisted me, asked another employee to step up, or at least said they would get to me as soon as they could.
Most of the displays are of eccentric or super-​arty fixtures that are fun to look at in a store but a bit too zany for most homes. Perhaps they have more standard fixtures available to order. I wouldn’t know since they ignored me.

Ummm, I don’t get what the fuss is about with this place. yes, they do pack a lot into a tiny shop, but they don’t have much of a range. They don’t have a section of kooky hardware… practically everything in the store is kooky. If that’s what you want, then you’ll love this place. However, if you are looking for a wide range, this isn’t it. Plus, it’s *really* expensive and the employees weren’t very friendly. Maybe they were having a bad day? It seems to me that if you are charging that much for your product, you could afford to say «hello» and smile to your customers.

I’d give the shop 5 but it’s quite expensive.
But other than that let me rave! Totally helpful sales guy (I’m sorry I can’t remember your name helpful sales guy). Totally patient with me and let me handle (haha handle, get it) as many knobs as I needed to until I found the perfect fit.
Even hand wrote and mailed a letter to me thanking me for my order and letting me know they’d be in soon!
Super friendly, large selection. I never knew there was such a store for knobs and handles and pulls and so I’m so glad I found them.
I felt like the knobs I selected were not super ornate so my jaw dropped open when I found out how much they were. But since I use them everyday and still smile (once I got over the sticker shock), I have to say I’m super satisfied with my Bauerware experience.

Okay, so 3 years later I’m ready to upgrade the door pulls on my coat closet and I want to get the same style I got for my closet door. So back to Bauerware.
And let me say that I have not set foot in the store in the previous 3 years since my last review. That Asian woman remembered me! Not only that but she remembered what I got last time (okay, she had to look up specifics on the computer) but wow. Color me impressed.
Unfortunately they were out but I was able to put in an order. They were then very good about calling me when the pulls came in.
Okay, I’m going to have to recommend Bauerware and it will be my first stop if I need anymore hardware. They are so great to work with!

Great little shop — and what fabulous knobs!
We loved Selena, who provided excellent above-​board service, was extremely patient with us and helpful, and made selecting cabinet hardware a very fun experience.
Bauerware is a utopia for knobs, pulls, handles, and also has other accessories for the home (doorbells, artisan hooks, bath towel racks, etc). If only all shopping experiences were this good!

Totally in love with this store. Selena was so helpful and had a great sense of humor (suspect it is a requirement when you work in a knob store). The selection was stunning and almost overwhelming — suddenly I was mentally replacing every doorknob and pull in my house.

Who knew so much kitchen bling existed in here?
13′ high ceilings (maybe taller) with knobs and handles of all sorts-​kitchen, drawer, and door all displayed like candy. They ranged from classic metal handles to whimiscal things like animals, bright almost jewelry like knobs and probably more you could custom order. Prices vary, so go with an open mind and see if your budget will allow you those lovely details, as the (Wo)man upstairs says.
A small hallway leads to the backroom where all things bathroom accessory-​related hang out.
Thanks to QKC (in a future review) for the recommendation. The sales staff were friendly and very helpful. For my kitchen reno, I’m going with a classic kitchen look, so I picked up some affordable stainless steel-​nickel like handles which should look fancy on my new cabinets and didn’t break the bank. If I feel the need to change up my kitchen bling in the future, I’ll know where to go. 7 days to for a full refund; 30 for exchange only.
