I stumbled upon this awesome hole in the wall totally by accident. As Bob Ross would say«what a happy accident!» Upon walking in you are greeted by the nicest couple ever, There is limited seating but you have an open view of the kitchen so you can watch your food being prepped. The prices are average about $ 30 for three people, but the portions are way above average. The couple that run Wah Shing treat you like family. I ordered the mushroom and broccoli veggie plate and the general tso chicken, both of which were awesome! The General Tso Chicken was crunchy but tender and none of those yucky gristle pieces were included. Parking can be a challenge at the wrong time of day but if you live close they do deliver. If you’re down near IB Wah Shing is a great spot to get a quick bite.

The best Chinese food in Imperial Beach. This is a family ran business. The food is always fresh. My favorite is the Honey Cashew Shrimp. But the family feast is always good too.

Having just moved to the San Diego area I’m still looking for good eating spots near my house. Since Wah Shing is within easy walking distance of my house I decided to give it a try. I got one of their combo plates to go, the Kung Poa Chicken and Shrimp Chop Suey. While I can’t say the food was bad(no unpleasant tastes), I also can’t say that it was particularly good as both items were pretty much the definition of ‘bland’. The Kung Poa Chicken, normally a spicy dish(and labeled so, on the menu) had no spiciness whatsoever except for three very small flakes of hot pepper. The Chop Suey was equally bland even after adding more soy sauce. I will give them props for the 5 or 6 large whole shrimp in the Chop Suey but, to be honest, it would have been better if the shrimp had been chopped into smaller pieces and spread throughout the entire dish as it would added more flavor. To be fair I will admit that it’s possible that I just happened to get the two blandest items on the menu, and since the food had no off-putting flavors, I will probably try this resturant one more time sometime in the future.

Was in the mood for Chinese take out. An hour went by and still no one showed up so we called the restaurant and the man that answered was very rude and kept repeating they are on the way. Mind you we have an alley house so we told the restaurant this. We get a phone call from the delivery lady and she is completely lost. We told her it was an alley house and she tried going to Alley St(if that exists in IB) she didn’t understand what an alley was. Also, she couldn’t understand a word we were saying and vice versa. So we finally see her drive through and keeps going past our house. House number is CLEAR on the house, no excuse for that. We finally get the food and the Kung pao had no pow to it. It wasn’t any type of spicy at all. Needless to say the hour and 15 minute wait and the hassle of explaining what an alley house was wasn’t worth the sub par food. One plus is there was a good amount of food. Maybe dine in if we ever try again.

Good food at great prices. Ordered food for pickup. When I got home, I realised she forgot to put in the cream cheese wontons so I called and told her. After they closed, she passed by and dropped them off. Now that’s what I call customer service!

Discovered this place by accident about a year ago and fell in love. The customer service is great. They always are willing to please and make everything by scratch. I love seeing the guy cook and the lady there is very nice. I remember once I called at 10 at night and they told me to come in and they made the food right then and there. Great mom and pop shop. Those are the best kinds in my opinion. Large quantities of food given. Love it!!!

Had this place a couple of times I like it. We order to pick up and also delivery. Everything made fresh you can see in their kitchen while they cook. Sometime i wish the chicken was crispier. I love this place

New to San Diego and was craving some good Chinese food. Selecting this place because it was close to home and accepted credit cards. Menu was very limited. Only one size for entrees. I lived in Chicago my whole life and the menus for the Chinese restaurants read like phone books. This place had such limited selections and wouldn’t do substitutions for the combo meals. Had the Orange chicken and was scared to continue after the first bite. «Chicken» was overcooked and the fried rice was tasteless. The only PRO was the huge shrimp in the rice.

Have had their food two different times. Had the beef and Brocolli and fried rice, which was super good. Hot and fresh. But i dont like their combo plate choices. I wanted sesame chicken and had to order another separate entrée. The portions are very nice sized. Actually came back one day to find them closed and they dont have hours on their door… ok… The second time me and my husband got an order of sesame chicken with white rice and it wasn’t as good as the first time. So ehh. Probably be a while before we order again.

We were regulars of this restaurant until we moved out of their delivery district, now we make it down at least 3 times a year when I really need my Chinese food fix. It’s totally worth the trip. True, it is a hole in the wall, I wouldn’t take my family there to eat but only because the dining area is miniscule, maybe 3 tables. The family that owns this restaurant really care. Even when you phone in your order there is usually a small wait time because they WANT you to have fresh food and the wait is worth it. The Honey Cashew Shrimp and the White Meat Almond Chicken are phenomenal and the meal would not be complete without the Shrimp & B.B.Q. Pork Fried Rice. YUMMMMMM… I’ve included pics of the menu because this little gem should be shared.

They deliver and give you huge portions at extremely reasonable prices. Not the greatest Chinese food joint, but definitely better value and better tasting(and more legit) than that panda place we all know so well.

Ate there for maybe a year. Loved the mom and pop atmosphere. Reminded me of my upbringing. Yet one time was treated pretty poorly CASHONLY! Didn’t like that. But ultimate end to our relationship was getting rancid rice. That was the end of me going there. Got sick after that.

I took off a star simply because they don’t deliver to Silver Strand II housing, which is 5 miles away.

Ok, I can finally write a review for this place, they gave me Soo much food it took me 3 days to eat all of it. Got family dinner for 4 but it probably will feed 8. The portions are very large here, not too much taste as far as flavor but who cares when you have a mountain of food infront of you. Bf with broccoli is good, egg foo young is different from your traditional one but it was good, the orange chicken is something that I would not order again, texture was off, not crispy, and it was not good the next day, in fact it’s still in my frig, debating if I want to eat it or throw away, I took of a star for the orange chicken, I get the impression that if you order anything stir-fried it would be good here. The appearance of this place is that of a hole in the wall, looks pretty bad when you walk in, not much space to walk once you get in bc its small inside, ok when I say it’s a mom and pop restaurant I mean literally mom and pop are the only ones working, they are nice and will make your food how you want it. Didn’t like the factor that when I asked for hot oil the lady said we don’t have it but we has siracha in package– come on lady you cannot tell me you are chinese restaurant and don’t have hot oil, what the hell you spice your food with, I know they don’t just put siracha in the food when they cook something that comes spicy on the menu. I should take a star away but I am not, don’t want them to spit in my food next time I go there. OK to wrap it up… food is good if you like quantity over taste, food is freshly cooked when you order, mom and pop are nice people– if they are closed when you come it’s probably bc one of them is sick and they don’t have enough staff to open restaurant, I would recommend this restaurant.

This place is a hidden gem. Sure, it looks ghetto and the dining facility is smallish, but this place was meant for TAKEOUT. I’ve had a few things(to go) from their menu but the food has always been excellent and cooked fresh on the spot… no food bins like you see at some other oriental shop. What’s BOMB is the Salt/Pepper Wings. This is a favorite of mine on Thursdays(so I can have wings on Thursday Night Football)
I come here Thursdays cause sometimes, Buffalo Wild Wings is too crowded and simply out of the question(now that football is on regular network and I don’t have to go to a sports bar to watch a game) 5 Stars

Wah Shing gets a solid 3 stars. For some reason, my husband and I have yet to find a really awesome Chinese place in town, so last night I REALLY wanted Chinese and we decided to try Wah Shing. At first, we called to get delivery, however they informed us they only delivered to Imperial Beach… I told them we live on the Strand, and I don’t think it registered because all I got was… we only deliver to Imperial Beach… ok whatever, take out is fine!!! So we ordered the crab wontons, egg foo young, and orange chicken. They said it would be about 10 minutes so we got in the car and by the time we got there all our food was ready. Like the other reviewers said, it does look like a mom-and-pop type of place with a family running the biz. And also like the other reviewers said, extreme hole-in-the-wall that is best for take out! We got our food, and went back home to unwrap the Chinese goodness! When we got home… WOAH!!! HUGE portions! One order of orange chicken is easily enough to feed two people, and you get rice with it as well. We had enough food for both of us for dinner, and lunch the next day. The food was good, the orange chicken was typical but tasty, and the crab wontons were all gone within minutes! My favorite was the egg foo young, as it also had beef, chicken, shrimp, and veggies with it as well. Wah Shing is a good, solid Chinese food spot if you are craving some A-OK takeout!
