Rossi Playground

I am not a San Francisco native, I just commute in and out everyday so it is hard for me to see the hidden gems which makes this city feel like a hometown to the locals.
This park is one of them.
A friend of mine was having a potluck here and I couldn’t believe how charming it was in the middle of all of the city’s craziness. The play structures have been updated recently and everything is modern, safe and fun. All the children there seemed to be having a wonderful time.

Our go to playground for the past 6 years. Only complaint has been when the playground gate does not self-​close and they prop open the pool door for ventilation a few feet away. We’ve tried to tell them it’s an accident waiting to happen but never got an understanding lifeguard or pool staff to listen.

Great San Francisco park. Was here for a kids get together. We used the baseball diamond and the playground. Very nice playground with trees in the enclosure.
Note that Bathrooms are across the street.

We lived so close to Rossi that it seemed like it was our backyard. Just moved to St. Louis and we will miss it greatly!

took my almost 2 year old to a birthday party here today and thought the play area for little ones was fantastic. they have lots of great equipment for toddlers up through ten year olds with that nice sponge-​y turf that protects kids when they fall. really clean well kept park. and parking wasn’t bad either.

A good, not great playground. My 2 year-​old daughter got bored after about 20 minutes. For her age, it’s a bit understandable since many of the unique play structures are for older kids (think ages 6 – 10).
Some of the structures that she enjoyed were the slide, swings, and that weird chair-​like spinner. I like how the playground is enclosed with a gate. There are individually sized wooden benches for parents to sit on and watch their children. A large field is nearby which was being used by a local middle school. The restrooms are available across the street adjacent to a small dog park.
The neighborhood surrounding the park is residential, so finding parking within the vicinity can be a crap shoot.
It was quite chilly there, even on a Summer afternoon, which is to be expected in the heart of San Francisco. So dress accordingly.

This is one of the best playground here in San Francisco, big baseball field and basketball court, playground, very well maintained. I’m very impressed and my daughter loves it. we will come back here again soon

This is my two year-​old son’s favorite playground. It’s definitely for the younger set (2 – 6 year-​olds). The playground is enclosed, so it’s super safe if you’ve got a kid like mine who is a fast runner and loves to explore.

Lame. I have never actually seen the playground itself! I have just seen the baseball field, tennis court, and the basketball court. From what I see though, I disapprove. There is a small basketball court, with two nets. If you have two nets, there is a high percentage of both nets being taken. The majority of the time, they are. :(. The tennis courts are equally small. I hate how a lot of times people will hit their tennis balls into the basketball courts. The baseball field is patchy, and looks like it needs some maintenance. The couple of times I came here, they were doing some construction, and it smelled heavily of tar. I don’t care to come to this place.

Basketball courts, tennis courts, volleyball net, field, and playground… this park has it all! There is even a pool, but it looks like it is closed for some reason (maybe repairs). I was jealous of the playground and wished that I was a kid again so I could play on it!
For being in SF the parking wasn’t too bad… I found parking quickly on the surrounding streets this past Saturday. This park is also close to tons of restaurants so you can have lunch after you play some sports.
(Note: on a Saturday afternoon the fields were being used by youth soccer.)

I’m familiar with Rossi mostly from playing a season of WAKA kickball there. It’s a large, spacious field with two baseball/​softball diamonds. The fields can get a little slick after rain or fog, but are generally well maintained and don’t suffer from the gopher holes you see in GG Park and the Panhandle. There’s also a new children’s playground on the southwestern corner.
The big problem? NO BATHROOMS. Head down Arguello to Velo Rouge Café or head up to Geary.

It’s a wonderful park in that neighborhood with many different facilities, playground, fields, tennis courts, swimming pool. I usually bring my children to the playground during weekend and they would meet friends and play together. There are structures for ages from toddlers to elementary school kids. Even though we go there a lot, the children still enjoy it. I like it to be fenced and people walking dogs should not enter.
Sometimes, some old kids play rough and the parents do not bother to stop them, I would just pull my kids to another part to avoid being hurt. So far, it is a very nice playground.

I brought the kid to the playground recently and I must say, I was pretty impressed. I don’t live extremely close to the park and all the parks near me are not as new as this one. There is plenty of room to run around. I like the fact that it’s gated. There is even a chair swing so you can sit with a child on your lap. I haven’t even seen that before.
There were quite a few children here on a Monday afternoon and my friend said that day cares and nannies go here in big groups. There is still enough room for a party here.
I’ve never experienced this before, but my friend and I started singing to our little girls because they were pretending on be on a school bus. Suddenly, some other random children flocked toward us and joined in. So I guess it’s easy to form a mini play group and make friends here.

I come here for the tennis courts (there are three). The whole park is nice though, theres a large field for people and their dogs, baseball, picnic-​ing, frisbee and any other sport. There is a nice sized playground for the kids on one end of the park and a community pool in the building next to it. I don’t know the details of the flooring in the playground but it is fenced in for some assured safety Aside from the tennis courts there is also a basketball court and volleyball/​badminton court. I’m not sure about bathrooms here, maybe some in the community building for no charge but I haven’t ever checked.
All in all this is a well rounded park.

I like to come here when the feeling of a bigger playground (with too many kids like Koret) is overwhelming. This is a great small playground, and not too overly crowded on Saturday afternoons. I love it that the whole play area is enclosed with gates. It’s clean, the ground is soft, and has a tree with low branches where the kids can easily climb up on.
Bathrooms are either in the Rossi pool building or across the street. Tip: make sure your kids go to the bathroom before coming here, and definitely bring your own wipes, hand sanitizer, etc. The bathrooms tend to come up short on toilet paper, seat covers, paper towels, etc.

Rossi affords me the luxury of being able to walk to a place where I can play with my dog (amongst other dog owners) in a safe, enclosed environment. I love it.
I am a responsible owner who certainly picks up every smooshy drop of poo, because I wouldn’t like to step in it, either. And I certainly don’t want to be the Mom whose minivan has a funky smell, thankful to the bottom of her kid’s shoe that has had the unfortunate mishap to step in it.
When I was growing up, we’d have CYO softball games at Rossi, and I remember it fondly. The fact that it’s multi-​use with b-​ball and tennis courts, 2 fields, a children’s area, a pool, AND the «annex» makes it a great place with lots going on.

As a child, I loathed this place. It was at the root of some of my worst childhood fears, drowning and getting chlorine in my eyes. This playground houses one of only a few indoor public swimming pools (North Beach comes to mind)), There are two softball diamonds (
), two tennis courts, an outdoor basketball court (
), and a small children’s playground area. Used by neighborhood children, this park hasn’t changed much since the late 1960’s. With the new Koret facility on the USF campus, it seems to be a bit outdated now. My favorite memories of coming here are:
1. Coming here as a family to splash water. Boy, I miss those days of being with my siblings, parents, and uncles.
2. Going to John’s Pizzeria afterwards, my first introduction to pizza and pasta.
3. Playing in our first season of competitive softball and being trounced 22 – 3 by the Diamond Dragons.
4. Playing a number of Nikkei Softball League games and watching competitive playoff and championship games here.
5. During one of these games, a softball struck the passenger side window on my 300E, jamming it shut (damn you, J. Summitt)!
Though I didn’t live in the neighborhood, this park seemed like home to me. It’s nice to see that it’s still being used for playtime by families and children alike. Wish I had more time to enjoy it.

Rossi Playground is a great place to take kids. It’s a clean play area that has a big space for plenty of kids to run around. The whole playground is gated so you don’t have to worry about the kiddies running off. The playground looks pretty new and up to date, which I like. Love the rubbery floors — less bumps and bruises.
I used to take my nephew here every MWF, after dropping off my boyfriend at USF (which is right around the corner). My nephew loves it here! Finding parking here has been no trouble for me, which is great.
Downside — there’s not much shade around so when it’s a bright and sunny day… its HOT; protect your skin!

what a great park! and kinda hidden away. On the map it looked small but there was plenty of room for everything going on on a Saturday morning.
I would drive across town to play tennis here if the sun is out.
Also conveniently close to Bevmo on Geary so you can stock up on booze before or after your park excursion =-P
