Specialties

After designing her own line of dress-​up clothes for many years, Deborah Meyer and her husband Jonathan decided to open A Child’s Delight. Their aim was to provide a range of complimentary toys that would reflect her belief that childhood is a magical time illuminated by the endless wonder of a child’s own imagination. They brought together a fine collection of beautiful, inspiring products from all over the world that would encourage children to give free reign to their natural love of creative play. We now have a good supply of Rainbow Looms!

History

Established in 1994.

A Child’s Delight first opened its doors on October 15, 1994, at the Northgate Mall in San Rafael, California. Since that first opening, customers have been consistently enchanted by the high quality, lovingly chosen products that they can find only at A Child’s Delight. The business grew rapidly, and today there are three stores in the San Francisco Bay Area: Our new San Rafael location at the Northgate One Shopping Center, the newly opened San Francisco marina location, and at Corte Madera Town Center.

Deborah and Jonathan have always maintained their goal of being a true resource for families, providing them with the wholesome, imaginative toys for children of all ages that are so rapidly disappearing in this age of the mass market and alienating «big box» stores. There is always someone at the store available to advise customers as to the most appropriate gift for any particular child, based on age, gender, and interests. I experienced the worst customer service ever.
The staff was very rude and and not prepared, from de manager Karina to the sales associate Yasmin.
On December 24th, 2015 at 12:20pm I went to the store with my baby boy to buy Christmas presents. After choosing what I wanted I went to the cashier to pay and get them wrapped. The desk was full of employees, at least 4 or 5 people all talking at the same time and making the payment very loud and confusing. When I was paying one of the employees took the toys very quickly and gave them to Yasmin to get them wrapped. Unfortunately Yasmin wrapped all the toys together when it should be separate, as soon as I saw it I told her that I needed the toys to be wrapped separately she turned around and was extremely rude with me, with a very angry expression and started yelling at me in front my baby and other customers. Telling me that I should have told her that from the beginning that I was wasting her time, and I am not the only customer in the store that they have more clients waiting. I was SHOCKED! I felt so offended, discriminated, and ashamed. I told her that she should not be so rude with me, that her colleague took the toys from me without asking how I wanted to be wrapped, and that it was Christmas and she should be more kind. She turned around giving me her back and ignoring me like I was not there. I asked who is the manager and the lady next to her answered me, I am. I was very surprised, I told the manager, how can you allow an employee to be so rude with a customer and don’t say anything. She look at me and responded. Sorry, It’s Christmas! I was more shocked, I looked at her and respond, because it’s Christmas you should be nicer and better prepared. None of the employees, including the manager did anything to apologize to me. I ended up returning the toys and telling them that they just lost another client. Merry Christmas!
After this horrendous experience I called customer service and asked the owner to call me. I am still waiting for that phone call.
If you want to get good customer service and a fun experience for you and your little ones this is not the place to go to.

After a move to Sausalito, we drove past this store daily, and couldn’t wait to take our grandchildren there. When we did, we entered the store without being greeted or asked if we needed help by any employee. The kids selected what they wanted, and after paying the over $ 220 tab, no thank you or even engagement from the staff, my grand-​daughter needed to use the restroom. I was told very impolitely to take her across the street. A toy store that will not allow a six year old to use their restroom is not worth stopping for.

«Great store, super cute toys! Well organized which I really appreciate. Quite a bit of variety, really makes it easy to find whatever you’re looking for. Whether that be a gift for a girl or boy.
If you are having trouble or just need a bit of extra help, there is this one young Hispanic cashier girl who is so so helpful. She is great at gift wrapping and helping you get in and out super fast!»

This place is awesome. I have a 15 month old and she got to push the tiny shopping cart around. They have tons of great wooden toys for toddlers and super nice staff. The prices Are very reasonable… Comparable with amazon within $ 5 and your supporting local business!

This is a pretty fine toy store. Good variety — ranging from wooden toys, educational stuff, the really cool, and the horrible plastic ubiquitous commercial yuck (that sadly sometimes you have to get…)
People who work there are nice, free wrapping, and customers are nice too.
No screaming toysrus moments…
Overall a pretty good experience there!

A very nice, well-​organized toy store in the marina. Great for toys for the 4+ crowd especially. Sure you can find things cheaper at the BIG stores, online, Amazon, etc– but the prices are not ‘unreasonable’ and the selection is adequate– especially when you need some on short notice — or if you have planned poorly ;-)
Parking is relatively easy, the staff were friendly enough and did a nice gift-​wrapping job for me as well. I will return, and usually this is my first-​stop for ‘general’ toy gift-​shopping in my general area (translation– when I need to buy a gift but I have no idea what I am looking for!).

great store with wonderful toys! but the staff did not bother to acknowledge us when we can in. then when I asked for help I was just pointed to a wall filled with choices. I ASKED FOR HELP, not for you to keep talking about your date to your coworker! such a great store but the owner should know if I had been helped I would have spent more. very sad

Probably the best toy store I’ve every been in. The staff is very up to speed on ‘age appropriate’ toys for kids of all ages. I have never been disappointed for birthday gifts, Christmas, and other special occasions. It is well stocked with the very latest ‘must have’ items. I find it hard to limit myself.

This store is genuine in its provisions for CHILDREN, unlike other places that look to sell expensive developmentally questionable items to the yuppie parents. The classic stuff is here, like Jacks, marbles, temp. tattoos, along with cool stuff like Bionicles, etc. In addition, the prices here are some of the lowest I’ve seen. Go to this one.

I like this toy shop so much and I’m so happy they opened in SF!
I’m quite picky about what my child should get as toys. They need to be fun, educational, sturdy and promote imaginary play. Such toys are very difficult to find. I find exactly that kind of toys at a Child’s Delight, and the adorable team is always enthusiastic, polite and helpful.
I came to this shop numerous time since my last review. I even bugged them on the phone because I wanted a yellow and green front end loader truck: they had one– they put it on hold for me.
There was also that time when I needed toys that are playable on a restaurant table: they found tons of ideas. Now Sunday brunches are enjoyable for le bebe and moi.
And this other time when I needed a toy for a chic little girl? Got it.
When it was overwhelming to find the right tricycle, they helped too. I looked for hours on the Internet and they found what I needed in 5 seconds, already mounted by a professional, safe, the right size, and ready to play. I didn’t think it was possible.
It’s an exceptional place and I really enjoy it! Thank you !

A Child’s Delight is a great place to shop if you believe that play should be rooted largely in a child’s imagination, with just a little help from time honored, simple, well crafted props and toys and games.
It is a small store, but if you want to spark creative thinking and fun, they have everything you need. Including Ravensburger jigsaw puzzles, the best!

I went here for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It has a great selection of kids’ stuff. I definitely know where to go next time I’m shopping for my niece or nephew. It was fun just roaming around and seeing all the great stuff they have.

A cute little toystore in the Marina District.
The two people staffing were helpful, nice and the store itself was pretty neat. There was a fairy section with books and costumes, which had I been 15 years younger I woulda gone nuts over. As it was I almost bought the glow in the dark planet set (that can possibly be made into a necklace) in the glow in the dark section but decided for something I was going to wear once it was a mite expensive.
The only negative I saw was the music. The 5-​year-​old build-​a-​bear, it’s-a-small-world-after-all, music that would make a sane man crazy. Props to the two staffers for putting up with it.
5 stars for making me wish I was ten.
