Argonne Playground

When this playground was renovated, we were very excited. However as other reviews have said, lots of foul-​mouthed teenagers hang out here and take over the big swings and swing them really hard and you have to watch for you kids to not get hit by the swings. Sometimes they play really roughly on the structure which is normally for young kids, not for teenagers and that basically means nobody else can play there when they are around.
In addition whenever there are camps, there is no supervision. Some of the camp supervisors are teenagers themselves and I know a lot of teenagers are very responsible and I hate to generalize, but most of these camp supervisors could not care less about what the kids are doing.
There are also a lot of caregivers who are on their cell phones and don’t watch for the kids. And also lots of grand parents who don’t speak English and who have very little control over their grand sons or daughters. So the result is a lot of bad behavior from the children with very little supervision. We essentially avoid this playground now.

This playground is the closest to our house, my son loves this place, the slides are safe and has a lot of activities to keep children interested for a long time. It has modern tire swings and grassed area to run around play catch or toss a frisbee. You have to go early in order to miss the 4 – 8 graders after school, unless your kid is part of that crowd, it turns into an unsupervised playground. Parents are friendy making social interaction easy for the children. Ymca also has good programs for toddlers almost everyday.

My son almost always had a great time just the problem is when no one is keeping an eye to their owns kids, most of the time I need to babysit the other kids for to protect to my son from the rude kids while the caregivers are on their cell or just giving a **it about what is happening, so I’m taking care of my son and the son of the bitches (ooopps) so no fun for me AT ALL! the playground isn’t the problem the grownups ARE! so keep an eye on your kids, for now my son cannot defend by himself but I’ll make sure he punches and pushes back no matter the gender (just saying!!) no one is going to bully my son, no one deserve that, we need to teach and give respect for to get respect back right? so bitch get your ass out of the bench, pay atention to your kid, be responsable and you will not get a black eye from me on your «pretty» face.

I still think modern playgrounds are too safe and sparsely equipped, but if you’re going to be too safe and sparsely equipped, you can do much worse than Argonne Playground.
There’s a lot going on, maybe too much, but for a child of a certain age – say, four – this place could be magical. I don’t mean it will blow any four-​year-​olds’ socks off or even that they will beg their parents to bring them here; but much of what I treasure from my childhood has to do with regularity, certainty, safety, and the distinct possibility of something completely unexpected happening. I didn’t look for adventure or really believe in magic, but I knew that those two things worked best within the rhythms of everyday life. OK, maybe I didn’t know this, but I intuited it. Really. I was an old soul like that. Now I’m just old.
I like how the neighbors have all this fencing on their building so that kids’ basketballs/​baseballs/​softballs/​tennis balls don’t end up in their yards or on their porches.

The park itself maybe clean but it also matters about the people hanging around there. I am i kid and i see stoners there every time i go there. the teenagers are rude, aggressive, and foul-​mouthed.

Changing tables in the bathroom, fenced, clean, age-​appropriate play structures, grassy area, picnic tables, ball field, tennis court… this place has it all! There is a little damage to the asphalt and it could be cleaner, but overall it is well kept. Added bonus… Peet’s is only few blocks away on Geary & 16^th!
Changed my rating because I have had several run-​ins with obnoxious teenagers at this playground. Inappropriate and dangerous behavior around little ones, foul mouths, etc… not going back there if I can avoid it!

Named for the nearby elementary school, this is a great park in the Outer Richmond area. Established in 1926, the park has been renovated a few times, most recently in 2007. Here you will find tennis courts, basketball courts, a green area, swings, and a large play structure with multiple slides and climbing areas. Be sure to bring your own sand toys as the little ones seem to dig that…
Parking can be tough for most neighborhood parks, but here, on the same block, there’s a paid lot so you don’t have to worry about getting ticketed or towed while the kids play. This lot has the meters that you can pay using your cell phone so you can sit on the many benches and enjoy your Starbucks or Peets coffee (purchased nearby on Geary Blvd.) while the kids knock themselves out.
