Yolicious

Read no further… Yolicious is now NO-​licious. They are gone and so is part of my soul. My yogurt journey will have to continue on.

UPDATE:
This place is now closed. One of the first fatalities of the Yogurt Wars, slumping economy and the lack of East Village foot traffic.
I personally don’t have a taste for tarty yogurt, nor do I have any fond memories of this store. Regardless, it’s still sad to see another business go down.

Eh. The yogurt here is kinda powdery/​gritty feeling when it melts. I don’t like the texture at all. The topping choice is weak. The waffle sundae is actually pretty decent, when you smother the yogurt in maple syrup, strawberries, captain crunch and serve it on a waffle, its actually tolerable, which I don’t think is the point. The service is real sketchy, once they were making my friends smoothie for like 10 minutes, I could hear the blender whizzing it up, then 5 minutes after that the person came out and told me the blender wasn’t working, did I want my money back? Can I get my 15 minutes for a smoothie that doesn’t exist back too? My friend likes smoothies, but never ever gets a consistent one… sometimes runny, sometimes thick, sometimes with horrible strawberry syrup that shouldn’t be there. I don’t know, I’m just not impressed!

What is the best treat to enjoy with the San Diego’s nightlife? A bowl of fro-yo…Duh!
I can’t leave the beautiful city of San Diego without a bowl of fro-​yo in my belly.
The shop has four different flavors. With me being the only there, I was able to try all four available flavors.
–The Green Tea has an overpowering taste of the actual tea
–The Vanilla tasted very creamy and sweet
–The Peach flavor was too icy and tasted awkward, so definitely «out»
–The Original Tart seems to taste the best with the nice creamy texture and that will be my choice.
The bowl is pretty affordable at $ 3.50 for a 5 ounce bowl. There is no combo, so each topping is $.75 per topping. So I chose a heaping scoop of chopped Strawberries as my lone topping. The lady wasn’t shy to pack those fresh strawberries into my bowl. The topping blend in well with my tasty fro-​yo.
The dining is bigger than some of the other fro-​yo places. The lady was studying while working making the atmosphere silent.
It’s a cash only place.

I’m not a huge Fro Yo fanatic, but after going to places like Bogart Yogurt in PB and Yogurt Cup in Hilcrest, Yolicious just seemed to be missing alot. There were only 3 kinds of yogurt to chose from and the toppings bar was weak. Plus the prices were way too much.
I got a small and didn’t even finish it because there wasn’t much of a taste to it. The ambiance was dark, desolate, and cold. I’d skip it if I were u. I live 2 blocks from this place, but I’d walk farther for a better cup of yogurt.

I live in Chicago (and work at Berry Chill — a natural fro-​yo place) now but I am originally from San Diego, so I was home for a week in May, and was craaaving some yogurt real bad, so after dinner at Pokez (check my review) one night, my friend and I found ourselves at Yolicious.
I tried really hard to not be biased, but I was not a fan of this place at all. The toppings were very minimal, and not very fresh. You could tell that the fruit was frozen, not fresh.
We tried sampes of the flavors, well, tried to. The guy working was sort of creepy and a jerk, and wouldnt let us sample things. He eventually let us try the «plain» but I felt too umcomfortable to try the other flavors after that. I didn’t order the plain because it was like someone had chewed up tums and put them in a yogurt machine, it was so powdery and gross. I ended up with the chocolate, which just tasted sort of like soft-​serve and not yogurt, with some strawberries because they looked the most decent of the toppings.
The menu is sort of confusing and laid out really weird, and they have all sorts of strange options. This place is in a great location, and I think if they organized themselves a bit more, and re-​thought some of their tactics, they could improve a lot.
I ate a few bites of my yogurt as we walked to the car, but just couldnt stomach it anymore and tossed the rest. Eating here only made me wish we had gone to fruberry instead.

Yeah, not great. I went a couple of months back, and it was terrible. They didn’t put a lot of toppings on the yogurt and it was really pricey. I saw a sign the other day that they lowered prices. Yet the taste of protein powder with fruit will keep me away even if it was free!

Only minus 1 star for how pricey it is. I think I paid 8 bucks for a medium with 3 generous toppings (which was way too much anyways). The plain yogurt was delicious and tart, and the fruit was definitely fresh. Exactly what I would expect to get from a yogurt place.
I have never tried any other flavors of frozen yogurt since the new «wave» started, so I can’t speak to that. But I thought the place was great overall.

I heard that this place was a Pinkberry knock off, which I love, so I gave it a try… Verdict:
Not even close!!!
Pinkberry is fantastic because they load up your 3-​topping medium with tons of toppings. At Yolicious, you catch the clercks actually counting how many strawberries/​blackberries they are putting in your cup! The yogurt is pretty good, but the toppings are what you pay for at these joints. They don’t get that here.
Get the topping problem sorted out, and I’ll try it again.

I went here the other day, and I did not like it. First of all when I got a medium and when I ate the top of my Yogurt, the middle of the cup was hallow. I felt cheated. haha. Second, the strawberries were frozen. Besides the fact that the place is walking distance to my house, I probably will not go there again. Prices are no resonable at all.
Can’t wait until Pinkberry aka CRACKBERRY opens up.

I LOVE frozen yogurt, so I was excited to see the long-​awaited opening of my neighborhood yogurt stop, Yolicious.
The shop is modeled very much like (the over-​hyped) Pinkberry… spare and modern interior, limited flavor selections, fresh toppings. I thought it tasted VERY similar as well… on my third visit I asked what makes it taste so distinctive, and was informed it was made from an Italian sugar of some sort? Hmm. No matter, it is quite delicious… I especially recommend the Green Tea flavor.
I would have given them 5 stars, except they never seem to offer a non-​fat or low-​fat option, and it is a bit too pricey… a take-​away container with NO toppings was $ 8. Egad.
Tip– Look for the community /​neighborhood coupon book for half-​off coupons!

they did a good job decorating this place. they gave it the futuristic motif that seems popular with yogurt places without making it sterile.
there’s a sign on the door that says they have gelato. i didn’t see any, but maybe that’s coming soon.
i got the green tea. the yogurt itself was creamy, but not that creamy. the green tea flavor tasted a bit weird to me. i’d rather go to dolci mango and get green tea, but yolicious isn’t awful.
